I can't play from Spotify either. I got a notice on the Spotify app on
my Mac to the effect that the terms of service have changed - maybe
there's a change that affects the LMS plugin.

MP3 is irrelevant for On Demand - it's just code reusing the same set of
option for live.

I have found the change BBC have made and while testing a new version of
BBCiPlayerEXtra. The interesting item is that Weds R2 program are only
available in DASH and Flash/AAC - no HLS. This shows another change
which has broken another part of the plugin. I'm not sure what is going
on.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify app + protocol handler - no remembered user

2016-11-03 Thread SamCritch

Hi,

I have a Synology NAS which is running Logitech Media Server, the
Spotify and Protocol Handler apps are installed, and my player is a SB
Classic. I can't hear any Spotify music on the player, but I can see
e.g. my list of Spotify playlists in the Spotify app on the player, and
I can play music from my music collection. When I fill in the Spotify
username and password details in the settings for the Protocol Handler
app, the password doesn't seem to be saved, and I get an error in the
log saying "no remembered user".

I've tried rebooting the NAS, upgrading to the beta LMS, opening up port
9005 to the NAS etc etc, but I still can't get it to work. Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance,

Sam

It does seem a bit hit & miss though.

I must admit I've run into rather erratic results, too. Even literal
hits (both track title and artist name) would throw up totally wrong
results. I'm using their "lyrics direct" call which is the quick and
easy way to get results, but doesn't give me an option to tweak the
results. If I used other calls, I'd see that sometimes the literal hit
would only be second match. Why so I have no idea. Maybe my q'n'd wasn't
good enough... What a pity. Would have been too good to be such an easy
implementation :-).

Yes, I did have Flash enabled. I also have MP3 enabled (probably there
is no point in that, but I may have wanted it at some earlier time) and
it seems that the choice of settings currently does not have any options

OK - Extra got led down a dead end not sure why (possibly a recent BBC
change) but in this dead end the only audio is an old Flash format which
talks about a competition being closed.

Since late 2015 BBC are not creating any new "Listen Again" programs in

Playing a program has two steps
(i) Find content - BBCiplayer finds content from BBC 7 day feed.
BBCiPlayerExtra find programs from unofficial feeds and can access 30
day or more content. Once content is found (i.e.an URL) - both plugin
pass the URL to a 2nd part of BBCiPlayer to play.
(ii) BBCiPlayer 2nd part implements playback of Flash, DASH and HLS.
The playing part takes an iplayer:// URL and decides which format to use
and then plays it. This part of plugin also obtains metadata - again
independent of format.

BBCiPlayer uses an official BBC feed - Extra uses unofficial feeds (i.e.
old offical feed now unsupported or raw web page info) which means BBC
can change format as they wish. I expect the Extra to die completely
sometime as BBC are slowly changing the web interface underpinnings to a
more secure private feed.

At one point there was a difference in audio quality so user preferred
DASH but I think now both use the same AAC content.

Main difference between DASH and HLS:
(i) I can't update HLS as I don't have any reference player so no new
BBCiPlayer feature on HLS
(ii) 1.5.x DASH can use HTTP/1.1 with a single TCP connection per stream
whereas HLS will still use HTTP/1.0 with a TCP connection (and DNS
lookup) per 6 sec chunk. This can result in rebuffering in live streams
at busy time.

Mac user here, OS 10.12.1, LMS 7.9.0.

I keep the Superdatetime folder, as downloaded from Boomx2 on this

Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/.

Recently, whenever I reboot the computer, SDT vanishes from that folder
and, therefore, from LMS.

As a workaround, I can of course download it again, put it in the
folder, and get it back and working, but obviously something is not
right.

Any suggestions?

I have never seen this problem.

Difference between 1.4.7 and 1.4.9 relates to DASH only and cures
problem where stream will not start at all.

If you are using HLS - I really cannot help as I have no Apple system to
act as reference players. HLS works by having a master playlist for
eachprgram which has many URLs each 6 secs long. For Listen Again this
playlist is read once and all the URL should be valid. Each URL is
fetched and played insequence. If data is not available from an URL
plugin will try again. So your problem sounds like a BBC issue.

