Just call RBW to find out what is going on. Then you can decide if you want the
Hunq or if you wanna wait.

I will say that the Hunqs sure are pretty.
Is it intended as a tourer or Mountainbike?

You might be better off buying the Hunq soon; enjoy it for a year or two;
then sell for a new Riv. There's no telling how far off the bike with this

Nope. The first ride's gonna be easy. What's hard is leaving a Riv that
first time in a public bike rack to run errands. It is expensive and
IT_LOOKS_EXPENSIVE.

There it sits... obvious as a neon sign. You know, without question, it is
cat-nip for desperados.

So... Aloha, after you get settled and you decide that you can no longer

see...

Post again and we'll talk about locks. You'll need a good one.

[RBW] Still selling 64cm Sam Hillborne frameset + parts + additional misc. items

2015-07-11 Thread Mike Shaljian
Hi all,

I thought I had a local buyer for my Sam Hillborne and most of the parts aside
from the wheelset (since bought by a group member), but they backed out this
morning. Therefore, I am going forward with parting out my Sam Hillborne. You
can still see the bike and most of the parts I'm selling here
(http://imgur.com/a/hedAr) and I will add more of the other items later. The
attached Google Doc (http://bit.ly/1gupMsP) will be live-updated as thing are
sold, and the price in the second column is what I'm asking, plus shipping at
my cost. I am more interested in selling as much of the frame and what's on the
frame as I can, and a package of frameset/b.b/crank is most desirable.
Additional parts bought will get you the discounts shown on the spreadsheet.
10% off if you buy most or all of it, and some deals for other combos as well.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions you may have and thanks again
for looking! Please contact me off-list or at mikeshalj...@gmail.com with
inquiries. Thanks!

[RBW] Re: Bars on the Hunqapillar

2015-07-11 Thread Takashi
No matter which bars you choose, you will enjoy riding your Hunq. That's
for sure.

I use Shimano brakes CX70.
I took away the Y-shaped link wire which came with brakes
(http://www.cb-asahi.co.jp/item/86/33/item10013386.html)
and replaced them with Dia-Compe's straddle hanger yoke
(http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/ca21.htm).
They let me remove brake cables easily.
With those yokes and my shifters mounted on downtube, I can swap my
handlebars without using cable splitters.

I personally like Noodles when riding more than 60km.
Other handlebars make my hands numb when riding long distance.
I still love upright bars, since they let me look at sceneries better.
I seldom ride in hurry, so when my hands get numb, I just get off, rest for
a while, and ride again.

I have three Rivet pearl seats. I'm obviously a fan. The leather is
thicker than a brooks (I have one that is well broken in) but once the
Rivet breaks in (quicker than a brooks btw) it seems much softer. I ride
mine with 2 degrees nose up. Great saddles.

Re: [RBW] Re: Nervous about my first Riv: Ordered a Cheviot today!

2015-07-11 Thread Steve Palincsar
Tips to keep mud and slime off the bike: 1) fenders 2) mud flaps 3) wash the
bike afterwards.

Ease of mounting fenders is largely in the hands of the bike designer:
improperly placed bridges will make getting a good fender line difficult. Some
Rivendells are good in that respect -- my Saluki fendered easily -- but I've
seen others (a friend's Atlantis comes to mind) where the chainstay bridge was
so far from correct she had to use the full length of a wine cork to space the
fender. Do make sure you have adequate clearance.

Perhaps we should have a thread about bike washing techniques. I use the
two-bucket method, something I read in a bicycling magazine once many years
ago.

sounds like you bought a custom-for-you bike right off the shelf

it un-crapified?
