Re: Dell Laptop And Compatible Sound Caards Question?
Hi mary Unfortunately it's difficult to turn the volume down on the fly for individual channels. There is a volume control on the top of the card itself for turning it down generally, but if you want to turn down individual channels, you have to go into the indigo control panel where there's a very graphic mixing panel with 8 volume controls and you have to turn down the individual ones. In other words the card has 8 inputs and 1 output. The default settings are quite acceptable I've found so quite frankly I've left well alone and just treated it as a multi-channel sound card. I guess however, that being multi-channel virtually in the true sense of the word, if you turn down the volume in your speech package itself, it shouldn't affect the rest. Hope that's helpful. Yes, it is I just was wondering if on the fly you could do it. Nice to know that it is a multichannel sound card. Re: WinMx
Paul and Kristen, First of all, Winmx works pretty well even without scripts, though I do appreciate the added functionality of the scripts. One tip if you decide to try without the scripts is that you might consider the verbosity option of turning on foreground colors so that you can tell the state of your uploads and downloads. In other words, if a particular file is identified with cyan, it means the file has been successfully/completely downloaded, green means it is still in progress, red means it has stopped and is incomplete etc. Hope this helps. Paul, I'm using JAWS 4.02 and Windows 98. For the most part I can use the PC cursor except to enter on a download link or a context item within the transfers window. I'm not sure how much this varies from system to system or with OS or screenreader and version, but I am quite used to it and have not found it to be a problem beyond the initial adjustment of learning the program. I guess it depends on how comfortable folks are with the JAWS cursor in general--in this instance I would not say the program is inaccessible for that reason. Chris, Both can be found at the jfwlite page. Go the programs link under www.jfwlite.com and you'll see links to the Winmx scripts and to the Winmx homepage. I would suggest you download version 3.31. The scripts were written for 3.30 but they work for 3.31 also. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether you will need to compile them depending on which version of JAWS you are running.