What sort of "improvement" happened - How often does rebuffering happen
? Is rebuffering event less frequent ?, Are there fewer rebuffering
evenet, Is stream fast to start, Is there gap at start audio , quiet and
then audio again ?- without better characterisation of the problem it
cannot be understood.
Does it ever occur on Listen Again ?
What is the "Live stream preference" Setting ?
When "Live Stream preference" is set to HLS - do you get the same
problem ?

What security s/w are you using ? Are the socketwrapper and LMS server
executable exclusions and/or makred as trustworthy.

Your problem could be a combination of Boom wifi issues and the Windows
transcoding issues so there is a need to checkout other AAC streams and
whether Radio shows same problem if transcoding. Can you run the
following tests
1. Play an AAC stream on Boom such as
http://www.somafm.com/illstreet32.pls - does it play without
rebuffering
2. Disable "native" AAC under WebUI/Setting/ Advanced/Filetypes, click
Apply and then play BBC live streams on Radio - do you get rebuffering ?

3. On Boom using Settings/Information/Network Test what is highest
throughput you can get with 100% - each test should last at least 3
mins. Start testing at 500k .

"Select task failed" occur when a program stops or a packet is slow (>
20 secs) in replying . These message do not indicate anyhting "bad"
Single Long chunk time message is OK as it is only 3 secs and not enough
- if you get multiple then problem is at the BBC. Long packet time (>
800ms) happen at least once a day especially at busy time typically
between 4.00pm and 7.00pm but also less frequent early morning
7.00am-9.00am - this is a "BBC" issue.

>From other user reports of 1.4.9 - rebuffering has been very common on
Windows systems. One possible cause with using HTTP 1.0 and this is
what 1.5.x fixes. Clearing up the HTTP/1.0 vs HTTP/1.1 issue with 1.5.x
showed up another issue relating to transcoding using socketwrapper
which only happens on Windows. 1.5.1 address this socketwrapper issue.
It is possible there is yet another issue and with enough information
hope to reproduce on my systems.

For comparison. my setup includes:
ISP link is Eir 10/1.
Local LAN - test machine are connected to router through Powerline and
Wifi and switches - so lots of network stuff with potential for
problems.
I can reproduce similar problem on old laptop running XP 1.5Mhz single
core 2Gb ram - the "socketwrapper" rebuffering problem goes away using
1.5.1 with delay at 2 min for 48k and 1 min for 96k
No problems on a newer Win7 laptop with 8Gb Ram and core i5 which had
some problems on 1.4.9 due to HTTP/1.0
No problem on an Ubuntu system. core i5 and 16Gb ram.
Players Boom, receiver, Radio and Touch.
I get rebuffer issues only Boom occassionaly regardless of source but
will be most noticeable on internet streams.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2016-11-03 Thread danco

I must admit to being a bit confused as to what the best settings are,
and what problems can occur. I am in the UK and always use Listen Again,
not Listen Live.

Today I got the following.

Using iPlayer. Programs seem to run for the first few seconds and then
stop.

Using iPLayer Extra (Radio 2 for Wednesday) I selected a program in the
normal way, but when I tried to play it I got a message "Competition
entries have closed" and not the program itself. This happened with
several programs, though Radio 4 worked fine.

My settings are HLS>DASH for iPlayer, and the checkbox marked for
iPlayer Extra (Select if you do not want Dash).

iPlayer is 1.4.7 and Extra is 1.9.3. Using a Mac, otherwise I might have
tried the latest version of iPlayer.

Maybe it is time to change to put DASH first rather than HLS.

And while I'm posting can I mention an issue that comes up from time to
time that seems different from the rebuffering that people experience. I
understand about the six-second chunks. It seems that occasionally the
playing gets stuck and after a chunk has been played it just goes back
to the start of the chunk, not actually playing anything but counting
down for six seconds and then back to the start of the count repeatedly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2016-11-03 Thread sota

I mainly noticed it on listen live. I have changed "Seconds to delay
start of live stream" to 2 min as you suggested, and this made a big
improvement. However, it still rebuffers every few minutes. This is what
I see in the logs:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2016-11-03 Thread Michael Herger

If the track doesn't have Lyrics, does your plugin retrieve them and
save them ? "cause when I click on Lyrics when they aren't there all
that displays is "HASH(0x95dbfe0)" - well it displayed twice while I
was testing.

No, it doesn't save them. And that message you get is a bug. I'll fix that.
