Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2011-10-25 Thread David Zuckerman

I can't get the temperature from either the Weather Channel or Weather
Underground to display as of a few hours ago. Anyone else seeing
this?

I've plugged in a few different wunderground.com weather station codes,
in addition to leaving that field blank and using my local weather.com
code, but all I see is a degree symbol and no numbers.

Hi Flatterman,

You have a great, and unique, business opportunity in the upcoming

The official Logitech app will not run on this device.

This means no need for a mobile phone to control the Squeezebox server,
and the watch is the wrist most always! Amazing really.

Why did I ever buy TWO Squeezebox Duet controllers...?!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] The perfect Android based Squeezebox remote

2011-10-25 Thread Gadgety1

We just got a SonyEricsson Xperia Mini Pro generation II Android phone.
Running the official Logitech android app (so perhaps this should not
go under 3rd party software) it is just the perfect remote control.
I've got two Duet controllers to compare with. It's small enough to
carry with you at all times, and it has a tiny keyboard for search etc.
The only disadvantage is the screen orientation of the official Logitech
android app seems to be portrait exclusively. Would be nice if it went
into landscape automatically when opening the keyboard on the Xperia
Mini Pro.

The previous generation called X10 Mini Pro is on sale everywhere.
Quite cheap, and ought to be just as useful, although the screen is
plastic. Could be worth the money just as a remote, even if you don't
need it as a phone.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: YouTube Plugin

2011-10-25 Thread mh_

Hello Triode,

Thanks a lot for your wonderful plugin!
May I have a request to add an option to run the whole youtube channel
as a playlist? Suppose I go to My Apps - Youtube - Channel Search -
e.g. UKF Dubstep - I have a list with all entries, which is nice, but
it's quite a laborious task to add entries one by one to player's
playlist.
A play functionality for the whole channel would be very convenient.
The same would apply to youtube playlist search.

I hope it's possible to implement this.
Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,
mh

2011-10-25 Thread IanCHC

I have had trouble with live vs listen again for some months now. I have
not made much progress on working out what is going on. Currently, I
have two squeeze servers running, both with up to date i-Players. Both
are on the same network behind the same Forefront firewall. One plays
live but no listen again and vice- versa

Live playing server has Prefer WMA streams as its only setting

Listen again playing server has everything but prefer WMA enabled
(native AAC, Flash AAC, Flash MP3 and Show Live Text).

Anyone any thoughts?
(Other than the obvious try some other combinations - which I have
tried before and I am not convinced that without resetting everything
that just switching check boxes always gives the same result i.e.
previous state may alter the result).
Ideally, I'd like to use one server for both.
By the way, the external firewall does not reference either

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Bandcamp, Pluggin, App, Store ?

2011-10-25 Thread Michael Herger
Look here , mr herger himself made a plugin (in his spare time) for this
it's not anounced anywhere , but it exists .

Now You know what I did last week-end!... It's not ready for prime-time.

I'm thrilled to see that Michael can still get so enthusiastic that he
makes pet project for the squeezeboxes, even if it is his work.

As many of my plugins this one grew in my interest in its solution :-). I
like quite a few of the artists on bandcamp.com, have alread bought a few
albums before I even knew they had an API.

web-UI is the interface where shopping would work naturally, so imo he
seems to have fulfilled the user agreement, you can shop the albums and
you be linked directly to the artist page when using a browser

One of their conditions to get a dev key for the API is to link back to
their site. Showing the album URL on the player doesn't make much sense,
but it's one of their conditions... As the artists on bandcamp.com are
mostly independent artists, I think it's worth supporting them by buying
their work if you like it. All I've found so fare provide lossless flac.

Enjoy! As you said: I don't have much time to spend on it. I squeezed a
few nightly hours in to it to get something started. Their API isn't very
rich yet either (for the tag search and browsing I'm scraping their web
page once again...). But please feel free to post your ideas and comments.
There will be a time when I've caught up with my sleep, and I'll spend a
few more hours working on it :-).

it's has no bizzare side effects it does not disturb anything else on

Anyone feeling it's to rough yet can simply uninstall untill such time
you have refined it some more.

I have in the last 2 weeks bougth some 15 albums and EP's from
bandcamp I think .

