Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 3.x - Spotify Podcasts on your Squeezebox

2021-11-15 Thread Michael Herger

Was anything ever done to allow the Spotty listening port (or range of
ports) to be defined? I'm hitting the same issue as tbali - I want to
run the LMS behind a firewall and don't really want to open up the
entire 32000-65535 range.

You could give the --zeroconf-port a try. See

Fantastic! I also had the "jumping out of my seat when switching from
local files to Spotty" to the point that I had given up on using

Don't Stop the Music > Spotify Recommendations (based on the current
playlist).

Just tested the tip on disabling volume normalisation and it worked...no
longer making the exhausting 6-foot walk to adjust the volume on the
amp. :)

A bit counter intuitive but assume it is basically taking Spotify’s
normalisation with it on and with it off it will then apply LMS’s volume
adjustment.

No more jumping out of my seat when switching from local files to

OK, makes sense. There is no way for me to change firewall settings,
the Arris router doesn't support that.
I will try your suggestion, even though I highly doubt it will make a
difference.
And yes, being a software developer, I don't understand much about
networking, it's just not my thing.

You should NEVER have to open forwarding rules. That's either the wrong
term you're using, or the wrong direction. You have to make sure spotty
can reach the internet on those ports. Forwarding usually is to reach
internal systems from the internet.

Enable logging for plugin.spotty. You should then find the command used
to get the token in your server.log. Try to run the same from the
command line and report back what that gives.

I tried port forwarding rules on my router for 4070 and 5353, tried them
both for the Transporter IP address and the LMS IP address, but neither
made any difference.
I've been using Spotty and lots of other plugins (Radio Paradise,
Shoutcast, TuneIn Radio) for many years, with exactly the same network
setup, and never needed any special firewall rules.
Today, I applied the latest 7.9.3 build, still no difference. Any ideas
on what may be going on?

Beside 5353 (mDNS) I had to open those I listed above (42247, 40641,
35134) from the guest network to the spotty-x86_64 instances which are
listening on these TCP ports (see lsof command output). So every Spotty
instance gets a TCP port assigned somehow, it looks like randomly, and
they get always a new one at restart. They advertise these over mDNS
like this:

Code:

PTR Livingroom._spotify-connect._tcp.local., A **, TXT "VERSION=1.0" "CPath=/", SRV *lmsseverfqdn*.local.:*42247*

Now I allowed access to the port range 32000-65535, but this isn't the
nicest solution. But not a problem so don't put efforts in it.

Thanks for this integration! It's superb, my kids and wife love it.

Hello Michael,

that be configured somehow? Or what port range is used?
I've tried to look this up in the spotty sources but could not find it.

This is what I have now for 3 Connect instances on the LMS server:

Code:

# lsof -i | grep spotty | grep LISTEN
  spotty-x8 5494 squeezeboxserver 25u IPv4 29805632 0t0 TCP *:42247

I'm asking because I managed to let Spotify clients use Spotty from

response remains the same: I'm sorry to say that Connect mode isn't as
robust as it should be. But I haven't found a way to improve it yet.

Also as per a previous post very randomly the "Do not broacast players"
has got checked by itself in the Spotty settings, which seems unlikely
as things dont do it by itself, but I cant explain how it has become
checked?

This, too, has been explained many times before: if there's a conflict
running discovery (other applications might be doing the same), this
feature is disabled. Which unfortunately means you won't see all players
in your network, but only those connected to your account.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 3.x - Spotify Podcasts on your Squeezebox

