Or maybe I'm losing my mind I tested it two more times today, now
with logging enabled, and both times DSTM successfully added tracks just
like it's supposed to (and how it has been working on other players).
I'll keep an eye on it, but right now things seem fine.

Yes, they're all using the same mixer setting.

On the logging, sorry for the dumb questions, but (a) do you mean
enabling the logging for DSTM, and (b) what level of logging do you need

[SlimDevices: Plugins] DSTM not working on 1 of 6 Squeezeboxen

2021-09-08 Thread aubuti

Thanks, Michael, for the great Don't Stop the Music plugin, which I
usually have set to use Spotify recommendations to add to the playlist.

The weird thing is that it doesn't add tracks to the playlist for one --
and only one -- of my six SBs. I've rechecked the DSTM settings, tried
turning DSTM off and back on again on that player, but no luck. The
player in question is an SB2, while it works fine on a mix of other
players (SB2, SB3, SB Receiver, SB Radio and Squeezelite-X app on my
Win10 machine). Fwiw, the server is running LMS 8.1.1 via piCore on a
Raspberry Pi 3B+.

Any ideas on what's going on, and better yet, a fix? Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Where can one download third party plugins?

2014-03-23 Thread aubuti

You don't download via the forum, you do it straight from LMS. It's
easiest if you activate the Extension Downloader plugin that comes
with LMS. Then within the LMS web interface you go to the Plugins tab
under Settings.

You will probably want to activate the Show all 3rd party plugins tick
box near the bottom of that page. Depending on which plugins you want
you may also need to specify the relevant repositories in the boxes
immediately below. If you don't see what you need after activating Show
all 3rd party plugins, check with the specific plugin developer about
whether you need to give the repository address, and find out what it
is.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to power off VFDs?

2014-02-06 Thread aubuti

There is a plugin that works with all the SBs with VFDs, not only the
Transporter. I think it's called AutoDim. If so, it's possible that it
no longer works with current server software (see
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?47857-Auto-Dim-not-working-w-7-01/).

Alternatively you could use Server Power Control to put your
devices-with-VFDs in off/standby, and set the VFDs to zero brightness
when off/standby.

But in either case it is probably as triode says, that is, it most
likely sets the brightness to zero, rather than actually cutting power
to the VFD.

underlying audio for volume normalization, but this is typically only
used on mp3 files, etc that one is using in a car player that doesn't

foobar2000 is indeed excellent for this, and so is dBpoweramp. On
dBpoweramp it is in the Batch Converter module, but when set up
correctly it doesn't really convert anything, it only adds the RG
tags. dBpoweramp isn't free, but there is a 30-day free trial, and it is
worth its modest price as a great ripping tool.

If the OP already has perl installed (eg, working on a *nix box) then
Robin Bowes has a nice script called apply_replaygain.pl that will go
through your library recursively and add track_gain and album_gain tags.
You can probably find it on robinbowes.com.

As for the question of -Which is best: to lift the lower gain FLACs up
to the highest level, lower the higher gain FLACs down to the lowest
level or to normalise to a certain level?-, all of this software sets
the tags to a certain reference level. Doing it relative to the highest
or lowest level in your library would be kind of bonkers, because (a) it
would have to analyze your entire library to find the highest/lowest
before writing the first tag, and (b) you'd potentially have to do it
all over again every time you added a track to your library.

Afaik there is no LMS plugin designed to do this specifically. It may be
possible to trick Erland's Custom Browse, SQLPlaylist, or Dynamic

How many albums do you want in your pick list? Either as an absolute
number or as a percentage of your collection?

Fwiw, when I want a random album I just blindly spin the wheel on the

Have you tried using the conventional method, via the Plugins tab on the
LMS web ui? Be sure you have the Extensions Downloader enabled first.

If you have already tried that and not succeeded, then the normal plugin
location is indicated on the Information tab under Settings on the LMS
web ui. I don't know about Synology locations, but on a standard Debian
install the 3rd party plugins go in
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins. But if the
Synology OS won't let you access the equivalent directory then you'll
need to get root access, and I don't know how to do that with a
Synology.

