Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Squeezelite-X

2021-03-12 Thread dragosmanea

Hey! I am new to this software. I am starting to discover it because I
like it's sound. A little laid back and more 3D than Jriver used before.
I also like the Android remote.
So, I am using it o a W10 laptop, and I want to ask you a few
questions:

1. When I play DSD files, the DAC shows me it's maxim sample rate in
PCM, but not DSD. The checkbox: DSD Player is checked in the Plugins
page. When I play the same track in Jriver, the DAC shows DSD. What can
I do to play DSD files in DSD format?

2. I have a lot of albums in ISO format (DSD) and a lot in a big flac
file and a CUE file (PCM) in an album. Is there a way to play the tracks
independently? Jriver, Foobar, etc are showing and playing each track,
but not Squeezelite-X.

3. How do you describe the sound of SqueezeliteX versus Jriver or other
software? I just discovered SqueezeliteX a few months back, but it had
some problems playing Tidal. Now they play ok. My oppinion is that
Jriver has more power and dynamics, the sound is more "in your face".
Squeezelite is more laid back, it has less force, but the soundstage has
more depth and the sound is more 3D.

Thank you!

(1) This is strange, obviously. Is it a left-click or right-click on the
tray icon? Launching a web-browser first, and then things work, is
really weird, since SLX is independent of anything a browser might do.
I've looked through the code and I find nothing obvious and I'm not
aware of anyone else having this issue and I have never seen it and
can't reproduce it. What OS version are you running?

(2) Are you saying the tray icon goes to the hidden tray icon area after
a reboot? SLX does nothing to drive where that appears as it is a
Windows function. After an install/uninstall, it may get reset to
appear in hidden area, but once you move it to the visible tray it
should stay there (until a new install resets it).

Can you create mixes via the webinterface on port 10002 or start other
commands there? I guess your server is working, other users reported
this failure message before, see page 3, while the server was working
for them.
The server is not sent to the background, therefore your terminal is
blocked, that is normal as well and you have to kill the server or close
the terminal to stop it.
You should create a start-script and register the server as system
service described in the tutorial or in more details on page 3

afriend,

Thanks for your quick reply and explanation.

Your quick patch (1.8.2) doesn't show up in the list of available 3rd
party plugins, perhaps because Ratings Light (v1.8.0) shows up in the
list of Active Plugins even though it is accompanied by the "Plugin
failed to load" Description.

Maybe if I deleted the Ratings Light v1.8.0 entry from the list of
Active Plugins, the 1.8.2 would show up in the 3rd party plugins. But, I
don't know how to go about deleting the Active Plugins entry (or if that
would be of any help at all).

I'll take at look at the github entry and see if it seems like something
I could manage without making a mess of things :)

Log messages much appreciated.
The reason why this didn't show up here is because you're running Perl
5.32 and all my systems run 5.18.4. When I find the time I'll have to
test the plugin against 5.32.
All I could do for today is release a quick patch (1.8.2).
Please let me know if that fixed the issue. If not I'll try to look into
it as soon as I can. As a temporary workaround you could download and
install the -previous- version from '*github*'

Hi.

After attempting to install the "Ratings Light" v.1.8.0 plugin, the
"Active Plugins" section of the Plugins tab on LMS shows Ratings Light
(v.1.8.0) in the "Name" Column, while the "Enable" column shows an
unchecked box, and the "Description" column shows "Plugin failed to

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2021-03-12 Thread benh

First, I've been a happy iPeng user for many years. It's a key part of
my music ecosystem and I could not live without it.

I use iPeng at home over Wifi to control my various LMS players.
Generally, I do not play music from my phone via bluetooth at home.

In the car, I DO use Bluetooth to play music to my car stereo, and my
phone automatically connects to my car. However, much of the time, the
music that comes up on the car stereo screen is my most recently
iPeng-controlled LMS player's last played song.

What's interesting is that it also *starts that player playing*, since
I'm still connected to my home Wifi.

So I get in my car and start it up, and music begins to play in the
house as I drive away.

I don't have playback enabled on iPeng, but it seems like iPeng is
showing up as a music source in my car, and I wonder if/how I can change
that behavior.

In v1.8.0 all (but one) Dynamic Playlist smart playlists will have an
option to play -all/play/unplayed- songs. And there are some -Don't Stop
The Music- mixes for unplayed tracks as well.
If you want a smart playlist where you can actually choose the
-percentage- of played/unplayed songs you could use 'this *\"un-played\"
playlist*' (https://github.com/AF-1/sobras). Just put it the playlist
folder of the -SQL Playlist- plugin, maybe restart LMS and use it with
the -Dynamic Playlist- plugin.

Actually I realized that when updating the instructions I lost the
installation of the binfmt.
Thus instead of "sudo apt-get install qemu"
It should be "sudo apt-get install qemu binfmt-support qemu-user".