2020-02-26 Thread alastaid

Hi Michael, firstly thanks for all your work on Spotty, much
appreciated. Spotty has become an essential piece of house software,
with all rooms setup with pcp and hifi berry dacs/amps. In previous
years we were happy using playlists and the LMS music, but Spotify has
become king, and really the only way we listen to music. Hence the
post, I am want to know if it is just my setup or others are
experiencing the same, but spotty is not as reliable as chromecast when
using casting direct from phones (using spotty through the material
client works perfectly) however the kids all want to cast from phone
now. Symptons are, the players will not appear sometimes, they will
play for a while then stop, will appear but then just not connect and
stream. It is random (as far as I can tell) if a player gets turned on
(and they are synchronised in LMS) it stops play and often cant
reconnect. I have tried many things, messed about with the network,
rebuilt the LMS server, updated all pcp players to v5, kept an eye on
the log file, but cant pin anything down. To try and debug I have
rebuilt a pi with raspotify and it works perfectly, completely rock
solid casting with phone. Anyone else having these issues, any ideas of
what I can do to try and debug?
Also as per a previous post very randomly the "Do not broacast players"
has got checked by itself in the Spotty settings, which seems unlikely
as things dont do it by itself, but I cant explain how it has become
checked?

Thanks Alastair

Is there any specific port number or protocol I should look for?
Sometimes these blocked ports are not detailed enough on the router
configuration, so they may appear as "rules" to abstract specific IP
commands.

Ports used: 4070 (AP), 443, 80, 5353/UDP

I know... Very strange indeed. I haven't touched any firewall settings
in a long time, and certainly not blocked anything, but let me check
again, in case the internet provider has pushed any updates of the sort.

Thanks again, and here is the new log file:

Unfortunately I still can't find anything interesting in there. It
really looks like the daemon wasn't allowed to talk to the spotify
servers. Are you blocking any outgoing port on your router/firewall?
Anything else that changed in the past weeks since it still did work?

on 2/23 and 2/24 are only generated once I click on the Spotty menu
item:

No recent changes have occurred in my network, everything works fine and
LMS has no problem streaming anything, it's just the Spotty plugin that
doesn't work at all.
You may have seen network errors dated back to January, but the entries
on 2/23 and 2/24 are only generated once I click on the Spotty menu
item:

Would be great if you could track this down... it's all on github:

https://github.com/michaelherger/Spotty-Plugin
https://github.com/michaelherger/spotty

The problem is there are two systems who want to be in control of
playback: LMS and Spotify. Therefore I have to make sure that if Spotify
tells me to play track X, I sync this with LMS, and the other way
around. Now there's the problem: the code has to make sure it accepts
control from both ends. But never propagate changes back to the source,
as this could trigger yet another state change... Some of this behaviour
isn't "scientific", as there's no documentation. So this really is
something between Spotify, librespot, and Spotty.

You have to enable Connect mode for every player in
Settings/Player/Spotty. You can then control it from the Spotify app.

But please note that in Connect mode Spotify would only allow you to
play on one single device. Either your phone OR your computer OR a
Squeezebox.

In LMS mode you can't control playback through their apps.

Hello,

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

When I start playing spotify on my iPhone, my desktop recognizes it and
allows me to control my iphone playback via spotify desktop software.

But if I use LMS and spotty to play a song, desktop and mobile apps does
not recognize and update it automatically and if I want to control the
playback I first must choose squeezebox player from connected devices
and then the playback interrupts.

Is there a way to get the apps update the current playback device
(spotty and squeezebox players)

Thanks!

I switched from moode to picoreplayer but I have the same issue. In Lms
interface spotty works very very well. In connect mode with my android
Spotify app I have issue: if I start a song sometime not works, sometime
start with some delay, sometime works well. But after two or three
songs, the music is stopped. I'm not able to reproduce a full album in
connect mode. Only 2/3 songs. Sometime instead after 2 songs, the third
start and freeze, restart and freeze, with some gap. I repeat: if I play
in the web Lms interface spotty works well without any issue.
I'm getting my self crazy.

Another problem (which i had since First day): when i play a Song from
an album or an album (i'm talking about android Spotify app) It play 2
or 3 Songs and stop. I have to open spotify app and "tap" play button to
continue to play next Song. Why?

Is there any limit on supported Spotify playlist size ? I've got one
with 3900 songs, but only the first 477 show up when I access it via
LMS/spotty. I've tried changing the "Maximum Playlist Length" in the
LMS Performance tab to be 0 rather than 500, also restarted server and
player, but that hasn't helped.

