You could try setting the output sampling rate to 48000 as suggested

i am not a mac user myself, but a student mate of mine had a similar
problem with any version of pd (we tried about 4 different versions).
However, we couldn't find any setting to avoid these glitches (these
glitches have been also very regular, like: 'zlic - zlic-zlic',
like in your case). even setting the samplerate to 48000Hz didn't help,
though that was mentioned in some mails before. also on her computer
other applications ran fine, only pd was causing trouble. then we tried
to run pd over jack and all troubles are gone. there is even a
precompiled osx-binary of jack and an appropriate gui available, which
makes the installing very easy: http://www.jackosx.com/

Re: [PD] Glitches during audio test on Mac OS X (newbie)

2007-01-18 Thread Derek Holzer
I am using PD on OSX, and I use JackOSX for anything that requires
reliability. So try that, or try setting the delay in the Audio
Settings dialog to a larger number. This increases the latency, and
should lessen the chance of dropouts. I think the problem is that PD
doesn't use the native OSX Core Audio drivers, but rather a set of
Portaudio drivers. I've had less than ideal luck using Portaudio on OSX
for anything, so my inclination is to see the problem there.

best,

Ok, thats the goal. There is a thread from 29th of auust last year
about this. To sum it up:

I might be wrong in calling a set of object for a lib, when they (the
objects) are build into separate files. I don't know, the terminology
is slightly confusing due to inconsistent use.

You are right that to load the max file one are to crate an [cyclone]
object, click on it, and follow the instructions (or something). But
to do that, one need cyclone to be build into one file,
cyclone.pd_darwin (in this case), instead of into separate files, as
it is currently done with Pd-extended.

To quote Hans C. S. from the mentioned thread: Sounds like the
single-file-multi-class cyclone.pd_linux should be included in Pd-
extended if there really is some specific functionality that is only
available in that format. Its just a matter of someone doing the
work. Any volunteers?

I think so, yes, since i think it highly unlikely that it should have
been renamed. Also the Makefile doesn't mention that it is. I could

[PD] polypoly's second inlet

2007-01-18 Thread Phil Stone

Hello listers (and Frank B. in particular),

I've been converting a PD synth I've been using from an [nqpoly] voice
manager to Frank's new [polypoly]. Mostly, it's working well for me,
but one thing about it seems less than optimal, and I wonder if it is
intentional.

The first inlet sends its {note, amp} pairs to one and only one instance
of the polypoly'd abstraction. The second inlet broadcasts its message
to *all* instances (see attached patch for simple illustration).

I can see reasons for wanting it to work that way, so if it was
intentional, so be it. It would work much better for my selfish
purposes -- I like to send a big list of parameters to the voice that's
about to be fired off -- if it only connected to the same instance that
the first inlet connects to.

(As an aside, it occurs to me that [polypoly] would be much more
generalizable if the first inlet could send a list *of any size* to the
poly-allocated abstraction, instead of a hardwired {note, amp} pair.
Then I would be happy to see the second inlet be global, because I
wouldn't need it anymore. I'd just send a big list, including note and
amplitude as well as all my other parameters, to the first inlet. The
drawback is that this would require a custom version of [poly], since
[poly] assumes {note, amp} pairs.)

I get lost in the auto-creates and auto-connects in [polypoly]'s
innards, so I can't figure out how to play with this. I'm awfully
grateful for this powerful object, though. If I can get it working, my
synthesizer patch will work great for process music (which is all nqpoly
can really do), *and* live playing. Thanks, Frank.

You could use a little trick by connecting the second inlet to the
right inlet of a [list] object inside your wrapper to store, but not
activate new settings on a per note level. Then bang the left inlet of
this [list] with the noteon-message coming in to the left inlet of
your wrapper with a [t a b] or something like that.

(As an aside, it occurs to me that [polypoly] would be much more
generalizable if the first inlet could send a list *of any size* to the
 poly-allocated abstraction, instead of a hardwired {note, amp} pair.

Actually this is a limitation of [poly], and [polypoly] really was
made to be a handy wrapper around [poly] that mimicks most of its
functionality and can alsmost be used as a drop-in replacement without
having to refer to the help patch again. It may be nice if [poly]
would support note amp foo bar etc. lists.

Maybe you will be happier with using [ngpoly4] directly?

[PD] sflist equivalent?

2007-01-18 Thread Stephen Sinclair

Hello,

A friend just asked me if there is an object in Pd that is similar to
sflist in Max/MSP. I havent' used this myself, but he says it
basically pre-loads wav files in a playlist, so that there is no
waiting time between successive samples.

If not, it shouldn't be too hard to do in an abstraction, I would guess...

But, just wondering if anyone knows of something like this.

Thanks,