Bandcamps bussines model is so simple and straightforward artist set
their own prices you buy directly from artist, bandcamp get thier %
Download in FLAC, ALAC or mp3 done ?
They are not a record company or a store in any traditional sense, they
offer a very simple service for the artist to market and sell
themselves.

This also means that it is the artist who own and is responsible for
the content.

Soundquality varies but most artist seems to actually produce much
better sound than mainstream record companies :P fascinating , there is
no one standing ever their shoulder and tell them to make it louder to
fit some top100 ambitions.

And yes buy the music

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2011-10-25 Thread IanCHC

Because it just happened that way.

I had a single squeezebox server and I was unable to reliably get both
live and listen again to work reliably for some time. After one of the
BBC format changes some months ago I started having trouble (with my
original squeezebox server). I tried to follow advice about AAC, flash
etc. in the forums and posted a few questions but often found I needed
to the restart the server before I could get one of the services to
start and was always changing the check boxes but with (from my view)
unpredictable results.

As the machine running the squeezebox was a heavily used workstation
that has had hundreds of things installed on it at various times and
has had seen several updates to squeeze server, i-player etc. I decided
to build a brand new clean Windows 7 dedicated virtual machine with
nothing else on it; then install a brand new squeeze server and apply
the latest i-player plugin and leave everything with default settings.

I was somewhat disappointed to find that when connected to this server
I couldn't get live - it appears to start and sometimes flashes
buffering 2% or 3% (never more) before remaining stuck on connecting
[this is the one that has all but WMA checked].

Since I had a system in which changing library allowed me to have live
or listen again (and this is quite easy on the radio - less so on my
SB3s) I decided to live with it since I had now got back to where I was
6 months ago (with my original server) in that I can now hear either
which is much better than what I had before.

Ideally, I'd have one server by I am loathed to change anything and get
back to frustrating scenario I had most of the summer.

In particular, I am nervous of making I don't feel I understand what
the various option actually do- in that I don't have a matrix in my
head of pros, cons, radio program type and actual low level protocols
associated with each of the options.
e.g. I still don't understand why I should need the choices - isn't
there just a correct configuration fora UK user?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan: WMA Tags

2011-10-25 Thread godIsInTheRadio

Hello Erland,

just one thing I discovered with Custom Scan:

I use foobar2000 for tagging. WMA Custom Tags get tagged in the format
foobar2000/RSTOP500RECS in wma files, whereas flac, mp3 tags are stored
just as RSTOP500RECS.

Therefore I made a custom scan rule: RSTOP500RECS=oneof
RSTOP500RECS|foobar2000\/RSTOP500RECS (also tried without the backslash
for escaping) - to no avail. Tags are also listed as tags to scan and
single value tags

Is there any issue with reading tags containing special chars in their
name?

Regards, Marcus

What version of SBS are you using ?

There was a bug with HTTP/AAC (not Flash/AAC) streaming in 7.6.0 and
7.6.1 which resulting in erratic playback if SBS had to transcode an
AAC stream such as for SB3, Boom, Transporter etc.

This is unlikely to be the source of your problems but it might be
complicating things.

and your suggestion sounds like a great idea to me (:

An option button saying automatically determine best setting or an
option Manually configure which then allows the current list of check
boxes.

Presumably this would make those of us with less clue immune to BBC
changes - either the auto detect just gets around it or the automatic
detect order could be tweaked for best behavior by an update?

Thank you for this - I pretty well only use my squeeze equipment with

You can trigger it manually from the Custom Scan settings page.

I think it should be triggered after a normal SBS rescan has finished
by default, but the standard SBS scanning will be reported as finished
while Custom Scan still continues to scan, to see the Custom Scan
scanning status you need to goto the Custom Scan settings page.

If you don't get it to work send me a file with these tags and your
customscan.prefs settings page which is stored in the SBS Preference
folder (you will find its location through SBS Settings/Information)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

Unfortunately I am not getting this plugin to work.

I am running Squeezebox Server on QNAP TS-119 with the latest QPKG of

2) Manually in the Squeezebox Server Plugin folder (v2.0.4)

But... the plugin cannot connect to the Spotify server:

What I have checked:

1) I can ping ap.spotify.com from my the TS-119 NAS.

2) I have checked permissions for folders and files used with this
plugin, and they all match the user and group used by all other
files in the SqueezeboxServer installation (in my case is ssods
ssods).

