RE: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad

2015-08-24 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hello tot he list!

I tried the steps below on a new MacBook Pro, Yosemite and PT12.1 with no
tsuccess.

A double tap on the trackpad with no modifier works for solo, mute etc.
But trying to solo save a track - holding command and double tapping - does not
work.

Do you have any idea?

Thanks in advance! / Martin

I bought the Apple Magic Track Pad when it first came out and didn't use it
terribly much as I was using an old version of Pro Tools under OS 9 at the
time. Having since switched over to Pro Tools 11 full time, I've experimented
with the Track Pad as I know some others on the list have as well. For
anybody who wants to easily perform modified clicks in Pro Tools to solo
safe, record all, show or hide all with ease, I'd highly recommend it. One
recommendation would be to turn off everything in the Track Pad panel of
System Preferences except for the very first checkbox labeled Tap to Click.
If you set the mouse pointer to follow the VoiceOver cursor, simply holding
down the modifier and tapping the Track Pad anywhere will perform the
modified click. Further, pop-up lists behave normally with the modified
behavior. Of course, laptop users with track pads already have this
functionality but anybody with a Mac Mini or iMac, etc. would benefit from
the Magic Track Pad. A mouse could possibly work OK but one risks the
possibility of moving the mouse pointer before performing the click. The
Track Pad won't have this issue unless one touches the pad elsewhere and
moves it. I find that its form factor is practically fool-proof.

Just a thought for those without a surface to easily work with modified
 clicks.

Well, for starters, don't double-click. The way to press a button is to single
click. The way to solo safe a track, for example, is to Command-click which
means to hold the modifier and click not double-click. Give that a try. I'm
Yosemite and version 12 with no issues.

2015-11-10 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hello Slau!

Yes, but without sighted assistance it took me a while to understand the eq III
7 band assignments.

E.g. The high pass controls are shown on the second parameter page of the
Artist Mix.
And the input level is to the right of the output level also on the second
parameter page.

Trying to doublecheck this with VoiceOver takes too much time.

Actually, I believe in ProTools 10.0 it was possible to automate plug-ins from
the keyboard. I vaguely remember doing a bid on it during the creation
process of our tutorials, and I think we decided against it for one reason or
another but I'm going to see if I can track down the audio and listen to it to
see if it worked. I also have an old machine around here that still has 10 on

maybe I will fire it up when I get home tonight and just make sure that I'm

control surfaces and would never dream of writing automation using only
VoiceOver. Those testers without a surface clearly never got around to
testing this specific aspect. From an accessibility standpoint, the knee-jerk
reaction is to look at things that are unlabeled or invisible, etc.
 Functionality
such as this is taking it a step further and so it's not inconceivable how
 this

doubt it was any different going back to version 8.

Anyway, as I said earlier, this won't get fixed in the upcoming release but

submit a bug report for the future.

Thanks for the informations.

Do you know, if the LED setting is a HD feature or is it available on all Pro
Tools platforms?

2015-12-07 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau!

Thanks a lot for your help again.

After removing the Click II folder the problem still exists with the factory
preset.

My fault: I never went into the Click II plug-in window before.

Now I created a new session only with the click track for you.
I saved the session with the "off" "Enable LED" session

RE: For El Capitan users

2015-12-11 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi!

I came across the LED thing when playing around with Slau's Click II presets.

On my two systems PT even in stop mode is not that responsive habing the
"Enable LED" set to "On" state.

I flashed my harddiscs and made a fresh installation of Yousemite.
Hopefully this brings the good performance back again. :-)

PT12.4 or me

2016-01-02 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

I just installed PT12.4 under Yousemite.

When opening existing sessions I'm able to delete selected audio but only
out of existing tracks.

When inserting a new mono audio track and recording something I'm not able
to delete the selected audio.

Same with new sessions.

Loop playback of the selected audio works fine and all selecting functions
do also work.

I checked all the time- and edit-line settings, Grabber-Tool etc. with no
success.

