Hi, sorry to reply with a question and not an answer but could you tell me
how to create a playlist in WMP?

Thanks

Hello, I use Windows Media Player 12 and Windows 10 on a desktop and on a
laptop; is there any kind of program I can use so when I play a playlist
with Windows Media Player my screen reader System access will announce each
song or whatever as it starts? Thanks.

Also, has anyone heard of the 5KPlayer? If so is it accessible for screen
reader users? If it is I could use it to play DVDs in Windows 10. Thanks
in advance for any info you can give.

Have you used the Windows Search?

Go to the desktop and press the start key on your keyboard, you'll then be
prompted to "Search" and presented with an edit box, type in Windows Media
Player and see what happens.

So, I think its wmp.exe that you need to make the shortcut for.

I'd overlooked that possibility, and you're right, WMP is in the X86 list.
However, when I click on it, rather than bring up the program, it takes me to
the files list under program files. See the reply I've just posted to Morey's

Morey, yes, I had found WMP in program files, but I hadn't thought of your
suggestion for how to create a shortcut. I notice three or four .exe files in

Have you checked in the Program files to see if Windows Media Player

If so, open the file and find the .exe file, press the applications

That one I hadn't tried. Well, when I typed plain "media," "Media Player
Classic" comes up, but when I click on it, it doesn't look like WMP. Clearly,
you and several others find WMP in this way and via the taskbar, but curious
that even then, it doesn't show up as other applications do. Thanks, everyone,
for trying.

I figured it may be a long shot. These programme features are

Winamp has a go to time function when playing audio files. Does the
same function exist in WMP 11? and if so, how is it done?
An alternative but similar feature would be the facility to set book
marks in the files, can this be done?

Thanks.

Joe

If there is such a thing, I wouldn't mind hearing about this myself! But to
my knowledge, there isn't such a thing in Windows Media Player; that's why I
like Win amp as often, I'll start to listen to something, but have to come
back to it later! If it's a WMP file, I'd have to pretty much start over
again!

jaws settings or winamp settings that work best with jaws.

RE: windows media player or media center

2013-03-23 Thread Hamit Campos
They both work quite well. Now, if you are going to play a DVD with either
of them, you must use Narrator and shut JAWS off. This is because since JAWS
is using a mirror driver, it'll think you want to steal the content to put
it directly. So you must use //Narrator for DVD play back. That works well
though. Trust me, I've done it. Remember that with WMC you can turn your PC
into a TV. The set up I here you need sighted help for, but once that's all
done and over with, you can use it just fine. Note, you can do most of the
basic setup, the monitor, the speakers and stuff like that. I here it's the
signal set up that's hard. Oh yeah, setting up the times for it to down load
updates is kind of hard too. You can set up the internet signal, but you
aren't sure what you're doing. I just let it do what ever it wishes. I love
Windows Media Centere. I wnt to put a TV tooner
In my next PC and use it as a TV. But yeah, both WMC and WMP both work with
JAWS.

Did you play a CD before this and just alt F4 out of it? If so, next time
you play a CD, don't close WMP, but rather play an audio file be it an MP3
or what ever, and then you can close it and it will be fine. I've personally
had enough of WMP 12 doing this. WMP 13 had better behave it self or else.
WMP 11 didn't do this, I really don't get it. You must always remember this
for each time you play a CD. No closing WMP allowed righte after.

I know that NVDA doesn't use a mirror driver, and that's why I decided to
try it with the movie. I thought that Media Player would be happier with
that configuration. I do intend to try some other DVD players with that
particular movie and JAWS 13 since I want to use the OCR feature on the menu
titles. Maybe other players won't complain about the copy protection.

I got the usual message that a license was downloaded now and I could play

Since then for some strange reason I am also unable to play streamed content

Hi folks

Using jaws 13, windows 7 and windows media player 12.

For some reason Windows Media player does not now want to play any streams
from the internet.

This happened after I tried to play a protected file on it. This is a
ripped cd on my hard drive which was ripped in wma lossless in protected
mode by mistake.

I got the usual message that a license was downloaded now and I could play
the file. However, when I closed media player and tried to play the file it
froze. After a time a message appeared saying something like a server that
could not be found.

