Re: [Phono-L] Class M
Hi Brad, Have attached a photo of one of the motors we made. It would certainly be possible to have the cabinet parts made. As I use a quality maker to do this work, I can't be absolutely sure of what it would cost, but as the drawers are the more difficult part, I would estimate around $750 to $1000. Photo of one of my cabinets is also attached. If you are thinking of making up a machine from my parts, I would do the cabinet at cost. Alternatively, I would be interested in obtaining the remains of the cabinet you have if you prefer to let it go. Thanks for the info Mike-- The pics didn't come through-- perhaps send them direct? outune...@verizon.net I don't anticipate trying to make up a machine-- My goal would be to get my original case pieces useable as a half repro/ half original case and then decide which looks best with my machine--the full repro I currently have, or the hybrid. Dave Teti did my top works several years ago- Ken Danckaert did the nickle and fixed the on-off switch. I still need to get the motor working, but it is complete-just needs some tinkering, I guess. It's been a 10 year labor of love. I just retired from teaching, so may have a little more time to finish some long-neglected projects. Mike, Please send a picture of what you are talking about and maybe I can solve it. I have never owned a Class M but I deal with belted loads in a different capacity. I sell industrial electric motors and I have to deal with belted loads all the time. Thanks, Steve On Oct 16, 2009, at 10:01 PM, Mike Tucker wrote: For the technical minded. [Phono-L] Class M
Many thanks for those contemplating my problem with the Class M topworks screw. Mario has provided the blindingly obvious solution which is that the screw pushes against the boss in the middle of the Class M deck ( located between the two right hand mounting blocks) and acts as firstly a stop to prevent the topworks moving to the left and slackening the drive belt, and secondly as a belt tensioner. My problem was looking at the topworks in isolation and not when it was mounted to the deck. At least I now know how to make minor tension adjustments to the drive belt on my two Class M's. Best wishes to all. Mike ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org
[Phono-L] Class M Belt Adjustment.
Edison patent 499879 shows the tension adjustment you speak of. The Screw C serves to adjust the frame A on the box B for the purpose of tightening the driving belt as will be presently explained, and the lugs b' are slotted to permit this movement the screw b being finaly tightend after the proper adjustment of the driving belt has been secured. Patened June 20th, 1893 and applied for July 30, 1888. somewhere I have a few parts list for Perfected and class M phonographs. This adjustment screw is located just under the left end of the mandrel, there should be a casting that has this screw, as part of the bottom motor bedplate. This can be seen in Fig 1 of the patent. _ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. Rich's inquiry got me to finally sit down and sort out all the data into a readable compilation. We have fairly comprehensive information on only three A-250's, with only control lever information on two of others. Two of the three A-250's have differing serial numbers between the dataplate on the cabinet and the embossed number found on the surface bedplate under the platter, so there are more serial numbers represented here than machines. Please read on for additional information on the interesting differing details and dates found on these A-250's. I had fun compiling this list, and very much hope to add to it, as those of you who own or know of another A-250 and are willing to take a look at them and contribute. Best regards to all, Andy Baron Santa Fe, NM Edison A-250 Disc Phonograph: Search for differences in details, and study to determine approximate time of manufacture. Answers appear in same order as on questionnaire. If the motor board has a different serial number than the dataplate on the cabinet, results for specific motor and motor board details are listed under the motor board serial number (found on the bedplate under platter), while all other results are listed under the cabinet dataplate number. Motor board serial numbers are listed without their A1 suffix, and cabinet (dataplate) numbers are listed without their SM prefix. Please note that questions 14, 15,16 and 17 have been added to the previous inquiry list. Owner name (question 13) is optional. This compilation currently maintains the same question order as the original questionnaire, with added questions at the bottom, but may be updated in future to a better organized format. Note that we now have three different PRINTING FORM dates, and two different DATAPLATE dates, from which we can narrow down the approximate production dates of the A-250. To compare date results, based on the dataplate patent number and Form 631 printing form date, see 10b and 11. Please let us know if you have a date not shown here. To see details of John D. Robles?
