RE: [QUAD-L] Supra pubic

That's one area I have had lots of luck with. I've used a 16f for over 10-12
years. Though about 6 years ago I switched to the 16f IC (Silver Coated,
Infection Control.) I change every 2 weeks. I never see sludge in it.

how often do you guys change your catheters? I have a supra pubic and

[QUAD-L] Supra Pubic new question

2009-10-13 Thread Greg
I have a SP cath and every now and then I get a very bad pain in my abdomen,
plus lots of gas. Often within days of changing my cath. It starts out
feeling like it's just gas, burping, etc. Then It's so bad I want to just
bend over. Then I remember last time it happened it was caused by my SP
cath. It is draining well, looks clean, no sweating or any AD. But if I
change my cath the pain goes away. Like maybe it was just poking me in a bad
place. It does case gas, but after changing the cath the gas slowly goes
away too. My old urologist told me often any irritation to your bladder can
cause bad gas.

Anyone have this problem?

Thanks, Greg

When I ask Tony to further explain his desired use he replied,
He uses a non-lubricated Trojan comdoms, unroll it, glue the bottom part
secure it with micopopore tape on top of the rubber sleeve and puncture

He further stated that he has been using this method for 37 years. He

[QUAD-L] NIGHTLY HOSPITAL BED USERS.....

2009-10-13 Thread Lori Michaelson
Hi group,

How many of you use a fully adjustable hospital bed on a nightly basis? When
I say fully adjustable I mean to include that the bed also has the up and
down feature off the floor.

I have always had to use one since my injury in 1979. My caregivers have to
move from one side of the bed to the other to move me around to dress me,
etc as well as have the bed up off of the floor and at a comfortable level
so as not to hurt their backs. This includes spouses, etc.
I am writing because my husband and I would like to travel more but need an
extra person to travel with us to help with my care. UNLESS a hotel had a
room with a fully adjustable hospital bed. Firstly, I have no third person
willing to travel here there and everywhere. Neither could we afford to pay
for their lodging, food, etc. Lastly, my husband and I would like to travel
alone. But, with my husband already having back problems having a hospital
bed is a necessity.

When we traveled cross-country to move from the Northeast to Southern
Arizona [in 2000] my sister helped but we have asked her about other
week-to- 10-day trips in the past and she has turned us down. Which is
understandable. Since then, and over the years, I have searched many many
many places to see if there is a list of helper travelers of some kind but
could not find anything. But, even if we did, we could not afford their
lodging and food as well as paying them a salary.

Not only do I need it for myself and the caregiver dressing care, etc I also
take along my Hoyer lift and I would definitely know that there would be
clearance under the bed.

Anyway, I am writing to a hotel about the possibility of having one room in
their entire hotel have a hospital bed in it along with a double bed. OR
have them have a fully adjustable hospital bed in a storage area that could
be wheeled into a room after reservations have been made.

*How many of you, besides myself, could benefit from this possibility with
hotels? *

Please respond publicly or privately and perhaps you could help the process
come to fruition by me giving you the person's contact info of whom I am
corresponding with to see if their hotel chain (Hampton Inns) will consider
this possibility. I reminded them that it would not be a great cost at all.
A simple hospital bed is no more than $750 and mine lasted me 25 years and
probably would have lasted longer before I got a new one.

Thank you,

Lori

I would like to hear from anyone having a permolock, but what I'm trying to
find out is the following:
Does this thing work well from the passenger side? (The manager of the shop
that has done my work tells me it is extremely difficult to get into, is this
true?)
Yes - there's very little clearance. I have a permolock on drivers side and
it's really tight to get into. Braqun entervan. I have a new C500 with the new
seating system
Does this system take the slack out of the suspension on the wheelchair? Yes,
it locks it out.

Is anyone using an ezlock with a Permobile?

Just changed from EZlock (15 yrs), wanted the clearance on a new c500 with
pin retract.
If so, does the wheelchair bounce around a lot?

No, the ride is a little bumpy.

I presently have an ezlock already in my vehicle, but I don't want to install
the bracket on the new wheelchair if I'd really don't want to use it later on.

Yeah, had the same dilemma$3500 to buy and install. Make sure it fits! I
can tell you it's REALLY tight. In fact, when I'm not driving, to get into the
passenger seat I have to go up the ramp backwards! The lock prevents the chair
from doing 360 turn inside the van. Once in, it works really well, so far.

I look forward to your feedback.
  Quadius
PS I'm still waiting on some modifications to my wheelchair, but I am hopeful
I will have it shortly. I know it's taken an unbelievably long time, but there
have been so many things go wrong with the process but I think it can only be
my bad luck.

Well, I just got off the phone with Nuance and they told me they could sell
the version 10 professional upgrade for $200 instead of $300. This is a bit
steep if you ask me, so I guess I'll be waiting a little while. I sadly missed
the sale they had for about $150.

Just thought you all might like to know.
Remember, this is for the professional. I also noticed a Matrix which
compares all of the types of NaturallySpeaking. I can probably get away with
using NaturallySpeaking preferred because I don't even know how to write any of
the complex macros to make things a lot quicker. According to this matrix
simple script commands (type e-mail address) would work. This is primarily
what I use, but I don't believe Knowbrainer software will work with preferred.

Steve will know more about the subject than I do, so I will defer to him.

I'm just curious as to everyone's living arrangements. Do you stay at
home with a live in caretaker, do you live at home with family who cares for
you, do you live alone with an aide who comes in for a few hours, do you live
in an assisted living facility, or nursing facility . I'm just curious as to
how other people manage. I live in my own home, but I do not have access to a
shower and I need someone available 24 hours a day. I'm looking at assistant
living facilities, but they are so expensive. Any suggestions?

Everything is so expensive these days, I had to move back home to Mexico
because my SSI wasn't enough to live on and now I lost it but I'm still better
off, at least I don't have to pay rent and I have my mom to take care of me
