Testers posts bug reports with inline images. They are all placed inline from Apple Mail. Sender doesn't care to (or need to) rename each attachments. PM won't show them inline. You don't know which attachment image is supposed to line up with which description. Frustrating. Most of the beta programs forced me to switch to Apple Mail. In the beginning, I separated accounts so I receive beta group mails to Apple Mail, and regular mails to PM. Soon, it was just too much so I just switch everything to Apple Mail. Re: Review of Power Mail
I belong to quite a few software beta groups. Almost all of them posts bug reports with embedded images from Apple Mail, and PM won't handle them since they don't come as HTML mail. When someone embeds series of images with its name being generic, I have to guess the sequences. Lately it got worse. PM is picking up wrong files. When I open the attachment, PM is so confused and showing me totally wrong images probably because the file name is generic screen capture appended by long numbers. These days I feel I am cornered to switch to Apple Mail. Is there any solution to this? By the way, First Aid didn't work to remedy this problem. I have a feeling PM can't handle 13,000 files in the attachment folder. -- - Hiro Hiroaki Honshuku, A-NO-NE Music, Boston, MA http://a-no-ne.com http://anonemusic.com

Re: bug or feature ?
Besides I too feel HTML printing issue is a problem and needs to be taken care of, whether you call it bug or not, there is something else. I do handful of beta testings for many different vendors. The beta testing lists often depends on inline images. PM can't display them unless the original message was HTML. On the other hand, more often than not, I get multipart/mixed; boundary message which shows no content, just blank body, unless I switch PM display to HTML. This is a bug. I used to delete them thinking they are sent by mistake. The biggest problem is, and I don't know when and how this happens, some messages comes with two HTML files and one generic image file. I currently have 165 picture 1 files related to one beta testing, and there is no way tracking them, especially PM looses link path in a month or so. Yes, this is another problem. Message which is a month or two old shows attachment list in gray. I have to go to Attachment folder to find the file by its name. This has been this way since I start using PM. I have posted this problem a few times but it seems I am the only one having this problem. -- - Hiro Hiroaki Honshuku, A-NO-NE Music, Boston, MA http://a-no-ne.com http://anonemusic.com

This includea some copy protection such as PACE. Migration Assistant will not copy drivers and kext files. This can be a real problem when app was copied but its kext didn't. One more thing. If you manually reinstall everything, it is a really good chance to spring clean your environment. Migration Assistant will copy apps which you haven't used for years :-) -- - Hiro
Warning madness
It just happened that a few people sent me large audio files at once. The partition I have PM db filled up quickly. At this point, PM threw Not enough space message. The problem is this message gets in a loop. You can't exit PM at this point. If I hit Cmd+Q between dismissing the warning box, PM shows Quit Anyway? warning even though the status bar isn't indicating download is in progress. The Quit Anyway? dialog is sent right away by another Not enough space warning. I had to kill PM proc to shut it off. Of course the indices needed to be rebuilt at this point. I was really glad the mail db wasn't corrupt, tho. -- - Hiro Hiroaki Honshuku, A-NO-NE Music, Boston, MA http://a-no-ne.com http://anonemusic.com

This is why Apple had to buy out Emagic Logic so _someone_ have to work hard to program for OSX. All the plug-in vendors had to rewrite their products to work in Logic. Everyone believed the Logic's requirement was the AudioUnits spec. When MOTU came out with AU products, they won't work in Logic. By then, Logic admits they misunderstood Apple's AU spec. MOTU followed the spec to the letter, and it won't work. By the way, it was also Apple's fault the spec wasn't too clear when Logic had to be out there. This AU mess is much improved now, but some vendors like Waves, probably the biggest and most sold plug-in vendor, their AU version supports only Logic. This upsets us a lot, but they are still surviving in this game. -- - Hiro Hiroaki Honshuku, A-NO-NE Music, Boston, MA http://a-no-ne.com http://anonemusic.com

