Did you have any interference or shut down of jaws when you loaded up?
I run jaws 8 with xp-home, could this be my problem?

station playlist streamer

2008-04-14 Thread Frank Ventura
Hello all, I have an old PC in my basement in which I have ripped most
of my CDs on to. I want to be able to have them playing in random
(shuffle) mode and be able to listen to it on any of my other PCs in the
house (3 PCs and two wireless laptops). I have come across a program
called Station Playlist Streamer which sounds like it may do what I need
for around $100. Does anyone have any information on this product? Will
it do what I need it to do and is it accessible with a screen reader?

Re: So does Magic Jack work with JAWS?

2008-04-14 Thread tickpub
Hi, Magic Jack is a wonderful little device that allows a computer user
to call anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico and across the world if two
of them are used, all for free!
There must be a broad ban or fast DSL connection in order to use.
It simply plugs into a USB port and away you go, if your lucky!
For myself, I am having some problems trying to get it loaded up without
knocking down my sound. But for others, it seems to be just fine, but
that is my luck.

Hi All, Ok, about Magic Jack, glad your doing ok with it. I tried it as it
so states in its set up and nothing went right.
So far, it has taken me two days to try and figure out what the heck went
wrong. I cannot find anything that it downloaded, this is necessary in order
to clean out my system and possibly try again. But here is the really bad
thing; all my sounds are gone now. I go into the sound settings and try
loading up one of my own or any other and no go. I tried just setting one,
like windows start and when I click the play button to as if test the sound,
a dialouge box shows and says that this media file cannot be played because
my sound card is now in use and as far as I know, this is bunk.
My jaws works ok, but no sounds in any program. I use to get a sound to
notify me that I got email, now nothing; and so on.

So, does anyone know how to get my sound card working again?
I really would like to get MJ working but not at the expense of jaws or any
other interference.
Any ideas out there?

  Hello James!

To answer your question about Magicjack and Screenreaders (JAWS or

Windows-eyes), yes, a blind person can use it just fine. All you
 do
is insert the Magicjack into a USB port and it installs itself
temporarily. You have to answer a few questions at the sign-in
screen the first time, but that is it. The interface on the
 screen
is not to accessible, but it has a skype-like interface and you
 can
enter numbers and there is a dial and hang-up button. However,
 once
the program is loaded, you can minimize the screen, so Magicjack
 is
hidden or minimized; then you can plug a regular house phone into

the MJ unit and you are ready to go. You get a regular dial-tone

and you can make phone calls directly from the regular phone. You

don't even have to use the screen at all. It works directly like
 a
  regular phone.

One thing: On my old Dell Desktop, once I plug the MJ unit, the

sound goes to the phone (XP Pro); however, when I plug the MJ unit

into the HP Desktop (Vista) I don't get the same effect and the
sound stays with the computer. You can turn off JAWS and just use

the phone. Some guy said you could start JAWS first and plug in
 the
MJ unit later and the USB may not take over the sound card.

Like I said, MJ is definitely usable via the phone regardless of

  your screenreader.

I have the unit and it works fine. They could, however, do a
 little
script-type work on the screen interface. The good thing about it

is that, once you get the unit, your phone costs go way down. You

only have to pay a small licensing fee in succeeding years ($18 a

year for me, as I bought unit early, but it may be cheaper for
current purchasers). Free long distance in US and Canada and
 skype-
type credits for calling abroad. I think, however, that, if you

sent a friend or relative in another country a unit, you could
 have
free long-distance calling, as long as you both are logged on or
 if
you call your MJ number and it is in England, they could answer it

and pay nothing. I like that.

Why does Winamp reset volume on stream drop?

2008-04-14 Thread Steve Matzura
Does anybody know the answer to this annoyance? While listening to a
stream, if the stream drops and then comes back, Winamp automatically
shoots the volume up to full, which, if you were listening to
something quietly in the background, can be a real shockeroo! A tap
on the up- or down-arrow key will, however, reset the volume level to
whatever it was before the disconnect, plus or minus one step
(depending on whether you pressed up- or down-arrow). The problem is
that if you're using software speech and you turn Winamp down to hear
your machine do other things, when the stream pops back in, you get a
good blast!

