Re: problem with windows media player.

2004-06-22 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Kevin,
I'm wondering if this is the problem I'm having also, smile. My situation
is a little more complicated, though ... I have recorded a presentation
within the Ivocalize chat client. The default recording settings allow two
files to be saved, one with an .htm extension which opens in IE and seems to
stream. This is about a 5kb file. The other is a larger file with a .wma
extension. When I try to open this file Winamp comes up but will not play
it. I have all file types selected in the Winamp preferences and .wma is
definitely checked, but Winamp will not play it and does not show any error
messages that I have found. Also, Windows Media Player cannot seem to find
the file, which I don't understand. In any case, I'm assuming I should be
able to play it in either one player or the other but can't get it working.
I saw a similar question on another list where someone was trying to play
.wma files in Winamp but having a similar problem, so does anyone know how
this is done? Hope this makes some sense.

Susan

Michael,
Yes, that's what I have, forgot to say so, smile. i've never had much luck
with Windows Media Player, guess I need to try testing it with another
stream to see if it is working at all. But my question really was whether
it is possible to play WMA files through Winamp as the default player or
whether to just accept that Media Player will grab them. In any case, as I
said, I can play the smaller file just fine as long as I allow it to log
onto the website but not the other one which is supposedly just tied to the
player, does that make sense? I must be missing something.

Re: why mp3s will not burn and more wavs do

2004-06-22 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. Instead of using a cdrw disc, use a cdr disc instead. You won't be
able to write over them more than once, but if you're making an audio cd
you won't want to do that anyways.
Just take all the mp3s you want to burn to a cd and put them in a specific
foldder. Then, go into the folder you made and press control plus a to
select all, and then control c to copy them to the windows clipboard.
Next, open Nero and choose audio cd. Once the compilation window is open,
press control v to paste your files in there. That should do it.

I am a bunch of mp3's on my hard drive and I've got nero 5.5 as my rom burner. A

this compilation was made with a different type of cd. I know you can store all kinds
of material on a dvd rom but this wasn't one of those. What type of blank media is
that and can nero work with it? I'm going to be stripping this computer soon and

Re: why mp3s will not burn and more wavs do

2004-06-22 Thread lloyd fuge
Dear Chris,

Yes, that is what I expected.

I did the following on several occasions:

1 open Nero
2 do control-n
3 tab to next three times and space on next;
4 enter on burn and it brings up the compilation box
5 I control-c to copy all of the selections I have in a folder of a given
singer (which are in mp3 format) and paste it in the box and do alt and down
menu eight times to 'write'.
Where I have the choice of 'audio', 'data' or 'other' I selected 'audio' and
get told there is not enough room. In most cases there should be room for
ten times as many mp3 selections.

I appreciate your confirming the approach that should be taken. I am still
confused.

You will need a program to capture streams. There are several out there including
replay radio, total recorder, and something with a name like recall pro. Each cost a
small amount for a fully functioning program. Gold wav and sound forge will also
allow you to record streams, but their forte lies in their ability to edit wav files.

Hi, Mac, there are two programs that will do this for you, but they're
not free, they are total recorder from
http://www.highcriteria.com
and recall pro from
http://www.sagebrush.com.
Total recorder has 2 versions, a standard version which is $13, and a
professional version which is $40. I think recall pro is $40 but not
sure about that. I really like total recorder, and you can even
convert to mp3 as it is recording. Monty Icenogle did a tutorial for
total recorder, and you can hear it at
http://www.acbradio.org/archives/mainmenu/mm0883.mp3.
Hope this helps you.

Is there a trick to this or am I just not seeing what is up with it? I
listened to Brian Hartgen's tutorial, on A C B Main Menu, but it was a
little bit too technical or something.

Any help?

Re: Capturing Streaming Audio, to Hard Drive...

2004-06-22 Thread Mac Norins
Marty,

Now we're getting somewhere! I just went to the Total Recorder website,
which even gave me some tutorial help on PC Audio, in case anyone's
interested. I will check out that tutorial on Main Menu, as well. I am a
firm believer in Linda Goodman's adage : When the student is ready, the
teacher will come ! I am not absolutely sure that I am ready, but
synchronicity also says that this stuff is coming to me, just as I am
getting ready for it to!

Thanks, plus may you have happy Shoutcasting!
 Later,

-Mac-

Hi, Mac, there are two programs that will do this for you, but they're
not free, they are total recorder from
 http://www.highcriteria.com
 and recall pro from
 http://www.sagebrush.com.
Total recorder has 2 versions, a standard version which is $13, and a
professional version which is $40. I think recall pro is $40 but not
sure about that. I really like total recorder, and you can even
convert to mp3 as it is recording. Monty Icenogle did a tutorial for
total recorder, and you can hear it at
 http://www.acbradio.org/archives/mainmenu/mm0883.mp3.
 Hope this helps you.

Re: multimedia question

2004-06-22 Thread mimi
Hello, Tony,

What the person who did the encoding did was set the bit rate to 32; that is
the reason they got 50 hours of material on one CD in mp3 form. I encode
all the time, and do this for talking books, which is just someone reading a
book anyway. Of course, for music, a much higher rate is preferable, so I
do my music in 128 to 192. Above and the mp3 files would be much too big.
I mp3 classical and pop music so this is understandable. Hope I have
answered your query. Anytime someone puts around 50 hours of stuff on a CD,
they have used the smallest bit rate setting.

Mimi

Hi yall,

Maybe somebody can answer this one because I'm just not sure of this.
Here's my quandry.

I am a bunch of mp3's on my hard drive and I've got nero 5.5 as my rom
burner. A friend of mine gave me a disk with about 50 hours worth of stuff
on it. I wonder if this compilation was made with a different type of cd. I
know you can store all kinds of material on a dvd rom but this wasn't one of
those. What type of blank media is that and can nero work with it? I'm
going to be stripping this computer soon and installing win2k on it. Thanks
for helping in advance guys and dolls.

Tony

Re: why mp3s will not burn and more wavs do

2004-06-22 Thread mimi
mp3 is data. It is compressed and takes up less room than audio tracks on a
CD. That is why at 128 bit rate or slightly higher you can get 200 songs
onto a CD in mp3 form. It might puzzle you a bit until you figure out how
it works. Why it works that way, I don't even know and I mp3 everyday!

Just a thought, because I don't know, someone gave me the impression that
MP3's were burnt as data rather than audio?

a users guide needed

2004-06-22 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi listers, Rusty here,
I recently purchased the iRiver iHP 140 player. I've been
searching Amazon.com, where I purchased the unit, and iriver.com for a
manual or users guide in accessible formats, txt html or whatever. I can't
find any place where I can download such a beast. Do any of you, gentle
listers, know where I could get one? If anyone has scanned it, I would
sure appreciate a copy. My scanner is currently not working, and
purchasing iRiver products precludes getting a new one at the present time.

Thanks, in advance for any help.