For the first of those, the business why is to make at least some
money for someone, be it SB hardware sales or Pandora subscription

which can be spoofed on at least some SB emulator software.

Re the second one, the story I always heard was that Pandora didn't
update their API to allow SB and others to stream at 192. Supposedly
always on their to-do list, but never got high enough.

Of course, Pandora will play on a lot of non-Logitech hardware. But not
when you're making that hardware emulate Squeezebox hardware via player
software like squeezelite. There aren't any 3rd party plugins that will
get around that, but aren't Pandora subscriptions something like
$36/year (10 cents/day)? If that's what your wife really likes it seems
like a good bargain to me.

If you want zero cost, I think Slacker has some themed stations that
play certain genres/sub-genres/similar artists. Not exactly like
Pandora, but the same idea. For that matter, doesn't Spotify offer
themed or similar artist stations?

I think you could turn off the plugin that gives you the convenient
Plugins tab -- I forget the name, but it's something like Download
Extensions. Then you would be back in old days of a few years ago,
when users (1) downloaded a zip file for a plugin, (2) unzipped it in
the correct location on the server, (3) restarted the server, and (4)
configured the plugin if needed.

Or, you could leave the plugin for the convenient Plugins tab in place,
and just overwrite the current version of the plugin with a previous
version, and restart the server. You would keep getting reminders that
there is a newer version available.

Overall, it works well - the flashing R is annoying, and I wish the

I tried Other Players, but it's more of a 5-step macro program - it
looks like it sends commands to the server to tell it what to do, as
opposed to being an interactive front-end for the player.

The hacker in me wants to keep playing, but the dad in me doesn't think

I may be wrong, but I don't think there's anything SliMP3-specific about
squeezeslave. It's just a headless player, so it likely doesn't have any
code for display.

I'm not clear why the behavior of Other Players sending commands to the
server is a problem, because that's exactly how the SB3 works as well.
When a fully-functioning SB3 receives an IR command it sends it to the
server, which then sends back a command that the SB3 can understand.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Guide to get good MusicIP mixes working

2012-07-31 Thread aubuti

Welcome to the forums, and glad to hear that you have MusicIP working
for you (well, more or less). I don't have a definitive answer for you,
but here are a couple things to try:

1) See what happens if you disable the Spicefly plugin. It's a fine
plugin, and really helped me get MusicIP set up. But now I don't use it,
and I don't have the mix problems you report.

2) Check your mix and variety settings, and how they compare to the same
settings in the Windows GUI program. Note that there are settings that
appear on the general MusicIP page (server_ip_address:10002 on the
headless version) as well as settings for individual players under LMS's
Settings Player MusicIP menu. I've never figured out how these
settings interact or which takes precedence. But try setting both of
them to the same settings you have in the Windows GUI and see if that
helps.

Good luck.

You probably already know how to rollback Erland's plugins, but if you
don't, it is easy and documented in these forums by Erland himself. I've
confirmed that it works, and I'll be happy to repeat it here and/or
provide a link if you want one.

Truth be told, I haven't bought a license for these plugins either. Back
when I ran the server on a NAS I would have paid for licenses for
Dynamic Playlist and SQL Playlist. But I stopped using them -- long
before they became commercial -- when I switched to an x86-based server
that could run MusicIP. So Erland's and cparker's plugins cost more than
they are worth to me, but I don't begrudge them the right to charge for
their work, or think that they led me on or deceived me in any way.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] displaying bitrate, codec etc in iPeng and Squeezepad?

2012-06-24 Thread aubuti

Sometimes when listening to tracks from music services like MOG or
Rhapsody I like to take a look at the reported bitrate. In the LMS web
interface this is shown in the right-side panel, but I can't figure out
where -- or if -- that information is available on iPeng or Squeezepad.
Any pointers?

And if that info is currently not available on one or both of those
great apps, please consider this a feature request. Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] displaying bitrate, codec etc in iPeng and Squeezepad?

2012-06-24 Thread aubuti

Thanks guys. All looks well on Rhapsody in both apps, including bitrate
and encoding info. But on MOG the results are a lot more mixed.