Could it be a window size or zoom issue?

If so... Could I reset that values without assistance?

What else could I check?

Thanks! / Martin

Slau!

Thanks for answering and helping again.

All the settings, options and prefs. Were set correctly.

After testing the whole day I experienced something reliable and reproducible.

Not shure if this is a new PT 12.4 thing?...
I never came to that before.

Here are my observations:

After opening a new empty session and adding e.g. an audio track I have to
enable the Scrubber-Tool by pressing e.g. Control+Numpad0.
After that I habe to disable that tool by pressing Spacebar or Escape.

Having done these two steps deleting copying and cutting works fine again.
Where does this come from?

Another short question: Is there a difference between Command+B and the Delete
key?

Re: PT12.4 or me

2016-01-12 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau!

I think, I got it.

Selecting a track by pressing Command+Option+F is not the same like using p and
semicolon.
P and semicolon moe the insertion point to the desired track and
Command+Option+F not.
Maybe thats the whole trick.

Thank you for your great assistance and have a nice day! / Martin

RE: PT12.4 or me

2016-01-12 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau and list!

Here is the link to my favorite test session.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30728751/Uke.zip

It's out of the ProToolsWithSpeech tutorial added with an raw recorded uke.
Sorry for the size but I did not want to change anything.
And all testers who do not own a copy of ProToolsWithSpeech should trash this
session after testing.

Do the following:

Open the session with Pro Tools 12.4 or 12.3.1.
Select track 4 (the acoustic guitar) by using scroll to track -
Command+Option+F.
Go to bar 6 by using NumpadStar followed by Numpad6 and NumpadEnter.
Select to the beginning of the session by using Shift+Enter.
Delete the selected audio by pressing Delete or Command+B.
Press Enter for session start and Numpad0 for audition.
Now the guitar starts at bar 1.

And now:

Insert a new mono audio track next to the guitar by pressing Shift+Command+N
followed by VO+Space.
Arm the new track by pressing Shift+R.
Start recording by pressing Numpad3 and record 4 bars of what ever.
Stop recording by pressing Numpad0.
Unarm the track by pressing Shift+R.
Go to bar 3 by pressing NumpadStar followed by Numpad3 and NumpadEnter.
Select to the beginning of the session by using Shift+Enter.
Delete the selected audio by pressing Delete or Command+B.
Press Enter for session start and Numpad0 for audition.
Did the deletion work?

Hi Slau!

The edit window is opened and all numpad navigation commands work perfect.
Waveform is selected and the track hight is set to middle.
But still no deletion possible.
Starting and stopping shuttle lock mode once by pressing Control+Numpad0
followed by the Spacebar and the deletion works again for this track.
Same procedure again when adding another new track.

Strange…

Fades question - PT 12.4

2016-06-08 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

Having the Commands Keyboard Focus Mode turned on d, f and g will perform
the different fades without any dialog in the edit window.

Turning the Commands Keyboard Focus Mode off the same shortcuts should work
in conjunction with the ctrl key.

This is true for d and g but not for f.

Is there a way to crossfade without dialoge when Commands Keyboard Focus
Mode is off?

Thanks in advance and best regards! / Martin

RE: Keyboard focus mode?

2016-06-08 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
It's a mode where you can skip the ctrl key.

e.g.: Select next track is ctrl+semicolon
Turning the mode on you only have to press the semicolon.

The command to turn the mode on for the edit window is option+command+1
To turn it of for the edit window press e.g. option+command+2

RE: Fades question - PT 12.4

2016-06-08 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Just check the options in the edit menu under fades. ;-)

D is fade from start of a region or clip to the cursor position
G is fade to end of a region or clip from the cursor position
F ist crossfade the boundary of regions or clips.

Tempo changes

2016-06-14 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

I have a session including a metronome and some audio tracks.
The session also has 2 tempo changes.

Now I have to insert 2 further bars at the beginning of the session for all
tracks for recording.