Since then for some strange reason I am also unable to play streamed content
on windows media player from the internet.

All unprotected content however works fine.

Any advice?

Andre

RE: Windows Media Player 11

2012-01-20 Thread Hamit Campos
This is very strange. I've ripped things in WAV, and it works just fine.
It's probably because of how it didn't complete the rip. I've seen this
happen with DVD Audio Ex
Tractor when you extract a DVD that's a bit damaged and it does kind of
extract the chapter I guess. But not really. It sounds like that's kind of
what happened here but it's hard to say why since you said that the CD is
fine, and it worked when you did it in WMA lausless. But yeah, I prefer PCM
WAV my self.

Hi.

WMP11 has six format settings for ripping CDs. I chose WAV (Lossless). WMP
took a long time to go through the ripping process, and in fact never
completed it, although all the tracks from the CD showed up in the
designated folder. When I attempted to play these tracks, MS responded with
a message to the effect that the player can't play either this CD or this
format.

However, when I put the same CD in just to play, not rip, WMP went right
ahead.

I changed the format to Windows Media Audio Lossless, and the player
smoothly ripped the files to the folder. When it was done, I could play the
tracks from that folder.

There is nothing wrong with this CD. If I just play it, WMP operates fine.
WMP can also rip and play its contents, albeit with my second choice of
format. What it can't do is play files in my preferred format, even though
it's one of the six ripping format options offered by the same WMP.

Any ideas?

I think they both take some getting used to, so I think it comes down to
what you're familiar with. I wouldn't pass judgment on anyone using
either media player myself.

Have you gone into your control panel to see if you can remove Windows
Media Player? Maybe after that, you could reinstall it from the MS
download page or MS Update.

BTW, the 69 exclamation points was really annoying. I'd suggest that you
avoid annoying people you're asking for help! :-)

That's pretty good trial and error, David.

The reason I'm sticking with WMP 10 is I find it easier to navigate with
Jaws. Oh, and I also think it sounds better than 11. But, that is a
subjective opinion based on hearing 11 on a friend's computer then roling it
back to 10. My friend also felt 11 didn't sound so good.

Thanks for your tips, David. I'll probably being using 12 when I get
Windows 7. Hope the interface isn't to messed up with Jaws.

Re: Windows Media Player

2010-03-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, I don't use vista, but google leads to
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-500 where it says:

The Folder Options window in Windows Vista is missing the File Types tab
found in earlier versions of Windows. So how do you edit file type
associations

in Windows Vista?

There are three ways:

Method #1 (on the fly):

1. Right-click a file of the type you want to change, and select
Properties.

2. In the General tab, click the Change button.
3. Choose a program from the list, or click Browse to select an .EXE
file on your hard disk.

Method #2 (view a list of file types):

1. Open Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel Home, click Programs, and then click Make a file
type always open in a specific program. Or, in the Classic View, open
Default Programs

and then click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.

3. Highlight a file type in the list and click Change Program.
list end

Unfortunately, neither method in Vista allows you to choose anything but
the default programs, such as the programs listed in your files' context
menus.

If you want complete control over your file types, use this tool:

Method #3 (File Type Doctor):

1. Download and install
Creative Element Power Tools.
2. Open the Creative Element Power Tools Control Panel.
3. Turn on the Edit file type associations option, and click Accept.
4. Right-click a file of the type you want to change, and select Edit
File Type to show this window:

File Type Doctor
5. Click Help if you need more information.

Since I'm not running Vista, I can't verify any of this. good luck!

But if you want it to always recognize that file type it is better to change
either in control pannel or in the options dialog of windows media player.

I would agree with Jim regarding going to file type which is one tabe over
from the filename box. Press the letter a for "any file" and shift tab
twice back to the list of files. They should be visible.

Not sure it'll do what you want, and not sure it's the same under Vista,
but you could try going to Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options and

RE: Windows media player 11 and jfw 11

2009-12-23 Thread David Bailes
Hi Jason,

It is weird. The shortcut for toggling the repeat mode is ctrl+t. Note that the
insert modifier in insert+ctrl+t is the "jaws key", which by default is insert
in the desktop keyboard layout. If you're using a different keyboard layout, or
have changed the Jaws key for that layout, then just use the appropriate jaws
key instead of the insert.

