What really sets iPeng apart is the ability (via an in-app purchase) to use the iPhone as a player. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114431 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Maybe some other plugin update has happened. But posting this has reminded me to bring iPeng back (I've been missing it!). Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio would not connect to LMS 8: "Update required"
While I've got you Ralphy, what would it take to compile lame as 64 bit? Does it seem feasible to you that some if the 5x speed difference between my old Ubuntu Macbook and my 4GB RPi4 could be down to 64 bit versus 32 bit? I'm assuming that it would probably be too complicated, e.g. both versions would need to be provided because some pCP installations can't run 64 bit, and I'd guess that dependencies would also have to be available in both versions. But I won't know for sure unless I ask :) chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111938 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

More importantly (IMO), can a newly purchased UERadio be downgraded to the more functional SBRadio? I asked the same question in a different thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?97242-Updating-Squeezebox-Radio-to-Smart-Radiop=725422viewfull=1#post725422) and Erland correctly pointed out that manually loading the Squeezebox Radio firmware into Smart Radio hardware might conceivably stop the Smart Radio booting up. However, I wonder if this + power up feature might give some protection against this. Does this same procedure work on Smart Radio hardware, so that if the Squeezebox Radio firmware totally broke the Smart Radio it could still be restarted with the previously working Smart Radio firmware? I have a 'floating' radio that I sometimes take out to the garden (usually synced with the rest of the ground floor) and for the rest of the time it forms a stereo pair with another radio in the bedroom. I only set it up as part of the stereo pair last weekend, but It works surprisingly well. I haven't yet had to go through the setup to put it back to stand-alone stereo, but it would definitely be more convenient if the built-in logic could handle the change automatically. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94093 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Weird alarm behaviour
Just chiming in here with another similar tale. I've had a radio for two or three months and the alarm has been totally reliable from day one. Nevertheless I'd read so many scare stories on here that I've had a backup alarm on another device, set 15 minutes behind the SBR. For the last couple of mornings my SBR alarm has failed me - same symptoms as others have reported: late, loud, wrong music. Obviously, first thing in the morning isn't the time to try and troubleshoot these things, but in fact the cause was simple. The radio station I use has changed it's format. Strangely my SB devices still seem to connect to the old stream, but they seem to be playing silence. So in fact the SBR seems quite intelligent in this case - it seems to detect that what it's playing is silent and then play something else to wake me up. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93038 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Adding a 'digital out' to the Radio?
I've taken a few photos of what seems to be the relevant area of the main board. Not easy with the transformer hanging directly above. I've also included a photo of the reverse of the circuit board in this area - there isn't much sign of the DAC connections on the reverse, so I've marked the approximate area. I'll not be able to take this any further on my own, but if anyone out there can give some tips I'm a willing guinea pig. +---+ |Filename: Close-up2_c.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12976| +---+ -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93125 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Adding a 'digital out' to the Radio?
Had a quick look at the circuit board this morning. Disassembly to the point where you can see the circuit board as shown in the photo linked above is easy, but getting access to the other side will take some time as there are quite a few tight screws holding the circuit board to the fascia, and of course a couple of knobs to prise off. After typing a few IC part numbers into Google I don't think I found the DAC. The interesting area for this discussion appears to be the area that is partially obscured in the linked photo by the small board carrying the ethernet socket and the line-in socket. The chip visible just below and to the left of that small board seems to be the Class-D amplifier, and the white socket below that on the left edge of the board is the speaker connection. Completely obscured by the small ethernet board in that photo is another chip, and although I didn't find an exact match for the part number it appears to be audio related. It is physically close to the headphone socket, which is the protrusion at the top edge of the main board. I'll take some photos and post part numbers when I get longer to play with this. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93125 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
[SlimDevices: Radio] Adding a 'digital out' to the Radio?
With the Radio currently selling for £100 on Amazon UK (and with the intermittent batches of £135 Touches seeming to have dried up), the Radio is by far the cheapest Squeezebox available. So it's just an idle thought really, but has anyone been able to add a digital output to the Radio? I wouldn't know where to start in analysing the circuit board, but I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron so if someone has looked into this already I might be tempted to convert my radio to a really cheap Squeezebox transport. Are there pictures of the Radio's internals somewhere? -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93125 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio vs Squeezebox v1 WiFi Settings
Mark Does your router/access point offer the option of a 'guest network'. The idea behind them is, I think, to allow you to give a password to your visitors without giving them access to your main network, and you can sometimes configure whether devices on this guest network are allowed to see the rest of your network hardware. This might be one way to create a different wifi zone with different security settings. Failing that (bearing in mind I haven't tried to confirm your findings yet) you could always add another cheap wifi access point just for your early Squeezeboxes. You could probably add MAC address filtering to that zone, so that only those Squeezeboxes can attach, and then use better password protection on the other (main) zone. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92817 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
