Is it technically impossible to implement the Spotify Web API on the
older Squeezeboxes or is it just that no one's had the time to do it
yet?


We already use the Web API. But it's not for playback. It's only the 
browsing, discovery, metadata handling etc. As soon as it comes to 
playback there's little options. Officially supported (by Spotify) is 
only Spotify Connect - which is not publicly available.

I've tried using YT on my iphone7 and it worked. Could not figure out

- new buffering which should work better in congested networks
- additing sparc (thanks chincheta0815) and armv5 (thanks ralphy) 
- volume changes made on LMS are now mirrored on airplay device

Afaik thats in the Radio itself the disco sound resides there . Did not
Bluegaspode (SqueezePad) did some faulttracing around the Radios
notoriously flaky alarm behaviour . Wonder if not the alarm routine
watch out if actual sound is common to wake you up if your stations
plays silence ?

I screwed some builds including the armv5. I've now updated that and
hope it works (I don't have such platform to test). I've renamed all my
armv5 build to armv5te and they all contain a soft floating option wiht
is (normally) used when hard floating is not available. Of course,
that's probably not making sense for AirPlay due to CPU requirements,
but all my other plugins use very little floating point operations. In
your case, it shoulds use the FPU and work fine.

Unfortunately Album Information don't work, I get always the message
"Tut mir Leid, konnte keine relevanten Informationen finden."

But "Interpreten-Information" works perfekt for all Albums I have tested
with Qobuz.

So, is this suggesting that before long we won't have any working
Spotify implementation? That would be incredibly disappointing...


Hard to tell, I don't have any additional information. libspotify has 
been deprecated for years. Maybe they don't actively render it obsolete, 
but no longer update it, breaking features as they develop elsewhere. 
Maybe they're shutting down certain functions only to motivate people to 
move on. Maybe it's just a bug on their end they don't care about 
because this is deprecated.


So there's hope that the playback will continue to work, while they 
won't fix that playlist issue.

DASH is an alternative transport format for BBCiPlayer and is part of
the settings - this is detailed in the post for 1.5.2

Why do you need a new version of LMS ?

It sounds like by changing the plugin default settings you have created
an incompatible configuration (I.e.forcing Extra to play Flash which is
no longer available on BBCiPlayer Live or Listen Again ) .

AFAIK Nothing happened yesterday that should have stopped yourBBC
iplayer 1.3 from working - so I'm guessing something else (i.e. non BBC
or BBCiplayer plugin)  happened on your system and by installing new
version and hten chaging settings - you have added more problems.

You need to provide more details on your .
1. What sort of player are you using ?
2. Can you play AAC streams without problems (e.g.
http://www.somafm.com/illstreet32.pls ) 
3. What are the current settings of BBCiPlayer and BBCiPlayerExtra

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Iplayer problem on Nas4free

I'm running LMS 7.7.3 on Nas4free (freebsd) on an old server with only
1gb ram.

Everything has been running fine since the last BBC debacle, I've been
running 1.3.? and not sure which iplayer extras but from the same time. 
Since yesterday I can't get iplayer plugin to work, but iplayer extras
working fine.

I logged into the forum and saw the new releases, so I updated to
iplayer 1.5.2 and extras 1.9.5

Now I can only get Extras to work if I check the disable dash box.  
I've left the iplayer setting as default and the live stream works but
listen again does not work.  

It says this in the LMS log file

They moved for a good while.

IIRC Triodes plugins have been moved and are now included as part of
standard LMS 3rd party plugins but iPlayer 1.3* is very out of date.

My repos also moved a good while and most plugins are also part of
standard LMS 3rd party plugins so npo need to know the repos.

For BBCiPlayer - BBC changes means you could try  An update test version
of BBCiplayer plugin is

No any squeezebox I have boom,radio,Touch,Squeezelite but not the actual
iPad . And iPeng on the phone is not on when not used

I have the periodic polling now working - and am getting the data back
from the radio station web site (annoyingly it is about a minute behind
- and have not checked to see if that is LMS caching, someone else
caching, or remote site being out of sync).
However, my updated metadata is not appearing on player screen.

I have taken code from elsewhere and it may well be relying on something
that I have not set-up correctly.
But ... would you expect that track info to update when this is done?

Ok, the search window losing focus is a known issue if for some reason
the menu gets reloaded. I'll have to look at that, I think it's probably
solvable by making search a more regular main menu position.

The duplicate players is something I have occasionally seen, too, since
I didn't have other reports I thought it might be due to my test setup.
And yes, now that you mention it it might be related to 7.9
Im only seeing it with iPeng as a player, never Squeezeboxes or other
devices and I think it's only on the device acting as a player itself
(so if your iPhone is the duplicate player it will only show in iPeng on
that same iPhone). Is that what you see, too?

Yes, it's definitely the Squeezeplay interface (squeezebox, squeezepad
and ipeng tested here).  We pretty much only use those so it would be
great if this worked.  I'm not familiar with the codebase but I might be
able to help if I'm pointed in the right direction.

I think the 595 this corresponded with a break in internet connection
and so radio stopped - as expected. Timeout periods are not quite what I
expected. Radio must have receovered playing after 596 as the segment
number 231980270 in the 596 error and the succeeding segment number in
later errors are higher (231980316) - by expected amount (diff of 46 =
about 5mins)

One old thing .

