I never heard of this file extension before, but my first hit on google.com
lead me to http://filext.com/file-extension/3GP, where it said:

3GPP and 3GPP2 are the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery
and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless
networks.
Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide
uniform delivery
of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd
generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices.
3GPP and
3GPP2 are based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's
QuickTime. QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the 3GPP
and 3GPP2

specifications. The Macintosh type is: 3GPP

So obviously, quicktime will play 3GP files. A little bit of checking
revealed that quite a few of the audio/video converters will handle 3GP
files including Switch and Replay Converter, the two that I'm familiar
with.

So since this is the new standard conversions, is the mp3 file still going
to be used widely for a file extension, or is it going to go away. what
does the 3gp stand for? Also is this 3gp just used for apple players or mac
computers? and how rich does it sound. Does it sound better than an mp3 or
does the sound quality sound the same?

RE: I need some help please!

2009-01-29 Thread Jim
Hi there,

OK. I got the Replay av program and have successfully installed and
registered it. However, I'm so lost that I have no idea what to do, and I'm
trying to look at some of those tutorials.
Here's the goal, and the simpler answers I get, the better.
I need to record two shows. The first is tomorrow, from 12:00-3:00 from
www.kbcs.fm

The second is Friday, from 12:00-2:00 from
www.kboo.fm

I tried adding both of these stations, but it's saying that these stations
are shows.
What do I need to do to add these stations and make sure they're scheduled
to record?
Again, I don't mind detail as long as it doesn't get to where I can't
understand it or it's too technical.

Thanks!

Jim

Re: 3gp

2009-01-29 Thread Christopher Chaltain

I can't answer most of your questions, but here are my thoughts.

First, I consider phrases like world wide standard to be more of a
marketing statement than anything else. Next, MP3 has been superseded by
several superior specifications in the past, and it's still around, so I
don't expect it to go away any time soon. The 3G in 3GP seems like it
would stand for 3rd Generation as in the 3G high speed mobile network.
I'm guessing 3GP stands for 3rd Generation Partnership Project.
Quicktime runs on Windows and the conversion utilities I mentioned run
on Windows, so I don't think it's a Mac only specification. Furthermore,
it was intended for mobile devices. Finally, I can't speak to the sound
quality, but since it's intended for mobile devices and to be
transmitted over 3G networks, I'm guessing there's some trade off
between size and sound quality.

I've used Platinum, and now I'm using pro, which is suppose to be 50 time

RE: I need some help please!

2009-01-29 Thread dean martineau
There is doubtless another way, but here is what I would do:

1. Add the two stations. From the shows menu, chose add station,
Then enter the call letters into the dialog. Both stations are in the Media
Guide, so it will be easy to add them. Hit the Add Station link.

2. For each station, go into Properties using the application key, and copy
the Url for the station.

3. From theShows menu, choose Add show manually. Put in the name, which at
least in one case I believe to be Lunch With Folks. Paste in the Url you
copied. Make sure you're set to capture a stream. Scheduling is tricky but
it can be done.

.3gp is the standard use by the NLS to record talking books and
magazines. It is also used by the Victor Stream Reader to record your
own personal notes. If you have the Victor Stream it comes with a CD
containing companion software that will convert .3pg files into .wav and
from there you can play them or convert them to .mp3 or .ogg etc.

finding recording software, was Re: I need some help please!

2009-01-29 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. I've changed
the subject line to better reflect the question. You absolutely
can't go wrong with Replay A/V from Applian.

the software is very speech friendly and the company is very aware of
the fact that a lot of the users of the software are blind. It costs
a bit but is very well worth your investment.

http://www.replayav.com
is where to grab it. You can try it out as a demo that'll record
something for about 5 minutes. If you like it, you can buy it online
and you'll be able to record your show and save it in mp3 or whatever
format you choose. Awesome program!

.3gp is the standard use by the NLS to record talking books and magazines.
It is also used by the Victor Stream Reader to record your own personal
notes. If you have the Victor Stream it comes with a CD containing
companion software that will convert .3pg files into .wav and from there you
can play them or convert them to .mp3 or .ogg etc.

I would use your xp system. The two leading programs for recording streams
are Replay a/v and Total Recorder. Both are good. I have always preferred
Total Recorder. You can download a demo of Replay a/v to try it out,
And there are audio tutorials for JAWS users at

http://www.applian.com/support-blind.php

As for Total Recorder, subscribers to the $9 Sound Computing package have
access to several audio tutorials that I created.

To modify what I wrote above, if you use Vista, you definitely want to use
Replay A/V, and it doesn't work any better with Xp than it does with Vista.
Total Recorder is easier to use with Xp.

Re: need help with rar files.

