I had the problem also with 4D 2004 (the problem was gone in v11). I suspect a bug in a Carbon Lib which is rarely used, but by apps which are coming the long way from far before OS9. And I didn't observed that problem anymore with Leopard and Intel. Thanks and all the best Matthias

I tested that as well and this also worked. I'm not sure what you're describing is the same as what I'm doing. Is something getting lost in translation? I _did_ think the spam button was the culprit. But no one could verify that after marking spam messages themselves. So I was wrong. But I was close. After restarting the computer and launching/hiding/quitting PowerMail many, many times, I think it is having a message selected that has been flagged as spam and with that message selected calling Command-H to hide the app. If a spam message, marked by filter/SpamSieve is selected in my Mail Browser list (three-pane view, I guess I gotta specify that too -- it's been awhile), and with it selected I press Command-H to hide the app, the app refuses to hide. Every time. It didn't occur to me to test with the message opened from the mail browser (if one double-clicks the message to read it in its own window), as I never go through messages that way. That's next on the list to get tested. I do know that while the Mail Browser and Recent Mail Window refuse to hide when this bug is triggered, a new mail window _will_ hide properly. When you say "(it) does indeed hide the _message_" and not "... the _application_" -- did you mean the application and _all_ its associated windows hides correctly? Do you have the Mail Browser and/or Recent Mail Windows open? >I provide this info to show that the fault is likely not CTMs but rather >Apples for changing the map. Which is what I suspect happened. But just >speculation based on earlier verified Apple behaviour when it comes to >informing their third party developers. It's only PowerMail that has the can't-hide problem. Only PowerMail. Of all the applications I use. Only. So I'm not letting them off the hook. :) Besides we need a post from Jérôme or Jean-Michel on this list every once in a while, for morale you know. :P Chris --

Re: PowerMail refuses to hide... (updated)
How to reproduce PowerMail hiding bug: Scenario 1: 1. In the Mail Browser, have selected a message that _you_ have identified as spam by pressing the spam button in the toolbar. 2. Hit Command-H with the message selected. Result: PowerMail should hide as expected. Scenario 2: 1. In the Mail Browser, have selected a message that _PowerMail_ has identified as spam: a. can be anywhere: Spam folder, Mail Trash, In Tray, Out Tray, or regular folder. (try moving one from the Spam folder to your inbox for example). b. identified ala a filter or SpamSieve -- not sure how it got flagged c. Partial spam rating doesn't count! Needs to be a true positive for spam 2. Hit Command-H with the message selected. Result: PowerMail doesn't hide, and is borked until app relaunch. I suspect this behavior will be the same for the Recent Mail Window if spam is flagged there and selectable in the list before clearing it. Don't have enough recent mail spam to test that. If so, do report. I suspect most people will not experience this day-to-day in the Mail Browser window as messages marked as spam will be ferreted off to the Spam folder which is (likely) not often used. Chris --

>Probably not a PM problem at all -- or something >that is now becoming noticed? Except that PowerMail is the only one that has the problem with not hiding. It tried the restart last night and then tried to spam-button PM into staying visible, but no luck. So the restart worked... ... till this morning. After I retrieved mail, then PM refuses to hide again. Now I wonder if PowerMail gets tripped up if the computer goes to sleep? or the screensaver comes on? This new message will hide, but the main windows won't. Chris --

I'm only using PowerMail v5.2.2. I thought I had the latest. So this might be some change in the OS or a supporting thing which is causing it then. Since the problem is showing up in both 10.4.11 and 10.5.1 (at least) it must be some supporting bit which hasn't been updated in a while? Re(2): PowerMail refuses to hide...
Actually I've found this same problem with other programs too. I first noticed it with YEP! I thought it was a problem with OS X 10.5.1 and have been waiting for 10.5.2 to fix it. Didn't happen until I installed 10.5.x - I've only seen the problem on my home machine, a quad G5..but then I use that machine for a lot more things than my office machine where I'm usually just running Powermail, Safari and backup software Not a big problem, usually a quit/launch cycle fixes it... I've also noticed that sometimes the menu bar won't switch to the Finder properly either The joys of cutting edge living +---+ Bill Schjelderup, [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>Which version of PM are you using? >>Maybe updating to 5.6.1 would also fix the problem. >>(I updated after the system change) > >I am using 5.6.1 unfortunately, which I thought _was_ the fix! :) > > >>I'm on 10.4.8 PPC so I can't verify. It is easier to quit the app and relaunch, but that's a good idea. I'll try a restart and see if the spam button behaves. If only the Recent Mail Window wouldn't reset between app launches... FWIW, I had the same problem with non-hiding on my iBook G4, so the rest of you PPC users aren't off the hook. :P Chris --

I think it began after the most recent update. I am on a PPC Mac using OS X 10.4.11. It's an annoyance, but I hadn't gotten around to asking about it myself yet. At least now I know it isn't just me. PowerMail refuses to hide...
... only after I hit the "identify spam" button. Windows for the Mail Brower and Recent Mail Window grey out but don't disappear. Can anyone else confirm this? OS X 10.4.11 on Intel Chris --
