[SlimDevices: Plugins] Double-blind listening test between two tracks

2009-09-24 Thread wowo

If you want to test if you can hear the difference between for instance
a mp3 320 file and a flac 16bit 44 or flac 24 96, you can use in
Foobar2000 a plugin called ABX Comparator:
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_abx
Hydrogenaudio (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org) found that the ABX test a
very good and almost standardtest if you want to test if you can hear
differences.

*I realy like to do the ABX testing on my Squeezebox* (Squeezecenter
installed on NAS).

1) Is there a plugin for the Squeecenter who does the same as the ABX
comparator?

Edit: Sorry wrong thread; must be 3 party plugins

2) Or is there anybody who can make the ABX comparator working on a
Squeezebox or Squeezecenter?

3) Or can someone tell me how i can do realy double-blind testing on a
Squeezebox/Squeezecenter

2009-09-24 Thread kika1992

Hello,

I'm very interested in your applet and wish to find a way to use the
IR-ability of the Squeezebox Controller to control my amp. I have an
Audionet SAM amplifier and Audionet was so kind to send me a table with
their RC5 codes (see attached pdf). I've understand the way the RC5
Codes are build but I didn't figure out how to insert them into your
applet.

Maybe someone can help me to get the codes for Address 16 power on/off
(012), volume up/down (016/017) and input up/down (032/033) correctly
inside the SqueezeIR app?

Many thanks in advance!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Double-blind listening test between two tracks

2009-09-24 Thread Quad

An ABX plugin for the Controller. That would be extremely neat!

I would love to do some testing, even if there are a couple of studies
which tell you what you actually will hear and what you won't. (I do
believe them, I just want to experience it myself.)

But sorry wowo, I don't think this will be possible on a NAS due to its
limited power. Though, I'm not an expert at all.

Actually, my first statement was wrong.
You can do that by manually adding test.squeezenetwork.com as a

It will show some erroneous menus (Albums,...) but nevertheless work.

An update is due soon (it's already submitted to Apple since Monday)
but I don't see why that should not work, it has always worked for me.
But If you look at the developer forum, there's currently a bug report
(I could not check that, have to get home first) against Baby that
remote volume control seems to be overridden by the device itself, could
it be that?
Does the controller work?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-09-24 Thread antoinath

Hello Pippin,

I've got a SqueezeBox Classic with the last native version of iPeng on
my iPod Touch to control it.

First, your app is really good, but some things are missing to me to be
really usefull. Let me give to you my suggestions, so perhaps it will be
included in a future version ?

1) When I'm listening to a track of my own collection, it would be
really great to have something like View tracks of same Album, View
tracks of same Artist, View tracks of same Genre, ...
This will permit to navigate immediatly to the corresponding browse
page, without searching for the album, artist or genre from scratch...

2) I searched a long time to know how to have informations on a track
(by holding 2 seconds on it in the browse screen). But it would be very
usefull to have these informations for the currently playing track
directly from the now playing screen.
For example by sliding to a new page after the playlist page : Server
info page - Now playing page - Playlist page - Track information
page

3) When I'm listening to a web radio or web service (like radioIo or
deezer for example), I have the artist, track name and artwork on the
Now Playing page. Great. But nothing tell me what is the webradio name
or web service i'm listening... it would be great to remind somewhere
this information

4) It seems that it there are several artworks for a song, it is not
possible to visualize all of them on the Now Playing screen... do you
confirm ?

5) One last thing (for the moment...) : would it be possible to have an
history of the last played tracks (20 last, configurable). Indeed, when
I listen to a radio, something I listen to a track but I'm not able to
read my iPhone screen to read the artist name. But when I want to do
this, it's too late because the next song begun.
I wonder it would be difficult to do this... perhaps more for a squeeze
center plugin than for iPeng ?

In all cases, again, thank you for you app, it is a good app !

If you're OK, I will give you other suggestions in the future, to
improve this app and make it REALLY nice for squeezebox control.

Bye !

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Double-blind listening test between two tracks

2009-09-24 Thread erland

There is the AB Tester plugin which we used during the Boom beta testing
to compare different DSP configurations. If I remember correctly it was
also possible to use it to compare two tracks.

I'm not sure if has been updated so it works with 7.4, but the code is
available here if someone like to try:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.4/trunk/contrib/plugins/ABTester/

I think it only have an interface on a Classic/Boom/Transporter, so if
you like to use it on a Touch/Radio/Duet you will have to update the
code.
I don't have the time to look at it myself at the moment.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-09-24 Thread pippin

1 + 2: Next release will have context menus on NowPlaying that give you
this for the current track (from the cover) or any track in the current
playlist (from the playlist)
3. This is actually not as simple as it seems, there's no explicit
information about this. I could see whether I can derive something from
the URL but I believe the best way to get this would be to file an
enhabncement request against the TrackInfo menu in SqueezeCenter (which
is what iPeng will display as a context menu from NowPlaying).
bugs.slimdevices.com
4. No, there's only one artwork per track in SqueezeCenter right now.
5. Yep, actually that would make for a cool plugin...
Yet I still believe it could also be done in iPeng. Could you file a
ticket?
https://trac.penguinlovesmusic.de/trac/ipengnat/
There's quite a few open ones so you can generally expect me to forget
anything for which there is _NO_ ticket but to at least frequently
review anything that does have one.

