Hi Julie, nice to hear from another lyric writer. I don't know if you have
had the same difficulty's finding song writing resources on the Internet as
I have, but the most difficult thing of all, is to get in touch with other
visually impaired song writers. There must be lots of us out there, but
finding them is the problem.
Wonder, do you use a chat messenger, such as MSN. That could be a way for
VIP song writers to get in touch, what do you think.
Hope you don't think I'm being presumptuous, but what style of music do you
write in. I'm heavily into Blues and Country lyrics.
Hope to hear from you soon as.

what you can do with this function. The person said you have to find a what

record files other than CD tracks. Hope someone can help as I'd love to

SoundBlaster audigy 2 question

2005-03-26 Thread Judy W

Hi,

I have a soundBlaster audigy 2 internal card. I have been using a mic
plugged into the back of the card. I just bought a headset microphone. I
pluged the headset and mic in to the front pannel.

Two things are happening. First of all, when I plug in the headset, it
isn't muting the external speakers connected in the back. How do I fix this?

The second thing is that when the mic in the front is selected and plugged
in I can hear it through the headphones or the speakers when they are turned
up. This is causing feedback--it's acting like a pa system.

Any help would be appreciated...

Judy

2005-03-26 Thread Larry N
Hi Judy. I have the same sound card and I'm also experiencing something
with it that I don't understand. But first, your situation. the speakers
should definitely mute when you plug in headphones. Your speakers should be
plugged into the third jack from the right on the back, when viewed while
facing the front of the computer. If that is the case, then headphones
plugged into their front pannel jack ought to mute the speakers. I'm not
sure about the mic issue as I haven't used one with this system as yet.
Still, I don't think that speakers are automatically muted when the mic is
engaged. Is there any difference when you have the headphone jack only
plugged in? Maybe the combination of the mic jack and headphone jack both
being plugged in is causing your speakers to remain engaged? In that case,
the simplest work around would, as you have no doubt deduced, be to simply
turn the speakers down or off when using your headset.

My problem also lives on the card's front pannel. I'm trying to access the
auxiliary-in jacks on the front pannel. To me, logically sound should come
through the spekers as they are the line out counterpoint to the auxiliary's
line in. Am I missing a step here?

RE: SoundBlaster audigy 2 question

2005-03-26 Thread Judy W
I muted my mic in the play controls and it is no longer coming through my
headphones. The speakers are plugged in to the third jack in the back and I
found I that the only solution at this point is to turn them down.

The audigy with the break out box (not the one I'm currently working with)
can mute speakers by using the feature where you push in the volume knob for
the phones.

Concerning your issue with the line in, I think you want to hear the line in
through your speakers--try unmuting the line in in the play controls and
make sure the volume is up in play and also in record...

Hope this helps,

Judy

What are you referring to as dvd menus, the ones that are bitmaps? What
are they supposed to do? In Windvd Menus are accessible by hitting letter
B--things like options, play, stop, select language etc.

Downloading NLS Books

2005-03-26 Thread Kristine Hickerson
Hi All,

Well, I found the books I wanted from the NLS WebBraille catalog and
downloaded several of them.

However, when I try to read them with my screenreader and braille display I
get garbage. There will be a few recognizable words with lots of various
symbols and number around them. You can't make any sense out of it and
there's no way I could try to read a book this way.

I had this problem at first when I just tried to open them from the NLS
website. So after reading the question and answer section I discovered how
to set up a brf file and I elected to use wordpad. So now when I download
they go to my documents file but when wordpad tries to open them they are a
mess.

What have I done wrong. Are there other changes I need to make for these
files to display in readable form?

Thanks so much.

Kris H.

I'd appreciate some help with the new soundforge8. I don't quite
understand
how to cut out a portion of a sound. With the older soundforge it was left
bracket and then right bracket and then delete. This new one is completely
different. Any help is welcome. They have tons of new keyboard commands in
this new version and since I've just upgraded from sf6 I'm a bit lost.
 Thanks.

With SF8 it is i (that's the key i on your keyboard) for left marker and
o for right marker - or is that in and out.

re: Downloading NLS Books

2005-03-26 Thread Robert Carter
Hi Kris,

The books are in contracted or grade 2 braille. That is why they read like
jiberish in your word processor. You have to use special software to translate
the books into regular text. There is some braille translation software that
will do this that is available through the nfb for free. You can probably find
it at their web site. The Kurzweil 1000 will also translate these books. The
Book Port will as well.

good luck,

Robert Carter

Subject: Downloading NLS Books

Kris H.
