Re: Dell Laptop And Compatible Sound Caards Question?

2004-10-30 Thread Chrissie
Hi mary

Unfortunately it's difficult to turn the volume down on the fly for
individual channels. There is a volume control on the top of the card
itself for turning it down generally, but if you want to turn down
individual channels, you have to go into the indigo control panel where
there's a very graphic mixing panel with 8 volume controls and you have to
turn down the individual ones.

In other words the card has 8 inputs and 1 output. The default settings are
quite acceptable I've found so quite frankly I've left well alone and just
treated it as a multi-channel sound card. I guess however, that being
multi-channel virtually in the true sense of the word, if you turn down the
volume in your speech package itself, it shouldn't affect the rest.

Hope that's helpful.

Chrissie

Yes, it is I just was wondering if on the fly you could do it.
Nice to know that it is a multichannel sound card. The music separation from
that thing is better than most hi fidelity systems I have heardexcept for

internet radio.

2004-10-30 Thread brian_dalton
Hi all,

I installed real player v10.5
during the instillation I noticed something about autofill. However, I did
not hear the full message.
I later uninstalled this as I wasn't happy with it.

when I now try and connect to radio stations on the web, I get a message
saying autofill media blocked option and when I press enter on this, the
station begins to play.
note, I did not get this autofil option message when trying to play radio
stations before installing real player 10.5.

after I uninstalled this, I ran add aware and it removed one piece of
spyware from my pc.

I went into security in internet tools/options but could not shed any light
on it.

has anyone any ideas about this autofil media blocking option?

Re: WinMx

2004-10-30 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Paul and Kristen,
First of all, Winmx works pretty well even without scripts, though I do
appreciate the added functionality of the scripts. One tip if you decide to
try without the scripts is that you might consider the verbosity option of
turning on foreground colors so that you can tell the state of your uploads
and downloads. In other words, if a particular file is identified with
cyan, it means the file has been successfully/completely downloaded, green
means it is still in progress, red means it has stopped and is incomplete
etc. Hope this helps.

Paul, I'm using JAWS 4.02 and Windows 98. For the most part I can use the
PC cursor except to enter on a download link or a context item within the
transfers window. I'm not sure how much this varies from system to system
or with OS or screenreader and version, but I am quite used to it and have
not found it to be a problem beyond the initial adjustment of learning the
program. I guess it depends on how comfortable folks are with the JAWS
cursor in general--in this instance I would not say the program is
inaccessible for that reason.

Chris,
Both can be found at the jfwlite page. Go the programs link under
www.jfwlite.com and you'll see links to the Winmx scripts and to the Winmx
homepage. I would suggest you download version 3.31. The scripts were
written for 3.30 but they work for 3.31 also. Only thing I'm not sure of is
whether you will need to compile them depending on which version of JAWS you
are running. In the Helpful Hints section, there may be some info on this
or hopefully someone else knows for sure. Hope this helps.

I tried this on winamp4the blind with no results. Perhaps someone here can
help me.
I have the latest winamp installed on my win xp system with jfw 5.10.
I had Real Alternative also, but when a real audio stream came up,
The thing hijacked my volume control, turning my waveout right off.
So, I uninstalled Real Alternative. My problem is that I can't play any
real audio content.
The Real Alternative player is called media player classic, I think.
I can't use the tara plug-in, so I'm told.
What can I do to get ra, rj, ram, etc files to play??

Senhauser noise reduction headphones:

2004-10-30 Thread Mary Ellen Earls
Hello all!
I have a brand new set of senhauser noise reduction wireless headphones
which I absolutely can't for the life of me figure out.
1. when you buy them do the batteries come with them? I got this thing which
looks like a cradel which you put the headphones on to charge and of course
you have the charger plug. Ok now there came with it a head phone chord
which has a usb connecter at one end and the head phone jack on the other.
Do you plug the usb into the cradle and the jack into whatever you want to
listen to?
Ok, if the answer is yes, how do you get any sound to go into the
headphones?
I have not been able to get a sound from the headphones.
Alright, another question, will these work with a computer or does it have
to be a television or hi fidelity stereo system only?
Sorry for all the questions but I simply don't know.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Mary Ellen Earls

RE: Playing real audio content

2004-10-30 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
If you have uninstalled Real Alternative, and don't have Real
Player, you cannot play real content. You need either to reinstall Real
Alternative and the Tara plug-in, or to install Real Player.
If you install Real Alternative/Tara, I'd suggest getting a program
like Quickmix
 http://www.jfwlite.com/QuickMixIn.EXE
and seeing why your volume is being reduced or muted, and which
program is reducing or muting it.
Aman

Configuring Router for Shoutcast Plug-in

2004-10-30 Thread Bruce Toews
I have a DLINK router, and I want to configure it so that I can use a
Shoutcast server.

1. How do I determine what my computer's IP address is, the one the router
needs to pass ports through to?

2. How can I specifically open ports 8000 and 8001?
If your answer is just that you think my router is crap, then please don't
bother yourself with answering. This is what I've got.
