Re: Talks question
Off topic, I know, but can anyone tell me where to get the tbi driver that will make a braille display work with a Nokia N82 phone running talks? My Humanware manual says it's on their site, but it does not seem to be and then Humanware tech support says it's on the Talks site, which also seems to elude me. I'd appreciate greatly any help someone wanted to offer. I guess the reason I thought this was that Talks seemed, when I compared the functions to Mobile Speaks, to be very sluggish. Also there didn't seem to be the same application access. I used Talks 2 different times for about 15 days each. And again it may be how each software package was written, and the platform they are written for. I have found out recently that ATT is selling Mobile Speaks for the $89.00 that you mentioned. What are you comparing it to? I believe it's the only Talks sold for the Windows Mobile platform, so I think it is the fully working version. Just as Code Factory has different products for the Symbian, Windows Mobile and Pocket PC platforms, Nuance has different products for the Symbian and now Windows Mobile platform. I think people need to be careful when talking about Talks that they're clear to specify the Symbian versus Windows Mobile version. I'm also not sure why you're saying Verizon is getting away with anything selling Talks for $99. ATT sells Mobile Speak for $89, and I think that's the same product you'd get from Code Factory for quite a bit more. I suspect the price is more the result of a deal made between Nuance and Verizon or ATT and code Factory than it is the fact that a stripped down version of the screen reader is being sold. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Martin, Tim A., NMDOT Sent: Thursday, August 27, 2009 12:48 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: RE: Talks question Hi Lauren, I think the version of Talks Verizon sells for the $99.00 would work for most functions, but it is not the full working version. That is probably why they get away with selling it for the price they do. Mobile Speaks does not work at this time for the Black Berry phones, but it does work quite well with the Ozone, that is the phone I have. You might talk to Verizon and they may let you have the good price on the Ozone, I believe it was $49.00 with a 2 year contract. If you can afford it, I would get the Ozone without speech, and then you can purchase Mobile Speaks. I realize it is pricy, but you can transfer the software to other Smart phones in the future should you decide at some point to get another phone. Of course, you can only run the software on 1 phone at a time, but when you need to, the transfer is quite simple. Also, you get a fully functional 30-day trial before you have to purchase, which allows you some time to acquire the funds. The company that I purchased my Mobile Speaks from has a 6 or 12 month purchase plan. They do charge a small fee for this, but it makes things a little easier if you can't get the money at once. You are able to access the Internet fine from this phone. You do however, need to have good cell service in the area in which you live. You can set the phone up to retrieve your Internet E-mail, and it is not difficult to read texts or E-mails. Here's a summary of the accessibility features and functions found on the new Ipod Touch as taken from the Apple Web Site. Vision iPod touch includes a screen reader and other innovative accessibility features that make it easier to use for those with impaired vision. VoiceOver The same VoiceOver screen reader made popular on the Mac and the iPhone is now a standard feature on iPod touch (3rd generation). It’s the world’s first gesture-based screen reader, enabling you to enjoy the fun and simplicity of iPod touch even if you can’t see the screen. What makes VoiceOver on iPod touch remarkable is that you control it using simple gestures that let you physically interact with items on the screen. It’s easy to learn and fun to use. Instead of memorizing hundreds of keyboard commands or endlessly pressing tiny arrow keys to find what you’re looking for, with VoiceOver you simply touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then gesture with a double-tap, drag, or flick. VoiceOver delivers an experience unlike any screen reader you’ve used before. Traditional screen readers describe individual elements on the screen, but struggle to communicate where each element is located or provide information about adjoining objects. This contextual information is very important but typically filtered out by other screen readers. For example, “off-screen” models used by traditional screen readers to represent applications and web pages intentionally strip away contextual information and describe web pages as a list or menu of items. But with VoiceOver on iPod touch, you’ll experience something entirely new. Because VoiceOver works with the touchscreen, you interact directly with objects on the screen and can understand their location and context. So, when you touch the upper-left corner of the screen, you’ll hear what’s in the upper-left corner of a web page, and as you drag your finger around the screen, you’ll learn what’s