Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
I've installed Wave Input 1.04 on SC 7.3.3 and have the soundcard set to Wave Out Mix. When playing through the Duet it buffers then plays a few seconds and then buffers and rebuffers. When sound does pass it is very good, but only lasts a few seconds. It is continuously buffering. My laptop wifi will drop from 270 Mbps to as low as 15 Mbps and it will even cause my network connection to disconnect. I have the laptop and the Duet on separate routers. When I stop the playback on wavin:0 the speed goes up immediately. All else is working fine. When playing anything else on the duet the speed is 270 Mbps. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
You do not provide any details of your OS, your networking hardware or your network topology (I.e. how are the laptop, player and two routers connected and what is the traffic route) so any suggestions are speculation. The WaveInput plugin uses a small app called wavin2cmd.exe and also WaveOut the vendor supplied driver. These are the only items that are different when using the WaveInoput plugin. There are a number of possibilities. 1. The vendor audio driver has a bug or Wave Out feature is badly configured that is affecting the network driver. 2. You are using Wifi 802.11n and have enabled channel bonding to achieve 270Mbps but the network/computer load of wavin2cmd.exe/driver is forcing the network to stop using channel bonding. 3. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezeslave 5.1/7.1 multi stream support?
Hi guys, Been playing with squeezeslave a bit over past few days while I've been doing some testing/development on ProntoSqueeze2. The Duet controller is set up on a SMC G router (not ad-hoc), the receiver is wired. The laptop is on a trendnet wifi N easy up grader (not a router, it plugs into the router) set up with the extension channel and a Trendnet pc card adapter. I have no trouble streaming Slingplayer with this setup. I had the most recent sound card update from Compaq installed but today I found a newer update from VIA and installed it. It has Stereo Mix in it. Same problem with buffering, whether through receiver or controller headphones. I noticed that I had not turned off SC on my desktop. After I turned it off and closed a net radio stream running through the desktop the Wave Input worked better. It is not buffering continuously and the wifi speed is better but still drops to 54 Mbsp. The stream is poor with skips and garbled sound and stops when the buffer is low. I have one desktop, two laptops, a PDA, a network printer, Slingbox, and the Duet on the network. Everything works flawlessly except for the Wave Input plugin. My other laptop is a new IBM SL500. It has a sound card with only a microphone volume control, the only sound I can send through the wave input is the microphone but it does not buffer and rebuffer. The desktop has an IBM business MB with on board sound with no stereo mix so I cannot try the plugin on the SC on that computer. Should I try only one channel on the WIFI N? Okay. I think I know what happened. Since the firmware update (which was supposed to fix the connectivity issues of the SBC), my SBC suddenly has problems connecting. Sometimes it fails to connect to the SqueezeBox, sometimes to SqueezeNetwork and sometimes to the SqueezeCenter. It appears that when it is connected to SN and fails to connect to SC, it connects back to SN, and if you don't happen to watch the display when it gives up, you don't notice the failure. But this is a problem for another thread. It appears that last Sunday when I thought the SBR was connected to SC, it was actually connected to SN. The same thing happened again, today. So while I was listening to the SBR, SC was running the idle countdown. But because I was writing a reply in this thread at the time, the server did not hibernate when it was told to. So far so good. Now comes the unexpected bit. With the old version of SPC that I had modified, SPC would then repeat the hibernate command every idle timeout + 1 minutes as can be seen in the log: 7647 The current version of SPC starts to submit the not idle command again, immediately after the hibernate action: 7648 This is probably due to the fact that now, the not idle action is also being performed during the idle countdown. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