A strange thing observed is:

When this plugin is installed, the SSOTS status reports that the
Squeezebox Server is available on port 9005, which is the port setup in
the Spotify plugin for the helper app?
The Squeezebox Server is however available on port 9001 as it used to
be.

I will appreciate if someone could help.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] seeing an album cover more than once

2011-10-25 Thread Lapiovra

Hallo,
I have quite a few double-cd's, installes on the NAS.
And sometimes 5 or 6 CD's, which all belong to the same album (for
instance the nine symphonies from Beethoven).
When I am searching for an album on my apple Touch via 'Albums', I see
the same cover of these albums 4, 5 or 6 times appearing.
Isn't there in Ipeng a solution for this without placing all the music
files of these different CD's in one directory?

 A strange thing observed is:

When this plugin is installed, the SSOTS status reports that the
Squeezebox Server is available on port 9005, which is the port setup
in the Spotify plugin for the helper app?
The Squeezebox Server is however available on port 9001 as it used to
 be.

I will appreciate if someone could help.

 Jens

You really need to completely remove 2.1.0 and reboot the server, then
manually install 2.0.4 and possibly set the helper app port number to
something new. That debug is from 2.1.0 which may not work on an old
arm at present.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-10-25 Thread maxxfell

Many thanks to Triode for the fine work on this plugin. I've been using
it successfully on a linux x64 for a few weeks now. I decided, though,
that I wanted a low-power usage install, so tried squeezeplug on a
goflex. I have it working...almost.

I've done a manual install of 2.0.4.

If I just start squeezeboxserver, I have no helper app running and a
log that looks like this:

 [13:53:21.219255] main:362
 /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac
 2.0.4 started

 9005 cliport: 9090
[13:53:21.366719] main:412 Unable to create session: Initialization of
 library failed

If I start spotifyd manually, I can access spotify through the
squeezebox server web interface and play music. Plugin page still shows
helper app not running,though.

If I start spotifydnoflac manually, I get the same response as manually
starting spotifyd, but with no actual sound.

I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, but couldn't find a
similar problem looking back in the thread. Any help?

Ah ha! The cache was writeable by owner (squeezeboxserver) only, which

But
  chmod a+w /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache

Generally, I'm seeing a few more crashes in iOS 5 than I saw with
previous versions with the only real cause I can identify (but which is
hard to fix) being issues with frequently connecting and disconnecting
players on the server side or with certain types of connection losses
(to the server) which get the server into a mode where it bombs iPeng
with data but I believe that latter one should have become better with
the recent updates.

Generally, I'm happy about anything reproducible :) There's also an

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2011-10-25 Thread bpa

Since you are using 7.6.1 - HTTP/AAC is the normal live stream format
and so if the bug is affecting your servers - then you would find that
using WMA for live streams would deliver a more reliable service.

However the bug only affects transcoded AAC streams which means the bug
would not affect playing live HTTP/AAC streams on your SBRadio. So a
little more info on which combination of format AAC/WMA, server
old/new and player radio/SB3 - works or fails would be helpful as there
are 6 combinations.

I think this bug might explain the problems with live stream format -
upgrading to 7.6.2 would test this out. If so, then the listen again
format issue is a separate issue.

OK... here's an update: Temp/Humi from Weather Underground is not
working. But temp/humi from weather.com IS working fine.

I forgot that the FORMAT that's set on a per-player basis actually
defines whether the wunderground or weather.com information is
displayed. So I had to change my temp strings from %e to %t (for
example) to change the source.

Be that as it may, the wunderground info isn't working... and I can't
figure out why. I'll continue to try to look into this. I assume
there's been a small format change in the data from wunderground or
something similar.

Will MOG be a part of the firmware or a separate plug-in, like what
 exists for Spotify?

If you're running your own server (SBS), then it'll be part of the next
release, LMS 7.7. If you're relying on mysb.com then you won't have to do
anything. It'll appear in your app gallery.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Just Covers plugin

2011-10-25 Thread aubuti

It's Genre Album. The sort order appears to use the same setting
(cookie?) that is already set for Albums browse (eg,
Artist/Year/Album), and the plugin includes the same drop-down in the
lower left corner for changing the sort order. If you change the sort
order in Just Covers it gets changed to the same thing in regular
Albums browse, too.

I don't know about the choice of album art at the genre level, but it
appears that a disproportionate number of them are taken from the last
album listed when you drill down to albums.