nearby, providing an amazing new sense of context and relationships between the items you hear. For many, VoiceOver on iPod touch will provide, perhaps for the first time, a true sense of not only how things appear on the screen, but also descriptions of what they are. You’ll hear descriptions of every item, including status information such as battery level, Wi-Fi signal levels, and time of day. iPod touch even lets you know when the display changes to landscape or portrait, and when the screen is locked or unlocked. The speaking rate is adjustable so you can set it to a speed that best suits your listening ability. VoiceOver uses distinctive sound effects to alert you when an application opens, when the screen is updated, when a message dialog appears, and more. And when VoiceOver is talking, the volume of background sounds and music is automatically lowered, “ducking” under the voice, so you can clearly hear what VoiceOver is telling you. It Speaks Your Language VoiceOver includes built-in voices that speak over 21 languages including Bahasa Indonesian, Chinese (Cantonese), Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan), Dutch, English (U.S.), English (UK), English (Australian), Finnish, French (Canada), French (France), German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Thai, and Turkish. Getting Started VoiceOver is built into iPod touch (3rd generation). There’s nothing extra to purchase or install. All you need is iPod touch, iTunes 9 or later, and a Mac or PC. You can activate your iPod touch and enable VoiceOver without sighted assistance using iTunes with a compatible screen reader like VoiceOver (included in Mac OS X) or GW-Micro Window- Eyes for Windows XP and Windows Vista (sold separately). When you activate iPod touch using iTunes, you can enable VoiceOver to start using it right away. Or a sighted user can enable VoiceOver for you directly on iPod touch using

It really isn't all that difficult once you figure it out, but you do not get much help from the manual. I just had to spend hours in trial and error. So, I'll see if I can make time at some point. If you're on skype, perhaps we can talk this through at a time that works for us. Thanks for your words of thanks. Neal -Original Message- From: Donald L. For some reason, I am having difficulty grasping the concepts in the BWP docs, primarily because the docs try to make a one size fits all approach. I think that recording from existing audio files should not be combined with the instructions pertaining to microphone recording. I would appreciate your thoughts on this subject. Thanks for all of your contributions in the past. Winamp library doesn't work
I have reinstalled Winamp a couple of times. I have the latest version. I have added my music folder with all of the subfolders to the library. I've done this many times because it doesn't seem to be adding it. I even tried to do it by importing it from the ITunes database. When I open the library, it says that local media is open and then instead of audio, it goes right to video files. There are never any audio or video files. Can anyone help? Re: total recorder
I have a new set of Bose USB speakers and since hooking them up, I can no longer record from the Internet with TR. It says there is no sound detected. I have done everything according to the knowledge that I have, but I can't get it to work. It was doing fine and plugging in the USB speakers is the only change. I still have it set to record through Total recorder and it says plabyack through Bose and I can't seem to change that to TR as well. Does anyone understand this? Does anyone have an idea? Total Recorder Issue
I hope someone can help me. I have Total Recorder V7 Pro. I was recording without issue when using my onboard sound card, however I purchased a pair of Bose USB speakers and now I can't record anything ever. I want to record from the Internet, so I am using the Software setting. It always says there's never any sound source. Is there a way to do this without disabling my USB speakers and all that hassle? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious or, I hope I am. I feel ignorant. Otherwise it is fully functional and does not expire in any way. I would like something that would let me name each video and then, when I have them on my computer, I would be able to browse the list of titles and mearly click on one, to have it start playing. I wish Windows Media center would let me do this, because I really like the way it easly lets me record and then find the show I want to play. However, it will only let me have one input and it expects that to be from my cable. Any ideas or input will be gratefully accepted! Many thanks! Vicky. I've tried it with both drivers, to no avail. Kristeen On Jan 31, 2012, at 12:11 PM, chris hallsworth wrote: What virtual driver are you using in software mode? With the user mode virtual driver, an application that transmits audio should be running and playing first before the driver can capture the sound. If you are using the kernel mode virtual driver then it should just work. Christopher H On 31/01/2012 16:22, Kristeen Hughes wrote: I hope someone can help me. I have Total Recorder V7 Pro.
