I’ve tried several approaches to get this to work, but no luck. They have a
service they call “Mailing Lists”, which would allow me to send one message and
have it sent to everyone on the list, so that sounded promising. I worked out a
script to sync the subscription status on my server with the Mailgun lists, but
tried sending a few test messages. Turns out that they wipe out all existing
header information, and replace it with their own, which would totally break
the archives, since the Message-Id: header is key to threading. It also strips
the Reply-To: header, making it impossible to reply to the list automatically.

So we’re back to me sending the mail directly from my server. Apologies to all
whose ISPs block me.

Your account is set to receive your own posts, so I assume that it is something
in the email client of Office 365 that needs to be changed to make your own
posts show up. Some clients see the reply as a dupe (since it’s in your Sent

OK, before anyone starts quibbling over this: I meant 210 *postings* per month,
which, sent to 475 subscribers, makes 99,750 total email messages sent: just
below the 100K threshold.

RE: String help (was Re: [ADMIN] Testing post to ProFox)

2018-05-18 Thread Paul H. Tarver
I don't know if this would interest anyone but me, this thread got to me to
thinking about a method I wrote years ago for my library class to clean text up
and remove a default set of characters, but I can also pass a custom set of
characters to be removed. It's called CLEANTEXT and the heart of it is the
CHRTRAN command that Frank suggested.

His command noted it would leave behind invalid characters. So as a mental
exercise, I created a new method called CLEANTEXT_NUMBER and it will use
Frank's command to identify the invalid characters and then remove those
invalid characters from the original string to leave you with only the good
characters you want to leave behind without needing to know the invalid
characters you want removed. In this new method, you just need to know what you
want to keep. For example if you don't pass a value for the pcRequestedChars,
it will assume you want just the digits to remain. But if you pass a special
list of requested characters, it will return just those characters if they
exist in the original string.

PARAMETERS pcStringToClean, pcRequestedChars
LOCAL leRetVal, lcValidChars, lcRemoveChars

If pcount() = 1

lcValidChars = "0123456789"

else

lcValidChars = pcRequestedChars

endif

lcRemoveChars = CHRTRAN(m.pcStringToClean, m. lcValidChars, "")

leRetVal = CHRTRAN(m.pcStringToClean, m.lcRemoveChars, "")

RETURN leRetVal

Stupid stuff I know, but a nice quick mental exercise! Thanks, Frank!

Because Gmail by default treat ProFox email as spam, I am using what Ted

no more ProFox emails in Spam.

Another option in Gmail is creating a filter and checking "Never mark this
as spam". I have many lists like this.

Re: [ADMIN] Testing

2018-03-27 Thread Ken Dibble
No, it's some peculiarity in my text and/or subject line that some
filter's RegEx code did not anticipate, I'm sure.

Around Christmas I sent a long email to my brother with about 20
links to Christmas songs on YouTube pages, interspersed with
commentary. His email server kept rejecting the message. I eventually
broke it down to one of those links by sending them to him one at a
time. The one that didn't go through was not immediately
distinguishable from any of the others, just another string of random
characters, but his ISP insisted on rejecting it, over and over and over.

It was a legitimate YouTube link like all the others; click it, the
song played, without any unintended or unexpected other results.

This is what we have come to in our quests to defeat spam--and the
longer this type of strategy is followed--the higher the percentages
of legitimate messages that won't be delivered, eventually rendering
email useless.

Ah well...

Ed, if you see any of my messages, please see if my original one is
stuck in the filter.

Thanks.