The first page is updated and this problem should not re-occur

I have a queue in the right hand panel, and the 'now playing' on the

Another thought Scrobbling to last.fm is another place that has
support for multiple accounts.

It is simpler than this situation but rarely, if ever, see requests to
make it more controllable.

It has accounts set at system level and then is assignable to individual
players.

Wouldn't it be possible to create a separate menu item under Apps for
each account, e.g "Account Name's BBC Sounds"? That way you break any
association with a device and each account can use any device.

When you get mmserver working if you want to add the crontab entry to
restart the service every night you will probably find that the crontab
entries in the instructions don't work. I had to change them as shown in

Yes, that's a useful summary of the use cases involved. With only 2 of
the use cases I can support and 1 of those I think can only be supported
in a confusing manor.

Yes, completely agree. My current only option is to associate a player
with an account and make it easily changeable (unless I'm missing
something), that seems completely incompatible with the concept that
the controller is given a menu and should be able to switch player and
the menu still be applicable. As you say, there needs to be a "user"
concept to make that possible for the controller to understand the
account context of that menu.

Yet, Spotty users seem happy, so I'd be interested to hear users
experience of that ?

I think it would need to support both approaches to cover all cases -
with the extra challenge to make it easy for the right one to be chosen.

Single or multiple players - single listener
Single setting on LMS (as now)

Single player - multiple listeners (who care about it and listen
individually some times)
Default on LMS (or player) ... listener can override

Multiple players - multiple listeners
For some players (e.g. bedroom / office) would make sense to be able to
assign account based on player ...
For other players (lounge / kitchen / backyard) could have no default
and this could be prompt to controller to offer account selection (with
default)

Whilst I do not use any multi-account services, so not personally
affected by this, the idea that an account is linked to a device is (to
me at least) counter intuitive. Bit like LMS's virtual libraries, or
browse modes. I can see whay you might want to set a default account for
a device, so that (e.g.) a kid's device would have their setup and
account on the hardware-UI for that device. But in a modern systm where
you use 1 controller (e.g. Material, iPeng, Squeezer, etc) to control

accounts and send the account id, or whatever, with each request. I
guess ideally LMS needs a way to define users - then each user could

but would be (to me anyhow) more user-friendly.

It's the player that needs the account association as that's what is
playing. Your comment kind of illustrates my point, I can't think of a
way the concept makes sense in the context of the LMS topology. But
Spotty manages it, so I was wondering how that works?

Thanks for looking at this. Would it not make more sense to associate an
individuals account with an individuals device that they use for

Could Material store local settings on the device they have their

I've been having a look at supporting multiple BBC Accounts. Ie the
ability to add multiple accounts in settings, then associate different
accounts with different players.
The whole method of managing credentials and sessions needs an overhaul
to support it, so its quite a bit work. This has been a requested
feature for quite a while.

I've started doing the ground work, but now I look at it, I'm not sure
it works at all as a concept.

I know Spotty supports multiple accounts. I've never seen the multiple
accounts in action . How does it work on that?
What happens on the controllers (e.g. Material Skin), when you are
browsing within the spotty app with one player selected, then you
switch to another player that is associated with a different account.
It must be very confusing as the menu wouldn't change when you swap
players, but would be completely invalidated (or it would be on BBC
Sounds)?

Or does it not matter in practise that its confusing, as you only listen
to one player at a time, and users get used to checking what account is
currently selected on the player?

I didn't know there was a context menu from right clicking on the artist
image. I confirm it works on windows, useful.

Craig, a while ago, do you remember you made access to local files (if
present) easier (a local files option appears from the "..." menu when
an album is selected, if the the file is present).

Is it possible to make the "local files" available from the artist image

Sure it works, you have to use the eight mousebutton, it is a context
menu!

This works on Mac and PC without any problem!

As you know I have been using since virtually day 1.

I don't ever remember this working on Windows. A single click on cover
does nothing. A double click opens the cover.

PS. I have just tested with M$ Edge (which I never use) and Firefox and
it is the same as Chrome.

Works for me, Linux Firefox/Chromium.

Should it be the same?
I use Material on iPhone where the context menu from cover click works
but also in a PC Browser (W10 Chrome app) where it doesn't. I thought it
was a limitation of the PC version.

Use the context menu on the cover, this will allow you to go to the
artist, album, etc. The advantage of the context menu is that its the
same in mobile and desktop browsers. Not a fan of the links in the
queue...

Yes, because sometimes there is insufficient space - he star should have
a shaddow. Perhaps I could also add a semi-transulcent background...

Would it be possible to make the Artist and Album on the Playing screen
be links to their respective containers, like they are on tracks in the
Queue screen?

I sometimes find myself playing a playlist or a compilation and want to
follow the current track and while I can of course click Queue and
follow from there it would be more intuitive to go direct if possible.

I am only asking because they are poorly visible with some covers.
