[RBW] What do Ricendell riders use for cycling shoes (not clipless).

2015-05-01 Thread BenG
Unless warm, I wear my last pair of street shoes - currently Ecco something or
other. Sometimes sneakers, like when I am going to cut somebody's grass. I like
Chaco Paradox webby sandal-type shoes better than Tevas for warm weather
because they hide my hideous hobbit feet a bit more - but I use both.

Lunas are pretty much all I wear. Year round and on the bikes. I tell the
roadies they're light and make me faster. (From a Hunqapillar.)

If you think pedals are the way to go, I've used VP Thin Gripsters for a year
or so and really like them. I just ordered VO touring pedals for my Saluki
build. A slightly smaller platform but takes clips.

I would really give the 45nrth Heiruspecs a good look. They are plenty wide and
the pin traction makes for an even distribution of weight and good grip. If
you're feeling pedals through the shoe, it's probably not the shoe that's the
problem.

Here is a good place to get the Heiruspecs from. You can get a 10% off coupon
as a new customer with Ben's Cycle, and they are reliable. The Heiruspecs are
as wide as the V.O Sabot but seem to have a better build quality and smoother
bearings.

2015-04-28 Thread Mike Shaljian
Speaking of sandals, has anybody tried Luna sandals? I have wished for a
minimalist sandal for a while and didn't know these guys existed until
searching the Minimalist Runner group. I like the build quality of Chacos but
the ridiculous over-engineering and clunky thickness of them has made me steer
clear of sandals other than Birkenstocks.

This looks like a pretty good cycling option:

[RBW] What do Ricendell riders use for cycling shoes (not clipless).

2015-04-27 Thread 'Tim' via RBW Owners Bunch
A stiff sole should help you on the longer rides. I wear a pair of Teva hiking
shoes. I don't see my style on their website anymore but it's similar to this:

http://www.teva.com/men-shoes/surge-mid-event%C2%A0/1005764.html?dwvar_1005764_color=BLKO#icid=mnav_viewallstart=11cgid=men-view-all

Keen makes similar shoes and I had them before and liked them. I also use the
Keen sandals in warmer weather. They have a nice stiff sole too.

MKS sneakers or grip kings. Cheaper to get sneaker friendly pedals than get new
shoes. I used to suffer with the rat traps, even though they look so nice, then
just switched pedals and all my shoes work great. But to answer your actual
question, Keen Newport sandals have a nice stiff sole that worked for me. They
do slip around when wet and get hellishly stinky in the summer.

Re: [RBW] What do Ricendell riders use for cycling shoes (not clipless).

2015-04-27 Thread Lungimsam
The idea of more supportive pedals did cross my mind.
Might be the best answer so as to not have to depend on a special pair of shoes
for riding.

Gr-9's are beautiful pedals but too narrow for my wide feet. I like something
wide like the MKS Touring as they are wide enough.

I'll have to look into trying some pedals as well as shoes and see what works
best. Thanks for the recommendations and please keep them coming.
