Yosemite fail: It keeps opening iPhoto
Several people said that they had been using Yosemite for quite some time, that it worked quite well, and the new version of safari is wonderfully fast. Yes, the new version of safari, is nicely peppy. I'm fine with the simpler pictograms, and in general I haven't had much problems with Yosemite. However, one thing that is incredibly annoying is that every time I insert an SD card to load photos into Lightroom, it automatically opens iPhoto. I did some research and it said that under iPhoto preferences, set the action on when camera is connected to Open no application. Of course, iPhoto would not even open to allow me to do this, until I updated my iPhoto library to the new version. Bitch, moan, gripe. I downloaded, upgraded, found that it was already set. Then the next time I inserted an SD card, boom! iPhoto opens up again. How do I disable this annoying behavior. Even if iPhoto were not possibly the worst program that I've ever had the misfortune of using, I still don't want it to automatically open. Re: Yosemite fail: It keeps opening iPhoto
It doesn't do it on mine. I don't recall changing any settings either. I do have a third party image viewer (Xee3) set as my default viewer so that might be something to do with it? Incidentally, Xee3 only kicks in when I start browsing the files and not before. Film-eating bacteria make art
Neil Montanus is an 87-year-old photographer who spent decades shooting for Kodak. In the course of his job he did travel photography all over the world and shots portraits of people like Walt Disney and Gerald Ford. A couple of years ago he found a carousel of slides he'd stored in a damp corner of his basement and forgotten for decades. Bacteria had eaten into the gelatine emulsion on the slides. Perhaps Neil did some of the brown acid in the 60's, but he decided he liked the effect: http://www.montanusphotography.com/neil_montanus_bio/latestwork.htm -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Yes, I obviously know that, Boris. It was mostly a humorous comment, about the difference that 1 or 2 mm on the wide side can make. I was really wondering about the difference in lens quality, if any, rather than the distance in range. Re: Yosemite fail: It keeps opening iPhoto
It's a bug, obviously. Be sure iPhoto 9.6 is installed. Unset the option (pick some other behavior) then set it again. Do the same in Image Capture. Mine did this the first time I inserted a card, and hasn't since. G On Oct 30, 2014, at 12:21 AM, Larry Colen l...@red4est.com wrote: Several people said that they had been using Yosemite for quite some time, that it worked quite well, and the new version of safari is wonderfully fast. Re: HD Pentax DA 16-85mm f3.5-5.6 ED DC WR
My only comment is that Ricoh Pentax is now producing 7 zooms in the normal / long normal zoom range: 16 -85 f3.5-5.6 16-45 f4 16-50 f2.8 17-70 f4 18 - 55 f3.5-5.6 18 - 55 II f3.5-5.6 18-135 f3.5-5.6 Obviously there are differences in focal length, features, etc. The 16-50 f2.8 really is in its own category and there is clearly a significant difference in zoom range from the shortest (16-45) to the longest (18-135). But - the line up also seems to be somewhat redundant and I for one would like to see new products that help diversify offerings. Mark On 10/30/2014 9:33 AM, Daniel J. Any comments on Sigma 10-20 f3.5 or Pentax 15mm?
I am trying to put together a lightweight kit for travel. Looking at web reviews, I'm inclined to think the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 is a lens I want. However, the Pentax 15mm is considerably lighter and reportedly very good. i am looking for comments on those two lenses or on alternatives. Background, for anyone who cares: My current walking around combo is A 50 1.4 on K-X. That is likely to get upgraded to DA 50 1.8 on K-3; Adorama have a bundle that includes both and I'll buy it unless they cancel before next week when I'm expecting funds. That is my favorite focal length, all I need for most street shooting. I need a wider lens for landscapes and architecture including interior shots. I have the 16-45 f4 which goes more-or-less wide enough, but it is heavy and not all that wide, so I will likely leave it with my daughter who also shoots Pentax. I also have the A 28 2.8 but it is not wide enough to be the main lens for this and is not autofocus; I'll bring it since it is light but will probably not use it much. The Pentax 21 f3.2 limited looks good but may not be wide enough. Tokina 11-16 f.2.8 does not seem to be available for Pentax. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Jack, This is a very interesting image that made me wanting to go to that area again. As Ken wrote, either a polairizer or some post-processing (presence and/or selective sharpening in LR or unsharp mask in PS, possibly combined with selective (for the blue color) contrast enhancement)) would help removing some haze from the back. That would make this image even stronger. On another hand, I suspect it might then look _differently_.