On one MOG album I was trying the long press on the Now Playing cover
image doesn't provide any context menu info in either app. It would seem
that on this one that MOG isn't sending info for this album. In
Squeezepad the context menu shows only track title. In iPeng it shows
various Lookup... , Search For Album, Search For Song Title, etc
options, but none of the album or track info.

BUT, for that same album (The Tel Aviv Session) if I go to the track
listing (not the Now Playing cover image) in either app I get the usual
info on the context menu (genre, duration, artist, On Amazon, etc),
although not bitrate or codec.

On a different MOG album, long pressing the NP cover image in either
iPeng and Squeezepad shows a context menu with most of the normal info
most normal context info, though no bitrate or encoding type on either.
On the LMS web ui it is showing 320k CBR MP3 for both this album and the
previous example with no metadata, but I wonder if that is just a
blanket (and potentially misleading) placeholder in LMS.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] displaying bitrate, codec etc in iPeng and Squeezepad?

I thought that some MOG was 320 and some was less, but I could be
getting that confused with Spotify. Maybe MOG doesn't send the bitrate,
although as garym says, where does the LMS web ui get it then.

But aside from the bitrate/codec question, I am puzzled why the apps
show the other metadata in a context menu from the track listing, but
not from the NP cover image's context menu. In other words, MOG is
delivering the other metadata, and whether the apps display it depends
on which context menu is called. Is that clearer?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlist Using File Folders

2012-06-23 Thread aubuti

You don't like Elvis with Wagner? The shows they did together at The
Apollo were the stuff of legends

Here is one thing you could try that wouldn't require much effort.
Forget about trying to restrict Dynamic Playlists to certain folders,
and stick with inclusion/exclusion by genre, which DP is set up to do
perfectly. You don't need to fix up all your classical tags, just the
genre, and you can even do that quick and dirty.

Open the classical folders in a good tag editor like mp3tag, which
should be easy if your folders are well-organized as you say they are.
Then either (a) delete the current random contents on the genre tags, or
(b) fill the genre with something simple that will not collide with your
pop/rock. For example, you could tag them all as Classical or even
Not for Dynamic Playlist. Then set Dynamic Playlist to exclude that
genre.

As always when doing mass tagging:
1) be sure you have a current backup
2) test operations on a small subset first to make sure it does what you
want
3) be sure you have a current backup

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softwar options on PCs

2012-02-01 Thread aubuti

By my recollection there is a reason why -You must be a subscriber to
use Pandora from this device.- is worded that way. The free (advt
supported) Pandora service works on hardware SBs, but for software SBs
you need a paid subscription.

And to answer cburbs Q on post #8, no you don't have to subscribe via
the software player. But you do have to have your subscription
credentials entered in mysqueezebox.com.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New mixes from same seed in MusicIP

2012-01-14 Thread aubuti

Where did you have the mix variety set to zero? In the global settings
(Settings Plugins MusicIP Settings) or in the player settings
(Settings Player [choose player] MusicIP)? Or in the MusicIP
headless interface (serverip:10002)? I just tried Variety=0 on each of
them individually and got different mixes from the same seed when I
generate the mixes from the LMS web interface. I'll ask again, what are
your Style settings?

Fyi, my style settings are:
server:10002: Artist Style = 3 (of 0 - 10)
MusicIP global: Mix Style = 120 (of 0 - 200)
MusicIP player settings: from 84 to 125 (out of 200), depending on
which SB

My Variety settings also are not the same across the different settings
pages, and to be honest I have no idea how the settings interact, or
which takes precedence when.

My understanding of Style vs Variety is pretty vague, and any attempt
by me to explain it would only be more vague. However,a quick search on
these forums turned up this nice post by Siduhe from about 4 years ago.

I always get different mixes using the same seed. Maybe if the seed was
from some very unusual track in my library I would start seeing
repeats. Are you getting the exact same tracks in the exact same order?
If so then something is seriously wrong with your setup, but darned if I
know what it is.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New mixes from same seed in MusicIP

What are your mix settings? And do you get the same results if you pick
the most common track among your library as the seed (ie, a track
that has a lot of musical similarities with other tracks)? If you
generate two different playlists with nearly polar opposites as seeds,
is there any overlap in the playlists?

