I suddenly bought one for about $200. (it sounds fun and I had a weak
 moment)

Does anybody know anything about it?

I bought a used copy a couple years ago on EvilBay for about $450 and
thought I got a decent deal, but yours certainly beats that!

I've enjoyed using it on my Pentax DSLRs but found that it tends to
progressively underexpose when using TTL metering as I move to smaller
apertures. That's not usually a problem because this lens requires a
deliberative style of shooting, allowing one to check the histogram to
confirm (and adjust) exposure. I'm not sure that it is all that much
better than a normal image which has been Photoshopped to eliminate
keystone distortion, although it should have an advantage in
resolution because there are more pixels in the area which is
stretched in a PS correction.

I posted some examples here: http://www.pbase.com/jamesk8752/k28shift
in case you are interested.

Regards, Jim

Thanks Jim, and the rest of you.

I'll experiment a little this weekend to see how it works. I have been thinking
about pictures with mirrors but without the photographer and a couple of other
illusions, and the loss of resolution when doing it in PS is a good point in
favour of such a lens.

From your examples it seems like the distortion is acceptable too.

Regarding the price Norway is a good place for Pentax bargains .-)

 Price is. :-(

Brian, don't mistake me for a Q-size fan, which I'm far from being. For a

using the mirrorless technology).
Assuming that one already owns a medium-size APS DSLR system, I don't see

I agree. I was a little excited about the X Pro 1, until I discovered that it

Re: APS-C crop factor, amount of light and ISOs

2012-07-02 Thread lists

This is why I hate equivalent focal lenghts. :-)

The amount of light reaching the sensor does not depend on the size of the
sensor, and is simply expressed by the f-stop. The f-stop is simply defined as
the focal length divided by the size of the opening, so with a 200mm f/4.0 lens
the opening diamater is 50mm (this is not as evident in wide angles).

On the other hand the amount of light collected by the sensors depends on the
size of the pixels, which can be seen in differences in ISO. Så if a large and
a small sensor have the same pixel size each pixel will be able to collect the
same ampunt of light, but the larger sensor will have room for more pixels.
Thus we geet differences in respolution and/or sensor noise.

DagT

Hi folks!

A confusing question came to me:

To have FF equivalent focal length of a lens for our APS-C sensors, we have to
apply a factor of 1.6x: 40mm f/2.8 ltd is a 64mm FF equivalent. For the depth
of field, this factor is to be applied too: 40mm 2.8 ltd is a 64mm f/4.5 FF
equivalent.

But, what about the amount of light? As the surface divide by 1.6x1.6 and the
sensor is placed at the same distance as a FF SLR film, the light reaching the
sensor is divided by the same amount: 2.56. Are the ISO from FF, APS-C, m4/3,
PS all the same, or are they equivalent ones to take crop factor into account?

Concerning light, is the 40mm 2.8 ltd, a true f/2.8 opened lens, then?

Probably why the Pentax Q doesn't have an anti-aliasing filter: With

AA filter.

I agree, and because of this I believe that we still will see an increase in
the number of pixels on dslrs. You don't have to think about moire if you have

2022-12-09 Thread lists
Hi all,,

As some of you may know, I have been on a two week photo-safari to Botswana,
the Kalahari desert and Okavango Delta in October 2022.

It was an exhausting but VERY rewarding trip, with over 12000 images and a few
hours of video resulting from that.
About 98 percent was shot with just the K3 III and the DFA 150-450mm.

I finished an overview webpage today that has a photo-gallery and a short video

my current 50 favourite images on display.
