Re: [qmailtoaster] QmailToaster: Unable to add Spam Filter using wiki steps

2012-06-25 Thread Peter R Stanley
I'm running CentOS 5.8 (32 Bit) with 100GB HD and 2GB ram (virtual server)
which is running off a CentOS 5.7 (64bit) with 16GB (if this information is
needed).

I followed David's advice and checked the spamd log, which I did the
following command:
tail -f /var/log/qmail/spamd/current

I found the following messages repeating:
@40004fe869b205191b6c [25773] error: spamd: could not create INET
socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use

2: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in
use

Looked up the solution and found that one person just rebooted their mail
server and it resolved their issue, therefore I attempted the same thing.

used the same command to view the spamd log and here are the results (with
no repeats):
@40004fe86b3129758c5c [26366] warn: server socket setup failed, retry

so I attempted to create a new user on the domain again with the same
criteria described in previous emails and still no Spam folder being
created.

I also attempted changing my softlimit from 2000 (defaulted) to
8000 in the following file:
/var/qmail/supervise/smtp/run

Did the normal commands:
#qmailctl stop
#qmailctl cdb
#qmailctl start

I even rebooted the server, but the still no Spam folder. I'm always find
the oddest issues. Does anyone know what the softlimit should be set to?

I could be wrong, but IIRC it doesn't create a SPAM folder until it
receives SPAM. Maybe someone else can chin=me in if this is
correct.

don't sweat the softlimits anymore, as i was guessing that might have

Re: [qmailtoaster] QmailToaster: Unable to add Spam Filter using wiki steps

2012-06-25 Thread Peter R Stanley
I followed Dave's suggestion of adding the maildrop-toaster in the rebuild
(using qtp-newmodel). Unfortunately, I do not see the Spam folder get
generated, maybe due to the fact I do not have any emails marked as spam?

In regards to Eric's advice:
Thank you for the insight of improving the email server's security. I'll
definitely try that out. So, I have to (somehow) send a spam email to my
new account to get the spam folder generated.
[ SUGGESTION FROM PREVIOUS EMAIL ]
The 1st line here is for SquirrelMail's benefit. It's allowing SM to relay
(IOW send with no authentication) because of the way that SM is configured.
If you add:
$smtpServerAddress  = 'localhost';
$smtpPort   = 587;
$smtp_auth_mech = 'login';
to your /etc/squirrelmail/config_**local.php file, then you can remove the
127. line from the tcp.smtp file. This is a bit more secure, provides
better logging of submissions, and is a bit simpler (imo). I expect we'll
be making this change in the stock configuration at some point.

That isn't the issue here though (someone might find it useful).
[ END SUGGESTION ]

Does anyone have suggestions how to do this (sorry if this is a dumb
question)? I've tried taking spam email (marked from another email server
using qmailrocks setup and Spam Assassin install) and the server will not
even scan when I send it from Qmail. So I tried from my other account
(which simscan did scan) but did not mark it as spam. Any solutions?

Thank you for the prompt response. In qmailadmin, I do have the Spam
Detection? checked for all the accounts for the domain. Here are the steps
I take when creating a new account through qmailadmin
   1) Log into qmailadmin as postmaster for domain
   2) Click on Add New Account
   3) Put in account settings and check the Spam Detection option.
   4) Account is added, so went into Squirrel Mail web client.
   5) Log into account using login information.
   6) SSH into mail server and type the following command: ls -al
/home/vpopmail/domains/domainname.com/user_name/Maildir/

Here is the following results:
drwx-- 9 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Jun 24 22:46 .

The Spam folder is not being created when the account is being created.
Isn't the folder suppose to be created when the account is or is it created
when you receive your first spam mail (if this is the case, is there a way
to have it created when the account is just created)?

Re: [qmailtoaster] QmailToaster: Unable to add Spam Filter using wiki steps

2012-06-24 Thread davidg
 #qmail-spam status returns :
 /var/qmail/supervise/spamd: up (pid 18142) 2 seconds
 /var/qmail/supervise/spamd/log: up (pid 6209) 10453 seconds

looks like spamd is a problem...check that log for clues.

32 or 64 bit? search the archives...may need to raise the softlimt on that
process...anyone else care to chime in? i'm tapping out, i am a
lightweight.

good luck!
