[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction
CarlOtto Wrote: When I use the setup with SoftSqueeze (2.8) I get something like pink noise and can only very faintly hear the original sound in the background. Sorry - it looks as though SoftSqueeze doesn't decode the FLAC24 stream properly. There's a new version at inguzaudio.com/EQ/ which fixes this by sending WAV to softsqueeze, instead of FLAC24. If anyone has a SB1: that should work now, too. CarlOtto Wrote: After installing the plugin with the newly created filters the sound could best be described as closed in or coming out of a tunnel. A bit boomy bass, lost a lot of the high frequencies etc. Investigating. Please check that you used the ImpulsePrep version 0.9.7.2 (impulseprep /? will show version information). If so... any chance you can email me your measurement recordings? CarlOtto Wrote: The measurement was done with a Behringer ECM8000 and it went reasonably smooth, no obvious problems. I had to turn down the preamp line level a bit to prevent clipping, so the live channel would no longer be on -6dB while I left the reference channel at -6dB (instructions didn't mention whether to change that as well or not). I noticed that the recorded wavefile looked very modulated and far from flat like the reference - I have no clue if this is normal. I tried saving recorded wave-files with and without the clicks at start and end (again: instruction not clear on this point). Sounds fine. Channel level mismatch shouldn't matter. Leaving the timer clicks in the recording or chopping them out also shouldn't make any difference to the results. Thanks for trying it out! [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Choppy and broken live feed on AlienBBC
You would have been requested to run the test when installing AlienBBC - it is the one with a menu of about 5 BBC stations. To re-run the test, open a command prompt window and go (i.e. use cd command) to the Bin directory in the Slimserver folder. There should be a BAT file whose name begins with Test. Type its name but you will have to put the name inside quotes () because it has a space in its name. Select a BBC station preferably R1 R4 - and let it play for at least 20 mins. If it gets choppy then it is your network connection. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26297 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC to GSPlayer on Pocket PC
I use GSPlayer on my Pocket PC to open the URL //slimserver:9000/stream.mp3 and listen to music. This seems to work fine with MP3s streamed from the slimserver. However, at night I'd like to listen to radio it doesn't seem to work with AlienBBC. GSPlayer displays the name of the radio programme I chose to listen to but I don't ever get any sound. In the slimserver debug I see this message 'Alien only streams to Slim players' which would seem to indicate the source of the problem. Is there a technical reason why it can't stream to the Pocket PC? There is a line of code in AlienBBC which prevents streaming to non SB clients - the debug message is part of code. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - problems
I have had my SB3 for a week now and have been unable to get Alien BBC to work at all. It appears to be set up (on the Slimserver menu and on the SB) but when I click to connect - nothing - silence. Everything else is ok and other internet radio feeds are fine. On the SB if I click on a radio station it tries to connect briefly and displays as if playing - but no sound (or sound display) I have downloaded the latest version of AlienBBC (v1.03 6.2) and am running Windows XP. I have tried every hint and tip I could find (eg socketwrapper), have updated firewalls etc, server settings, and done the mplayer tests - All to no avail And this morning it got really strange (after another fruitless re-install) - whenever I click to play a AlienBBC station it stops slimserver I would really appreciate some help - being able to access BBC listen again was a main reason for getting the SB Many thanks -- richwleeds richwleeds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6921 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26317 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction
Hi! Inguz, thanks again for your efforts - and all for free! I love open source! I hope my small efforts can contribute in some way to the improvement of your plugin. I got the revised plugin today and it certainly works well with SoftSqueeze, so I have now re-retired my SqueezeBox (I'll find some use for that one eventually). The sound quality improved marginally, probably due to the better transport (Lynx Two vs. SqueezeBox), but not a lot. The main problem is still there. I've done some more listening and the way I would describe the sound is: Bass - boomy (flabby, loose), where it used to be warm, distinct, very precise, very low. My loudspeakers are Quad 909's (electrostats) + one Rel Stadium I subwoofer. The sub is connected to both power amplifier outputs and I suppose mixes the signal somehow. I've set the sub to kick in at almost the lowest frequency possible, to avoid too much interference with the Quads. I know the Quads are supposed to be full range, but I still found that adding the sub improves the bass so I stubbornly keep it for now. Not sure whether this has something to do with the funny bass response after filtering. One suspiscion: Maybe the mic, the ECM8000 is unreliable at very low frequencies. Looking at the recorded wavefile, there is very low amplitude in the low end of the spectrum and I'm not totally convinced that this is the truth. The normal bass response is very deep (maybe due to the sub) and precise. If the microphone gets this wrong, then of course the filter will try to enhance the bass and it will go all boomy? Midrange - not sure. Treble - cut off maybe. It's the same sort of difference as when comparing a normal CD to a Super Audio (SACD) recording. The SACD sound is often described as airy, wider, opened up etc - all very loose terms, but I agree. I still don't bother much with SACD's. The difference is there, but compared to an upsampled CD, it's not enough to be worth the hassle (I would prefer to rip SACD's and play them from the hard disk but due to SoftSqueeze issues that cannot be done, so listening to a SACD means actually getting my butt out of the chair to put a plastic disk into the transport...almost forgot how to do that...). The correction filter adds the same sort of difference (downwards) only many times the size, so much that it gets very audible. This is what I mean with tunnel-sound. I've posted my measurement wavefiles to Inguz as I strongly suspect them to be funny (I did a few but they all look very similar). Looking at the recorded wavefile, the amplitude in the high end of the spectrum is much higher than the midrange so I suppose the filter tries to correct this by suppressing the high end. However, that makes the sound go tunnelly and it sounds all wrong. The reason I want room correction is not connected to the high or the low ends of the spectrum, those sound fine to me as they are. I have a few bad resonances in the midrange though which are really annoying and I can't use physical room correction here due to its negative WAF. -- CarlOtto CarlOtto's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26005 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction
Update! I found Inguz' own settings on his site and I took the normal.drc from there. I had to change one of the settings, I think it was the PSPointsFile which was set to something of his own. I changed that to flat.txt and kept all the other settings (checked that it still said ECM8000 for the MIC compensation). Comparing this file to the standard normal.drc that comes with the package, there are many differences which I don't understand. Now this made a difference! Suddenly the tunnel is gone and I'm out in the light! The treble is now very good, midrange too. Bass however is still boomy, I played with the bass filters in the 9-band and tried to lower it, but didn't get any good results. Just had one more thought about the bass; My subwoofer is located in one of the back corners of the room (due to the WAF it cannot be placed more optimally at the front). I've read somewhere that the ECM8000 needs to be pointed direct towards the loudspeakers because it rolls off quickly in other directions. Could this mean that it simply doesn't hear my subwoofer right and then overcompensates the bass? In that case, it would be better if I could tell the filter to lay off any adjustments below X Hz, say 100 or so - but I don't know how to adjust that in the parameters. Or maybe there is some better way of doing it? -- CarlOtto CarlOtto's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26005 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