I'm stumped, so I'm just fishing for some pattern or explanation here.

Actually, I think you have two options. Instead of getting a new NAS,

with the official Logitech Spotify plugin. I'm pretty sure that the

Hmm, for a variety of reasons I have not been using SvrPowerControl

sending a WOL packet when it was searching for a server. The SB's screen

Maybe there has been a change in the firmware, or maybe something else

disconnect the SB from either the network or the power supply?

What I was thinking of was leaving Just Covers as a single item on
the My Music menu, as it is presently, and adding an option on the JC

wanted Just Covers to do Genres Albums (current behavior) or simply
go directly to Albums. I have no idea how difficult it would be to add

Any chance you could add an option to go straight to Albums view,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Just Covers plugin

It's Genre Album. The sort order appears to use the same setting
(cookie?) that is already set for Albums browse (eg,
Artist/Year/Album), and the plugin includes the same drop-down in the
lower left corner for changing the sort order. If you change the sort
order in Just Covers it gets changed to the same thing in regular
Albums browse, too.

I don't know about the choice of album art at the genre level, but it
appears that a disproportionate number of them are taken from the last
album listed when you drill down to albums.

 Regards, Juergen
No, I understood your situation. If you configure SPC to trigger the
shutdown based solely on SB status, then it will do so even if you are
working at the computer. That is why it may be useful to use a
different shutdown criterion, such as idle disk IO threshold, idle
network IO threshold, or CPU load threshold. If you use one of those,
then SPC will not suspend the computer while you are working on it
(assuming you are at least meeting one or more of those thresholds),
even if the SBs are idle.

I repeat: what are your settings in the System Idle Monitor: section of
SPC's configuration?? Instead of assuming this or that, look at what
settings you are using.

I was afraid of that. Shame we can't merge the browsing ease of Napster
and Rhapsody with the sound quality of Spotify. How are things going on
the MOG front? ;-)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2011-07-26 Thread aubuti

I would give the so far a bit more time to make sure you can live with
7.6.0. If it continues to go smoothly for you, then yes, you can delete
the MySQL packages as long as you're not using MySQL for anything else.

Forgive the obvious question, but did you update the Dynamic Playlist
plugin as well? Also check to see if you need to update SQLPlaylist
plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2011-07-25 Thread aubuti

Take a look at the SPC configuration options and you'll see there are
various alternative thresholds that can be used for determining idle.
One can be using idle SBs as the only criterion, but other options use
network traffic, CPU usage and maybe hard disk activity. See which you
have set in your configuration.

Note that if you are running a really old version of SPC it only uses
SB idleness to trigger a suspend/hibernate action. The other options
were introduced several months ago.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Can't find the syncronizer

I'm pretty sure it's among the plugins that appear if you activate Show
all 3rd party plugins near the bottom of the Plugins tab on SBS
Settings. Do you have that setting activated?

I don't use Windows on my music server, so my view is no doubt biased.
Personally I wouldn't mind the extra 100k download for Windows tools
that I'd never use on Linux. Deleting the files is easy enough. I think
then it comes down to which is more difficult for Windows users (and
correlated with that, which takes more of your time to provide support
to those users): dealing with the long command line that results if the
tools are included in the package, or figuring out that the tools need
to be downloaded separately and installed. I don't honestly know.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Will the Spotify functionality improve?

2011-07-22 Thread aubuti

I've been a Napster for a couple years, and briefly used Rhapsody, and
the ability to easily add albums to my Napster or Rhapsody library
seems like a 'natural' feature that I find extremely useful. So I was
really surprised not to see anything similar in Spotify, even in the
Spotify player on Windows (and presumably Mac as well).

It seems that 'starring' an album or a track is the closest you can get
to putting something in a 'Spotify library'. Or am I missing something?
And with the Spotify plugins, is it even possible to star an album? So
far I've only been able to star individual tracks with either the
official plugin or Triode's.
