Re: [RBW] Re: New Roadini or hang on to Sam

2018-01-18 Thread Broccoli Cog
Thanks all for the feedback. I’ve taken a little from each response to help
weigh my decision. I ultimately decided to keep the Sam. It came down to the
fact that I see the Sam as being a little more versatile and adaptable as my
riding style changes. Whether the desire to change is driven by curiosity or
physical adjustments as I age I know the Sam will have me covered. The process
of exploring this decision opened my eyes and caused me to really think about
the riding that I like to do. I think seeing all the photos of cool Roadini
builds online have me a false notion that I wanted to return to being a Lycra
clad racer type. The reality is that I don’t want to return to that way of
riding. The Sam is a great bike and will be exactly the bike that I currently
want and need. It’s comfortable, efficient and capable on many road surfaces.
I’ll be sure to post photos when I have it built back up again.

[RBW] New Roadini or hang on to Sam

2018-01-16 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hello friends, I'm looking to do a road bike build and I am having trouble
deciding between keeping the Sam Hillborne frameset that I already own or
go in an entirely different direction starting from scratch with a new
Roadini frameset. I purchased the drop bar Sam as a complete in 2016. This
was my first Riv and I completely embraced the Rivendell philosophy of
"just ride". That drop bar Sam eventually morphed into an upright Albatross
set up. I got away from the drop bars because I wanted to try upright
riding to gain maximum comfort. This setup eventually became my S240 bike
and I became much more interested in riding with a heavy touring load. As
my interest in camping and touring grew I decided that I wanted a dedicated
tourer so I picked up an Appaloosa frame and swapped most of the parts over
from the Sam. The Sam frameset is currently sitting in my basement.

I have decided that my riding would be best served by having two different
bike setups. I want to keep the Appaloosa for camping, touring, grocery
getting, commuting and casual riding with the Mrs. I want a second bike to
be a dedicated drop bar road bike that is unencumbered with racks and large
bags. I am thinking about building the Sam back up as a traditional sporty
road bike with a compact double crankset, the noodle bars that I already
own along with JB 33.'s and fenders. I want this bike to be my
relatively fast bike that I ride when I am looking to go out and get a
quick ride for pure recreation and fitness. I may even be ambitious enough
to go do a group ride with my old riding buddies from back in my racer
wannabe days. Lately, the Roadini has been the object of my desire. I am
thinking that if I get back into riding on the road in a typical club rider
fashion that I would be better served by having a more traditional road
bike like the Roadini. My vision for a Roadini would be to build it up in a
retro style with downtube shifters, Noodles, Sugino compact double and 28
to 33mm tires.

I think my desire for the Roadini is mostly driven by new bike lust. I feel
like I am constantly chasing that feeling you get when you buy a new bike.
The reality is what I have found through the years and many bike purchases
later is that "new bike day" euphoria typically fades fades and I ended up
chasing that feeling again with something else. I know that you guys are
not my therapist but can anybody share their thoughts on what decision to
make? Should I keep the Sam and reinvent it as a sporty road bike or
should I take the plunge and go for a new Roadini to satisfy my sporty road
bike urge?

[RBW] Silver Downtube Shifters

2018-01-15 Thread Broccoli Cog
Could the Silver shifters be removed from the bar end pods and used on a
downtube boss? They look like the same thing without the pods but I am not
sure. Can anyone confirm or deny that these can be used interchangeably?

Thanks!

[RBW] Re: Best Rack for a large saddlesack on a large frame?

2017-11-29 Thread Broccoli Cog
I also have a 95 pbh and ride a 62 in both a Sam and Appaloosa. The short
answer is that I wouldn't worry too much about the height of the rack in
relation to the bottom of the saddlebag. I have a Medium Saddlesack used
with an R-14 rack. When I first put the bag on while empty it looked like
it would be well above the rack. I discovered that there is some give to
the bottom of the bag even with the plastic bottom panel in place. Once you
load up the bag it brings the bottom closer to the rack. I zip tied mine to
the R-14 and now it is pretty much sitting on the rack even while empty.
Hope that makes sense. You are going to love your DTT Atlantis and I'm sure
you already know that the Sackville bags are top notch.

