actually, it removes everything from $string that is not in the range 0-9.
when a ^ is the first character inside [], it negates whatever is inside.

ereg_replace (^[0-9],,$string); would remove the first character from
$string if it were in the range 0-9.

[PHP] Installation error..

2001-08-04 Thread Ryan Christensen

Quick question..

I'm installing PHP 4.0.6 on a fresh install of Trustix 1.2. It compiles
fine (I've even slimmid down the modules I'm compiling it with down to
just apxs+mysql), but when I try to restart apache, it gives me the
following error:

Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 241 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/libphp4.so into server:
/usr/lib/libimap.so: undefined symbol: SSL_CTX_set_tmp_rsa_callback

Now, it mentions libimap.so, which is odd. after getting this error the
first time I tried recompiling (after a make clean.. which should
clear out the previous config, right?)

Thoughts?

[PHP] mail - sendmail

2001-08-04 Thread Michael Mehlmann

Hi!

I wanted to use the full SMTP-Protocol including MAIL FROM: and RCPT
TO:, and therefore I can't use mail().
I have written a perl-script, I call from PHP, that connects to the
SMTP-server directly and this worked fine - until a server went down, and my
ISP's-SMTP-Server told my perl-script, that the emailaddress is not routable.
If the mail had been in a mailqueue, no problem - after a few hours it would
be up again!

So is there a way to combine these 2 features?
1. give the mail not directly to the SMTP-Server, but to the mailqueue
2. use the full SMTP-Protocol:
for example:
--
MAIL FROM: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RCPT TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

From: Newsletter [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Newsletter-List [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: blabla

RE: [PHP] New lists (was [PHP] Attitude of B van Ouwerkerk)

2001-08-04 Thread Sam Masiello

I think the problem with spreading out discussions that can be as broad as
the PHP discussion is that you still tend to have people gravitate towards
some of the more general or higher level discussion groups regardless of
whether or not it should fall into the newbie category or not.

This is for a couple of reasons:
1) Newbies may think that their newbie group is read mainly by newbies...so
their question either might not get answered at all or will not receive the
thorough answer they were hoping for.
2) Being a newbie, they might think that their question is worthy (for
lack of a better term) of higher level discussion because, to them, it is a
very difficult problem to solve.

...not to mention that questions would then be spammed across multiple
mailing lists anyway.

Either way, we would still need a PHP General Forum, so I am not convinced
that creating more specialized mailing lists would accomplish much more than
creating MORE mail traffic (from the spammed questions) and alienating
people who used the more specialized lists because most everyone else is
still mainly reading the General Forum.

My 2 copper pieces worth.

 support they need..

Unfortunately this kind of thing happens on all the mailing lists I've seen
that are devoted to questions. The real problem here is that the list is
simply too busy. I can do no more then skim the subject lines and then
usually delete all of it unless something jumps out at me.

It might be helpful if some new mailing lists were created, it wouldn't be a
perfect solution but it would help if there were some degree of self
selecting behavior possible. Currenty all questions go to php-general. If
there were, say, a php-newuser and a php-questions list then perhaps
php-general could be used for slightly higher level discussions. Actually
its probably too late to save php-general, hard to get people to
change. Maybe a new list that caters to a higher level of discussion, say
php-authoring or the like?

Just a thought. So much tends to get lost or over looked in high volume
mailing lists.

[PHP] most recent 5 rows

2001-08-04 Thread Justin French

Hi all,

I have a table with the column id, which is a unique number,
auto-incremented, so the highest id is the most recent.

I wish to retrieve the last five rows from the table (there
will be hundreds of rows) and print some columns to the screen.

I have this table:
id,heading,text,user

This is what I have, which retrieves ALL rows, in id order, from
smallest to greatest:

---
$db = mysql_connect(localhost, root, );
mysql_select_db(soundpimp,$db);

$sql = SELECT * FROM news;
$sql_result = mysql_query($sql);

while ($sql_myrow = mysql_fetch_array($sql_result))
{
echo
$sql_myrow[id].BR.$sql_myrow[heading].BR.$sql_myrow[text].BR.$sql_myrow[user].BR---BR;
}
---

What I'd like to do is ONLY echo the highest 5 id's (the latest 5 rows),
in REVERSE ORDER.

How do I approch this? Do I find the highest ID, then do 5 SELECTS,
counting back?

Any code / ideas appreciated.

Sorry, forgot the ORDER BY, here is what you're looking for:

In a list of numbers up to 10, this would return rows 6,7,8,9, and 10.

