Sorry we lost a subscriber but I found nothing offensible bout referring to
male genitalia as the boys~

Thought it was a tastful way to address sexuality and quad life and made me
giggle !!

If something is disturbing I STOP reading and move on to somethin else!

We are here to share our experience strength and hope with each other. Please
don't stop doing that

When someone else shares it helps me to remember how lucky I am to have the
functionality that I have!!

Yeah, this is ridiculous, I mean there might be a lot of subjects some of us
wouldn't like to go in to, so you just delete those messages
and problem solved, sex might be one of the most important subjects for some
people here so why should they be restricted. There are

a lot of subjects that I don't relate to so I just don't read them, what's the
big deal???

  Pardon the pun
in the subject line, but I was wondering how we might go about having a very
frank discussion about sexuality and SCI online.

  I know that
some people on this list would be interested in the subject of sexuality
while
others would not, and might even find it offensive.  We lost a subscriber
yesterday, I suspect because we got a bit too graphic about 'the boys.'
So, I'm thinking this is not the best place to discuss this topic.  Maybe
there's a forum that already exists for the topic of SCI and sex?

  Is it possible
to start a sub-list of people on here who wanted to have a candid discussion
about this topic, knowing that there is the probabilty of offensive language
or information in such a discussion?  It's an important topic and
I'm guessing more than a few would be interested.

  Any thoughts
  [without getting graphic]?

Hi all --

I wanted you to be the first I shared this news with -- instead of trying to
paraphrase, let me just give you a few paragraphs of detail.

Rob Summers, a 25-year-old Portland, Oregon man, who was paralyzed below his
chest with a C7/T1 injury as a result of a car accident in 2006, is standing
and stepping with assistance, and voluntarily moving his legs for the first tim
e since his injury.

In this study, continual direct epidural electrical stimulation to the
subject’s lower spinal cord mimicks the signals his brain would normally send
to initiate movement.  This coupled with intense locomotor training is
responsible for the subject’s unprecedented functional recovery.

The subject is able to stand supplying the muscular push himself and can remain
standing, bearing his full weight, for up to four minutes at a time and up to
an hour with periodic assistance.  In addition to some functional recovery,
relief from some of the secondary complications of complete spinal cord injury
(for example, loss of bladder and sexual function) could be even more
significant.

Aided by a harness and some therapist assistance, he can make repeated stepping
motions on a treadmill.  He can also voluntarily move his toes, ankles, knees
and hips on command.

[QUAD-L] Vacations

2010-03-08 Thread shellbell5705
Hi guys~It's spring break and I am still on campus... Long story short: I am a
incomplete quad. but am independent. I wanted to go to?the beach but didn't
because:
?
1. I don't have transportation (there is a bus system)
2. and mainly because in order to take a shower I need my shower chair. For
those of you
who use one you know that's is not something an individual can pack up take
with you.
?
When you travel or vacation how do you do it? I want/need to go to the beach.
Do hotels have shower chairs available? Is it possible to rent vans??? ( I have
my licence to drive a van with hand controls)?
?
It will be 4 years since my accident and I have not been anywhere except Mom's,
the Sleep Inn over Christmas break?(that was a nightmare), and in a dorm room.
Please tell me how you guys go on vacation, where, how do you do it? If I am
ever going to go it will be by myself. Have any of you pulled this off?
?
I really need and would appreciate your input, I am tired of feeling alone
and want to change.
?
Thanks

[QUAD-L] WHAT KEEPS ME GOING??

2008-08-21 Thread shellbell5705

This one is easy for me today.? I thank my creator for that!

1,? God
2.? Knowing who I am in Christ
3.? Knowing my purpose in life.

I truly blessed.? After my accident I was not angry at God or anyone else.? My
big problem was that I kept on saying, I know God wants me to learn something
from this, I just don't know what it is yet.?

My pastor let that one slide for a while then she finally said Maybe it's not
all about you Shelly. Wow, never thought about that angle!!! I could finally
move on and become who God was calling me to be.

Today I am in Johnstown, PA attending classes and will be attending the
community college in December.? Thanks to my O.V.R. counselor.

Thank you for whoever started this email.? God is calling me to start a Bible
study here and you just gave me an idea for the first meeting!? Sad to say,
there are all kinds of so called support groups here.? Not one has to do with
God.

Ladies,
I am new at this, it has only been 1 yr. 8 mo. since my accident.? And I can't
seem to get a straight answer to my question.

I am 40 and right after my accident my period stopped for a couple of months.?
Then I would have it 2 or 3 days then go 2 weeks then get it again.?I just
never know when it is going to come.

