Re: [Phono-L] Looking for a screw for a BK....
Hi Ken Wow! For all the years we've been friends, I continue to be amazed and really proud of you and what you are doing. I know you have been going through hard times for several years, and getting to the treatment you need is difficult from where you are living. I admire your courage and strength of character! Thank you for standing up for those who can't, for speaking out when others are silent, and for educating the public on the need for self-protection and awareness. I wish you all the best and offer my strength for you to draw on whenever you need it. You might be in a small, sheltered town, but you are never alone. Kenneth, It's thrilling to hear of your involvement with the AIDS Conference. I've not heard of the AHF but it sounds to me like it does stellar work. I too was thrilled when the President lifted that odious travel ban. Having been around when AIDS first hit, being somewhat involved in the fight for help, and remembering the feeling of abandonment we felt from our government, I am always grateful to people like you who go that extra mile. It really is a disgrace that our country with all the wealth and advances we have, we still leave the poor and the sick to the mercy of the market or charity. I think it's telling that the National Health Service was part of the opening ceremony at the Olympics. Keep up the good work and thank you for it too. Re: [Phono-L] Looking for a screw for a BK....
The screw in question is an ordinary set screw with a slotted head. You can get this screw at any well stocked hardware store. I had the same problem with my Edison Standard Model B. It was missing the set screw that held the 2/4 min. attachment to it. A 5-40 thread is very common in a well stocked store. I took two 5-40 nuts locked them together on the screw. Then with a Dremel with a thin cut off blade and holding the nuts with vice grips. I cut the nut and screw at the same time. You loose a nut but it is easier to put in a slot in the small screw. Hi Ken,Please explain what you meant by the right hand side of the attachment was missing... If it is just the bearing on the right side, you already have one in your machine. He couldn't be referring to the feedscrew, since that is permanently attached to the 2/4 gearing. The only other thing would be the feedscrew tube, which you also already have. So, if he has the feedscrew with the round gear case assembly attached and he has the BE plate that has the locking post on it, you should be good. You might also need the screws to attach the plate and the tube. Send a pic if you have one. Also, let me know what he is asking, if you don't mind. I have a large collection of Edison 2 minute cylinders and was just in fear that he diamond stylus in the H stylus would carve out or damage the grooves in the was cylinders. I know what you mean about wax breaking. I just broke my copy of Bake Dat Chicken Pie and I was almost in tears over it. Lucky for me I found someone willing to sell thiers and it is in better condition than mine was. So I guess it all worke out for the good. But thanks for your input. I think I have found a 2/4 minute attachment for my Sears Oxford that was made after the BKT so the BK conversion attachment will work on it. How cool is that? Still no luck on a complete Colubia BE 2/4 minute attachment. I found someone that has most of one but missing the right hand side of it. I told him if he can find the other part I would be more than happy to buy it. Hi Ken,Yes, you can play 2 minute cylinders with an H stylus. However, that being said, I am not a big fan of playing wax cylinders. I don't particularly like the brittleness of the original wax and hate it when one breaks... also, I like the music on the Blue Amberols and Indestructibles better, so that is what I collect. Everybody has a different idea about this, but I have a friend who just paid a large sum for a 2 min 6 Columbia cylinder at Union and when he got home it fell out of the box and shattered :( Curt Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2012 22:57:04 -0700 From: onatorr...@yahoo.com To: phono-l@oldcrank.org Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Fwd: Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachment. Bob and Curt, If I do have an Edison H Stylus put in my Lyric reproducer by Steven Medved, would I still be able to play 2 minute record with out damage to them? The Edison 4 minute diamond stylus doesn't work on Edison 2 minute records, does it? I have always used a K