[RBW] Help in selecting a 700C rim for my Appaloosa

2017-11-21 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hello bike friends,

I'm am planning a 700C wheel build for my Joe Appaloosa. I pretty much have
my heart set on Velocity rims but the question is which one. The bike will
primarily be ridden on the road with the occasional off road adventure on
mild singletrack or fire road. I am a 175 lb rider and I at times will
want to carry a heavy load. Most of my riding is general riding, commuting,
grocery getting and the occasional bike camping trip. What I want out of a
wheel is something sturdy and dependable. Something I am not afraid to be a
little rough on. I have narrowed my choices down to the Atlas, the Dyad or
the Cliffhanger. The Cliffhanger is intriguing me but I can't tell for sure
if it is good for rim brakes or better suited to be a disc wheel. Any
feedback on the rims I mentioned for the purposes described would be
greatly appreciated.

[RBW] Need Advice On Lighting System

2017-09-28 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hi All, I am going to add a dyno hub lighting system to my Sam Hillborne. I
am planning on buying all from Riv Bikes. I am going to go with the Shutter
PV8 Hub. Any significant gains if I go with the proven Schmidt hub for more
money? What am I missing? As far as headlights I am thinking about the B
IQ-X or the Schmidt Edelux II. Any reason why I should buy the Schmidt over
the IQ-X? For a taillight I am going to go with the Dyno Rack Light.
Another thing I hope to accomplish with this setup is the ability to charge
my iPhone while I ride. I think the hub has enough power to do so as long
as I buy the charging adaptor. I am a complete neophyte when it comes to
Dyno powered lights. Am I on the right track with what I am looking to buy
or is there a better option?

I'm an Albatross convert. Once I got over my ego holding me back from accepting
them as a more comfortable bar I was in the clear to enjoy them. I have them on
my Sam set up with the Meisha cork grips and Newbaums tape around the curves.
Although the cork grips look fantastic I am not so sure they are perfect. I
rarely ride with gloves and find that the grips turn pretty slick when your
hands start to sweat. That said the bars are great. Embrace your upright
position and ride in comfort!

Hello All, I have an almost new Makeshifter Outback Saddlebag up for grabs.
I purchased this new back in June and used it only a handful of times. It

2017-08-20 Thread Broccoli Cog
Had such a great time at the D2R2 although I was bummed I didn't get a
chance to meet up with too many people. I met up with John who I can't
remember his user name on the group but he had a really nice Sam with 650b
wheels. I did see one blue Appaloosa on the ride at the lunch stop but
never did see the owner. First time I saw one in the wild and it was a
really great looking bike. I had so many complements on my Sam during the
ride. I was a little surprised as to how much attention it got. I mostly
suffered alone and at times I was ready to be done but I am proud to say
that I rode everything without walking some of steeper climbs. Let's just
say I was thankful to have a triple! All in all it was a great event. Next
time I am going to make it a point to find more fellow Riv owners.

2017-08-15 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hi Jay, I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one that struggles with
this type of thing. Oh well, we are fortunate to have such good choices and
the means to purchase such a gorgeous bike bag. To clarify when I put it on
the bike I didn't think it appeared large rather I was surprised as to how
much stuff you can pack inside. For me the choice was correct because I
wanted it to hold my sleeping bag, tent, stove and a few other items for
overnights. I have a Wald basket on the front with a Swift Sugarloaf bag as
well. For me this is a perfect setup. For my next bike I may end up getting
the large. I think there is also quite a bit of value in having that extra
space when you need it.

