Ann is in a Blue state. I recall that you are in a Red state. If so, that might
explain the difference in speed of payments.

Actually, I'm in what is considered a "purple" state - half red, half blue.

I think it's more likely because I *DID* have to file a tax return last year, so
my interaction with the IRS (which is where they appear to have gotten their
direct deposit info) was more recent than Ann's.

Actually, it’s a matter of whether you filed an income tax return or not. Those
who filed a return electronically or had their refund sent directly to their
bank got their checks right away. Social Security recipients who weren’t
required to file a return were next. I’m in a blue state where “that woman” is
governor, and I got my funds quite a while ago.

I asked on another forum how he was going to "sign" a direct deposit & got

All the right-wingnuts accused me of being a commie-libtard and all the

I've been using direct deposit since 1978. I have a pretty good idea how it
works, and although I haven't seen an actual "government check" in ages I've got
a pretty good idea how those work too.

Re: Last Call - May PUG

2020-04-30 Thread Stanley Halpin
I am not sure if you are asking a philosophical question or a question about
definitions… I’ll go with a definition.

Without going to a dictionary, I would define an alley (or alleyway) as a
narrow connecting passage. Not usually intended for modern vehicles. So, a
passageway between two streets or from a street to a courtyard, often giving
access to residences, to the rear of businesses, etc. In some U.S. cities,
houses front on the streets (usually with some front lawn area), and the back
of the property abuts a shared alleyway which provides access to the parking
area or garages behind the homes.

A couple of examples which I think might have fit this category {these from Old
City Jerusalem}

PESO, maybe hound's tongue

2020-04-30 Thread Larry Colen
A friend potentially identified some very similar flowers from a couple weeks
ago as Hound's Tongue (Cynoglossum grande). I took a few of some in my yard
this afternoon:

for reference, the flowers from two weeks ago

While I was photographing them, I noticed a spider so I got some photos of both
of them in the rest of the album.

Re: OT GESO - Lockdown Walkabout

Brian, nice series. I'm fascinated by the rusty mailboxes and wonder
whether these are still in use.

Perhaps "mailbox" as a theme for next year PUG?

G'day all

Lockdown here is lasting for another 3-4 weeks at least but, if we have to
self-isolate, there would be a lot worse places than our little rural area in
the far western area of Sydney.

Most days we go for a short walk up our quiet street - we've been coming across
neighbours we haven't talked to in decades!

Here's just a few photos taken on our walks. These were all taken with my Oly
OMDs. Sadly my Pentax gear doesn't see much action these days - if only that
K-01 had come with a built in viewfinder, things might have been different :-(.

Nice one.

You all seem to have much more interesting neighbourhoods.

What would Eggleston say?

I like the photo but the rendering needs a bit more snap really, it’s a bit
flat.
