I do wear depends in case my catheter leaks and make sure not to miss a day

I am 42 years old, and after my accident in December of 2000, I didn't have my
period for seven months or so. Of course, when I would mention this to my
husband back then, he would say let's not talk about it. Maybe it will never
come back. Well, shortly after that it did come back. Now, I wish it would go
away. Couple of things. One is that I have a 33-year-old caregiver, who had
to have a total hysterectomy due to cancer. She is cancer free and we are
always joking about her not having a period anymore and how I wish I didn't.
Also, I never thought my husband would be putting in a tampon for me, much less
showing a caregiver how to do it. I use a tampon during the bowel and shower
program. Thank God we have a good sense of humor. I have to wonder if I'm
looking forward to menopause. As I'm normally cold, and I wonder how the hot
flashes are, besides the lack of bleeding. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

2008-04-08 Thread Stacy Harim
Hi,

It was six months before I got my period after I was paralyzed from
encephalomyelitis. I was told that your body goes into some sort of shock and
I was also on a good amount of steriods. They also made my hair fall out.
After that I had weak periods for quite a long time and now I get a really bad
one every few months. The doctors put me on antideppresants when I began
recovering from a coma so it was easier to deal with my recovery. I quit the
antideppresants after a couple of years and was fine until I hurt my back again
from osteomyelitis. I had a few spinal surgeries and my period quit again for
a few months. I quess when the nerves get involved, it affects other parts of
our body in pretty signifigant ways.

I hope our advice and experiences help you,
Stacy

Ladies,
I am new at this, it has only been 1 yr. 8 mo. since my accident. And I can't
seem to get a straight answer to my question.

I am 40 and right after my accident my period stopped for a couple of months.
Then I would have it 2 or 3 days then go 2 weeks then get it again. I just
never know when it is going to come.

My question is this: I am experiencing sweating on the right side of my head.
Especially above my ear to my neck. The sweat just runs down my face. My
scalp has been soaked most of the day. Also my right cheek is flushed.

It comes and goes, right now I am in the drying out stage. Going to bed
shortly and always wake up sweated (only on the one side) sometime during the
night..

I have adjusted with my disability and have been at peace with it. My life has
changed in so many ways, More for the good than the bad.

My point is:I have not been depressed but lately my moods have been wacky and I
cry over stuff that I normally would not.

If you have any advice I would love to hear from you.

Thanks Ladies!
Shelly

Just a suggestion. Try pain meds before getting back into bed. Give it time

Remember most quadriplegics urinate shortly after lying down. The pressure

I'm sorry ladies but I read the letter. I don't think its just women that
suffer from unilateral sweating or even the crying. For years I'd be bright red
on one side and drenched in sweat just from transferring into my chair or back
to the bed.
Doctor X-rayed me and found I had advanced osteo-arthritis and my bone density
was similar to chalk. We counted so many tiny fractures and spurs that the only
total is at his office.
Pain can cause AD.
Pain can also stimulate some of the wonderful glands that no longer function as
they should. Thyroid, hypothalmus, pituitary, adrenal, etc. I'm pretty hooked
on hydrocodone to control it. It is all I have tried that doesn't put me to
sleep or make me "hard o' thinkin". Quads don't all age and get brittle at the
same rate. I don't actually feel the pain I'm having but evidently, my body
does.
Bouts of crying and depression are not abnormal and you should mention it to
your doctor even if you think its part of menopause. We are all different in
that. If you cry because you missed Oprah, it could be time to talk.

A lot of us have bouts of abdominal pain. It can be very serious because it
can cause AD. I'm not joking when I say, it is often gas. Some anti-gas seems
to work. I try to sit on my commode chair each night for a few minutes before
bed. I'm sure I loose a few liters at times.

We do have a special interest in it because so many of us are dependent on the

forcing the best doctors and nurses from the hospitals. In many cities across
America corporations have been caught working with insurance companies to fix
prices in local areas. This has driven the best doctors and nurses away from
these markets. In Cincy they busted GE and P&G along with Ford and Anthem and
Humana. After this grand conspiracy was exposed the whistle blower was fired

Using your answer/logic ... then all folks who've had it and died rather
quickly (not to mention the thousands of cases we DON'T hear about) could have
been easily and quickly put on a common antibiotic
(vancomycin) and possibly a couple of others and no big deal. They should not
have had to be quarantined like they had leprosy or something and then just
treated like many of the other superbugs out there (Proteus & Psedemonas for 2
examples).

So then why the big SCARE and AWARENESS of people dying or being quarantined
(with an MRSA infection) when they could just be responsive to vancomycin and
one other new antibiotics you mention?

We surely do not have to get into an argument about it ESPECIALLY because more
of us can be at risk. :-)

FW: [QUAD-L] PAIN

2008-04-08 Thread Merrill Burghardt
Forgot to mention. Every night when I lie down my body seems fine for about
30 minutes. Regardless how warm it is, I will be shivering while under a
mountain of blankets. I will continue to shiver for several hours until
falling asleep around 4:00am.

I feel this might have something to do with urinating but no idea what as I
have a supra-pubic. A similar period was experienced years ago but included
AD. A deposit in my penis removed resolved this for years.

Were all these people given vancomycin that came close to dying ?

I think the news reports are making more people aware of how easily they can
help prevent MRSA infections by frequent hand washes and using gloves and
masks when changing caths, dressing wounds, etc. However, some news reports
have sensationalized it to the point that it's beyond being rational.

So then why the big SCARE and AWARENESS of people dying or being quarantined
(with an MRSA infection) when they could just be responsive to vancomycin
and one other new antibiotics you mention?
