This is very strange. I've ripped things in WAV, and it works just fine.
It's probably because of how it didn't complete the rip. I've seen this
happen with DVD Audio Ex
Tractor when you extract a DVD that's a bit damaged and it does kind of
extract the chapter I guess. But not really. It sounds like that's kind of
what happened here but it's hard to say why since you said that the CD is
fine, and it worked when you did it in WMA lausless. But yeah, I prefer PCM
WAV my self.

Hi.

WMP11 has six format settings for ripping CDs. I chose WAV (Lossless). WMP
took a long time to go through the ripping process, and in fact never
completed it, although all the tracks from the CD showed up in the
designated folder. When I attempted to play these tracks, MS responded with
a message to the effect that the player can't play either this CD or this
format.

However, when I put the same CD in just to play, not rip, WMP went right
ahead.

I changed the format to Windows Media Audio Lossless, and the player
smoothly ripped the files to the folder. When it was done, I could play the
tracks from that folder.

There is nothing wrong with this CD. If I just play it, WMP operates fine.
WMP can also rip and play its contents, albeit with my second choice of
format. What it can't do is play files in my preferred format, even though
it's one of the six ripping format options offered by the same WMP.

Any ideas?

Hi joanne,

1. Using Jaws 10 you can read the name of the currently playing track by
pressing insert+ctrl+t.

2. As someone has already said, you can seek back and forward by moving to the
seek slider, just press ctrl+tab once or twice to move to it. Pressing the
arrow keys moves you by one twentieth of the track length. Pressing shift +
arrow keys moves you by one four hundredth of the track length.

3. From the seek slider, you can tab twice to move to current position edit
box, which by default contains the playback position.

For more details, see the playback controls area section of the jaws guide to
wmp 11 which Dean mentioned. Just in case the long url got broken, here's a
short url to that guide,
http://bit.ly/cKZxVR

2010-03-09 Thread Dean Martineau
My suspicion is that these things are not at all easy to do in WMP, which is
partly why there are so many alternative media players out there. I know
that the two deficiencies mentioned in this thread are why I don't use it.

Here's an old Tidbit which somebody might want to follow up on:

David Bailes continues to write free VIP Accessibility Guides. His latest
contribution is a guide to windows Media Player 11 for JAWS users, though
its usefulness is not limited to users of JAWS. this 8,000-word guide can
be had here
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Windows-Media-Player-11-Guide
.html

And here's another one:

Content on the Listen and Learn Recordings site continues to be updated.
You can download or stream the recordings, and a podcast feed is available.
Recent additions include a three-part guide on using Windows Media Player,
guides to installing Linux, and a tutorial on using Talks.
http://www.lalrecordings.com

Hope this proves useful.

I wish I knew a way to do this. I use WMP 10 all the time. I don't
understand why I can not even find the currently playing track title using
the Jaws cursor. I've made sure it is checked in the view menu but it
doesn't appear to be on the screen.

I use a clumsy work around. When a track is playing, go to the file menu
and choose properties. To find the title, you need to change tabs. Very
clumsy but it works. Maybe I could make a simple Jaws script to do this
easier.

Re: burning a cd with windows media player 11 question

2009-11-21 Thread dan thompson

Hi
there, here is how it should work.

Burning an audio cd

1. Insert a blank CDR disc into your CDRW drive.

2. A dialog window should pop up after a few seconds. Your screenreader
should say, CDRW (and the letter of that drive.)

You are in a list view, Press the up or down arrow until you highlight open
rittible cd using windows explorer. Tab to the OK button and hit enter.

You could also just press the letter o followed by enter to open the same cd
folder.

3. Now hold down the right windows key and hit the letter E. This will
bring up

Windows Explorer.

You will land in the treeview on My Computer.

If the files you are looking for is located in My Documents, arrow up one
time then

tab, and then you should be in a list of the files that are in My Documents.

If the files are not in My Documents, then tab one time, hit L for local
drive, hit

enter.

Now you are in a list of folders contained on your C: or main drive.

Navigate to where the files you want to burn are located.

4. Now it is basically a copy and paste process.

Select the files you want to burn either one at a time or group at a time,
and hit

Control C to copy the files.

