Re: Giving up on Pentax (probably)
I have tested this on my own K-7 and DA*16-50. I wanted to find out if this is a good solution for me and I did the test before the warranty went out. I found it to be perfectly good. It focuses just as fast as SDM, but with more noise of course. So I decided to not send my lens in and complain about slow SDM after all. Yes, both Pentax F*250-600/5.6 and FA*250-600/5.6 are f/5.6 across the range and with autofocus. I won an F*250-600/5.6 action on ebay last month, but haven't used until today. The reason is that the lens was without the tripod mount and it is not very usable without. As this was the first time for me on a soccer match with camera, I suppose I did most of it wrong, but I had a few usable pictures. The lens is unbelievable sharp. At 300mm it is difficult to see any difference between this wide open and DA*300/4 stopped down to f/5.6. Yes, there are spf records on heime.org and I have recently added include:pdml.net. But shouldn't pdml rewrite the sender address instead? Bad news: it's not just Gmail doing this to your messages. Yahoo! Mail is trashing your messages such that they don't even go into the spam folder. I've been receiving PDML mail into an otherwise unused Yahoo mail account for some months now to diagnose mail problems back in the summer. I just left it running because ... it's free. :-) I just logged in there and searched for your name. Messages from you no longer appear there after November 11. The last one in the archive is RE: Pixel-peeping madness. Message-ID: BA5B58E4B469CD4F863DBA00A5A5515D14FD7F32@SERVER6.Heime.local Something has changed (SPF records?) since around that time. I checked for blacklist entries against your mail server (gandi1.heime.org [92.243.9.226]) but found nothing. http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx If you are having trouble getting responses out of anyone, I think I know why. :) You might want to setup an alternate mail address for a while to diagnose this thing. By the way, although the PDML list server is forwarding your email, anti-spam algorithms go deeper into all the headers, the originating sender, and the message body. Spammers often try to launder their messages through intermediaries so anti-spam filters are wise to that. The problem is that gmail believe the e-mails are coming from heime.org instead of pdml.net. And gmail is checking the SPF record on heime.org instead of the SPF record at pdml.net. Re: DA 35/2.8 macro vs. FA 35/2 or DA/2.4
I cannot compare DA35/2,8 macro to either DA35/2,4 or FA35/2. But I know DA35/2,8 is a very good lens. You will find technical details on photozone, but I could mention that this lens has a suprisingly fast autofocus. It is perfectly usable as a universal lens used for almost everything. RE: Pixel-peeping madness
K-5 IIs does indeed have a better AF. I have three lenses which is now working as they should. My FA*400/5,6 would not focus correctly at all on the three or four K-5 I tried. But it was working on K-7, K10D and *istDS and it is working as it should on K-5 IIs. My FA*80-200 was very difficult to use on K-5. I would guess 1/3 of the pictures was back focused and 1/3 front focused. And my lens needed +8 on AF adjustment at 200mm and +2 at 80mm. On the K-5 IIs, focus is spot on every time. And no adjustment is needed. And my DA*55 is a lot more consistent with K-5 IIs. It was usable on K-5, but quite a lot of the pictures was either front or back focusing. So I am happy with the upgrade. Maybe this is what K-5 should be in the first place, but it wasn't. Upgrading to K-5 IIs has given me at least two lenses back. I still suspect Pentax have a new flagship up their sleeve that will be released shortly for $1,600 - 1,800. Releasing the K-5II was easy, involved minimal RD, and they could say look, we did release a new camera at Photokina...TWO new cameras, in fact. RE: After reading the K5xxx reviews ...
I don't think Nikon and Canon does it any better. EOS 7D has not been replaced, but has received a firmware update to sweeten the pill. Nikon D300s is certainly lagging behind and both Nikon and Canon is more or less forcing customer to upgrade camera and lenses to the more expensive 24x36mm system. I still think K-5 and K-5 II is the best aps-c system on the market today. Re: K-5IIs review and comparison to K-5
Adam at Pentaxforums is only concerned about focus speed. And that is the only property he tested. So we really don't know how much better autofocus is in normal light. RE: K-5IIs review and comparison to K-5
There are already reports from K-30 users that this model is better than K-5. And K-5 II is using a similar AF system as K-30 so I expect it to be more of an upgrade than Adam at Pentaxforums seems to know. My K-5 is in for a repair (lens release button fell of) so K-5 IIs is more than tempting. I find SDM lens focussing to be pretty good in bright light already, even on the K20D. So if low-light focus speed was made a lot better -- and it sounds like it was -- then that puts the K-5IIs on my wish-list. That and the improved resolution are a strong motivation for me. I like this shot except for one minor detail: the shiny bit in the center of the image caught my eye and continued to distract me from looking at the scene as a whole. Specifically the O in the Coferasta label on the box she is working with. Could you selectively decrease the exposure about 1.0 or 1.5 EV in that small area? stan On Oct 8, 2012, at 1:39 PM, SV Hovland wrote: This is from a market early in the morning. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2D01AE85E70E90E2!74861authkey=!AHwUzEdzxpQa7LI Stig Vidar Hovland -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Venice
I was in Venice this week with Jostein, his family and some other friends. It was a workshop and a really nice trip. If you ever visit Venice, bring a gps. It saved me a few times. Jostein got lost and someone had to go after him and pick him up somewhere. In the meantime the others in the group got lost when the only one who know where we was located, was going to find Jostein :-) Here are two pictures .. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2D01AE85E70E90E2!74653authkey=!APAsZwK4GKjHL8Q https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2D01AE85E70E90E2!74655authkey=!ANwgoLQj7-hb5j8 Stig Vidar Hovland -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

WG-2 GPS log into Lightroom
http://download.heime.org/LesWG2.ps1 Here is a link to a powershell script for converting the KML files from WG-2 GPS to something Lightroom can understand and read. The script is reading the non standard Pentax time tags from the description elements and writes them to timestamp elements before gpsbabel is called with proper arguments. Please note that this script needs some tweeking as a few paths are hard coded into the script. You also need GPSBabel. You have to run the powershell command 'Set-executionpolicy remotesigned' before you can execute scripts downloaded from the net. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee176961.aspx Stig Vidar Hovland -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
