If you connect the Radio via ethernet, then the WIFI issues you've read
about are not relevant. Redrum provided a good summary of the Radio
WIFI issue. I don't have this problem either. At one location I use
RADIO with ethernet. At my other location, I use Radio with WIFI, but so
far have no neighbors with new routers that *may* cause the problems.

The Boom has a better sound than the Radio. But I have both and use them
both and find the Radio just fine for casual listening (on the deck,
etc.).
p.s. the loose power connector problem happens with both my Booms. I'm
OK unless I happen to accidentally move the Boom, even slightly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios

2022-10-09 Thread garym

I'm no expert on this, but I can say my radio connected to a netgear
ethernet over powerline works flawlessly. The units are maybe 5 or 6
years old. Also, by circuit, if you mean the outlets are on the same
circuit breaker, at least in my case this is not required. My ethernet
power unit is plugged into an entirely different circuit than the
ethernet power unit near the radio. I think the way your house is wired
does have something to do with all this. But certainly worth trying.

You don't need to disable wifi. But, simply plugging in the ethernet
cable doesn't connect the radio to ethernet. You need to go through the
setup on the RADIO and select the wired network instead of wifi.

No need to put anything in the extra repositories section. I've
already installed Spotty, so it shows up in my installed plugins,

And the you should have this "3rd party" set of plugins. If not, even
though you've ticked to show this, I'd suggest reinstalling LMS, as
something is not right.

because you are running LMS you need to turn off properly from the
PiCorePlayer interface on your PC. I leave mine running 24 7. And
correct, You can now stream radio stations that did not play on radio
because LMS does the streaming. Radio wit mysquezebox.com cannot play
https streams. But LMS can.

There is a way back from smart radio to regular (so you can use LMS).
I'm not sure of the process. Search this forum or start another thread
with the subject of "how to convert UE Smart Radio back to LMS" and
you'll get more attention for that question. I've read that it is
doable. good luck.

I think some folks can hack using a remote LMS. I have no clue about
this (and it's not easy evidently).

Regarding seeing FAVORITES to edit. You're not in the LMS webGUI. In
your web browser, enter:

192.168.1.68:9000

but replace 192.168.1.68 with the actual IP address of PC running LMS.

If running LMS on the same computer as the webbrowser, this should also
work:

http://localhost:9000/

Then you'll see something like this pic:

1. open LMS on your computer
2. find the favorites menu, then click the little "pencil" icon next to
favorites
3. Scroll to bottom and choose "new favorite" tab
4. paste in URL, give it a name, then SAVE.

Now the https favorite URL is saved in your LMS favorites.

First, ignore all the "smart radio" stuff. Not relevant and you don't
want to do that. I went to the URL site you provided, copied the first
URL (dr kildare), then went to mysqueezebox.com, logged in, clicked on
FAVORITES, pasted the URL in the top box (step 1), gave it a name (step
2), and clicked add (step 3). then it shows up as a favorite at the
bottom of the favorites list. I was then able to play this favorite on
my squeezebox player. See picture.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Folders for mysqueezebox

2021-04-03 Thread garym

Open LMS, click on Favorites in the WebGUI, then to the far right
border of the word FAVORITES there is a little "pencil" icon. Click on
this. Now you can edit, rearrange, rename, etc your Favorites. At this
point you can also create folders and subfolders and move your
favorites into these folders. I have lots of folders and subfolders
for my favorites.

Now the above only works for your local LMS, not mysb.com favorites.
There's been lots of requests to add folder capability to mysb.com
favorites. There is an easy workaround to get this however.

1. Create your local LMS favorites with folders, etc.
2. copy your "favorites.opml" file from its location on your local
computer running LMS.
3. put a copy of this "favorites.opml" file somewhere on a website where
you have access and can reference it by URL (a URL that doesn't
change). I put my favorites.opml file on DROPBOX. Then I copy the
dropbox link (URL) to that file and paste this URL into a FAVORITES on
mysqueezebox.com. NOTE: the end of this dropbox URL may be "dl=0" and if
so, change this to "dl=1". I give this favorite a name in
mysqueezebox.com such as "Gary's LMS Favorites".