Remember that to select files, hold down the left control key and press the
space bar on those files you wish to select. If you press the spacebar and
you hear the file's name spoken followed by unselected, press the spacebar
again and that file will be selected. You usually only need press the
spacebar once on each file. Remember to not let go of the control key
while highlighting files. If you happen to accidently let go of the control
key and then arrow down once to the next file, all files are unselected.

5. Now hit alt tab to go to the CDRW drive dialog. Then hit Control V to
paste those

files to the CDRW drive folder.

6. If you have more files to burn, use Alt Tab to switch between the two
windows.

Do steps 4 5 until all of the files you want to burn are copied over.

NOTE: Remember the 700 MB limit per CD.

Make sure the total of all of your files does not go over that limit.

7. Now once you are done copying and ready to burn, Alt Tab until you are in
the CDRW

Drive dialog.

8. Hit Alt F for the file menu. Hit enter on the first choice, which should
be,

write these files to CD.

9. This will bring up the CD burning Wizard dialog. You will be put in a CD
name:

edit box.

The date is automatically put into this box by default.

To give your CD a name, first hit the delete key to clear the edit box, then
type

what you would like to name the CD.

10. Then just tab to the next button and hit the space bar.

11. You are given the choice of two radio buttons. The highlighted one is
make an audio cd for standard audio cd players.

The second radio button is make a data cd for computer and some cd
players.

12.Tab to next and press enter or the space bar.

13. Window media player will open.Tab to burn button and press the
space bar.

14. Tab to start burn and press the space bar or enter. The burning
process will start.

When it is done writing, your CD drive door should automatically pop out so
you can

remove the CD.

You will be placed back into Windows Media Player with the start burn
buttonhighlighted.

I hope the above instructions helped you accomplish what you were wanting to
do!

Can someone please give the step-by- step for burning audio with WMP11.
After I open
the wizzard, and press, next, the burning begins and I have a beta cd when
I want
an audio. About one in ten tries I do actually get the menu choice of
beta or audio.

How can I always get this choice? Any help appreciated,
I am using win-xp pro with Window-eyes 7.1.

High Dan,
When the CD writing wizard comes up, it will give you 2 choices.
It will give you the option to make a data CD or to make an audio CD.
Scroll down to make an audio CD in then press inter for Jaws or click the
next button for Window Eyes.
From that point on, you should be good to go.
My best regards!
  John.

Ok. Probably the stupid question of the day or perhaps the week.

In WMP10, the CD option was on the files menu. I just upgraded to WMP11
and was going to burn a couple of files into an audio CD but now cannot
find the burn option.
Where is it? I do have the Classic Menues enabled if that makes a
difference and I am running xp Home and Window-Eyes 7.01.

there's a jaws guide to wmp 11, and most of it is equally applicable to window
eyes:

the revlevant sections are probably: introduction, main window, player taskbar,
and burn page,

Naming tracks and albums in Windows Media Player 11

2008-05-12 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
On comparison when ripping my CDs in Itunes and WMP11 I find that the naming of
the tracks and albums is much more accurate in Itunes. Having done about 150
albums, about 24 are wrong - the name of the album can be right but the tracks
are not labelled correctly.
I wish to stay with WMP11 as I wish the WMA lossless format. How can I correct
the problem.
Do I have to re-rip or can I get some other naming site to scan the already
ripped tracks and re name them? Can I also re-assign a different naming site to
WMP11?
Thanks for any help.

play lists in media player 11

2007-04-07 Thread Adrien Collins
Hi

I have just worked out how to create playlists for my music
albums using windows media player 11. I have several albums
with more than one cd but mp11 insists on putting album 4 or
8 or another volume above volume one on a playlist. If I
created a separate playlist for each and every cd it would
be too complicated. Mp11 also mixes up the tracks on a play
list i.e. tracks 1 3 5 and so on and the others are listed
at the bottom. I have also noticed mp11 plays the tracks
starting with album 4 whether I want it to or not.

How can I correct all these problems or prevent them
happening in the future?