First I selected all tracks via command+a.
Further I selected the first two bars by moving to bar three and then
pressing Shift+Enter.
Finally I pressed Command+Shift+E to insert silence.

All tracks have been moved 2 bars to the right but the tempo changes are
still at their initial positions.

What is the best way to move existing tempo changes?

Thanks in advance! / Martin

When selecting the session from start to end and unchecking "keep tempo after

RE: new avid application manager question

Hi Brian!

Here are two of Slaus great mails regarding iLok.
Maybe he'll send the link to his short acoustic overview again or you'll find
it on the iLok website.
Further check the menu in the iLok app to find all the given shortcuts.
And of cause the iLok documentation.

Command-1 shows you all of your licenses. Command-l shows you the locations
(including your host computer) and the connected and unconnected iLoks.
Command-6 browses the activations on the selected location. If you have more
than one iLok connected and they both belong to the same account, you can
select either iLok and press Command-6 to browse the activated licenses on the
respective iLoks. Otherwise, again, use Command-1 to browse all licenses
associated with your account.

Subject: logging into the iLok License Manager before browsing account

I just thought I'd point out something that might confuse people about
logging into the iLok account with the iLok License Manager. When you launch
the ILM, you need to log into your account. If you've previously checked the
checkbox to remember your login name and password, all you need to do is hit
Return and you'll be logged in. If you don't hit Return or you don't enter
your login name and password, you won't be logged in but you will still be
able to browse the contents of any connected iLok key. so, in other words,
you can take a stranger's iLok, insert it and see the licenses on it. To be
sure, you can't do anything to those licenses unless you know the login name
and password for the account to which that iLok is registered. So, here's
the thing: if you're not truly logged in, you'll see your own iLoks and
recognize the contents and all but it will appear that your connected iLok
or iLoks are registered to a different account. In fact, they're registered
to your account but, until you log in, it'll appear as if they belong to
another account. To make sure you've logged in, check the file menu and
you'll see whether it says, "Sign In" or "Sign Out." Another way to force
the login dialog to come up is, after launching, you can just hit Command-1.
If you're already logged in, it'll simply take you to a list of all of your
licenses but, if you're not logged in, you'll be faced with the login
dialog. Again, checking the box to remember the login info will ensure that
all you have to do is press return after launching the ILM and you should be
fine.
...

For El Capitan users again

Hello all!

If you are using Pro Tools 12.3, 12.4 or 12.5 under El Capitan and your Pro
Tools is a non HD one...

Could you please try the following:

Create a blank session;
Insert a click track;
Interact with that track and the inserts of it;
Open the Click II plug-in window by clicking on the corresponding insert
slot.

Does Pro Tools/VoiceOver become sluggish at this point?

Thanks in advance and best regards! / Martin

Hmm, I don't recall saying that. I think I mentioned that many of the AIR

the AIR Music Technologies directory but that's not true for Structure itself.
It's a bit odd that Structure seems to be pretty much the only one that
contains specifically its own presets rather than Pro Tools presets like their
other instruments. I wish they'd refresh Structure as a product along with

RE: AIR expansion pack, what is going wrong

2017-02-02 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Stefan!

Thanks for your answr and offer to talk via phone.

I downloaded the Structure presets from PTWS.
When browsing them in Pro Tools you'll find a "Korg M3" and a "Motif XS" folder.
All presets within these 2 folders will trigger the "Find Samples Dialog" again.
The rest of the presets work as expected.

Do I have to buy the samples for the M3 and the Motif in addition or is there a
mistake in the list of presets?

Thanks again and best! / Martin

RE: AIR expansion pack, what is going wrong

2017-02-02 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Stefan!

You're right, those 2 are missing in that folder and elsewhere on my machine.
Could it be a difference between the current Structure version out of the
expansion pack and the older Structure versions?

