RE: [QUAD-L] tat- the price we pay for freedom...
You're not alone. The nonpartisan Citizen’s Alliance for Secure Elections (CASE) is investigating various other voting irregularities in Ohio, among them: * In Auglaize County, a letter dated October 21 under the signature of Ken Nuss, the county’s former deputy director, alleges that Joe McGinnis, a former employee of Election Systems Software (ESS), violated election protocol with his unauthorized use of the county’s central tabulating computer that creates ballots and compiles election results. Nuss, who resigned on October 21, alleges that McGinnis was improperly granted access to the computer the weekend of October 16. * In Miami County, with 100% of the precincts reporting at 9am EST Wednesday, Nov. 3, Bush had 20,807 votes (65.80%) and Kerry had 10,724 (33.92%). Miami reported 31,620 voters. Inexplicably, nearly 19,000 new ballots were added after all precincts reported, boosting Bush’s vote to 33,039 (65.77%) to Kerry’s 17,039 (33.92%). CASE is investigating why the percentage of the vote stayed exactly the same to three one-hundredths of a percentage point after nearly 19,000 new ballots were added. CASE members speculate that it’s either a long-shot coincidence with the last three digits remaining the same, or that someone had pre-set a database and programmed a voting machine to cough up a pre-set percentage of votes. Miami County uses an easily hackable optical scanner with the central counter provided by the Republican-linked vendor ESS. * In Warren County, administrators and election officials locked down the county administrative building and prohibited all independent election observers from watching the vote count. County officials cited “homeland security,” according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. WCPO-TV Channel 9 News Director Bob Morford told the Enquirer that he had “never seen anything like it.” Morford asserted that throwing the media and independent observers out of the centralized counting area under the guise of “homeland security” was a “red herring.” He said, “That’s something to put up when you don’t know what else to put up to keep us out.” In Warren County, Bush picked up an additional 12,000 votes over his 2000 election total. * In Franklin County, where Franklin County Board of Elections Director Matt Damschroder is also the former Executive Director of the county’s Republican Party, the county Board of Elections building looked like a bunker. Scores of city buses blocked parking spaces on the street outside, numerous concrete barricades surrounded the parking lot, and a metal detector was stationed at the only entrance. A phalanx of armed deputy sheriffs swarmed the only site where provisional voters could cast a guaranteed ballot. The Columbus Dispatch confirmed an Election Day Free Press story that far fewer voting machines were present in predominantly black Democratic inner-city voting wards than in the recent primary election and the 2000 presidential election, with their lighter turnouts. The reduced number of machines caused voters to wait up to seven hours and wait an average of approximately three hours. One Republican Central Committee member told the Free Press that Damschroder held back as many as 200 machines and dispersed many of the other machines to affluent suburbs in Franklin County. (-Mark, Great hearing from you again!-) (...and Tim, I think I remember you from way back? Or am I thinking of another Tim?) Anyway: One thing I forgot to mention although I said I've had far fewer serious infections, that isn't to say I don't get infections. This seems to vary across the board but personally, the full truth of it is I've had to leasrn to live with the fact I almost always have a so-called low grade infection that none of my docs feel should be treated. By low grade I mean the only real symptom is cloudy urine almost all the time... sometimes even chunky urine that looks more like ricotta or cottage cheese in the bedside drainage bag tube. The latter cheese is not the norm but the ricotta is usually Ok. At first we treated UTIs as usual with the lab, urine CS, and antiobiotics. We slowly backed off on the antibiotics to: #1) prevent the buildup or creation of resistant strains and #2) make sure I didn't kill all the good gastrointestinal bacteria while allowing a resistant H. pylori to form and cause ulcers... a common problem with frequent antibiotic treatments, especially oral ones, or switching them often. (I eat yogurt every day because of what too many antibiotics started doing to my stomach lining.) Even with the constant low-grade UTI, I've only had 3-4 UTIs needing antibiotics in the last 5-7 years. At the advice of 3 docs, I don't even get them checked anymore unless I get other continuing symptoms. Things like fever, spasms, a red and irritated SP site (stoma) that doesn't clear up by changing the catheter, etc. are my Red Flag UTI symptoms. THOSE get checked out. There's an SP learning curve. It takes a whiile to figure it all out... just like Everything Quad... but once you get the hang of it [poor pun intended] it's quite a