if it were me I would use total recorder, or use mp3direct cut. I know that the cut has the ability to split up your tracks. I haven't used it that way. I usualy use it to cut up files taken of the winamp radio. Total recorder is your best bet Theres two levelstheres a $12 one and a pro version for $35 . The mic jack is all you have on an Iphone. If you record from your Iphone Plug your recorder in the output side of the cable. If you wand to use the iphone as a recorder, depending on the level, you might have to atenuate. There is no way to set level in the Iphone. Also voiceover will be in the way. . I was asked to check this out from a user point of view and didn't find it accessible. I was asked on behalf of a charity project to play around with pre-uploaded music files and didn't find the free version much use. This guy wanted to upload audio files for the public to play such as info regarding government benefits etc. I'll paste my response to that guy below so you will see my experience. Walter. Hi Glyn. Firstly my apology; I was going through my deleted items, clearing them out when I came across your email. somehow it went straight to my deleted items rather than my in box. I would have replied sooner if I had seen it so sorry about that. OK. This is my initial input regarding the site. The music is displayed clearly and the play button is easy to find and activate but that is where the simplicity ends and the problems begin. Once you have activated the play button and the music plays, there is no way you can use the other play controls because the music drowns out the screen reader and as there is no keyboard short cut keys trying to use them is a hiding to nothing. You have to wait for a quiet passage in the audio before trying frantically to find a control but the quiet period never lasts long enough for you to find what you want. This is the free version and I noticed there is a Pro service but I guess you have to pay for that but there is no way of telling if the pro version is any more accessible than the free version and in any case, the people who would want to play any files you upload would use the free service. As I've said I've only looked at the site briefly and when I discovered getting to the play controls during playback was problematic I didn't go any further. As with WMP, if there were short cut keys such as Control+s for stop or Control+p for pause or control+m for mute or+control +r for rewind then it would be a good service to utilise. It might be you can map the keyboard and create these shortcuts but I'd need to look further into the site and I'll do that as soon as I can. Of course this initial summery is from a blind point of view. People with hearing loss or other disabilities but who have site, or even some partially sighted folk would be able to use it. Unfortunately though if you have no usable sight and in the absence of play controls accessibility then it wouldn't be of any use to them. Nonetheless you have to consider the majority of people who would use the facility and a minority group shouldn't be allowed to veto something because they are disenfranchised; you can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you will never please all of the people all of the time. This doesn't mean that solutions aren't sought to resolve the disenfranchisement and that might be by linking to another service. I will ask on the tech lists I'm on to see what can be done and will get back to you. Re: Advice Sought on New Soundcard
Hi, I found one called the m track. There no specs about it on the mp-4 file I found. Let me know if you wan't to hear it. It has faders for left and right channels. It also has insert jacks so you can send your unprocessed audio to a processor, effects box Or compressor. It has digital coax in and out midi in and out. and xlr left and right and quarter inch left and right. Do not use them together, you'l blow the preamp. The price was $150 usd. -Original Message- From: Hamit Campos Sent: Monday, February 02, 2015 11:59 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Advice Sought on New Soundcard Cool. Re: splitting files, automatic stop and screen reader sound stop
Hi Joe. here's how you do it. The shift l marks the beginning of a file. The shift r marks the end of a file or selection. Ones these are marked and you hit the delete key you delete the selection. If you want to save the selection, look in the edit menu and save selection. also you can go to the files menu and save selection there. Hope that helps. -Original Message- From: Joe Giovanelli Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2014 2:00 PM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: splitting files, automatic stop and screen reader sound stop Hello, All, Happy Thanksgiving! A couple of weeks back someone on this list recommended that I use Totalrecorder to split a file into separate tracks. Looking at the manual, I see that there's automatic stop and the ability to suppress speech from screen readers. The manual is very confusing to me. I prefer step by step instructions as to how to do various tasks. Information is scattered throughout and I don't know which items I should look at in order to accomplish my requirements. Some of the screens in the program are not labeled so I was not able to figure out whether a box works with seconds, minutes or even megabytes. I realize it would be a time consuming project to write out all the steps, but perhaps someone can point the way so I can figure out how to accomplish these things. Joe Giovanelli

As I understand it - someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure smile. - iPod sharing Apps were written in the days of the iPod Nano, Shuffle etc well before the iPhones we're using now came along so - if that's the case - then these sharing Apps probably won't work given the iPhone has a different data distribution system, in effect the iPhone is locked and I think the only way to share your iPhones data openly - say music you've downloaded from the iTunes store or music you've aded to your music collection through iTunes - is to jail break the iPhone. I understand that installing some sort of file manager on the phone would give partial access to those areas allowed to it, if it were connected to dropbox or a wireless device as you mentioned here, but how well does that work for all types of media other than music, like audio books. Also, does installing a file manager on the phone give complete access to all media on a phone, without you having to jealbreak? I'm mainly curious as one major downfall I have with storing my music and books on my phone is the ability to retrieve them from the phone if I no longer have them in my ITunes library on my computer. There's plenty of software for doing this, but as far as I've been able to figure out, not much of it is accessible. I'm not an iTunes user by default though I do have an iTunes library of Favorites, that's in the Cloud and available on my iTunes match so any IOS or device with iTuens installed can take advantage of the Match so I may enjoy my collection at any time, so far so good. As I'm using FLAC files more regularly I had to find a third party solution as I detailed in my original eMail on this thread thus I got the Skyshare Drive and started playing with other Apps to get that music onto my iPhone or at least have access to it so I needen't bother with iTunes. This I can just plug into my computer and copy the files to the device or I can insert large sd drives plus having the possibilities you mentioned, at least with a smartphone. So I think it's rather like this: If you compromise to playing music with a non-jailbreaked--or is it broken?