One of the reasons to buy the expansion pack was to have all the Yamaha CP70/80
sounds.
And just all those sounds are within the M3 and Motif folders. :-(

Could you recommend an accessible Plug-in for Pro Tools (Mac OS) including
presets especially for the CP stuff?

Hi Stefan and list!

Today I got some assistance and we could set the sample folder path.
But something seams to be wrong or incomplete.
When e.g. chosing the Motif CP70 preset, the open sample whindow opens again.

What is wrong here?

Structure - Korg M3 and Motif XS patches

2017-02-02 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hello all!

Does someone own Structure including the patches for the "Korg M3" and the
"Motif XS"?

I just bought the current version of Structure and the plug-in presets from
PTWS does not match in that two cases.

So I'm searching for the reason.

Thanks! / Martin

Yes, the folder "Korg M3" and "Motif XS" are both on the main level of the
preset list.
And they came with the PTWS download.

AIR expansion pack, what is going wrong

2017-01-28 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

Some days ago I downloaded and nstalled Velvet and found the plug-in presets in
the AIR app folder.

Today I did the same with Structure but there are no presets in the AIR folder.
Only a lot of patches.

And the app folder looks a little like a mixture between Structure and
Structure free.

Any ideas how to get the presets?

Thanks and best! / Martin

What's more economic

2017-02-21 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

When having for example 5 MIDI tracks with different drum instruments...
Is it more economic - regarding computer resources - to route all 5 MIDI
tracks to one aux track and instantiate the drum sound plug-in here.
Or is it better to have 5 individual instrument tracks, each with the same
plug-in.

Isn't the second way better to be able to freeze tracks.

Thanks for your ideas! / Martin

RE: Velocity curves - Roland A8

2017-02-14 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau!

Yes, there is a kind of config mode via the keyboard of the Keystation 88
itself.
Your description sounds very similar to the Keystation 88 manual.
The bad thing is, that there is no word about velocity in that manual.
Only an older Keystation called Keystation Pro 88 had the velocity chapter in
its manual.
But I'll give it a try.

So far I'm trying with the MIDI real-time velocity properties to push the
signal. Thanks Pro Tools.

Best and many thanks! / Martin

Velocity curves - Roland A8

2017-02-14 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau!

At the moment I'm testing a M-Audio Keystation 88.
Very inexpensive but maybe enouth to trigger some Samples.

I realized that it is very hard to play notes with a velocity of 127 with
the Keystation 88.
Unfortunately there is no way to change the velocity curve at all.

How is this behavior with the A8?
Could I change velocity curves on the fly accessible?

Thanks for your valuable support! / Martin

Thanks for answering.

When you say Enter you are talking about the NumpadEnter key and Return is

Hi Martin,
You're doing the right thing. The only thing I'd add is that, while an event is
selected, you could also quantize it quickly and it'll snap to the closest grid
but, yes, cutting and pasting is often the way to go. If you're in the MIDI
Event List, you can also select an event, press Command+Enter and then input
the bar/beat/tick value on the num pad and press Return. That'll move the event
to wherever you want.

Thanks and yes, I just work with the nudge values.
But when I e.g. want to move a snare from 3.1.895 to 3.2 the nudge values do

The fastest way for me at the moment is to cut the snare at 3.1.895, press

The folders look the same like the ones on PTWS, but maybe the internal

I'll let you know, if the presets will be there after the installation.
If not, I take yours.

Is there anything to care ablut during the installation to get the presets?

Re: Strike

Hi Slau!

Talking about that version of Strike2 which is not comming with the expansion
pack, there are no presets in my folder:
Mac OSX ▸ Programme ▸ AIR Music Technology ▸ Strike

The Pro Tools Plug/In file Strike.aax is version 2.0.7.19000.

Path: Mac OSX ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Avid ▸ Audio ▸ Plug-Ins

Could this be a difference between the two versions?

Hi Martin,

Just in case the presets are not up-to-date on PTWS, the tfx presets are
located in the same directory for each instrument as described previously.