Does the dog bark as well when I start playing music again before the server hibernates? This was the reason why the not idle command was needed in the first place. I actually liked the idea that the hibernate action was repeated occasionally, just in case someone else had been playing with the LightsOut configuration in the mean time. At the moment, I am not sure what I would expect from a generic watchdog, whether it should submit busy actions during the idle countdown and whether it should repeat the hibernate action or not. In the context of LightsOut, though, it would be nice if no busy actions were submitted during countdown and if the hibernate would occasionally be repeated. Maybe we should discuss this with the other potential beneficiaries of the new SPC features. -- mvordeme 'last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/mvordeme) | scaleo home server 2105 | squeezecenter 7.3.3 | server power control 20090622.17 | squeezebox boom duet | rotel rsp-1066 | rotel rmb-100 | phonar p-5 mvordeme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22892 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The idle-watchdog would only get disabled at the expiration of the idle-timeout. Anytime between the last not-idle and idle-expire, if you start playing music, the idle-watchdog catches it. If there is significant lag time between sending the suspend/hibernation command and LightsOut actually putting the system to sleep...the idle-watchdog would be disabled and wouldn't hear any music playing and thus wouldn't catch it. mvordeme;434771 Wrote: At the moment, I am not sure what I would expect from a generic watchdog, whether it should submit busy actions during the idle countdown and whether it should repeat the hibernate action or not. In the context of LightsOut, though, it would be nice if no busy actions were submitted during countdown and if the hibernate would occasionally be repeated. Maybe we should discuss this with the other potential beneficiaries of the new SPC features. Tell me more about how LightsOut works. What's the function of the not-idle message you're writing to the registry? How quickly does LightsOut react to the time to sleep message in the registry? If LightsOut's reaction to the time to sleep message is configurable, then why not configure it to react as quickly as possible? Let the count-down delay happen in SrvrPowerCtrl. Or, if it makes more sense to have the delay-before-sleep countdown happening in LightsOut, then set SrvrPowerCtrl's idle-countdown to 0. (This will require a code change to allow values lower than 5, I believe). I could also make it so that there are three different custom idle-state commands: Playing: NotIdle_cmd gets executed. Not playing, but still counting down: IsIdleWaiting_cmd fires off. Countdown expired: IsIdle_cmd gets run. As soon as the IsIdle_cmd gets run, the idle-watchdog gets disabled and remains so until the wakeup-watchdog detects that the system has resumed. In cases where the system never goes to sleep, we could make it so that the idle-watchdog is automatically re-enabled after a suitable time out...e.g. 10 minutes? You could just configure the IsIdleWaiting_cmd as empty...so nothing happens. This sort of approach, while it will clutter up the settings page, would potentially give you more control. -- gharris999 gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Accessing Softsqueeze on Remote PC
If you're having trouble getting Softsqueeze on your remote PC to connect to Squeezecenter on your main pc, there MAY be a firewall issue. If your hardware players are working OK with squeezecenter, I would think the firewall on your main PC (the one running squeezecenter) is OK, so the problem may be with a firewall on the remote pc. Here is an excerpt from an entry in the wiki describing the exceptions which need to be added to the firewall: Windows: Windows XP Service Pack 2 turns on a built-in firewall by default. You will need to configure the firewall to allow access to Slim Server. To do this: Go to Control Panel Click Security Center Click Windows Firewall under 'Manage security settings for:' Click the Exceptions tab You will then need to add three exceptions for these ports by clicking 'Add Port...': Port number: 3483 (TCP) - Name: SlimServer Control Port number: 3483 (UDP) - Name: SlimDiscovery Port Number: 9000 (TCP) - Name: SlimServer Web -- tcutting tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64796 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I suppose I could try running: sudo /sbin/shutdown -h -k now ..which is a fake shutdown request. If sudo returns 0, then there hasn't been a permissions problem...and thus I know that /etc/sudoers has been correctly configured. However, if there is a permission problem, I suspect that my 'HasBeenSetup' code will be blocked until sudo times-out waiting for a password. Well, could a setupiscomplete boolean pref be set by the install script as the last part of the install process, when all went well ? This way there would be no need to wire the execution of a test to the GUI, simply to look for the value of the boolean. Since the link instructs to run the install script, in case of plugin reset (setupiscomplete reset to 0 as well) users would be asked to re-run the setup script, which is harmless I think. For full manual install, a pref setup via CLI for setupiscomplete could do. -- epoch1970 epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The only reason why I need the not idle