[RBW] New Medium Saddlesack (Blue)

2017-08-10 Thread Broccoli Cog
After some contemplation and some great feedback from all of you I just
received my new medium Saddlesack. I am beyond happy with how awesome it
is. Af first when I looked at it I didn't think it would be large enough to
hold my S24O gear. I thought about exchanging it for the large but then I
put it on the bike and stuffed it with my camping gear. This bag expands
nicely and holds a lot! The square shape is better at swallowing up gear
than a standard saddle bag. In the end I think I will be happy I went with
the medium. I decided on the blue one which looks so much better in person!

Question about wire guards. I know that Nitto makes a nice wire guard that
Riv does not currently have in stock. I have Paul Racer brakes and the
brake cable does rub when the bag is stuffed with camping gear. I took it
for a test ride and found that the rear brake still functions but boy I
really don't like the thought of that cable rubbing on the bag. I thought
maybe I could ziptie the bottom of the bag to the rack but I am not sure if
that will be sufficient enough from preventing a bag that is stuffed full
from sliding forward. Until I can pick up a wireguard is their an interim
solution?

[RBW] Re: Cable/Housing Cutter Suggestions

2017-08-08 Thread Broccoli Cog
I just replaced a pair of Park CN-10's with a new pair. Mine had become dull
from cutting a multitude of other things from cables to zipties. FWIW In order
to improve longevity my LBS recommended using the CN-10 for housing only and
have a quality side cutter on hand for cables. I would avoid using them, like I
did, for many things.

[RBW] FS/FT Makeshifter Canvasworks Outback Saddle Bag

2017-07-24 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hello All,

I have an impeccably handcrafted saddle bag from Makeshifter Canvasworks of
Portland, OR. I took delivery on the bag in early June after waiting six
weeks for it to be completed. I have used it on my bike since then with
only one overnight trip. The bag is in like new condition with only a few
smudges that can likely be cleaned off. In my personal opinion the more
"beasauge" the better the bag looks.

I am looking to sell it because it is just slightly too small for what I
was looking for. I would like to replace it with a Sackville Medium. I paid
$250 for it and would like to get $200 shipped via PayPal. As an
alternative I would be willing to trade it for a Medium Sackville
Saddlesack that is in good condition. Perhaps you have a collection of
Saddlesack's and you can part with your medium? Would only accept trades on
something that is in good condition. The bag I have is practically new. The
current retail on a similar bag on their website is $265.

For photos please see here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/WNgI7b8MOSRwE21R2

For more info on the Makeshifter Outback see here:

Please contact me via private message if there is interest.

As the OP I am happy to report I received my new Brooks B17 Standard in the

just need to have a little give where my sits bones meet the saddle. I rode
12 miles in just regular shorts no chamois. Still many miles to go before
break in but I am optimistic that it is going to be right for me.

Thanks Deacon. I have read some of your reviews on the Rivet. My LBS is a
dealer so I thought I would try them out. I really like the idea of the
guarantee they offer. That is really appealing when you are taking a chance

[RBW] Re: Giving up on my Cambium C17

2017-06-14 Thread Broccoli Cog
I was wondering about buying a used B17. I thought the whole idea is that
after break in the saddle forms its shape to the riders anatomy. Lets say a
rider owns it for a few years and it forms to that individual rider. Is it
possible for me to then ride the same saddle and have it adapt to my own
shape? Something I have been wondering about.

[RBW] Giving up on my Cambium C17

2017-06-13 Thread Broccoli Cog
As I continue on my quest to find relative comfort on my Sam I think I am
well on my way wth a successful switch to the Albatross bars. What lies
ahead is the need to address my saddle discomfort. I have two Brooks
Cambium C17's. One on a Surly ICT and the other is on my Sam. I have ridden
the saddles for 8 months and I have decided to give up on making them work.
I feel that I am close to being comfortable with the C17. I have tried both
with padded shorts and without. For rides up to an hour the saddle is ok.
Anything longer than that my sits bone start to really hurt. From past
experience with padded saddles I know that narrower is better for me so
that is what is leading me to the C15.