There is a way for sighted users to select different drum kits but that's not a
parameter that can be automated so voiceOver doesn't see it. Now that we have
Flo Tools, I'd imagine it might be possible to set some coordinates for
selecting different kits to play the same patterns. That said, AIR's pop-up
menus are notoriously inaccessible so it might be a bit of shooting in the dark
but, who knows, it might be possible yet.

AiR Expansion Pack

2017-01-18 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

I just downloaded and installed "Velvet".
The plug came with no presets.
Is that ok or am I missing anything?

How could I get to all the presets for the whole expansion pack?

Thanks and best! / Martin

Hi Sean!

Thank you.

Could I toggle from one to another drumset at once?
I checkt all 611 parameters and could not find something relating to that.

Strike

2017-01-17 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

Currently I'm running Strike2 with the presets from ProToolsWithSpeech.
I purchased this plug before getting the info of the AIR expansion pack
upgrade.

Is the Strike version included in the expansion pack absolute the same as
the version I'm running?
Do I still need the presets from ProToolsWithSpeech after installing the
expansion pack?

Is it further possible to e.g. change a drumkit or to get access to the
other pages mentioned in the Strike manual?

Thanks and best! / Martin

Re: AIR Plug-ins for Pro Tools

Hi Slau!

Thanks for your answers.

The AiR instruments bundle shipped with Pro Tools already created some folders
in the plug-in settings folder of Pro Tools.
Boom, Mini Grand etc.
Will these folders also be used by the expansion pack or do the newer
instruments have other names?

Yes. They can be found in the Presets folders within the respective instrument
folders within the AIR Music Technology folder which resides in your
Applications folder. Cut or copy the presets and paste them into the respective
plug-in subfolders in your Plug-In settings folder. If no such folders exist
for each instrument, create them but make sure to spell the names of the
plug-ins exactly the way they appear in the Plug-Ins window.

Well, it comes with a 40 GB sample library so it's considerably more than the
structure Free library so, whatever I mentioned (and I can't specifically
remember), you'd get the same library others have purchased.

No. Those plug-ins are the property of Avid so they are left alone.

I have a Roland A-88 weighted controller at the studio that I think is great.
It's completely accessible with no displays. Other players who have used it on
sessions absolutely love it so I'm quite happy with it.

RE: AIR Plug-ins for Pro Tools

2017-01-16 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau and others!

I checked the Roland A88.

Is there maybe an alternative with less good mechanical keys?
Something between the M-Audio Key Station 88 and the Roland A88.

I need a large enough keyboard to control plug-ins without having to switch
from octave to octave every minute.
And I do not need DAW transport keys etc.
Just a good master keyboard.

Hi Slau!

Yes, you got me right.
So I will search the web for the Roland A-series.

Thanks! / Martin

Hi Martin,

I'm a bit confused. With an 88-key controller, you wouldn't need to switch
octaves at all. So, you're looking for an 88-key controller, yes? When you say
"less mechanical," do you mean unweighted? The A-88 is a weighted controller.
What you're probably looking for, in that case, is a semi-weighted controller.
I'm not sure what Roland might have along the lines of the completely
accessible A series but I would imagine they have something.
Cheers,
Slau

Additional plug-in bundle vs. shipped stock plugs

2016-10-05 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi all!

Does someone have some experience regarding the 17 additional plug-I bundle
out of the "Annual Plug-ins and Support Plan" in comparison to the ones
included in Pro Tools (not HD).

Especially: Is the Studio Reverb better, more accessible or what ever than
the Air reverbs are?
Same for the modulation and distortion plugs.

Of course is the Space plug out of this comparison.

Thank you and best regards! / Martin

RE: More MIDI & El Capitan vo activities.

2016-10-05 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Chuck and others!

If you are an El Capitan user...
Did you ever tried modified mouse clicks using capslock instead of
control+option for the VO key?

I have to wait for all that new stuff until PT 12.6.1 is out.

Best! / Martin
