Re: [QUAD-L] advice on bowel program
In the words of Terry Bradshaw now that was funny! I am so glad to be back. I am just hoping this achiness which I occasionally feel in my shoulders during the night goes away so I won't have to go in tomorrow to try to talk them into increasing the dosage for a couple more days. I don't recall having to wait as long as I did for the antibiotic to work effectively. Sure, it did immediately reduce my temperature, but I felt pretty crappy for about another four days. I really feel for everyone that suffers from chronic UTIs. I had that difficulty during my first three years and I can definitely empathize. Take care all, Quadius BTW, if you're interested I made a quick entry regarding the Chris Dockery concert I went to on Monday. It's not really detailed. http://quadius.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!745D1B2B2E20FAE1!2538.entry On 10/9/07, Danny Hearn [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Quadiuswhile on this subject of bowel routine stuff---DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE CONSTIPATED MATH MATITION ??HE WORKED IT OUT WITH A PENCIL !;-) *Quadius [EMAIL PROTECTED]* wrote: Increase sensitivity is the exact reason that I decided to go to every other day and sometimes have to do it every day. Re: [QUAD-L] advice on bowel program
It seems that everyone has a different bowel program. Guess different things work for different people. My boyfriend seems to have a very simple program. It is called DIL. (Digital internal...something something...not sure what that stands for exactally). Every morning we turn him to his left side. And simply stimulate his bowel to move by inserting a gloved finger into the rectum. Be sure to use a lubricant...we use vaseling or prep-H to prevent and help with any hemorrhoids. By stimulating the rectum..his bowels move. He ususally has a bowel movement everyday...but not always. He has only had a couple of accidents and usually that was caused by antibiotics that caused diarrhea. If his bowel do not move or seem to be hard after 2 days, we give him 30cc of Milk of Mag before bedtime and it usually works by the next morning. If not we repeat it at bedtime again...usually 2 doses will do the trick. It has been 5 years and this is till working for him. John S. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Damn, I've missed you Quadius. Shelly, It took me almost 7 months to get it right and then after I got home it all changed. It worked great in rehab but the food was also different and healthier. I had problems with constantly going and then had to start stimulating to empty all of the way. Now I'm on antibiotics having the same problems as before whether I stimulate or not. I feel like there is no point in doing the routine bc I am empting anyhow. You aren't alone. Most of us have been there. I take 4 fiber capsules and two stool softener/laxatives every day and it keeps me pretty regular. Plus, I usually try to eat veggies and fruit regularly. I have been lucky that I have only had a handful of accidents in the 14 years I've been injured. Re: [QUAD-L] advice on bowel program
Corie, I have sensations from my head to my toes. Although, it is slightly altered below my chest I can still feel the bloating of my belly and if I have bowel left in me. The latter works to my advantage most of the time, but by morning if all I did to remove my bowel failed I know I'm going to have a miserable day. Either just by the feeling the urge to go all day or by knowing my situation and being miserable because of it. If I know fully well that I'll go later then I won't even attempted to get up in my wheelchair. My day will be shot laying in bed waiting until the feeling passes or waiting until the package is delivered onto my chucks. BTW, you had mentioned the handful of accidents...now, is that hand cupped or are you counting with it? Just kidding! I'm wondering if those of you who do not go every day or every other day, have no sensation? I go every day because I have sensation and my gut/bowels feel full and bloated if I don't go every day. I have chronic nerve pain (the horrible burning and needles from my injury level down) and with the burning pain and feeling full if I don't go every day or even if I'm constipated and don't go enough, then I'm just miserable. Before my SCI (14 years ago), I went once a day, sometimes twice a day so I think it's just normal for my body to go every day. Fortunately, I use a magic bullet suppository and usually eliminate over the toilet on my shower/commode chair after 15-30 minutes. When I get back into bed, just to make sure I have got it all out, I will have a digital and get any remaining stool out. Most of the time I do not have anything left. Re: [QUAD-L] advice on bowel program
Before my accident I went two times a day. after my accident I seemed to go without knowing it. I was on lotsa morphine and suppose to be worried about getting constipated. After consulting with dieticians ands finally a doctor who's specialty was rehab, I got on a bowel program that works for me. This doesn't mean its universal and can work for anyone. I forget to eat somedays. I've never had any burning or tingling pain. The pain I have is more like being crushed. It begins at neck and shoulders and as the day goes on it moves over my back to my hips and knees. I take 2 hydrocodone to get in my chair and then as needed. I call it my cape of pain. I figure the pain is different for us too. Other than headaches and AD I never had much pain untill the early 90's. At first it was just unrelenting sweat untill it turned to AD. Just depressing thinking about it. I'm just saying we are all very different and it is a matter of what works for you. john p.s. sure wish I could go every day. I find the commode relaxing. Getting to it and back sucks. - Original Message From: Corie Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Monday, October 8, 2007 2:01:41 AM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] advice on bowel program It sounds like most of the people who have responded go only 2-3 times a week.