So now, even if I'm on mysqueezebox.com (and not my local LMS), I can
click on "Gary's LMS Favorites" in my FAVORITES listing and see all my
favorites with folder structure intact. Works really nicely and easy to
setup. Every once in a while, I copy my most recent favorites.opml file
from LMS and replace the one on my dropbox site so that I keep it up
to date.

EDIT: obviously my favorites list is only internet radio. Actual local
files wouldn't be available on mysb.com

If you haven't yet, you might want to report this info at the thread on

"Logitech Squeezebox Radio" and you'll see several available for sale on

you don't enter the URL in the radio. If you are using only
mysqueezebox.com, go to that website, login to your account and add the

I wonder how many of these problems are from the newer technology
routers. I have radios running 15 hours a day that never lose wifi

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Gawd, S...B.. - just bl% well work will you? Fed up with this unreliability.

2019-10-19 Thread garym

Are you streaming to them via a local instance of LMS or through only
mysqueezebox.com? Is the LMS server on a computer that is wired to your
network via ethernet or is it WIFI connected? If local LMS, do you get
the same problems if streaming your own music files. Hard to say what
your problem may be. My first guess is a networking issue. I think you
said all are on WIFI. Make sure that you don't have your router using
any sort of "smart" settings where the WIFI channel may be changing. Use
a fixed WIFI channel in your router, and best to use either 1, 6, or 11
(as these don't overlap with adjacent channels). You can use any
number of free apps to see how many users are on these channels nearby.
Pick a channel with either no nearby users, or ones that report very low
strength (i.e., they are farther away). Just google "wifi channel
detector".

Assuming a radio is not actually broken, these things should work
without effort or tinkering. I have two radios in use and they simply
work. One I use at least 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it's powered
on 24/7. I haven't done anything at all with it or its settings for at
least 5 years. It just works.

google how to access your VM router. Once you access it (should be via
a web browser), there is likely a setting within the VB settings related
to "reserving" IP addresses. That may or may not solve your problem.
Another thought is to see if there are nearby neighbor WIFI networks
using the same channel as you. Use some sort of WIFI detector (google
thisthere are programs available for your laptop or for your
smartphone that can "find WIFI networks". Once you see the neighboring
networks and the channels they are using, change your WIFI in your
router to use a channel that is not used by a nearby strong WIFI
network. And use channel 1, 6, or 11 only (as these are the only
channels that don't overlap channels). And make sure your router is
not set to some sort of automatic wifi channel selection, where it
changes channels.

If none of this makes any sense, you'll need to get someone to assist
you that can work with router/WIFI settings. Good luck.

Your problem is probably something very different. The reported problem
was caused by a camera on the same network that was causing
interference: "problem/culprit, which was a Foscam WiFi camera!"

+1 on getting a rasberry pi (probably a 3+ with a hifiberry DAC hat,
running picoreplayer) to run LMS 24/7. Sounds complicated, but really
simple and lots of step by step instructions available.
https://www.picoreplayer.org/index.html

However, in the meantime, you can simply install LMS on any computer you
have at home, and use that as the server for playing these podcasts
through your squeezebox players. Install LMS 7.9.2 from here:

Open LMS on your web browser. In menu on left, find FAVORITES, then
click the little pencil icon to the far right on this row. Then scroll
to bottom and you'll see a button called new favorite. Click on this.
Paste the radio url into the space labeled URL. Give it a name in the
other space, then click the save button. This will now show up under
your favorites.

Be careful, as its not the manufacturer of the hardware that's causing
the issue with iheart radio access. It's iheart and its stations
themselves (that wants to force listeners to use web portals that show
advertising).

I'm not one of the technical folks on this forum so we've already
exhausted my knowledge. But *my understanding* is that the https issue
could likely also affect those not using LMS. Because recall, that
mysqueezebox.com is essentially LMS "in the cloud". So I'm assuming that
the issue could equally affect mysqueezebox.com. In my own case, using
LMS 7.8 on linux machine (Vortexbox), with no changes in LMS version, no
changes in RSS feed, no changes in URL, I still have some podcasts that
used to work and now don't.