Anything else I should try, if it's supposed to work?

Thanks

LMS is the current development version. I try to keep it stable (as I'm
using it myself). But features can change over night, or new bugs
introduced. If you want to use LMS8 you should be willing to update your
LMS every (few) day(s).

You need to install a different version of Spotty with LMS 8.0.0. To do
this you need to add Michael's test repository.

That's only required if you want to integrate Spotty with your local
library. But then you shouldn't even install LMS8 if you're not
interested in that feature :-)

No error message. When connecting to device from computer or mobile it
would stop after a few minutes. When manually adding in LMS same thing
and would receiving waiting on "LMS ip" and then nothing.

Did you try to enter username/password in the Spotty settings? I still
see no trace of such a sign-in attempt.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 3.x - Spotify Podcasts on your Squeezebox

2020-02-07 Thread Michael Herger

It seems recently that the Spotty volume drops after pausing a track for
even a few seconds. Its sounds almost 1/2 as loud on resume.

I think this is due to transcoding: by default Spotty would stream Ogg
directly to the player (if possible). When pausing or seeking it would
use PCM/FLAC instead. And one of these formats seems to respect
replaygain, while the other doesn't. Or similar. If you want to always
have the same volume level, either turn off normalization, or disable
Ogg direct for Spotty (SPT -> OGG).

I saw some posts a few years back, in this thread, about this, but those
claim it was resolved. Maybe the issue has returned?

I have volume fixed @ 100% (volume is controlled in other ways), no
crossfade, not track or album gain adjustments set.

Any ideas?

Ok - I have been streaming using Spotty to my SB Touch, with the default
buffer size selected using the EDO applet.

This time when it happened, LMS v8.0 generated the following:
thread 'main' panicked at 'called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value:
Custom { kind: Other, error: StringError("bytes remaining on stream")

Sorry, I missed your answer to my question before making my last post
about Qobuz ... so, then this issue could occur with any streaming
service plugin?

Not sure, tbh. But the message you posted previousl point into a totally
differen direction anyway. Something about XML parsing failure. Failing
to parse track information could certainly bring playback to an end.

OK, now something that at first looks similar happened while streaming
from Qobuz to a player on my laptop, gmediarender, I came to the end of
a track, and the track time remaining began flashing "-00:00" as I have
seen happen with Spotty. LMS began giving the following error message
repeatedly:

[22:06:56.051327] XMLGetFirstDocumentItem:182 (BUG)
ixmlNode_getFirstChild(tmpNode) returned NULL
[22:07:00.984111] XMLGetFirstDocumentItem:182 (BUG)
ixmlNode_getFirstChild(tmpNode) returned NULL
[22:07:06.024427] XMLGetFirstDocumentItem:182 (BUG)
ixmlNode_getFirstChild(tmpNode) returned NULL

As soon as I hit the "Next track" button, it proceeded onward like
nothing had happened. I am using the very latest Git versions of
everything: LMS v8.0, Spotty, Qobuz, Material, etc.

buffer size matter?

At some point I was investigating an issue which sounded similar as
yours. Turns out the user had a buffer which was large enough to store
more than one track. And I believe that's something LMS doesn't handle
correctly.

I am using a SB Touch, but I have the EDO applet installed, and I am
using the large buffer option.

Could you please try without the large buffer and report back?

using the large buffer option.

2020-02-04 Thread Michael Herger

We seem to be stuck fetching metadata for the last track we just played,

It's not "stuck". It's just some UI polling for track information.

When the Spotify stream stalls, I simply hit the "Next Track" button in
the skin, and we are back to playing again. Regardless of the source of
the problem, could LMS could detect this condition, and continue on to
the next track automatically if there is one, to recover?

I asked about Connect because this is kind of a known issue there. But
in regular playback it shouldn't be that common. What kind of player are
you using? You wouldn't be using some Squeezelite with a huge buffer,
would you?