My question is this: I am experiencing sweating on the right side of my head.?
Especially above my ear to my neck.? The sweat just runs down my face.? My
scalp has been soaked most of the day.? Also my right cheek is flushed.?

It comes and goes, right now I am in the drying out stage.? Going to bed
shortly and always wake up sweated (only on the one side)?sometime during the
night..??

I have adjusted with my disability and have been at peace with it.? My life has
changed in so many ways, More for the good than the bad.??

My point is:I have not been depressed but lately my moods have been wacky and I
cry over stuff that I normally would not.??

If you have any advice I would love to hear from you.?

Thanks Ladies!

[QUAD-L] advivce on bowel program

2007-10-09 Thread shellbell5705
Am taking 2 senexon 8.6 mg.at 12 noon.?

Do not take colace (seeing the doc tom. will ask)

Use Bisac-evac, Bisacodyl usp 10 mg. (am going to ask for magic bullets (what a
name!)

Until yesterday I have no idea how much fiber.? ?(Bought?Fiberlax 625
mg.yesterday) taking 2 tablets now

no to narcotics? am taking Dilantin 800mg.? and backlofen 80 mg

Because I still have some sensation, whenever I got the urge I would go.??That
was ok when I was home bound.

?After each meal I spend time on the potty chair because of all the accidents
and being afraid.?

My stool is hard and looks like little pebbles.

I drink 3 maybe 4 bottles of water a day.? Probably not enough?? Was told by a
nurse in the hospital S.C.I. patients need to limit water intake.? Now I am
reading we need alot of water, which is it??

Usually in the evenings I get some results.? But that is not always the case.
Sometimes it's in the afternoon.? Lately I? have been going a little bit each
day, After sitting 30 min. or so.? In a days time I am off and on maybe 3 to 6
times.? I never feel empty.

My fear is I am not going enough for what I am consuming.? When?I get afraid?I
try a suppository? (usualy 0nce a week)and end up?with?a mess and ect...which
ends up in a?meltdown!??

Thanks.

What is your routine?? Do you take meds (i.e. senna tablets, colace, what kind
of suppository; when do you take them?? How much fiber??

Do you take narcotics?

When do you go (every day, every other day etc.

?

As a newly injured person it takes awhile to figure out what is best for you.

?

Many use senna tabs @ 7-8 hours before their schedule..? Some add colace to
keep stool soft.? Some go every MWF or every other day so they aren't attached
to the toilet.

?

Is your stool hard?? Is it enough for what you are consuming?

Congrats on your 54th! Does it hurt bein old? (I'm j/k I'm 51) I'm glad to hear
your sister got a job, ;)
I'm taking strong anti biotics and that seemed funny but I'm very happy for
you. I'm not on myspace because little children cry when I say hello. lol

I think its really great that you and Mark have talented women in the family
that don't ride Harleys.

Just a minor change of subject, I've peed all the colors of the rainbow but
yesterday I started peeing black. If anyone is familiar with this and its just
another bug please drop me a line? This is the first time I've taken
anti-biotics and had no resulting change in 36hours. I keep thinking of Stacy's
resistant infection. I'm so suggestive. I'm probably being a hypochondriac.

I haven't gotten many e-mails lately, is everyone just busy.? September 14 th
will be my 54th birthday.? My evening aide that usually makes my evening meal
is taking my mother and myself out for dinner.? Last night I was able to go to
my sisters first gig after three years and the first time I had ever gotten to
see her perform.? It was quite exciting, Lori sings indie pop and I will put
pictures on my space and the SCI list.
It will take me a few days.? I think you can click on Lori Wray under my space
friends and possibly hear some of her music.? I know Mark's daughter also
sings.? It is a part time job for Lori on the side, she has a full-time job
full-time..

 Hi everyone~
Sure, This is long overdue.? I did not think there were any females who
belonged to this site! Seemed to be more males (not that there is anything
wrong with that!!)
Ten months ago while having a seizure I fell (about 3 feet) into my garden.?
Instantly I was aware of the lack of feeling from my chest down.? This will
give you an idea of my married life...? I was more concerned that my neighbor
found my keys and locked up my house before I was loaded onto the ambulance.?
Long story short, I was flown to Hershey Medical Center.? Was there? 3? months?
and? was? discharged.? My husband could not cope with the role reversal. As a
result? I am now? living with my mother and going through a nasty divorce.?
Regardless I am very focused on what is important right now, therapy and
recovery.?

Would you guys tell me a little about yourself?