I've always thougth this was a user eror intill read a similar post .
The menu "falls back to genres or artist or something" ?

For example i do a search for an artist , see the artist tap on the name
and I'll see the artist album , but then *sometimes* like magic iPeng
reverts to some basic place ? if I just put my finger in the search
field again the artist is suddenly back as soon as the keyboard appears
? Then I may stick when I hide the keyboard or I do it twice .

One new thing .

I see double players one or two can decide to have twins . After I've
been away for while , when I get home from work for example.

If select the players back and forth a couple of times it fixes itself .
When I'm constantly active during the evening it does not happen .

This new thing may be triggered by me having an even newer 7.9 on a new
OS Linux mint 18 with perl 5.22.1

I don't believe my old 4s was running Ipeng 9 as I was fearful of
updating the ios thinking it would slow it down to being near unusable. 
In any case, my player for that room is now a hacked pogoplug running
squeezelite.  There is no screen but the player is always on and
available.  Whenever I long for a screen I usually set up an ipad
running Ipeng controlling the player and set it to never sleep.  I
usually do this for parties so people know what is playing.  A fixed
install mode would hopefully directly address issues related to leaving
an i-device plugged in at all times and remaining connected to the
server.  It might require too much work to build correctly so I
understand if it isn't high on your list of things to do but if you are
looking for ideas...Ipeng remains my most used third party app on my
iphone and I am very grateful it continues to get updates.

OK.  To get HTTP 1.1/ with persistent TCP functionality I used a 3rd
party module - it looks like I haven't told the module correctly to
shutdown and there are still timers running.

The alarm was triggered at 6.00am so played normally for 45 minutes
before playback stopped. I see interruptions when playback is started
manually as well. I have just moved the router slightly and the reported
wireless signal strength at the Radio has increased from 73% to 98%.
Maybe that will help.

Are all these timeout problems related by using alarm to initially play
the stream ? It seems to be an alarm interaction.  I have found when
trying to play an alarm first thing after a system (and associated
network) been unused overnight - some parts of network are in low power
modes and often first try to connect across network doesn't work. I've
had to turn off "low power" on router and homeplug devices to avoid
this.

I'm wondering how alarms knows no audio playing to play disco sound ? 
Since plugin is not closed - it is still running in background when
alarm starts the disco music.

One of the interruptions this morning was at 6.45 during the alarm
period. I turned off the alarm when the disco sound started and
restarted the radio stream. I have now checked the server log and see
this

I've tried both versions, the non-static and the static.  There is no
Terminal-App for the Synology so I could do that via SSH or telnet. But
so far I haven't found out which process to kill/start. What do you mean

Hmm it definitely was not 5 minutes. I can't understand why the log

Timeout can be changed  it is matter of finding out which one is
expriing for you.

Can you double check what the duration felt like ? - it is 30 sec or 300
secs ?  Your logs looks like 35 or 27 ms ms - which is about 300
sec or 5 mins.

In the plugin I have set one timeout to 20 secs and left another at the
module default which is 300 secs or 5 mins. I don't recall having the 5
min one expire and you log shows a 596 type error - I think I only ever
had 595 type timeout errors.  I wonder if this could be the error the
BBC engineer was compaining about.

I know the issue.  It is specific to the Squeezplay class of user
interface (i.e. not WebUI and not old IP3K SB players). It is on the
todo list (near the bottom as it wasn't requested for many years) and
had thought about it when doing 1.09 but it looked like there was no
quick fix so fix didn't make it to 1.09.  It is an area of LMS that I
don't know well and IIRC the plugin was written before some parts of LMS
API were improved - so there is a question of rewriting a lot of code to
fix this one point.

I'll try to look at it as it seem there has been a resurgence of
CDplayer downloads.

MIME type of the Captial, Absolute stream may be not be defined in conf
file or perhaps even wrong (some broadcasters mark them as byte/octet
stream or ordinary mpeg stream which are ambiguous) .

Give examples of working and non working so they can be checked.

The plugin does knows when a timeout occurs and it should just continue
after the 30 secs wait. It does not stop for me - now I understand your
persistence. Strange.
For reference what is your setup OS, LMS version, processor, player etc.


I'll try to run some test later and see if I can reproduce.

It works and shuts down when the stream is stopped so no need to use
third party versions of ffmpeg with raspbian jessie. However, I cannot
choose hls  streams from Tunein options for Capital, Absolute or X which
seems odd as hls is in the url.

Apologies for butting in here but I recall an issue with uPnP generally
a while ago that I need to read up on. Specifically it was where
someone's TV was flooding LMS with uPnP requests and they had to switch
something off to get LMS to respond correctly. Does anyone know where
that thread appeared ? I have searched but drawing a blank.

Does the plugin "know" that playback has stopped in these circumstances?
I can restart the stream manually immediately without waiting for the
timeout. If the plugin could restart the stream automatically or the
timeout was shorter these stoppages would be less annoying.

Thanks for the reply, Philippe. 

I'm told perl can't be upgraded on the ReadyNAS Ultra due to the
FrontView UI's reliance on perl bytecode. While a newer perl version can
apparently be installed in parallel, I haven't a clue how I'd go about
getting the plug-in to use it –*I know little about Linux and even less
about perl. So it seems no ShairPlay for ReadyNAS Ultra devices... :(