David.

When I hit control+insert+t it shuffles the repeat mode on and off. Very

I wish I knew a way to do this. I use WMP 10 all the time. I don't
understand why I can not even find the currently playing track title using
the Jaws cursor. I've made sure it is checked in the view menu but it
doesn't appear to be on the screen.

I use a clumsy work around. When a track is playing, go to the file menu
and choose properties. To find the title, you need to change tabs. Very
clumsy but it works. Maybe I could make a simple Jaws script to do this
easier.

Subject: Windows Media Player not recognizing various cd's

Hi folks,

I'm working with both Winamp and Windows Media Player, and though neither
program is perfect, I'm finding that Winamp seems to Excel a bit when it
comes to identifying compact discs inserted into the computer. Is this
based upon the databases accessed by the two applications? Is there a way
to enhance Windows Media to be more productive in this regard? I use WMP
to rip discs, and would like it to automatically identify the artist/title
being ripped. On perhaps a dozen occasions over the past week, Winamp
correctly labels the album, but WMP cannot do so. I have WMP set to go
on-line and retrieve additional details. Are there other settings I can
tweak for closer to ideal results?

Scott

2009-10-31 Thread Janelle Vacanti
Go to the file you want to open. Go to the context menu either by pressing the
right mouse button or pressing the applications key. Select the open with
submenu. Go to the choose program option. Make sure the checkbox that says
always use the selected program to open this kind of file is checked. Once
you've found Windows Media Player in the programs list, press the OK button.

Windows Media Player 9 is a bit old now so it might be hard to find a

Re: Windows media player 10 info needed

2008-09-09 Thread Bobcat
There are several ways to create a play list in WMP10. The easiest is to
start by locating the files in Windows. Move to the first file you want to
have in your play list and right click or press the applications key. You
will find a menu that should have "Add to Now Playing List". Click this and
WMP will start up with that song. You can add more songs by going back to
the folder, selecting more songs and using the context key again.

Now in WMP, you want to find the now playing list. You can tab around till
it shows up but if you have Jaws; ctrl+alt+l should focus the list. If you
don't find the Now Playing list, use the view menu, Go To, Now Playing.

When the list is focused, use arrow keys to focus individual items. Use the
context menu key to bring up a menu for each item including moving up and
down in the list.

Once you have your songs in the right order, use the File Menu, Save Now
Playing List as option to save your play list. Note: you could have started
with a blank Now Playing list which is also in the file menu before doing
anything else to save time.

Hope this helps.

Bob

let me add a note, be careful not to install the urge program, if it installs
with
media player 11, uninstall it right away because if you plug in flash drives,
it
will make directories on them and once unplugged, you'll have window pop up all
the time about urge installer which is annoying.

HiJames,
her phone uses mini compact flash memory that goes into a slot on the phone.
she was told when she purchased it, in order to utilize the WMP feature, she
must first add the memory, which would also allow for accessing other
possible features of the phone. It's probably made by one of the phone
manufacturers, but it has T Mobile's name listed and only operated via T
Mobile. I don't know much about her phone, but it pretty much feels just

Hello Cornell!

The Cingular 8525 does have a memory card slot for more storage, but I am
not sure how, or if, one could add memory to the phone. That's probably
something one would have to take into a shop for I suppose, but I don't
know. How does your wife add memory to her T-Mobile Phone? It it a
software thing or must one insert memory (RAM) sticks? My Windows Media
does play some things (movie clips and songs from stuff from the mobile
phone system), but nothing I generate, like my web site stuff or radio
stations (including ACB Radio). During a demo of this phone on a blog and
Code Factory, the structor played something from a radio station and an MP3,
but he didn't mention anything about memory. Maybe you ca n shed some light
on this issue for me. I am not that familiar with memory adding on a PDA,
but would like to learn about it.

thanks very much for your assistance and info.

2007-07-18 Thread Cornell Ligon
Hi James,
My wife also has a PDA/phone, but a different model via T-Mobile. With her
model, before using WMP she must load more memory for it to operate.
Is that a possibility with your Singular model? Just a thought...

Cornell

Hello List!

