Re: [Origami] Questions regarding pin trading

Gerardo asked:
1. I see a lot more rules when it comes to ATC, for example, what to write on
the back of each card. Are there usually no rules regarding pin trading?
At OrigamiUSA, the pin trade (in which I have participated several times) is
pretty much a friendly free-for-all; just bring some origami pins (or some
origami somethings) and trade. People do some really creative things, both pins
and otherwise; some make origami containers of one kind or another and put a
piece of candy inside each one, for example. That’s why it’s now called “Pins
Plus” or something like that nowadays. I think most of us try to put a sticker
or label on the pin-or-whatever saying who made it and who designed it, and the
date and occasion.

2. Those of you who have participated in the past, how many pins do you usually
make for trading in each convention?
I make as many as I can, usually around 15-20.

3. Do you gals/guys use the pins you have received on a non-convention day?
I don’t, but I keep them and pull them out sometimes for inspiration or to show
other origamists.

Thanks!
Matthew

I had recently made several questions regarding pin trading. Miranda AKA
Mizu-randa answered one of my questions. The lanyard used at the convention
is also used, during the days of the event, for holding the pins.

Thank you Miranda! I appreciate it if you can answer some of the other
ones. Is that OK?

Dear Gerardo (and others)
I don't remember where the idea came from (Germany I think) but we've been
trading at the Dutch weekend convention for about 15 years. Any model you
can put on a mini cloth peg will do, although safety pins, double sided tape
and thread are also used. It's not about the model as such, it's about the
trading and sharing.
At our convention all participants always get a lanyard to show to the hotel
personnel who's in our group. Usually there aren't any other guests so it's
not really necessary but the lanyard is a perfect place to put the pins.
There you have it, free advice from an experienced expert. :-D

Yesterday I shared you a list of questions I have regarding the practice of
pin trading during origami conventions. Aside from that, I shared with you
a picture of a pin I had recently created and I also asked a couple of
questions in relation to my pin.

I decided to also make a GIF to better show it. Hopefully, it'll help you
answer my questions:

[Origami] Questions regarding pin trading

2020-02-05 Thread Gerardo @neorigami.com
I know, I haven't dropped the topic about kusudamas and now I'm starting a
new one. That's so me ; )

Anyway, I'm somewhat curious about pin trading during conventions. I know
very little about it so I was hoping you gals/guys could help me with a
couple of questions.

1. I see a lot more rules when it comes to ATC, for example, what to write
on the back of each card. Are there usually no rules regarding pin trading?

2. Those of you who have participated in the past, how many pins do you
usually make for trading in each convention?

3. I understand some of them are attached to a traditional wooden
clothespin. How do you wear does kind of trading pins if you can't pierce
through your T-shirt with a clothespin?

4. Do you gals/guys use the pins you have received on a non-convention day?

Aside from these questions I wanted to show you a pin I created yesterday
through origami.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4-BQBBQQLy8jpzTxuPSgB_GgKWwSu2-eAt2ceV0k9XKDy9a4j1EDESapnk1jE5jhfTQGuvDdYxn7dkz_4qPflgM-HrOVKsQvtyKhKA5N5Lr0mjHuTTdyg4hH6VK3I_Svqy8rO5uz9g=w2400

It works like a clip. It's two sides are pretty firm from its folds, so it
holds on to what you place in the middle; in this case my T-shirt's pocket.
So I had a couple of more questions regarding my model.

5. Are you aware of any other origami model that works like a wearable pin
without the need for safety pins, clothespin, magnets, etc.?

6. Would you say that it also looks like a chili or does it look more like
some other vegetable or fruit? If so, which? Please, don't mind the color,
I'm more interested in its shape.

7. What would be a better name "Chili Pin" or "Chili Pepper Pin"? Since
English isn't my first language I'm not clear if they both mean the same or
not.

Thank you in advance.