Re: QuickKam stx

2008-04-14 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
It usually works by itself. Just plug in the device and eloquence will
switch to the external device. Unplug it and jaws will switch back to the
internal soundcard. It doesn't always work like this though. In those cases
restarting the screen reader will help. Sometimes unplugging the device
while software is using it to play audio causes that software to crash, jaws
included (sometimes). It works ok though, and USB headphones seam to do the
same thing, mine do anyway, act as an audio class device. It's useful for a
computer that doesn't have a sound card or has a messed up one.

there's a will a way and a program that will do it. It's called audio
converter. I've been using it for a number of years for just such a task.
It runs about 20 buycks for a license but once you've gotten it you're
pretty much set. to get it go to http://www.audioconverter.com

Hi everyone. Thanks to those who posted with suggestionson unlocking DRM
files, I'm grateful. I do have some requests for help though so pleas
forgive this longish post. Firstly the purchasing of Sound Taxi was no easy
task. I had to get sighted assistance on the last page to confirm the order

I would appreciate any help from those who use Sound taxi as it isn't very
accessible. I've managed to convert the 24 files I had downloaded but I had
very little, in fact no control over the finished product. The original
download files were 192 bit and when I converted these the bit rate varied
from 160 to 320. If anyone is familiar with using Sound Taxi with a screen
reader then I would appreciate your help in organising the programme for
ease of use. Also, are there any Scripts for Sound Taxi that would make
things easier and if so, where do I find them. Many thanks in advance to

In the preferences menu you can set the volume to return to its original
 value upon restart.

Subject: Why does Winamp reset volume on stream drop?

Does anybody know the answer to this annoyance? While listening to a
stream, if the stream drops and then comes back, Winamp automatically
 shoots
the volume up to full, which, if you were listening to something quietly
 in
the background, can be a real shockeroo! A tap on the up- or down-arrow
 key
will, however, reset the volume level to whatever it was before the
disconnect, plus or minus one step (depending on whether you pressed up-
 or
down-arrow). The problem is that if you're using software speech and you
turn Winamp down to hear your machine do other things, when the stream
 pops
back in, you get a good blast!

Hi everyone. Thanks to those who posted with suggestionson unlocking DRM
files, I'm grateful. I do have some requests for help though so pleas
forgive this longish post. Firstly the purchasing of Sound Taxi was no
 easy
task. I had to get sighted assistance on the last page to confirm the
 order
and that required the use of the mouse. I am totally blind and use JAWS
 7.
I would appreciate any help from those who use Sound taxi as it isn't very
accessible. I've managed to convert the 24 files I had downloaded but I
 had
very little, in fact no control over the finished product. The original
download files were 192 bit and when I converted these the bit rate varied
from 160 to 320. If anyone is familiar with using Sound Taxi with a
 screen
reader then I would appreciate your help in organising the programme for
ease of use. Also, are there any Scripts for Sound Taxi that would make
things easier and if so, where do I find them. Many thanks in advance to

Hello James!

To answer your question about Magicjack and Screenreaders (JAWS or
Windows-eyes), yes, a blind person can use it just fine. All you do is
insert the Magicjack into a USB port and it installs itself temporarily.
You have to answer a few questions at the sign-in screen the first time, but
that is it. The interface on the screen is not to accessible, but it has a
skype-like interface and you can enter numbers and there is a dial and
hang-up button. However, once the program is loaded, you can minimize the
screen, so Magicjack is hidden or minimized; then you can plug a regular
house phone into the MJ unit and you are ready to go. You get a regular
dial-tone and you can make phone calls directly from the regular phone. You
don't even have to use the screen at all. It works directly like a regular
phone.

One thing: On my old Dell Desktop, once I plug the MJ unit, the sound goes
to the phone (XP Pro); however, when I plug the MJ unit into the HP Desktop
(Vista) I don't get the same effect and the sound stays with the computer.
You can turn off JAWS and just use the phone. Some guy said you could start
JAWS first and plug in the MJ unit later and the USB may not take over the
sound card.

Like I said, MJ is definitely usable via the phone regardless of your
screenreader.

I have the unit and it works fine. They could, however, do a little
script-type work on the screen interface. The good thing about it is that,
once you get the unit, your phone costs go way down. You only have to pay a
small licensing fee in succeeding years ($18 a year for me, as I bought unit
early, but it may be cheaper for current purchasers). Free long distance in
US and Canada and skype-type credits for calling abroad. I think, however,
that, if you sent a friend or relative in another country a unit, you could
have free long-distance calling, as long as you both are logged on or if you
call your MJ number and it is in England, they could answer it and pay
nothing. I like that.

James

I'm running XP Service Pack 2. Everything is updated including Windows
 Media Player 11

My problem is that I can't get any third party software to recognize the
 one
burner I have. It's a very generic burner-I can't even remember the name
 of
it-but it only wants to work with Windows Media Player.

That's all well and good and I have WMP set up the way I want it. My
 point
is that these other programs should work on my machine. I've tried Nero
Burning ROM and Roxio's Creator Classic for burning and copying files and
the burner isn't recognized. Every menu function pertaining to it is
disabled. If I use CDex to rip a CD it will not compress the file.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

RE: Burning and Extraction Problems

2008-04-14 Thread Dan Kerstetter
I tried both Versions 7 and 8.

I've discovered the problem is with my CD burner. It was so cheap that it
came with no software and therefore, uses a windows generic driver. I can't
use any external program to rip or burn. I think I'm probably stuck buying
a new burner. This time I'll pick it out.