freeing experience ['nother pun] that gives an opportunity to do much, MUCH more with far fewer worries about springing a leak or blowing off a Texas cath at just the wrong time. OH... ONE MORE... If you have the ability to know or feel when you're voiding, that sensation will be gone. It will be a continuous trickle. Because of that it can be more difficult to know when/if your legbag ids getting full unless you can see it. You should be sure you can empty it whenever you want to or need to... i.e. doing it yourself, an electric bag emptier, or always with someone who can do it for you. It's different for everyone, but mostly a positive change overall. Once again, good luck! Mark Jackson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey Tod, After reading this post I'm definitely going to the sp done. The whole procedure was done without anesthesia but they kept careful watch on my BP... I did get a little AD as a over-filled my bladder to begin the procedure. I went home with a 12fr foley and went to work that afternoon. That first month was a little difficult as I did leak around the stoma at times and granules would build up and clog the narrow 12fr. About one month later I graduated to a 14fr, and then 16fr, and finally settled into using an 18f foley catheter ever since. It works well for me but I do still occasionally get crystallization and granules in the catheter. That's when I know it's certainly time to change it... usually every 4 to 6 weeks. As for cleaning, each day I use a small amount of Neosporin cream and sprinkle a bit of Tinactin (yep, the foot powder) around it to keep it dry. I cover it with a 2 x 2 square of gauze drain sponge cut in such a way that the catheter comes out the middle (kind of a T shaped cut into the center). Works well for me. I have friends who went to get a SP and there was no graduating from smaller to larger diameters. They came home with the 24fr. To me, it looks like a garden hose! On the other hand, they rarely get clogged

Hello Bill H, I've never heard of quadriparesis before but I understand now that you've explained it. Besides that I don't have any knowledge about the condition itself but I'm positive this list can help in many ways. First off this is an awesome support group with lots of info about many disabilities. If you don't mind me asking at what age did this start and how long have you been battling this? I'm Mark btw a 42 yr old quad with use of my left arm and no finger movement. Mark Jackson RollinOn _ From: jetski [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2008 11:56 AM To: quad list Subject: [QUAD-L] Quadriparesis: What is it? Hi all, Bill H. here. Maybe this post will help someone on the list or someone a list member might know. I had written asking if anyone here was quadriparesis. It is a new term for me but is finally my official diagnosis. Some years ago I was originally diagnosis with slowly progressive ALS. Over a period of several years I got progressively worse until finally I couldn't walk, pick up anything, feed myself or even roll over in bed. That's when I was diagnosised as a quadriplegic. They found that a tumor had crushed my spinal cord. They removed the tumor and a year later I was still alive and was then able to move my arms and legs and actually walk a little bit. I never did regain the use of my hands and I still suffer from damage done to my stomach, kidneys, bladder, intestines, etc. But because I could move around on my own a little, I lost the diagnosis of quadripledegic and now have a final diagnosis of quadriparesis. This terms means that I have weakness in all four limbs, and the progressive portion of the diagnosis means that the condition keeps advancing or deteoritating. So, there you have it. If this information helps anyone, then it has not been wasted. Next time I write I will talk about my experience in TRYING to get a new wheel chair. Now that's an experience worth writing about. Hey Maria, Yes I have one too and it would be extremely difficult to not have one. I bought it for around $250 I believe from the Bounder web site 2 years post injury and until then I would have to find someone to empty it and if no one was around I had to wait and it's real painful to sit there with a full leg bag and no one around to empty but it happened several times. Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice. If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it. snopes.com .. confirms this is factual. Check for yourself. Who is Barack Obama? Probable U.S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHEIST from Wichita , Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, 'He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school.' Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is not a radical. Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the HOLY BIBLE, but instead the Koran. Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Do you want someone like this as your PRESIDENT? Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy. The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own! RE: [QUAD-L] Hopefully Coming Soon!