If you've compiled apache with support for static modules, there aren't any

compile a

However I'd suspect that the OS you didn't disclose probably compiled

the easiest way of compiling apache+php, since it's php3 that came by

 just apxs+mysql), but when I try to restart apache, it gives me the
 following error:

 Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 241 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
 Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/libphp4.so into server:
 /usr/lib/libimap.so: undefined symbol: SSL_CTX_set_tmp_rsa_callback

 Now, it mentions libimap.so, which is odd. after getting this error the
 first time I tried recompiling (after a make clean.. which should
 clear out the previous config, right?)

 Thoughts?

Re: [PHP] shtml or php ??

2001-08-04 Thread Dave.O

This brings me back to an original problem I had before, I do have the
instruction in my conf file to load php as a module but I get the following
error:-

[warn] loaded DSO c:/usr/php/sapi/php4apache.dll uses plain apache 1.3 api,
this module might crash under EAPI! (please recompile it with -DEAPI)

I have downloaded this binary from php.net I have tried 4.0.5 and 4.0.6 and
I get this error on both.

Any suggestions

  Can anyone help me with this, I am using apache and assume that this
 virtual
  command should work, am I best to leave it in shtml or should I change
to
  php as I am using php more and more ??? Please can somebody help me

 There's using Apache with PHP as a Module, and there's using Apache with
PHP
 as a CGI.

 If your httpd.conf file has something like:
 AddModule php
 LoadModule php
 Handler application/x-httpd-php php
 (and not with comment character # in front of them)
 you are using Module

 Conversely, if you httpd.conf file has stuff like:
 Action application/x-httpd-php php
 Alias php /path/to/php
 in it, you are using CGI.

 Actually, I'm betting ?php phpinfo();? will tell you if you are using
PHP
 as Module or CGI.

 If it's CGI, virtual will not work, as Rasmus said.

Re: [PHP] file downloads

2001-08-04 Thread Rasmus Lerdorf

 Why does this code produce a page cannot be displayed error?

Your query is probably wrong. Comment out the header stuff and add some
error checking to your query.

 ?php
  mysql_connect(localhost,username,password);
  mysql_select_db(database);
  $query = SELECT file_path from photos where photos_id=$photos_id;
  $result = @mysql_query($query);

The quotes are useless there. Change the above to:

   $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());

  $row = mysql_fetch_row($result);
  $path = $row[0];
  $parts = split(/,$path);

Use explode() instead. No sense wasting a regex on a trivial delimiter
like that.

  $file_name = $parts[count($parts)-1];

uh.. basename() would do the same thing, so you can get rid of this line
and also the split/explode actually.

 header(Content-Type: application/download\n);
 header(Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$file_name);
 header(Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary);
 $fn=fopen($path , r);
 fpassthru($fn);

readfile($path); would replace those two lines.

RE: [PHP] most recent 5 rows

2001-08-04 Thread John Monfort

 Or, you could do two steps

 1) retrieve the last inserted ID, with mysql_last_inserted_ID (or
something like that).

 2) then, all records with id(s) greater then the_last_id_number minus
five.

 something like

 $most_recent = select mysql_last_id();

 select * from TABLE where id  '$most_recent - 5';

 ...or something to that effect. There's probably a more efficient way to
 do it, but this guarantees the most recent five.

Why you don't use HTTP_SESSION_VARS???
You don't need to use ression_register/unregister() with
$HTTP_SESSION_VARS.

Do

foreach($HTTP_POST_VARS as $k = $v) {
  $HTTP_SESSIN_VARS[$k] = $v;
}
OR
$HTTP_SESSION_VARS = array_merge($HTTP_SESSION_VARS, $HTTP_POST_VARS);

Important: This kind of code is VERY dangarous unless you check all
$HTTP_POST_VARS and you are sure safe to do that.

 Also what is register_globals ?? Should I have this on or off ?

off. unless you must use app assumes its on, and cannot fix it.

Much easier to write secure code with register_globals=off. (And a
little bit faster)

[PHP] Re: Postgresql + Sessions + Large objects.

2001-08-04 Thread Yasuo Ohgaki

Do you have session db and your data db on the same db?

If you do, most likely, transaction is started in session open
handler. You cannot nest transaction and lo_read/open etc fails.

If you have situation like this, create dedicated database for session
db.

 This brings me back to an original problem I had before, I do have

following
 error:-

 [warn] loaded DSO c:/usr/php/sapi/php4apache.dll uses plain apache

 this module might crash under EAPI! (please recompile it

 I have downloaded this binary from php.net I have tried 4.0.5 and
4.0.6 and
 I get this error on both.

 Any suggestions

This warning say, your apache is compiled with mod_ssl and uses EAPI,
but your php does not compiled with EAPI.

So it can crush. I guess you need build windows binary by yourself.
(If you cannot find binary compiled with -DEAPI)

you're going about this the wrong way.
try it like this:

$result=mysql_query(select * from table where first='$first' and

if(mysql_num_rows($result)){

you want to keep the result sets that mysql gives back as small as

Actually it wouldn't be overkill or big...its really a small quick file
to setup...if you just put the index file in there, someone won't be
able to get a directory listing, but they'll still have access to your

[PHP] Potential bug?