RE: Sound Taxi, a pain in the ***

2008-04-14 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi Doc. I have tried the keys you mentioned and there is no response. I
fear that I must just put up with the limited use of this program until I
can get a hold of JAWS 8 or higher, then I can use the scripts. I must just
avoid downloading protected files and if I must, then at least I am able to
convert them, all be it without the ability to select the bit rate and just
accept the B.R. I get, which is a bit of a lottery. Walter.

Hi Abarney. As I said in an earlier post I can convert files but with no
control of the bit rate. When I launch Sound Taxi there is about 10
 seconds
of non activity then I get a tone such as when something has been
 completed,
like at the end of a burn sequence in Nero. However, I have to alt tab to
another window to get the option to select the files for conversion. I am
unable to use the file menu as it is frozen as is the application key. If
you could give me some idea of keystrokes or short cut keys I would be

Hi everyone. Thanks to those who posted with suggestionson unlocking

forgive this longish post. Firstly the purchasing of Sound Taxi was no
 easy
task. I had to get sighted assistance on the last page to confirm the

 7.
I would appreciate any help from those who use Sound taxi as it isn't
 very
accessible. I've managed to convert the 24 files I had downloaded but I
 had
very little, in fact no control over the finished product. The original

 varied
from 160 to 320. If anyone is familiar with using Sound Taxi with a

Re: So does Magic Jack work with JAWS?

2008-04-14 Thread tickpub
Wow, hope you can, got troubles here?
Ok, so far, something has happened to my soundcard so one error said.
No more sounds at all; not with windows boot up or start, no sounds when
I use to get them with new email, no nothing. I tried resetting them but
it tells me that it has something to do with my sound card.
Jaws works fine, and mp3 and wav files will play but none of my voices
other than jaws set voice will work. So apparently, trying to install MJ
created a conflict with my sound card.
Also, now textaloud and Dsppech will not function.
All this took place when MJ locked up my com.
I also would like to know what is Natural speak, does that work with the
soundcard?
Maybe it or some driver got knocked out???
So, first I must now solve these major problems in order to try MJ again.
Thank you and would appriciate any help at all.

Hi, Magic Jack is a wonderful little device that allows a computer
 user
to call anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico and across the world
 if two
of them are used, all for free!
There must be a broad ban or fast DSL connection in order to use.
It simply plugs into a USB port and away you go, if your lucky!
For myself, I am having some problems trying to get it loaded up
 without
knocking down my sound. But for others, it seems to be just fine,
 but
 that is my luck.

CD/DVD Drive Problem

2008-04-14 Thread Wes Derby
Hi All.

Okay, here's a strange one, and I can't seem to figure out how to stop it.
Lately, my computer thinks it has a virtual CD/DVD drive. Now, I have two
drives, and they're both there, but now there's a third one which doesn't
really exist, but it's decided to be the G drive. I've tried removing the
driver in the device manager. That works until I reboot the system, then
I come back and it's there. Also, when it reinstalls itself, for some
reason, it will often decide to call itself the F drive, and change my hard
drive to the G drive, which then makes my iPod the H drive, screwing up my
Voicebox shortcut for Rockbox, as well as my Winamp library since all my
music's on the external drive. I know how to change the drive letter for
the hard drive, but don't see any of my CD/DVD drives listed when I change
drive letters, so am not sure how to make the virtual maybe the Z drive or
something.

But, what I'd really like to know is, how do I get rid of this virtual
drive? I first noticed it either around the time I installed Ashampoo
Burning Studio 7 (works very well with JAWS for making CDs and DVDS, by the
way), or after I ran RegCleanXP...I did both about the same time, and that's
when this extra drive started popping up.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi, Gary. You can definitely set up your original file with a start
 marker.
that's what I do before starting a mix. I find it easier than trying to
 set
it up from the mix dialog. Also, a tip that I learned from
Bruce recently that I've found to be incredibly helpful is the fact that
 you
can set cue points while recording. Doing this allows me to jump to
specific places in the file during editing which really saves lots of
 time.
One thing to note with this though, the ability to set cue points during
recording was broken in an earlier release, (I believe it might have been
5.22 or 5.23, but it is most definitely fixed in 5.30.

Create your main recording with the speech. When you are ready to fade
 in
the music Pull up the music in a second window, select the amount of
 fade
in, copy the track, control tab to the speech track, press control m,
 this
opens the mix window where you can determine where the mix should start.

Subject: Comparison of edoral and zoom

 Hi
Can anyone give me info on either or both the Edoral or Zoom 2 or 4 track
digital recorders - in particular how accessible are they for a total
blind person. I'm fairly used to working out menus etc. and like the idea
of the 4 track ones but I would like to check your experiences before
 buying.
 Regards.