Is there anyone who has a Cambium C15, either slotted or regular that you
would be willing to let me borrow for a couple of weeks? I pay for shipping
both ways and you would have my absolute word that I would return it to
you. If so I would be forever grateful. I also would be willing to offer
one of my C17 as a trade if this would be something that would interest
anyone. Please contact me off list if this is something that you are
willing to do.

[RBW] Bike computer

2017-06-09 Thread Broccoli Cog
What do you use for a bike computer if anything at all? In my past cycling life
I wouldn't think about leaving the house without my Garmin and a HRM. These
days more often than not I simply don't bother with the Garmin. I must say it's
pretty liberating. I've contemplated going back to a plain old bike computer
that is simple to use and just keeps track of time and distance. Since I no
longer have a desire to upload my rides online I wonder if a simple computer is
best or maybe I don't even need one at all? Curious to know what other list
members are doing.

This is a great thread and so timely for as well. I have only been riding the

[RBW] Re: Sharing a few photos of my Sam with Albatross bars

2017-06-05 Thread Broccoli Cog
Thanks! Yes it is a 62 cm. I had Noodles on the bike before which I really
liked but I just couldn't get to a place where I wasn't experiencing neck
pain even with the bars raised way up.That was enough motivation for me to
try different bars. I also was thinking about the Albastache but after
talking with Will I felt that they would still be a little too aggressive
for my liking. I hear you on the expense part. I ended up buying the bars
from a list member and I tried to save money by attempting to make my
original 8cm stem work. I ended up scrapping that idea after one ride
because the cockpit felt so cramped to me. You may be different so I would
suggest trying your original stem but you will need a shim to reduce the
clamp size down to 25.4. I swapped out for a new 12cm stem and that works
much better for me. I am finding that there are still a few tweaks to be
made. i lowered the angle of bars so they are now more in line with my
wrists and I also lowered the stem much lower than I had with the Noodles.
The combination of those three things have made a difference for me. That
said I have yet to ride anything over 15 miles so I don't have anything to
go on. If your patient I am sure bars, stem or both will come up for sale
soon.

[RBW] Made the switch to upright bars

2017-06-02 Thread Broccoli Cog
With the assistance and feedback of many on this form I have made the
transition from Noodles to Albatross bars on my Sam. This was a pretty big
deal for me and I see it as one more step in the process of becoming an
"un-racer". I have to say it feels kind of weird to ride this way. At first
I kept the 8cm stem that came with my bike and added some shims to give it
a try. I went for one ride and immediately decided that the cockpit was far
too cramped for my liking. The common advice is to ride it as is for a few
weeks to see if I could adjust but my gut instinct told me that it just
wasn't going to work. The albatross bars come way back so I thought I
should go with a 12 cm as an educated guess. I installed the new stem
tonight and went for a ride. After lowering the bars, adjusting the angle
and then moving the brake levers I have it so it feels pretty good. I plan
on riding it some more tomorrow morning to see how it feels on a longer
ride. My main objective is to get comfortable on this bike. I had been
experiencing some neck pain with the drop bars even with the bars raised
high. After I get my bars worked out I need to then get my saddle dialed
in. I have a Brooks Cambium C17. Unfortunately, I don't love this saddle
but I think it may have to do with the angle that I currently have it set
on. The problem is the seatpost that came with the Sam is a one bolt non
Nitto brand that doesn't really allow for incremental adjustments to get
the correct angle. I am contemplating trying a leather B17 but I want to
work on the nose up angle first. I picked up a VO seatpost which was
beautiful but unfortunately I purchased the wrong size. The Sam takes a
26.8 and the VO Gran Crux only comes in the 27.2 variety so I had to send
it back. So the journey continues to find comfort on this bike. i am bound
and detemined to get it right and I have found that the only way to do so
is by trial and error and seeing for myself. Thanks to all who have helped
me along the way. i will report back and provide a photo or two.