2009-01-29 Thread Richard Claypool
rar files are not an audio type. ther'es a good tutorial on google if you'd
like it to help you learn how to use google. It's a very powerful search
engine that will help you find answers more quickly and easily. Infact,
it's so well-known now that it's become a verb in the english language.

so, if you visit
www.google.com
and type in rar wikipedia
you'll see the following
RAR Filename extension .rar, .rev, formerly .r00, .r01, etc.
 Internet media type application/x-rar-compressed
application/octet-stream

 Developed by Eugene Roshal
 Type of format Archive format

In computing, RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data
compression, error recovery, and file spanning.[1] It was developed by a
Russian software engineer,

so, it's like zip. the latest versions of winzip handle rar, seven zip,
from what I can tell, has ishues with unrarring multi-part archives.

Re: Batch Conversion With Sound Taxi

2009-01-29 Thread graham stoodley
Arthur, I also have the pro version of Sound Taxi, and as far as I can
tell, the only extra conversion speed you get is if you are converting
more than one file at a time. Converting more than one file
simultaneously does seem to be slightly faster than would be
converting them serially one after the other. So, in converting a
single file, the Pro version won't perform faster than the Platinum
version. The claim for faster conversion on the Sound Taxi web site
does not go out of its way to make this distinction clear, as I
learned after I bought the Pro version.

Finally, I can't speak to the sound
quality, but since it's intended for mobile devices and to be
transmitted over 3G networks, I'm guessing there's some trade off
between size and sound quality.

jason wrote:
So since this is the new standard conversions, is the mp3 file still
going to be used widely for a file extension, or is it going to go
away. what does the 3gp stand for? Also is this 3gp just used for
apple players or mac computers? and how rich does it sound. Does it
sound better than an mp3 or does the sound quality sound the same?

I never heard of this file extension before, but my first hit on
google.com lead me to http://filext.com/file-extension/3GP, where it
said:

3GPP and 3GPP2 are the new worldwide standards for the creation,
delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed
wireless networks.
Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide
uniform delivery
of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd
generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless
devices. 3GPP and
3GPP2 are based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's
QuickTime. QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the
3GPP and 3GPP2

specifications. The Macintosh type is: 3GPP

So obviously, quicktime will play 3GP files. A little bit of checking
revealed that quite a few of the audio/video converters will handle
3GP files including Switch and Replay Converter, the two that I'm
familiar with.

.3gp is the standard use by the NLS to record talking books and magazines.
It is also used by the Victor Stream Reader to record your own personal
notes. If you have the Victor Stream it comes with a CD containing
companion software that will convert .3pg files into .wav and from there
you can play them or convert them to .mp3 or .ogg etc.

Replay AV response for Vinny

2009-01-29 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos
Vinny
There are quite a few users who use Window-Eyes with Replay AV 8. I tested this
also. I strongly reccomend you listen to the tutorials first, join the mailing
list and asks questions on this list. There is also a $15 off the price of
Replay AV 8. Tips are mentioned in the tutorials but here are some. When you
install Replay AV 8 it will install 4 components: codecs, replay AV, replay
Converter and more. Install everything and be patient. Let your screen reader
speak completely and do not rush. When you are on main interface of Replay AV 8
you use your spacebar key to activate the buttons. Do not use your enter key.
You need to spend time to learn the properties dialog box and its associated
tabs: basic, recording, schedule, output and the others but its accessible for
sure once you learn. As you get more experienced listen to the URL Finder
tutorial as this tool will become very valuable for you. This tool is found in
the tools menu bar. Important note
since you use Window-Eyes. Do not use the alt keyboard key to access the menus
but use alt+f for file emu, alt+s for shows, alt+r for record, alt+t for tools,
alt+h for help menu. You may also see double entries within each menu pulldown.
This does not happen when using JAWS at all. The default output recording
folder where one's recordings go is actually in 'my documents' and I think I
say its in another folder in the tutorials. All this can be changed if needed.

Hi,
Does Replay radio work with window-eyes, and can you use the tutorials if
you don't use jaws?

Live 365 broadcasting question

2009-01-29 Thread Larry Naessens
Hello. When broadcasting on Live 365 is it required to use their software.
If so, does it work with screen readers? If not, what else can I use? In
short, from start to finish, what should I use in order to broadcast
successfully on Live 365?

That's my choice because they pay expenses related to the Riaa etc and
that's the way I prefer it.

Thanks.

Larry

quite clear, except a bit of static background.
so, how to get the sound without static or background noize.
got the boost lelvels levels to 100%
soif any one is experienced in setting real tech audio sound manager, in
sounds in windows vista. let me know.
now, the only other trouble, is getting my web cam to work, now, wondering,
if there is a usb controller driver on the toshiba website.
cheers Marvin.