And yes, I definitely appreciate any suggestions :-)
trac (see link above) is the most appropriate place for these unless
it's more of a discussion type of thing in which case this thread is
the right place.

My Amp uses RC5 so the supplied sample SqueezeIRData.txt file should
give you some clues. The command in the DATA_PRESS field for your power
would be RC5X:16:012:-1 and could be linked to either a menu item of a
physical key depending on what you put in the other fields.

SqueezeIR does support RC6 Mode 0. Have a look in the sample
SqueezeIR.txt file, there should be an example of it in there somewhere.
However, there are so many versions of RC6 that may mean it doesn't
work for you. If you can get a lirc file then maybe the script posted
earlier in this thread may help or you can wait for the next version
that will support lirc files directly.

Thanks for a great plugin,
However it is odd that the most important features are not documented
but hidden in configuration pages or other peoples forums posts
useability should be more in focus for SB in general...

Press hold snooze button to get to svrpowercontrol menu.
Press right again when connecting to server to send WOL wakeup signal.

plugin.

WOL must be enabled on linux, there is a thread in unix/linux about
this
at least I need 'ethtool -s eth0 wol g; echo NMAC /proc/acpi/wakeup'

Do you mean a new one (URL) or one that you did find through SC/iPeng?
New one: no way, yet, you'd have to add that through the web interface
first (there IS already a ticket for this one, it's planned for 1.2.5).
Setting a favorite for whatever is currently playing will be supported
in the next release, also through the Context Menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Guidance for new plugin developers?

2009-09-24 Thread hellesangel

Which development environment provides the best debug/step capabilities
for Perl applications? Does single stepping work with SqueezeCenter
plugins, or is it mainly writing debug to logs? I've done a bit of Perl
programming, well hacked together a few basic scripts, before on Windows
machines at work, know my way around the basics of openSUSE Linux 11.1,
and now need to dive into SqueezeCenter plugins.

My idea is to modify/extend the Server Power Control plugin from Gordon
Harris with new menu items so it can control the power to any given
server. The reason for this is I have an always on laptop that runs the
SqueezeCenter and a much bigger, very power hungry, PC with a big RAID
array that hosts the music. As we mostly listen to Internet radio the
big computer does not need to be on, but it would be handy to be able to
wake it up and shut it down from the SqueezeBoxes.

Any further tips, of course, very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hah. At last, someone using the remote like me.

Yes, NMAC is not a fixed name at all. Many boards have integrated
networking today, but some still not and people might be using a PCI
card instead (think of an addon giga card.)

I am afraid the automagic way to setting acpi correctly is a bit
complex. I just tried this on my current project machine (and
unfortunately it uses an integrated card and the node name is NMAC as
well):

Code:

otto:~# lspci -D | grep -i ether
:00:14.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP51 Ethernet Controller (rev a1)
  otto:~# grep :00:14.0 /proc/acpi/wakeup
  NMACS5 enabled   pci::00:14.0

Perhaps if there is an interest, I can hook a PCI network card to the
machine, use that instead of our friend NMAC and see what goes ?
I also have an old board without any integrated ethernet, to test with.
And a bunch of network PCI cards. Nothing designed for USB / PCMCIA or
other busses, though.

Also, if 2 cards are in service, I guess you don't want to muck with
the WOL settings of the wrong one. A long path that seems repeatable:
Code:

otto:~# lspci -v -s :00:14.0 | grep IRQ
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 21
  otto:~# cat /proc/interrupts | grep 21
  21:1723719 IO-APIC-fasteoi eth0
  otto:~# ifconfig eth0 | grep inet
  inet addr:192.168.1.50 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
  inet6 addr: fe80::213:8fff:fe70:49f2/64 Scope:Link

Gze. Everybaday gets a Mac and life will be easier on the power
management front. ;)

Any interest for digging further into this?

(On a side note, this is a good day. I got a new SB3 -my stereo will
not look like a phone- and the only way to hook it was to get rid of
the SBR :) What a difference a day makes.)

SyncOptions all wrap the power command, and the versions in my live

just that problem, as SBS 7.4 made a subtle change to the power CLI

Opps - thats a bug! I moved erland's plugin to the recommended repo
from the other repo and now it can't be seen! Will fix.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-09-24 Thread gharris999

Well, my linux experience so far has had me never needing to touch
/proc/acpi/wakeup...except when I was trying to get WOL working with Via
boards with the Rhine nic/driver. If I remember correctly, I went round
and round with these sorts of settings and never did get it to work
consistently. Since this issue is hardware linux specific, this
discussion could conceivably retire to the linux or 3rd party hardware
forum.