[RBW] Re: Shopsack or Sugarloaf

2017-05-30 Thread Broccoli Cog
I own a Swift Sugarloaf and I love it! The best words that I would use to
describe it are practical and useful. I use it primarily with my Sam in a Wald
137. It is designed to work hand in glove with this set up. I love it for its
ability to hold my stuff and it's quick dismount when I want to carry its
contents inside. It has handy pockets inside for bike tools etc. There is also
a zipped outside front pocket and a magnetic flap pocket on the outside rear. I
used it on one overnight camping trip and it was great for that as well.
Aesthetically I may give the nod to canvas bags but if you are less concerned
about using traditional materials and want a practical bag for daily use I
would highly recommend the Sugarloaf

[RBW] To shim or not to shim?

2017-05-30 Thread Broccoli Cog
I installed shims last night. I would describe them as fiddly. I ended up
sliding the bars into position first and then slid each half in one at a time.
I spread the stem with a large screw driver with one hand and used a plastic
tire lever to push each half of the shims into position. Once in place they
work just fine. In the context of your question I don't think I would want to
do this in a travel situation. I would be more inclined to get the bar I wanted
and then change the stem to a 25.4.

[RBW] Re: Handlebar Bliss

2017-05-15 Thread Broccoli Cog
Thanks for all of the thoughtful feedback everyone. Tonight I raised the
bars on my current set up to see if that makes a difference. I came up a
full 2 cm's while still remaining below the min insertion line. I am going
to try to ride the bike this way for a while to see If that makes a
difference with my neck pain. If that doesn't work I think the Albastache
would be my first choice. I think it might be a good compromise between
drop bars and upright. I also think these bars would look awesome on my
Sam! I also think this would be an easier transition with my current
cockpit set up. I could keep the current stem and road brake levers that I
already have. If I switch to the Albatross I would want a new stem, new
MTB style brake levers and possibly extra long cables for my tall sized
bike. A little more money then I want to spend on this experiment that I am
currently obsessing about.

who always has dealt with some degree of neck pain from keeping my head up
in a position where I can see the road. Granted the quill stem has really
helped this situation but I am still finding that I am having pain on rides
at 2 hours long or longer. I am thinking about the Albastache because I
won't have to make other cockpit changes with a new stem and brake levers.
I fear I will be getting into a slippery slope but I would do anything to
ride longer distances relatively pain free. The next thing I will try is
raising the bars up even a little more to see if that changes anything. The
next step may be to try the Albastache bars but I am reluctant to give up
my Noodles which I love.

Good point. A bad habit of mine is this constant case of upgrade-itis. One
of the Clements is worn but I could have just purchased one as a

places you have gone as evidenced by your photos. That said I have been on
a quest to simplify my cycling life and ended up selling three bikes in the

different set ups. That said I am being mindful to not fall into the trap
that I was in before always obsessing and buying the latest and greatest. I
passed on the Barlow Pass tires as least for now. I am going to see how the
bike rides with the Jack Browns because there is nothing like seeing
something with ones own eyes. The Compass tires will have to wait and I am
just fine with that.

[RBW] Re: #%*#! Fenders!!!!

2017-04-19 Thread Broccoli Cog
Success! I thought I would provide and update here to let everyone know how
I made out. After 3 sessions in my workshop (aka my basement) I was able
to finally get everything aligned to my satisfaction. What it took was an
abundance of patience and determination. I explored the possibility of
permanent alignment of the fender nose by bolting it to the Mark's rack. I
can see how this would work but I treated it as a last resort. There is
about 3cm of space between the rack and the top of the fender so I would
need a significant spacer. I had a nylon sleeve that just wasn't quite long
enough. So I then tried mounting them to the rear of the fork crown with
the Sheldon Nut. I didn't like that at all. I found that when mounted to
the rear of the fork raising the fender up high enough forced the nose down
so that it was touching the tire. I decided to scrap that and go back to
mounting it behind the brake again. When I put it back on this time
starting from scratch I finally got it aligned just right. When I had it
just right it took the curve out of the nose of the fender. It's not
perfect but good enough. No tire rub whatsoever. The takeaway for me is
that you have to keep playing with the adjustment of the fender stays to
get it just right. It took a lot of trial and error but I now feel like I
am much better equipped to deal with. I just hope it's not any time soon!