Regards

Adrien

Well, you do have what is called Full mode. asicly, to the best that I
recall, go to the view menu with alt v, then go down and make sure that
 full
mode is checked. You *do not* want it on skin mode.

just kind a sat there and did absolutely nothing. I do have Sonic Record
Now, but, I really don't wanna put that on, if I can figure out with Media

Thank you so much.

Hey Chris,
I am using WinAmp pro to burn, and I'm not having any troubles, I am using
the scripts though (which I'm sure you know, makes it quite a bit easier).
I downloaded the scripts from the jfw lite site, they're for versions jaws 5

I am using WinAmp pro version 5.31.
Hope this helps,

Re: Media Player 11?

2006-11-11 Thread nick danger
Houdy chris,

Had the chance to check out your FTP explorer tutorial on tech talk, about a
month ago. Great stuff man thanks for that info. Here's how to burn disks
using the media player.

First from your my music folder, select the tracks you want to burn and
Add each one you want to burn to the burn list.

The add to burn list option is in the File menu.

If you are going to add each track individually, your focus will move to the
media player window every time you add a track to the burn list so you'll
have to hit alt-tab to bring the focus back to your file list. If you have
savvy enough though, you can simply select everything you want to burn in
one either contiguous or if need be non-contiguous shot and perform the task
that way. Once you have the files you want, in the media player and it has
focus, press tab to get to the first of the

burn buttons and hit space on it. Then press ctrl-tab to jump directly
to the second of the buttons which is the start burn button. Once you're on

that, press enter on it and you should be in business.

Once you are done with that particular project, you can clear the burn list
so that you won't have the same files going into a new project. Here's how
to do that.

1. Select the entire list of files using Control and the letter a.

2. Press the Application Key.

3. Arrow to the option for removing the selected items, and press enter.

Hope this helps.

At tech talk you can get an excellent verbal explanation of using the media
player from a good friend of mine from the access-comp101 e-mail list Gene
Asner. Trust me, he knows his stuff and is one of the good guys.

Tony

Chris,
This is how it is done if using the scripts. First, open up WinAmp then,
you will hit alt L, to open up the library (where all of the ripping and
burning selections are located) after that, it's going to ask you which
drive it is that you are wanting to use, given that you have more than one
drive. Select the drive which you prefer then tab down to add... then, it
will bring you to files... or folders..., if you are wanting to add just
some various files then you would select files but, if you know which
album/folder it is that you are wanting to burn then select folder... Then,
it's going to place you in a treeview and you'll just need to select which
album/folder it is that you are wanting to burn then tab down to ok.
After you select the album and hit ok, it'll then ask which speed etc. When
ready just hit burn and the rest will be history
Hope that this helps,
Jeremy

Windows Media player 11 works just fine with screenreaders. You may
want to enable the classic menus so that it's a bit easier, but even
with the popup menu interface it has, it's still very usable.

I had to roll back too. The problem is DRM files. I couldn't get a digital
download album I bought off of music giants to play on 11, it'd just say no
license could be found. They told me I needed 10 back to play their stuff so
I did it. They had to credit my account so I could repurchase the tracks as
rolling back and then playing didn't do anything either.

Subject: Windows Media Player 11 and Accessing The Library.

I recently upgraded to Windows Media Player 11 and am finding the library tab
very difficult to get to.
I upgraded after purchasing a flash MP3 player which interfaces with WMP11. I
mainly use Winamp for my music needs but transferring files to my flash player
might be easier with WMP11.
At any rate, in earlier versions of Windows Media Player, it was easy to find
the library somewhere in the menu structure but not so with WMP11. I am
eventually able to get to the library but it seems to be a hit and miss path so
I must be doing something wrong.
I do have Classic menus checked and Full mode, I believe it is--control 1.
Now, this is another problem when I do control 1, the box seems to remain
checked. I am aware that this is required for speech--just wondering why it
won't come unchecked--even while in the menu structure where it says full mode
checked I am not able to uncheck this box.
Perhaps if I could chat with someone who uses this program, I could resolve
these 2 issues--if in fact they are resolvable.
I am using Jaws 7.0 and depend entirely on speech.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