2001-08-04 Thread Anthony Lieuallen

I've just discovered a weird quirk in PHP. I'd first like to check if it is
a known bug/weird feature/something else already known. I've not yet tested
it much, except I see it doesn't happen on every script, but either of the
two results are quite strange to me.

Suituation: file myscript.php exists, directory myscript/ does not. If I
browse to http://myhost/myscript.php all is well. But
http://myhost/myscript/ does return something, where I expect a '404 not
found'. Sometimes it just returns myscript.php. BUT sometimes it returns
the PHP source (minus PHP comments). Aslo,
http://myhost/myscript/anything/anything/bla.bla.bla returns the same.

I was running PHP 4.0.4pl1 on RedHat Linux 6.2, kernel 2.4.6. I upgraded to
PHP 4.0.6 and still see this behavior.

P.S. For the curious I discovered this because a personal site I have uses
directory/admin.php for site admin, while another site I am developing at
work uses directory/admin/ and I typed the wrong one at home :)

[PHP] Is there a setInterval function in PHP?

2001-08-04 Thread Zlutarch G.

Hi, I couldn't find a similar function in the official documentation. Does
anyone know if there is a setInterval function in PHP? i.e., making repeated
calls to a function separated by a given time period. Is such a function
even possible in PHP? One way to do it, without a PHP function, is to use a
HTML meta tag, but then the whole script would be called, not just a
specific function. That's what I have been using, but it's a poor man's way
of doing things, not very elegant. I thought a function such as setInterval
would be the way to go, and it would be an esay way to stream data.

RE: [PHP] Matching Question

2001-08-04 Thread hassan el forkani

ok,
if i understand you correctly, you're taking data from a form and want to
check that it is not already in the database, right?
then why don't you include the submitted vars in the query like this:

$sql = SELECT First_Name, Last_Name, Address FROM $table_name
WHERE (Family_Position = 'H' or Family_Position = 'S') and first_name =
'$form_First_Name' and last_name='$form_last_name' and
address='$form_address';
$result = @mysql_query($sql,$connection) or die( Couldn't execute query.);
$number_of_matches = mysql_num_rows($result);
if ($number_of_matches  0)
{print bla bla;
else{
//submitted info is ok and can be inserted
}
please correct me if i missunderstood your question

 Well . . . the implementations *should* produce the same result, but md5
is
 a *one-way* hash function -- i.e. you cannot decrypt it at all.

[PHP] Re: php-4.0.6 on RH-7.1

2001-08-04 Thread hunter

I am trying to compile and install php-4.0.6 on a redhat-7.1 linux-2.4.3
server using the following for configure:

./configure --prefix=/usr --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/
apxs --enable-versioning --with-mysql --enable-track-vars --with-xml
--disable-
debug --enable-pic --enable-shared --enable-inline-optimization
--with-regex=sy

--enable-
magic-quotes --enable-safe-mode --enable-sockets --enable-sysvsem
--enable-sysv
shm --enable-yp --enable-ftp --enable-wddx --without-oracle
--without-oci8

and when i make i receive the following error:
/bin/sh ../libtool --silent --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.
-I../main  -DLINUX=22 -DMOD_SSL=208104 -DEAPI -DUSE_EXPAT -DSUPPORT_UTF8

make[1]: *** [zend_execute.lo] Error 1

make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

this is after i patched php with redhat's patches...funny thing is that
without the --with-apxs option, it makes just fine, but i wanted to
build a DSO so that i could drop it in to apache-1.3.20 as a loadable
module, so i added that option and did a make clean and reconfigured,
and thats when i received the error. I didnt see the error without the
--with-apxs option

Has anyone got any ideas on how to correct this?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Rasmus has stated before that there is no longer any difference between
include_once() vs. require_once(), or include() vs. require(). I forget
which version that became the case, but if you are using a current version
of PHP the above two lines should produce identical results.

[PHP] Does PHP scripts always finish, or are they halted if the web page loading is halted?

2001-08-04 Thread LDiablo

I've made some scripts that let a user work on a MySQL database via the
web. When a web user clicks a button in an HTML form, a new page is
loaded which runs PHP scripts which in turn manipulate the database
accourding to the users's request.

However I'm worried that the scripts may halt if the web user halts the
loading of the web page which is running the scripts, leaving the
database corrupt due to incomplete manipulation. I'm also worried the
same could happen if the web page is not successfully loaded due to
network problems.

So to the real question:

Does PHP always finish off the execution of scripts, or does that depend
on whether the web page is indeed successfully loaded?