The Rivendell web store recommended the P45 for tires up to 40mm. I realize I
am maxing out with the tires I ride so the clearance is going to be tight. I

have the quick release on the stays to mitigate any danger of sticks getting

[RBW] Re: Opinions on saddlebags? Swift vs. Carradice vs. Sackville

I had been mulling over the same decisions. Thanks to the good folks on
this board and the valuable feedback I received here I was able to make a
decision as to which one to buy. I have a Wald basket and a Swift Sugarloaf
bag on the front that carries tools, spare tubes and everyday items. On
the rear I have a Nitto R-14 rack. I wanted to get a bag that worked well
with the rack. I was very close to buying the Sackville Medium and even
contemplated a large. I also thought about the Swift Zeitgeist but ended up
going in a different direction. I ended up buying a bag from Makeshifter.
They call it their Outback Saddle. I purchased it from the good folks at
Gravel & Grind in Frederick, MD. I just love the size, the styling and the
material used. Gravel and Grind is supposed to have them in stock in May.
Right now they are taking pre-orders because they have a limited number
available. Here is a link to the bag that I ended up buying.

[RBW] Sackville Saddlesack Large or Medium?

2017-04-08 Thread Broccoli Cog
I'm trying to decide which Sackville Saddlesack would be better for my Sam.
I now have a rear rack so either would work. I plan on using it for
commuting, running errands, and the occasional S24O. I have a Mark's rack
on the front with a Wald basket for some extra carrying space. My original
thought was to get the medium with the thought that it would be plenty big
enough for my needs. I am also leery about having this huge bag on my bike.
That said, I don't want to make such a large investment and be kicking
myself that I didn't get the bigger bag. Would appreciate any advice you
could share.

Re: [RBW] Re: Tires for Sam

2017-04-07 Thread Broccoli Cog
Easy, I am riding 40mm Clement X'plor USH MSO on my Sam now in the 120 Tpi
version. They are a really good tire. The reason I was interested in the
Compass is because I wanted a smooth or a herringbone style tread. In other
words more road like since that is where I am mainly riding these days. I
can recommend the Clement's without hesitation.

[RBW] Tires for Sam

2017-04-06 Thread Broccoli Cog
know the cream of the crop recommendation for the Sam is the 38mm Compass
Barlow Pass. What about others that are a little less? How about the
Continental's that Riv sells. They call them "basketball" tires. Anyone
with first hand knowledge on the Conti's?

[RBW] Re: N = ? or How do you decide how many bikes to own?

2017-04-03 Thread Broccoli Cog
I have gone through a significant transformation as a cyclist in the last
year and a half. I was once heavily influenced by racing. As you would
expect I owned many carbon fiber road bikes. I also owned the latest and
greatest carbon fiber CX bike with hydro disc brakes. Now that I have
embraced my new "unracer" self I have sold off a number of bikes. I am
currently down to 5 bikes:

1. My first Rivendell. It's a Sam Hillborne. I am using it for my
everything bike that mostly involves road riding. Currently set up with
Nitto racks front and rear, fenders, Wald basket and Swift Sugar Loaf bag.
I love this bike!
2. Surly Ice Cream Truck. Fat biking is awesome! This is my bike camping,
mountain biking, trail riding go anywhere touring bike. I have a 29+
wheelset in the works for even more versatility.
3. Carbon FS Mountain Bike. This is the last of my racing bikes that I am
trying to sell off.
4. Stevens Prestige Aluminum CX bike. This one lives on my trainer in the
basement.
5. A 1951 Rudge 3 speed roadster. I pulled this bike out of my Uncle's barn
in Cooperstown, NY just before he passed away. I rode this bike as a kid
and I hope to get it back in service soon. Currently in pieces but I have
aspirations of working on it again one day.