I'm not really having problems flying, it's just a pain to have to leave my chair and give it to a stranger that looks at it with that deer in the headlights face and worry about it the whole flight. Last time they took it and when I got it back they had disconnected almost every connection on it because my switch to my my recline stuck which I told them about and had a note on it to tap the switch but instead they brought it back in the fully reclined position mind you and it took about 30 minutes to figure out what all was disconnected. I don't like it when I can't recline when I want to either and sitting in those airline seats with your roho cushion is very very uncomfortable and those seats only recline a couple inches. I hate flying, I'd rather drive no matter how far it is. I don't know if you guys checked the prices they're going to offer but they are extremely reasonable. Sam was looking to the east for products long before he stocked but there were laws keeping him from from doing so. He children definitely got thier ideas from pop so it's not just his children because they learned from experience. What his children did do was advertise foriegn made products as Made in America which they got sued for. This kind of practice disgust me about Wal-Mart and there's a female candidate running for President right now that was a big part of the Wal-Mart machine while her husband was Governor of Arkansas. If it sounds like I might know a little about Wally world it's because I live in Arkansas and have seen over the years what the machine has done to our local businesses or should I say the few left. one of my care takers is also a wal-mart employee and this year they changed her sick days to this scenario, In order to take a Sick day you must know in advance if you're going to be sick for over 3 days which requires a dr's excuse saying you must take a leave of abscence and if your dr says you're ok and just need to take a day off you get no pay. So, I thought no problem to train a second if I treat my new Golden as a service dog then she will become one. Three years post the first passing away, I bought a healthy one year old. I had it half right but no getting around consistent daily work. Once after a year of work she continued to poop in Wal-Mart. I wanted to cry, in fact I did. After an extended vacation for her while I was hospitalized, she just forgot about pooping only in that store. I took this as communication and listened to her. I changed and realized that I was too hard with little joy. She became a very good dog. Not the class act but a very good dog. See your local animal shelter on how to certify if interested with $25.00 I was right that you need to remember she is a working dog which means no contact with so many people. Plus side is you are never alone. This gets so old in short time but if a service dog is what you want, then you must deny others that touch folks find irresistible. Most people ask and some think you are there for them. Best is to say the dog is working and it is not a good idea to interact at this time. You have a good breed on one side. The down side is seems no one can resist letting you go by. On the other side the dog needs socializing on your terms. There is much to be said about clicker training. Consistency and exclusiveness are primary. A dog only needs to develop as far as you take it, or should I say will only. I am 42 years old and a C5/6 complete quadriplegic due to a car accident in a wind storm. In December of 2000, the top part of a tree broke off and fell on our minivan while we were driving about 35 or 40 miles an hour on a back road. Wrong place at the wrong time. My husband and I both broke our necks and had surgery to get them fused. There was more damage to my side of the van, which left me a quadriplegic. My husband fortunately did not have any permanent damage. I have movement of my arms, but no finger movement. We are in the midst of training our three-month old AKC yellow lab, which we got when she was seven weeks old. My husband is doing a great job with her. She was the youngest and most mellowest of the whole litter and should be around 60 pounds or so full-grown. Everyone that knows Labs says that she is not a lab because she is so mellow. She is potty trained and sleeps in a kennel during the night. Has anyone out there trained their dogs to do things for them? I still need to find a way to be able to give her treats. Any suggestions? RE: [QUAD-L] antibiotics
I won't go to the hospital unless I'm near dead, I hate that place and good luck finding anyone familiar with quadriplegia, they think you're helpless and in a way you are because you're out of your element there. I can't wait to leave the hospitals and if it wasn't for my caregivers that truly care for me and come see me everyday while I'm there I starve to death. The last time I was there they couldn't find me a bed side comode! Are you kidding me! My caregiver had to bring mine. A couple years ago I went for a horrible uti and I was there for about half a day and could barely find a cna to help me and then this nurse comes in and it turns out I knew her because I just had her house built and we had a short conversation and she asked if I was getting good care and I told her I couldn't get anybody to take some time and set things up for me so I could reach them because they kept running off and she walked to the door and hollered at a cna that came rushing to her call and told her who I was and I remember her telling her that this man is not helpless in fact he's very capable of anything and if you'd take 15 minutes with him to put things in his reach and do some adjusting then he probably won't call you for hours. After that it got better but there's no place like home Dorothy! I really like to know about the yogurt and how much should be taken after being on IV's for seven days. They always have trouble getting an IV in me. My first one quit working and they tried to do a pic line 2 times without success so the anesthesiologist used my neck. They were going to take me to radiology to try again but they decided to go with the neck IV and my pneumonia finally looked better. My bowels quit working also and luckily it was not a blockage, so I was put on Myralax and after about four days it started working. I was so miserable as it looked like I had a basketball in my stomach. It is unreal the kind of care you get in the hospital for at least this one. If my mother had not been around, I don't know if I would have gotten my bowels to work again. I would love to hear about others hospital experiences and if the nurses will do digitals properly. I found that to be a real problem. I was glad to have a good mattress that did not give me any breakdown. I was so anxious to get home, so