action is that I may resume playing music before the server hibernates. Otherwise it would have been enough to issue the not idle action at wake-up and the hibernate action after the idle timeout. gharris999;434782 Wrote: Tell me more about how LightsOut works. What's the function of the not-idle message you're writing to the registry? How quickly does LightsOut react to the time to sleep message in the registry?LightsOut is an energy manager for WHS. I find it quite embarrassing that something like LightsOut is not included in the first place. LightsOut has a calendar where you can schedule up and down times, it will automatically wake the server during the configured backup window, but most importantly, it will keep the server running while any WHS clients are connected, and hibernate the system when after an idle timeout no clients are connected, no up time is scheduled and no backup is currently running. The only problem with LightsOut is that it does not recognize SqueezeCenter clients, so if all your PCs are shut down, it will hibernate the server even if you are currently playing music. The ideal way for SPC to interface with LightsOut would be to register as another client, so LO would not hibernate the server as long as SPC signals an active client. Unfortunately, there is no interface that allows registration of additional clients. The current workaround is to change the timeout action setting for LightsOut. In the LightsOut configuration, you can choose what to do when the server is no longer needed. You can do nothing, suspend, hibernate or shut down. This choice is stored in the registry and constantly monitored by LightsOut. The VB script I wrote changes this value, so when LightsOut wants to send the system to bed while there is still music being played, the configured action will be do nothing. As soon as SPC's idle timeout has been exceeded, the value will be changed to hibernate (or whatever else you choose to configure), and LightsOut appears to pick up the change pretty much instantly and send the server sleeping if there are no other known activities. gharris999;434782 Wrote: If LightsOut's reaction to the time to sleep message is configurable, then why not configure it to react as quickly as possible? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
To try to isolate the problem source - you need to try to run a few programs in turn to see which if any affects LAN speed. 1. Start SC running playing a local source and ensure network speed is 270mbs. Keeps this running for all tests. 2. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN speed problem. Using Windows recorder accessory - record audio from Wave Out. Check if network speed changes while recording. This test SC running and recording from PC audio. The WaveInput plugin is not in use. 3. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN speed problem. Get a copy of wavin2cmd.exe from the Plugin Bin a directory and lame.exe 3.96.1 into the same temp directory. Open a command prompt window and change direct to the temp directory with wavin2c,mf.exe and lame.exe . Run the following command wavin2cmd.exe -o wavin:0 | lame -x - audio.mp3 Check LAN speeds. After a few minutes stop the command and play the file audio.mp3 to ensure that you were recording the audio stream. If is just static - remove the -x command probably because version of lame is not 3.96.1. This is effectively the same processes that run when WaveInput plugin is being used. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Or as an alternative, you could make the disabling of the watchdog after the idle timeout optional. I don't think I'm really understanding what you're after here. To me, it seems like some of the things you're asking for are mutually exclusive. So, let's take them one at a time: In post #782, you bemoan the fact that in the new version, the idle-expired action was taken just once and the idle-countingdown action was issued again immediately. My proposal was to disable idle watchdog checking until the OnWakeupWatchdog detected that the system had resumed from sleep. You don't appear to like this suggestion. So, here is my next try: After the first idle-expired action, I'll ensure that the idle-expired actions continue every minute until the OnWakeupWatchdog detects that the system has resumed. This should be close to the behavior of the old code that you cited. To my mind, either of these approaches address the issue you raised in post #782. The only difference is that, in the second method, multiple idle-expired actions may be executed, potentially ad infinitum. The danger with both these approaches is that, if the system is asleep for only a very brief time (or not at all) the OnWakeupWatchdog will never (approach 1:) re-enable the OnIdleWatchdog, or (approach 2:) reset the IsIdle countdown counter. Which method would you prefer? Both of them address post #782. Both have drawbacks. But pick one, please.