I have a Cingular (ATT) 8525 PDA, running Mobile Speak Pocket and Windows
Mobile 5 OS. I have tried to play radio stations and other media on my
mobile phone, but never get pass the page loading stage. Now, do I have to
do anything to Window Media Player to work when I click on a station or
file? I even copied an MP3 to a flash drive, put it in my pda, and tried to
play it. Nothing happened. What shall I do.

Re: Windows Media Player 10, Unavailable Functions

2007-06-12 Thread David Bailes
Hi,

the closest thing that WMP has for rewinding audio is
to use the seek slider. The keyboard navigation for
this is to press ctrl + tab once of twice to move to
the slider, then use left or right arrows to seek
backwards or forwards by one twentieth of the length
of the track.

David Bailes.

HI.

Would anyone know why my copy of Windows Media Player
10 consistently
indicates that both file markers and rewind are
unavailable? Fast forward
is available, and I can use RealPlayer's equivalent of
file markers, except
I've stopped using RealPlayer. Not only are these two
functions shown as
unavailable, I've tried them, only to confirm they
aren't.

Any idea how I can make them available?

Thanks.

Re: Windows Media Player 10, Unavailable Functions

2007-06-11 Thread Cornell Ligon

Hi Adrian,
You may want to tinker around with it, such as opening the player from the
desktop, then playing the file and see if the rwind feature works that way.
I used it earlier by simply selecting a track from the “My Music” folder,
and I was able to rewind that way. I’m not sure about bookmarks, because
I’ve never used them.

BTW: do you know how to select a track for ripping, burning or sync? I’ve
tried that using the space bar as well as the enter key and it still says
‘unselected’ when moving cursor through tracks…

Best Regards,
Cornell

Thanks, Cornell. But I'm surprised no one who plays audio books and lectures
hasn't encountered this failure of WMP 10 to rewind with JAWS. I also wonder
if anyone else has been able to use WMP 10's bookmarks feature, which JAWS
also indicates is unavailable on my system.

Mine have always said the same, even in version 11. I'm not sure if that's a
JFW, screenreader or Media Player issue. However, depending on how I access
the player, I can use the back feature. I can't remember if accessing it
from the desktop or merely playing files directly from the 'My Music'
folder, as to opening the plaer and accessing from a playlist or the
library...

Hi Cornell,
I have seen where there are a lot of items left over, for example if you
remove a printer program, sometimes there is still some of that program left
over, I have gone through my reg, and cleaned out some stuff with the help
of a friend who build computers or have gone through my computer and cleaned
out some stuff from there, appreciate the tips. Dave Hutchins

Hi Dave,
NO, I've never had that problem and I upgraded to WMP 11 when it came out.
The only problem I've had was not getting the album information awhile ago
and now on a newer cd it's doing the same. However, when I ripped that same
cd using Real Plaer, it ripped and obtained the album information, but
missing two tracks. Using WMP, it ripped all the tracks, but they were all
unlabled.
Go figure!

You might want to try restoring the original settings to default, remove it
all together and reinstall or upgrading to 11.
I wish I had better info...

Best Regards,
Cornell

RE: Windows Media Player 10, Unavailable Functions

2007-06-10 Thread Cornell Ligon
Mine have always said the same, even in version 11. I'm not sure if that's a
JFW, screenreader or Media Player issue. However, depending on how I access
the player, I can use the back feature. I can't remember if accessing it
from the desktop or merely playing files directly from the 'My Music'
folder, as to opening the plaer and accessing from a playlist or the
library...

Best Regards,
Cornell

HI.

Would anyone know why my copy of Windows Media Player 10 consistently
indicates that both file markers and rewind are unavailable? Fast forward
is available, and I can use RealPlayer's equivalent of file markers, except
I've stopped using RealPlayer. Not only are these two functions shown as
unavailable, I've tried them, only to confirm they aren't.

Any idea how I can make them available?

Thanks.

The only improvement I've found with WMP 11 over 10 is that SRS Wow doesn't

Hi everyone. I've noticed that a few people on this list have reverted
to Windows Media 10 after switching to Windows Media 11. So I'm wondering...
does anyone out there see an advantage to Windows Media 11? If so, what is
it? Is its sound improved? Does 11 do anything that 10 can't do? Just
wondering because I've heard very few positives so far.

Thanks.