I could get proper care. It did not help that my doctor did not come until the fifth day. I was told that the hospital had closed it's ER shortly after I was admitted, but the county ask it to open again. How do you find the hospital that can give you proper clear? I go to the hospital very seldomly, but it is usually for UTI, respiratory problems, last time it was a coma, because of UTI that was septic. I remember going to the floor my last day, and the CNA just disappearing during breakfast and they had to have persons from other departments get me ready to go home. I constantly have seen people post things looking for help or support about things that have happened to them or if they are looking for a new chair. that includes myself. I posted about needing another surgery which is pretty serious. Even Andrea posted about firemen putting her to bed when nursing wouldn't come out to do it. There were about 3 responses to mine, a few to Andrea's and tons talking and debating over the poor woman that passed away. I think if someone is gonna get angry about something, it should be about the nurses that wouldn't come out to help them. It's a helth issue for someone to stay in their chair all night. What if their catheter bags get full then back up into their kidneys, not to mention pressure sores from sitting in the chair all night especially if they are wet. Who knows what else they may have needed if no one came out to help them. If we want to get so emotionally charged over something then it should be that. They are still living and couldn't nursing to come out. That poor woman is gone and anything we say isn't going to change anything. Maybe 911 should ask disabled people what the circumstances are to why they need help then decide if they will come out. If it's something they caused, then we'll make you wait or not come at all because you deserve it. We'll just save help for those that didn't cause it because they are the one's who deserve it. Is that right? The woman should be resting in peace. I know she's in a better place but she didn't deserve to go that way. Aren't we here to support eachother? Dan, I'm not going to say smoking isn't stupid because it is but I've been battling and trying to quit smoking for years. [QUAD-L] Chronic Pain News and LDN Research
Hey people, I know a few of us suffer from pain and some of us have chronic pain but the other day on a local tv station I seen a girl talking about chronic pain and a drug called LDN (low dose naltrexone) that's been around for quite some time now but just now has started doing research on low doses for chronic pain in central nervous system disorders, MS and a bunch of other diseases. You can read up onit at HYPERLINK HYPERLINK http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/index.htm http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/index.htm but I'll tell you that the lady on tv that had MS couldn't say enough about it and how it changed her life in a very good way going from chronic pain to virtually non existent pain so I know I'm going to ask my doc about it asap. It was just a quite hidden location so it was overlooked. I knew something was wrong but I had no idea what it could be. And it would do just what you said. Sometimes it would only last for five minutes and I would have the terrible clammy sweats on the left side of my body up by my shoulder blade and back-- and the goosebumps. Other times it would last for an hour. And some days it did not happen at all. Crazy! One would think that if it hurt... it would get worse during the day. But nope... it got better as the day wore on. Nuts! Sometimes it's the least thing you would expect so I have no idea what to tell you since it took us months and someone to sit in the very place where they could see my little pressure sore directly. So I had to go without my right shoe for a couple of months or more and all the symptoms went away. [QUAD-L] Stem cell research
I heard today on the news that they have figured out how to get stem cells from skin instead of using embryos. Has anyone else heard this? [QUAD-L] Stem Cell research
Scientists find a non-controversial way to produce stem cells They're already calling it the biological Holy Grail, the equivalent of the Wright Brothers' first aeroplane flight and a bit like learning how to turn lead into gold. But even if one dismisses the hype, the latest discovery in stem cell research is truly a stunning breakthrough by any standards. Two teams of researchers at Japan's Kyoto University and the University of Wisconsin in the United States have succeeded in developing a simple method of producing stem cells from human skin which can be carried out at most fully equipped research labs. Using deactivated viruses, the scientists managed to transport four key genes into the nucleus of the skin cells which reprogrammed them into cells virtually identical to embryonic stem cells. And stem cells, as we all know, are the master cells which have the capacity to transform into any of the body's entire repertoire of heart, liver, brain, bone and muscle cells. Thus they are seen as a potential source of replacement tissues for people who are injured or ill - including those suffering from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. Also, stem cell treatments drawn from a person's own skin would eliminate the danger of immune system rejection. Of far greater import, though, is the fact that till today the only way stem cells could be obtained was from embryos which had to be destroyed while they were harvested. The new discovery neatly sidesteps this hassle area and deftly diffuses the huge political firestorm generated over the morality of stem cell research. The method avoids the use of human reproductive materials altogether - no egg, no embryo and no cloning technique at all. Of course, there are still problems to be worked out with the reprogramming procedure which could take many years before the technique is made safe for use on humans. A basic question to solve is how similar these cells are in behaviour and potential to regular embryonic cells that scientists have been studying for nearly a decade now. Another is how to avoid the potential for cancer since the gene-carrying viruses disrupt the DNA of the cells. But at least as far as ethical bans and restrictive government fundings are concerned, they've been blown away. This is the best news yet for an area of research that can change the face of medicine forever. Mark Jackson 501-840-2291 No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. One or most of you given for respiratory infections and UTI's? I feel like I might be having both of the same time. Trach suctioning is smelly and so is the urine. RE: [QUAD-L] Quad Control website_Bed Controls, etc.
