Merrill, does your finger have a cut. It could be one of our low blood pressure
quirks. Is it warm or surrounded by a red area. We are, as quads, susceptible
to clots. This is worth mention in your living will as a blood clot may cost
you an arm, a leg, a life or the worst, make you a member of the vegetable
club. Your description left a lot of room for the imagination. I couldn't tell
you if it is serious or just peculiar to you.

I wish you the very best,

If I do not hold my arm up, a finger becomes red with a narrowing at the hand
which then is a thin red line as if a vane. Does that sound suspicious? I
have a doc appointment in a month but maybe I should go to Urgent Care.

The finger is red with a ½ inch line. As redness gets to the base it
follows on tiny vain down my wrist. Right, sounds infected. But no. When

again I am trying to elevate it. Thanks to all. Guess I need to wait for

[QUAD-L] Medical Help

2008-04-18 Thread LadyNotes
It really amazes me at the number of people who write to this list asking
for medical advice or if they should go to the doctor to get something checked
out. As helpful as everyone on this list tries to be, I don't think anyone
here can offer real medical advice to someone without knowing their medical
history or the severity of the medical issue in question. Maybe it's just me,
but if ANYTHING is out of the ordinary for me, I call the doctor's office and
schedule an appointment, unless of course, I need to go to emergency. I
would think that after most of what us quads have been through, we should not
hesitate to get medical attention. It could mean the difference between life
and death. If it isn't anything that severe, at least we've had it checked
out and know what's going on. At least that's my two cents worth.

don't last long before I need to change them. The silicone coated latex ones

The finger is red with a ½ inch line. As redness gets to the base it follows
on tiny vain down my wrist. Right, sounds infected. But no. When hand is
elevated redness goes away. I posted on the thread about clots because it
entered my mind. This morning the finger is simply purple, but again I am
trying to elevate it. Thanks to all. Guess I need to wait for my appointment
seeing redness is not spreading.

I've been taking iron pills for about two months. My friend's doc told him last
week that iron pills were a waste of time and gave him injections. Anybody know
the facts on this? Larry

Larry, I just had this talk with my doc. Iron needs a very acidic stomach to
be absorbed and even then, at best, from a 50mg tab you'll get 2-3mg! If
you take antacids, proton pump inhibiters, H2-blockers (like Prevacid,
Prilosec, Zantac , etc.) you'll get almost nothing ... if at all. Iron
absorbs through the stomach but not in the intestines. However, if yo take
iron WITH a Vitamin C there's a chance of enough stomach acid long enough to
absorb it. The IVs are effective with or without stomach acid. It's a
half-hour or 1hr infusion that last up to 3 months. That's the best I can
tell ya. Hope it helps. The vitamin C + ion brought me up from slightly
anemic to normal. Best, --Tod William Willis [EMAIL

[QUAD-L] Medical Help

2008-04-18 Thread wheelchair
I agree with you 100%. But I also realize that it may not be that easy for
some or a few. Doctors are busy. Hospitals are miles away. There are 100
excuses and reasons.
Has anyone enlisted a Nurse Practioner to manage their personal healthcare
vs a medical doctor? Seems like there are more NP than doctors that are
regularly available. Nurse Practioner can often be just as effect as a
primary
doctor for the simple things.
Also, when in doubt, call the ER or Prompt Response clinics and ask.

Best Wishes

I for one, ask questions just to see if I am the only one feeling this way.
Today I asked a question on another list got the name I have been looking for
- Motility. That is what I have. I was great full for all the help that was
given.

Nurse practitioners are very wise will take more time with you than doctors.
If it gets to anything they don't know, the doctor is available.

W,

I have used the services of a nurse practitioner, when the doctor wasn't
available. The service was exceptional. She seemed to have more time to
spend
with me on each visit. I was very satisfied with the results.

I see a Physician's Assistance (PA) for nearly everything for the same
reasons, Naomi.