Snooze doesn't work
It has been a while I noticed Snooze won't work, but this is giving me a real headache last 3 days. Mac.com is giving me problems, and Snooze won't snooze it. I have 3 .mac accounts so this is very annoying. Also there is a PM bug. When 'pop not there' error shows up, I hit TAB so [Snooze] is selected, but [SPACE] doesn't engage it. This is a Apple GUI Guideline bug! P.S. Does anyone know what the hell is going on with .mac last 3 days? I can't ping, I can't traceroute, PM reports POP not there, but web access is still OK. Anti Aliasing
I don't like Anti Aliasing especially it makes difficult to identify complex Kanji. One of the Apple engineers wanted to file a bug on this and asked me to make a report. As the first time in a long while, I turned Anti Aliasing on. Surprisingly, Tiger has improved on it drastically. Some of the apps I help L10N does look much nicer. But PM is rather terrible. Everything is harder to read. - Text became dim - Unable to identify bold and normal which is a big problem - The infamous orange dots dancing (first time I saw it) The message body is bulky Courier font, and for the life of me I can't find the way to change it as well as its display size. Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I never suffered from it until I turned Anti Aliasing on. For the list font, I am using the default system font, Lucida Grande. I can't tell which folder is bold. Am I the only one having this problem? - Hiro

SPAM Filter questions
Last few days, all the sudden I am getting incomplete SPAM mails into Inbox. The mail only has From but nothing else. No To, no Subject, no Reply-to, nor body. I am getting them a lot, and I have been hitting Cmd+Y like a mad man. I thought either PM or SpamSieve would do something about it but to no avail. I seems to be unable to find the way to filter them. If I make To _is_ then leave the field blank, the filter does nothing. Any suggestion would be appreciated. These days, I am a little skeptical about SPAM filters. I found I almost missed an important message which was directed to me by my valid mail address and display name. It was in the SPAM folder, and contains no SPAM keyword. I get 300-500 SPAM mails a day so I think I was pure lucky to see this one, but who knows if I am missing more. It is almost impossible to go through all the SPAM one by one before deleting. And now this. When I opened Filter, I found entry duplicates which shouldn't be there. I have two Trash filters after PM's SPAM filter to trash whatever missed. Why I have two trash filters is because one can contain only 16 instances. Anyway, the top of the 2nd Trash filter is Body starts with ('Dear Homeowner'). I just found out this condition was repeated 3 times in the filter. When you say random characters, I assume you can see correct sentence partially and it starts to corrupt in a middle of the sentence, right? This is due to Gomi byte got within the multiple byte sequence, might be caused by (a) the sender's mailer such as one running on Windows English with Japanese Locale (Windows require so called Far East Package in order to have the true Japanese OS dlls, and it ain't cheap), or (b) sender's server gateway that drops the control byte. Here is an interesting side notes. Berklee has huge percentage of Asian students. They use their own email interface for students. When you receive Japanese email, and setting encode correctly, you can view most of the sentences but not all. However, when you hit Reply, all will be displayed correctly in the quote section. I have no idea why it is this way. Back to the topic, when I had this problem on Windows, I had to ask the sender to resend in HTML format (yeah, so much of anti-HTML!). I actually don't know how much PM is contributing to this problem since I have not seen it with PM, but now I am very curious if you could receive the same message with Mail.app to compare. -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED]

Unfortunately, last couple versions of SPAMSieve has been missing all the SPAMs which sender address is mine, and I was going to write about it to Michael. By the way, I don't have my address in the AddressBook, of course. I am involved with more than 10 active beta test lists. Constantly, more than 2 or 3 products are close to shipping so my mail browsing priority changes day to day. This is the reason. -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED]

At least for users being on this list. It's also true for me. Without it, I may have never have chosen PowerMail. Interesting. I never felt using that feature. When I tried it, I didn't feel it benefits my workflow so I never opened RMW again. -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED]

Re: AppleMail compatible problem
Jérôme, Just to make sure you understand the issue here. Some of the messages from AppleMail let PM have globe icon so I can see the embedded images as supposed to be. The others don't give the globe icon and gives bogus HTML files instead. What puzzling is their header looks identical. I don't see anything particularly different. I wish I can show you the messages but I am under a heavy NDA. If I try this by myself, it all broken so I can't have a sample of successful one. -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED]

I think. It didn't work, but I found the workaround. PM exports as mbox, and you have to change the file name to filename.mbox in order for AppleMail to be able to import. And you were right. The imported message showed up as broken, two bogus HTML attachments besides the image file attachment just as PM received. It seems to be a PM issue. unimplemented?
Took me more than a year or two to ask this :-) I have one ISP where I have two different accounts. Both of them gives me PM error unimplemented a dozen times a day. It has been like this as long as I remember. What does this mean? I want to cancel their services, and I wanted to know what to tell them about this. Thanks for any comment. -- - Hiro [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED] [PROTECTED]

It seems this is nothing to do with PM. How many PM files do you have them locally? Are you sure you are not confusing which one you think it is current?
