[RBW] Re: Has anyone tried White Industries Urban Pedal?
I am interested in getting this combo, but I was wondering about your comment re: dirty shoes. I've noticed that when I put a Sigg bottle in my Nitto stainless cages there are stains from the contact, so I'm wondering does stainless steel also stain shoes, or is that ONLY with the Ti? Stainless is not as bad as Ti but does mark shoes as well. I certainly could wrap it with something - handlebar tape, rim tape, cork, twine if I had 40 minutes or so to spend. There are even some costlier leather options for those so inclined. I resist as I like the all metal look. I have been looking at them. Bruce Gordon has a nifty package that includes the pedals and a stainless steel or titanium toe clip. But a pair costs $250. RE: [RBW] Re: Has anyone tried White Industries Urban Pedal?
Perhaps you should try a smaller size toe clip??? The White pedals extend forward from the pedal spindle about 3/8 to 1/2 further than a traditional old Campagnolo Pedal. I run White Pedals and my strapless clips on my city bikes - there is no easier combination to get in and out of than that set up. I found the BG clips so large (leaving my foot so far forward on the pedal) that I had very significant toe clip overlap, so I took the clips off. BG clip comes in three sizes. But with the clips off I didn't like the Whites as much, so I'm now using Tioga Spyder pedals that Riv used to sell, which I like better than the Whites for this bike. No surprise there. So do these pedals definitely work with the Power Grips that RBW sells? That would be the ideal option for me at $50 cheaper than BG clips, stain-free and more 'flexible' than any clips. White pedal dimensions - 8.5 cm wide x 7.5 cm long. With the large Gordon half clip I have almost 14 cm. So do these pedals definitely work with the Power Grips that RBW sells? I do not own Power Grips but cannot think of why they would not work with the White Ind. pedals. The pedals have a lot of different places to attach the grips. In fact, I believe I saw a jpg with the set up somewhere, but could not find it in a quick google search. I'ld check with Riv. They must have seen some White pedals by now. Or call White themselves. It is a small operation. I am sure they will be glad to help. On Jun 29, 5:16 pm, dos.ruedas rhizomic.upris...@gmail.com wrote: So do these pedals definitely work with the Power Grips that RBW sells? I got a pair of these for my custom Rivendell (which Mark Nobilette built last week. Next stop: JB.) I got the pedals from Rene Herse, but I do want to pick up those Bruce Gordon clips to go with. Pay no more than $195 for these pedals. Also, last night I put some Lyotard Marcel Berthets on my girlfriend's Bleriot. This is the pedal that WI knocks off so beautifully. It's all about that massive, curving, art-deco kick tab. I'm thinking about getting a pair of Dromartis, the type without cleats, to send the whole interface way over the top. But for around town I'll just ride in Birks and enjoy toeing that sexy tab. Jeff On Jun 8, 12:37 pm, Ron MH visio...@gmail.com wrote: John, you mention the White Industries pedals are quite heavy. Hey Jeff, How do the White Industry pedals compare to the Lyotards, width-wise? Thanks, Bill I have both. The Lyotards are more narrow and not as long. I can measure tonight when home if you want exact figurs. I love the Lyotards (in fact I have 3 NOS sets in my home display case). Arguably the Lyotard look is more classy. Lyotard build quality is no where near that of the White. On Jun 8, 1:37 pm, billiam furlon...@gmail.com wrote: Hey Jeff, How do the White Industry pedals compare to the Lyotards, width-wise? VO City pedals kill that weight list at 228g per pair. Maybe too good to be true? Assuming the weight is correct, there is no way the platform will be more durable than the heavier competitors. The listed pedals are all primarily aluminum. Higher grade aluminum costs more. VO's manufacturer must have used a lighter grade of aluminum. Joel, do you have any photos of your White/Bruce Gordon clip set-up?! When your foot is removed, do the pedals flip upside down completely, or does the flip end point to the sky? [RBW] Re: Has anyone tried White Industries Urban Pedal?
Ginz: I find the Whites flip so easy I don't even think about it anymore. It just happens. No photos at the moment and my camera battery is dead. At rest the pedals are not upside down. The flip point is maybe 7 or 8 degrees beyond perpendicular. If you do not mind dirty shoes (and do not mind paying a whole heck of a lot more money) the Ti BG clips are lighter than the stainless steel. I have a set and with them on at rest the pedal is almost perpendicular. I actually prefer when the tab is angled a bit forward (and did not like my shoes with half clip marks on them) so I put the Ti clips in a box somewhere and now use the BG steel clips. (With luck some weight weenie just read this sentence and dropped the computer) On Jun 8, 7:38 pm, Ginz theg...@gmail.com wrote: Hey Jeff and Joel, Are the White's THAT easy to get into? Chances are I'll impulsively buy a pair someday but there's other bike related expenses that are taking priority for now. Sorry ;) I was out of town with limited access to computers. For some the B- Berry was not getting me on Cyclofiend. It has in the past, so I will blame the local carrier. Yes, I have a set of the White Pedals with the Bruce Gordon half clips. I was an early adopter and bought this combo before Bruce started offering it at a discount. These pedals need a clip, an BG's are great. I recommen the combo. The pedals themselves are wonderful. They fit my size 10 medium weight shoe easily. They spin as well as anything, even the MKS RX-1 (which the Whites replaced). I guess you could say they are heavy in a relative sense anyway. The weight has not bothered me. Have not had to do any maintenance on mine yet, but it appears as though it will be quite easy. There is a (rather lovely) brass nut that you pull off to grease. Definitely recommended. On Jun 7, 1:37 pm, Mike mjawn...@gmail.com wrote: I'm surprised Joel M. hasn't chimmed in yet. If I remember correctly he's a big fan of these pedals.