[RBW] Help Installing Nitto R-14

2017-03-29 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hi All, I have a question about installing a rear rack on my Sam. The two
rear struts are able to mount to two different locations on the frame. One
option is to mount the strut midway down the seatstay and the other is to
mount it on the frame near the rear hub area. Does it matter which one you
choose? Ascetically I like the way the mid seat stay mount looks. That
said, I am guessing there would be more structural support by mounting the
struts more in a straight line facilitated by the rear hub area mount. My
plan for this rack is to mainly have it support a medium Sackville bag. The
bag will of course be secured to the back of the saddle bearing at least
some of the load. Can I get some thoughts as to the best place to connect
the rear struts?

Re: [RBW] Re: REMINDER: Coffee Outside Bay Area

2017-03-24 Thread Broccoli Cog
Thanks! actually that is my first hurdle. I am trying not to spend a ton of
money on a stove that may or may not get that use. I still have some
wanderlust in my soul and hope to do some sub 24O outings but again I am a
newbie at all this and don't have much gear. I have found a few videos
online showing how to make a simple stove out of a beer can which uses
alcohol for fuel but I am not sure if that is best for my needs. So yes I
would be very interested in learning about what would make a good stove.

Great advice as always. Thank you all. After giving this some more thought
today I asked myself "why not install a rear rack?" I came to the
conclusion that a Mark's rack installed on the rear would be perfect in
conjunction with the medium Sackville. Now I just need to wait for RIv to
have them back in stock.

[RBW] Bags

2017-03-19 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on a new saddle
bag for my Sam. My current setup is I have a Mark's rack on the front
combined with a Wald 137 Basket and a Swift Industries Sugar Loaf bag. My
saddlebag is a Sackville X-small. This is a great set up for all around
riding. I am considering adding a saddle bag that will allow me to carry
some extra cargo. I don't have a rear rack and don't have any intention of
adding one. That limits me to the Small or the Medium Sackville. I am
trying to decide between these two sizes and I am not sure what to do. My
goal is to have a bag big enough for commuting and possibly some S24O
trips. I don't currently have the gear for the overnight camping and wonder
really how much I'll get to do that. I was initially leaning towards the
small but thought why not get the medium. I might be happy to have the
extra space when I need it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

[RBW] FS: Swift Industries Paloma Bag w/ Klickfix Mount

2017-03-12 Thread Broccoli Cog
Up for grabs is this beautiful made in the USA Paloma Handlebar Bag from
Swift Industries. I purchased this new this past fall and used it only a
handful of times. Included with the sale will be the Klickfix mounting
system. This is a super functional and easy to use mounting system. To
attach just insert the metal frame into the Klickfix pushing down to click
it in. A nice audible click lets you know the bag is secured to your bars.
To remove simple push the button and lift up. This bag is spacious enough
without being the size of a full size Rando bag. I am selling because I
decided to go in a different direction with my front mounted cargo needs.

Swift Bag with Klickfix Mount = $140 shipped.

PayPal preferred.

I don't know. I didn't really feel that it didn't fill the basket. Maybe it
was because there wasn't really anything in the bag. This was my first ride

[RBW] Re: Question for Hunquapillar owners

2016-10-17 Thread Broccoli Cog
Thank you everyone! This is really solid advice and was exactly what I was
looking for. I live in Upstate New York and don't really have an
opportunity for loaded touring on miles and miles of dirt road. We do have
some dirt and gravel but my Sam can handle any of that. Most of the
mountain biking is either rocky and rooty singletrack or smooth flowy
singletrack. I tend to stick with the latter these days. I think my ICT
will continue to serve my needs. Thanks again.