I don't always get 403 error. I mostly have the issue where I can see
the podcast, click on it, see the episodes, click on one, and then it
will try to play (with no sound) for maybe 15 seconds then the timer
goes back to zero.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Podcast Problem

2017-01-08 Thread garym

I've been lately having podcast problems with certain podcasts.
Sometimes they never work, other times I can try repeatedly and they
eventually work. There are some other threads on this. Some are issues
related to https:// vs http://, but in some cases this is not the source
of the problem. I haven't deeply explored, but one of those threads I
started because of problems with the Diane Rhem's podcast that quit
working. Others could confirm that they couldn't get it to work either.
But like you, the podcast worked fine on my PC, iphone (using iphone
app) etc.

I used to see unresponsive/very slow UI issue on old SB3 or Boom (the
old interface) when I was having some sort of network problem. Of course
these older players relied on the server for all controls, etc. The
Radio and Touch do more internally. I've not seen this issue with my
two radios.

Odd problem. Sorry I have to thoughts on debugging other than everything
you've already done. Unlikely hardware as the odds of two radios
getting same hardware problem at the exact same time would be extremely
low.

do we know that the UE Servers are not down? They sometimes are,
particularly in Europe. I assumed this all worked correctly before?

p.s. Have you considered converting the UE radios to squeezebox radios.
UE is dead and at least there is continued work on LMS and squeezebox
stuff. Many people that acquired UE radios converted them to
Squeezebox radios (in fact, Logitech eventually added a menu item for
doing this). As a squeezebox radio you get everything a UE radio had,
but when playing one's own music on a UE radio, you have to have the
internet connection back to UE server. But with squeezebox radio, no
internet connection is needed to play one's own music.

no ideas. the log indicates a DNS problem with the system reaching the
UE internet location, so it is something related to the internet
connection of the RADIOS. (and note that this could be a problem even
if your internet is generally working, that is, your laptop works, etc.)

looks like its not reaching the UE website (I recall that the odd thing
about UE radios is that even if playing one's own music, you still need
an internet connection back to logitech). try this:

1. Turn off radios
2. Turn off PC
3. reboot modem and router (just unplug, wait 30 sec, and plug back in).
Let modem and router fully start
4. restart PC and let fully boot
5. Turn on radios

not sure.seems like it could just be a network error (server not
reaching the internet)? Can't hurt to reboot everything. Turn
off/unplug radio. Unplug modem and router and turn off computer running
LMS. Restart modem, then Router. Then turn on computer running LMS.
Let fully start. Last turn on RADIO. This often clears up lots of
issues.

yes. turn off (unselect) the UPNP plugin. You don't need it for anything

I have never used that method because I didn't want to leave my PC

 Do you recommend running LMS?

re Phil Hendrie, it's still really enjoyable in small doses, but not the
same as in the days of unsuspecting callers.

Yes, LMS is the old SqueezeboxServer. I'm not necessarily suggesting
moving to LMS, but I guess you could run LMS and connect to that only
when you want to listen to these podcasts. One can easily switch back
and forth from mysqueezebox.com and LMS. (I too have not gotten the RSS
to work to add a podcast automatic feed).

p.s. Yes, just listened to a couple of the podcasts. Good, but not as
good as his prime. I still have 100s of hours of his old show as mp3
files. Of course some were most funny because they spoofed current
events in the news.

Go into LMS RADIO Search, and enter Phil Hendrie. this will locate
the The World of Phil Hendrie icon. Below this is unplayed episodes
Click on this and you'll see a list of playable podcasts. I checked and
they work. However, I don't have any way of adding this to my favorites
(I can only add the individual episodes to my favorites). So it would
be nice to get the RSS to work within the podcast app.

p.s. Haven't listened to him in years, but used to be addicted to his
radio show 7 or 8 years ago. He is a genius! No one can send up the
talk radio format better than him and his many characters. I'll have
to start listening to some of these newer podcasts again.

maybe NETWORKING, there is the switch to mysqueezebox.com menu item.
Find it and press on it and get the popup menu to move to home menu (so
it will be easier to find when you decide to move your RADIO off of LMS
 and back to mysqueezebox.com

and when you setup LMS, did you go into settings mysqueezebox.com tab
and enter your mysqueezebox.com credentials so that LMS is associated
with your account?