Thanks Lori, I've been looking for a new remote because mine is about broken and I can't go without my remote but is there a site for just regular bed remotes because I called the place that sold me my bed and they want 70 bucks for a replacement and that's just highway robbery to me, I mean you can buy a remote that can control 4-5 different things for 15 bucks at any electronics store and my remote is a lot less complicated. [QUAD-L] Credit fraud
The Holiday Season is just a little bit down the road and the bad guys are already trying to get free stuff by using your credit. I just received this so thought I'd forewarn you and forward it on. New Credit Card Scam Snopes.com says this is true. See this site - HYPERLINK http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp HYPERLINK http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asphttp://www.snopes.com/c rime/warnings/creditcard.asp This Snopes site says TRUE!!! I just checked it myself... This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from VISA, and I was called on Thursday from Master Card. The scam works like this: Person calling says, This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by ( name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona ? When you say No, the caller continues with, Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that fla gs most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct? You say yes. The caller continues - I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. Do you need me to read it again? Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, I need to verify you are in possession of your card. He'll ask you to turn your card over and look for some numbers. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have you rcard. Do you have any other questions? After you sa! y, No, the caller then thanks you and states, Don't hesitate to call back if you do, and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PI! N Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a Jason Richardson of Master Card with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each other, we protect each other. Mark Jackson No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. [QUAD-L] New Van
Well today I looked at a new Chevy Uplander and wow what a nice ride. The first thing is I like the 12 dropped floor like there's no tomorrow and it's a braun conversion from the braun factory who I trust. It comes with the floor dropped all the way to the front floor board so I can sit shot gun which I haven't done since my sci so that's great. Forget about resale value over the Toyota, I don't plan on selling it for one and with 10 years on the power train warranty it might out live me. It also has 3 years warranty on the braun conversion which I like and it's much better looking that the yota plus it's American made! So I guess I'm going with the Uplander and thanks for all the input, Mark Jackson 501-840-2291 No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Well said Ron! This list is so much more important than people know. I was at a time in my life where I was lost and had no clue what to do or how to look at my future, heck as far as I was concerned at that time there was no future especially where I was at in that nursing home. I found this list and slowly realized there was life after sci and number one that I wasn't alone. I've met some awesome people on this list and friends for life. I hate seeing new people joining the list just because it means another person was so unlucky to get a sci but I'm also so glad they found the list because I know they'll find answers to their questions and realize just like me that there's life after sci and a pretty good life with some help from others especially if you are fortunate to have family that are willing to help. My mom bailed at just over the year mark as well as 98 percent of my family. I was left with dear ol dad, lol. And after he got over the throwing my chair and pulling out his .357 contemplating suicide, he has done alright. I mean the way i look at it now is a parent is only obligated for 18 years. I had the wreck and I either put up with what I have or move elsewhere. Some people have better deals than others but like we were told as children life isnt fair. Thats why I think you cant really judge a spinal injured persons accomplishments by a quick glimpse. Each of us have different struggles and either choose or are forced to turn to other paths. There is no cookie cutter method to rehab a spinal injury and get the maximum out of them. I think that spinal injury is a test of a persons stength, fortitude and mental abilities far exceeding almost any challenge out there. What makes being paralyzed so hard is that it is forever or for life, and thats serious mind games on a person. I mean take for instance divorce, prewed pregnancy, dwis and all the other accepted problems we have in out society...there are easy to find help for and people dont get freaked by these probs. Then you look at a spinal injury...its a problem thats not well accepted or understood.this makes this very hard because you feel like your pretty much alone.