The OP is right, though. I ought to have some links devoted to WOL
troubleshooting in the documentation.

Bug 14251 which will be fixed in the next nightly version of 7.4.0

The issue was that the recommended repo was not added to the list of
repos which the server would search for applets. Hence by moving the
applet to make it recommended it dropped off the menu :(

Cool. Thanks!

But another thing: Does this mean I have to re-install the applet every
time the unit updates (i.e. every day right now)?
Or was the uninstall also due to the repo change?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Daylight clock for Controller/Touch/Radio

2009-09-24 Thread Triode

I'm afraid you need to reinstall applets. Applet installer will
remember which ones were installed, so you just go to the top menu of
applet installer and select install/remove to get them all back.

This was a decision taken to avoid old applets causing a lock up after
an upgrade if they turn out to be incompatible with the new version. It
could be improved by automatically reinsalling them, but then this could
trigger the problem we are trying to avoid. Suggestions in this area
would be useful on the user experience.

A useful release management?
For example something like the MinVersion/MaxVersion thing?
Now add a way of letting betas have a LOWER version number (e.g.
through an internal release number) and an applet can tell what it was
tested against.

With the frequency of FW updates in the Squeezeplay-World this will
probably render Applets useless otherwise. Just imagine having different
FW versions between SC and SN (which is very common for people not
permanently updating their server), will every switch delete all Applets
then?

Yes I think this is needed too.. It does not exist at present. There
is an internal api version but its not been used in practice and so I
think changing it to be a version number comparison would be betted.

Yes that's possible - the firmware version check will ask about an
update if the version is different or it is the same and the revision
number is newer. But it won't automatically install it.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Custom Clock applet for Touch/Radio/Controller

2009-09-24 Thread erland

The Custom Clock screensaver for Squeezebox Controller/Touch/Radio is
now ready for usage.

See the following wiki page for more information:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Custom_Clock_applet

It's installed by going to Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer on the
Touch, Radio or Controller. In the Applet Installer you will find a
Custom Clock applet which you need to install. You will in Squeezebox
Server either check the Show all 3rd party plugins checkbox or
manually configure my repository, if you don't it won't appear in
Applet Installer.

Finally, you will need to select Custom Clock as screensaver on the
Touch, Radio or Controller.

It has a setting menu under Settings/Screen/Custom Clock where you
can select:
- which style to use for the image
- what kind of time and date information to show
- select if you like to show information about currently playing track
or not

Some screenshots follows below.

PLEASE NOTE!
It's very easy for me to add new custom styles on user request, you
just have to create the necessary images. Since, I'm not a good
graphical designer myself I'd really like help to add more styles by
someone that's good at graphical design.

In the digital mode there are two possible images:
- The background image
- The clock face image

In the analog mode there are five possible images:
- The background image
- The clock face image (Can be sized so it fills the complete screen or
have the same size as the hour/minute/second hand images)
- The hour hand (Needs to be a square image with the hand starting in
the middle and going straight up)
- The minute hand (Needs to be a square image with the hand starting in
the middle and going straight up)
- The second hand (Needs to be a square image with the hand starting in
the middle and going straight up)

It's appropriate to create the hand and clock face images with the
resolution 240x240, this will fill the complete width on a Squeezebox
Controller and the complete height on a Squeezebox Radio.

Some sample images from the standard clock applet in the 7.4 firmare:
- Clock face:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/jive/7.4/trunk/squeezeplay/src/squeezeplay/share/applets/QVGAportraitSkin/images/Clocks/Analog/jive_wallpaper_clock_analog.png
- Hour hand:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/jive/7.4/trunk/squeezeplay/src/squeezeplay/share/applets/QVGAportraitSkin/images/Clocks/Analog/clock_analog_hr_hand.png
- Minute hand:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/jive/7.4/trunk/squeezeplay/src/squeezeplay/share/applets/QVGAportraitSkin/images/Clocks/Analog/clock_analog_min_hand.png

Post in the 3rd party plugin section of the forum and mention Custom
Clock in the title of the thread if you have made some images you like
to be added as a style.

I'm using your multi-library plug in (7.4 beta version) to create
separate libraries, 1 of my music, 1 of my wife's. I've also installed
the 7.4 beta version of custom browse. Is it possible to shuffle or use
random play w/in each separate library? If so, how? Thanks.

You will need SQL Playlist and Dynamic Playlist plugins to do this.
However, I don't think there is a predefined template available yet, so
you may have to customize the SQL from a suitable playlist to accomplish
it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: FindArt plugin beta

2009-09-24 Thread bpa

Can you check that in your cache you have a file called basic.html and
it has sames permissions and ownership as other plugin files.

The basic.html should have a path something like
Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/FindArt/HTML/EN/plugins/FindArt/settings/basic.html.
Check the path and also pay attention to the capitalisation.