--IPhone, you'll have to accept the more tedious ways of moving around things, i.e. buying an app here and a hard drive there. I for my part use the amazon cloud player which gives me enough music to listen to whenever I feel like doing so on the IPhone which I usually don't and play all the rest with my Plextalk Pocket, which involves other ways of compromising. The other annoyance with IOS is that - unless you have an adapter available from Apple - you cannot copy your music files from say your computer over a USB connection to a particular folder on your iPhone of your choosing but again, there are ways around that snag. Okay so its best not to focus on what can’t be done and focus on what can be done so let’s do that with IOS. The first App you’ll need is a Player and there are several good one’s out there but for the sake of simplicity let’s focus on two, oOplayer and File Browser, both do exactly what their names suggest. With both you can set up remote locations such as a Dropbox account, computer on a local or remote network, UPNP/DLNA device and so on, when configured you can then select what files you wish to hear or view. Now supposing you want to take your iPhone away from any network and want your favourite music to accompany you? No problem as both the aforementioned Apps will allow you to download your Music from a specific point - computer, Dropbox account etc - right to a folder on your iPhone where you can browse, play and manipulate your files to your hearts content. So this brings us to another possibly challenging topic, iPhones have only so much storage space so what if you have thousands upon thousands of files you wish to access at any one time or supposing your music collection is in a Lossless format that takes up a good deal of space? If this is the case then its time to look at a pocket sized hard drive with a built-in Wi-Fi network, I mentioned my Skyshare drive towards the end of last week and this drive has its own built-in Wi-Fi network which the iPhone can connect to. Once connected the Apps I mentioned earlier - oOplayer and File Browser - have direct access to the drive thus the content you’ve placed too the drive. The Skyshare drive on the surface looks like any other portable hard drive, it has a USB port on the back for connection to a computer with a USB 3.0 port for the copying and

Re: no microfone on laptop
The apple products and the new hp computers do this. You need a cable the breaks up in to an ear phone stereo jack and a mic jack. You'l find this at amazon in the apple accessories section. Belcon and Cmedia make them. The cable has 4 connectoion. tip two rings and a sleeve. The jacks are a stereo earphone and a microphone jack. About $3 or 4 dolars. Also radio shack sels an adapter that does the same thing. Good luck. -Original Message- From: Paul Hunt Sent: Friday, July 25, 2014 7:26 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: no microfone on laptop If your laptops are like nine the headphones and microphone share the same jack. Should I save all the files as one long .m3u file or can I just put the files on the drive as individual mp3s. The way the thumb drive in my Mom's car works, is simple. All you have to do is put the thumb drive in, and the music starts playing. Then, when you're finished listening, you simply pull the drive out and the radio starts playing again. Cool huh? Hi, It's because the outputs will not be the same in each device. If you turn both of them on and loading the output of one divice will be ok, bacause it was made for that impedance match. Re: How do I put MP3 music files in Booksense XT and in Victor Readerstreme from the PC?
Hi, I can tell you about the stream. The easiest way is to Take the card out of the memory slot, put it in a card reader , then find the music folder. Then control c to copy the file or folder you want to place on your stream. Go to the stream's music folder and do a control v to paste the the file or folder in the vr$ music folder. Take the card of your reader, after you close it. Put it in your stream, and your dun. -Original Message- From: Rosario Perez Sent: Monday, September 09, 2013 4:17 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: How do I put MP3 music files in Booksense XT and in Victor Readerstreme from the PC? The software supplied is Audacity. It works ok except there are two problems. The first I can deal with after a little exploring. What is happening that that as soon as I connect the USB JAWS stops talking. Well, I figured out that JAWS and Audacity are both fighting for my single sound card. So, now I go to the record button and then connect the player, press record and then press play on the player. I can then moniter the player to hear what song is being recorded and when it turns off at the end I just get out of Audacity and JAWS resumes talking. It's a little awkward but it works. The second problem is that once I have the casette transferred it is simply one long file with no markings between songs, so you can't select just one song at a time. Is there a way to put CD markings between songs so you can move from one song to another? Can I do this with Audacity? I don't want to bother to learn a new specialized music program because once I have these tapes copied to the computer then I can put them on my Stream or Apex or whatever so I won't need to mess with this again. What I was wondering was whether or not there's a way of doing it with my computer, using its webcam and microphone. I do some video calling with Skype, and for those sessions, the person on the other end lets me know if I need to move the computer or screen a certain way so that they could get a clear picture of me. I thought perhaps I could do something similar when it came to recording videos. I figured once the screen and camera were positioned, I could use some kind of program to take the video of me playing my instrument and then I could send the video to my friend. Skype wouldn't do it, I know, but is there one that would work well with JAWS? Hi, if you have only a mic jack, you can get an attenuator. Or, find a way to do it from the audio controll pannel. My sony is not a top of the line modle and I have stereo input just for mic.
