Re: [RE-wrenches] LG Chem RESU10H Battery Question

2023-06-30 Thread Darryl Thayer via RE-wrenches
Hi David I think although it is 450 volts out, the battery is actually moch
lower voltage and has a buck boost charge controller. It bucks the voltage
down to charge the battery and boost the voltage to serve the load. If you
open the battery and rewire you will need a BMS, you can find on line but
you need to know the battery voltages I think it is 3.8 to 4.1. NMC
perhaps some one on line knows

I have -3- deemed defective units. One was sent back, over a year ago,

My many requests for status have gone without reply from LG - I have
been using the latest contact info to my knowledge.
Any thoughts / experiences on this nightmare subject?

FYI - none of my failed units were on their recall lists!!!

Just as a bit of context, LG is in the middle of a gigantic warranty recall and
replacement of every 2019-2022 Chevy Bolt battery pack.

As far as I can tell the recall is overly cautious, but it’s good that they are
stepping up.

It’s not an excuse for bad service, but an explanation for why there might be a
shortage of both batteries and attention.

[RE-wrenches] LG Chem RESU warranty

2022-11-14 Thread Hilton Dier via RE-wrenches
Just as a bit of context, LG is in the middle of a gigantic warranty recall and
replacement of every 2019-2022 Chevy Bolt battery pack.

As far as I can tell the recall is overly cautious, but it’s good that they are
stepping up.

It’s not an excuse for bad service, but an explanation for why there might be a
shortage of both batteries and attention.

Check the charge rates ! It is from LG and I know they are different
voltages. My experience is old and not on the new gear.

They are from LG who after working directly with them..

Either way, there are too many good choices out there to be installing
NMC batteries in or near a home these days.

I have heard of a 48-volt LG but it is not out in large quantities, if
at all, and is not the one I am referring to.

The LG Prime 16 undoubtedly has higher charge/discharge rates than the
LG Resu 10.

I wish I shared your optimism Scott on the LG Prime 16 being better
battery than the LG Resu10. When I field tested the Resu 10 with

Schneider in 2017,
the specs on the unleased 48VResu 16 were the same for charge and
discharge as the Resu10. You would think the larger battery would be
better

but it was not. The same BMS I would guess.

The fact that you can't use any of these LG batteries without the loop
closed to the inverter is a serious flaw (they shut down without the
heartbeat)
that people like Discover AES learned from. Something very wrong that
LG is still in the dark ages of a home battery, in my opinion.

AES did not carry out this poor design policy and built the perfect LFP
for my clients and my wife and I.

LG is NMC and even advertised them installed in a Kitchen?

We killed the Resu 10 with too much XW charge current BTW. The dead ones
went out to the desert of California to be recycled. Another story.

I'm hoping the LG Prime 16 is a better battery than the LG Resu10. Seems

All,

Have any of you waiting for repair / replacement of these battery packs
had any success in the last year?

I have -3- deemed defective units. One was sent back, over a year ago,
still no word from LG on replacement status.

The other -2- have been awaiting return boxes for over 6 - 9 months.

My many requests for status have gone without reply from LG - I have
been using the latest contact info to my knowledge.

Any thoughts / experiences on this nightmare subject?

FYI - none of my failed units were on their recall lists!!!

I have a customer who was told by LG that a replacement is available for her,
but the return shipping box for the defective unit is not. LG said they’d ship
the new unit if the installer (me) agreed to store the defective unit in the
intervening weeks until the return boxes were ready. LGs estimate on box

Has anyone heard of if these defective RESU units might ever be replaced by

And what might Solaredge's strategy be for an LG substitute with the

Re: [RE-wrenches] LG Chem batteries

2022-03-03 Thread scot.arey
I too am frustrated with LG regarding the Resu10 RMA process. No word on when
replacements are coming and we keep getting “supply chain” excuses. I have not
given up hope on LG as I think their Prime 16 is the right power and capacity
for my marketplace, but if LG doesn’t get their warranty process fixed ASAP,
their recent announcement of getting out of the solar module business along
with this will cause everyone to question LG on all things solar.

Vic, like you, surprised not more dialogue here on LG unless we were the only
crazy ones!

In regards to LG Chem batteries, I'm surprised that there has not been more
talk about this issue. Our patience is running thin. It appears that they are
not going to send out RMA warranty replacement units anytime soon. We have had
a number of resu10's go code 43. We rma'd them back to socal lg chem
headquarters and now they are silent about when and where the replacements will
appear. My personal idea is that there is a class action lawsuit against them
and the payments to each installer cover the cost of replacement of the battery
and inverter. We would of course not use their product but something that is
proven to work. We need to make our customers whole again asap.

The vendor says approximately 10% of LG units are affected by the recall,
that's a big loss.
Funnily I was always worried about LMC and these were the only two LMC systems
we installed, both needing recalls, complete loss.

The word is that there will be more LMC recalls in general, Tesla possibly.

We are happy with our LiFe solutions so far, and reckon Lead still has another
few years at least as a sensible and trusted stationary solution for DC coupled
systems until costs change.

Good luck to everyone with LG product, we won't be speccing anything LG for the
foreseeable future! Their modules were definitely quality, be interesting to
see who buys the R/IP.

tells me they will send a replacement, but have no idea when, due to

Re: [RE-wrenches] LG Chem RESU10 Storage Capacity

2021-10-23 Thread b...@midnitesolar.com

FWIW, I was just looking at the specs for the RESU10  (48V) and it says
the total kW-Hour is 9.8 kW-Hour

which is at initial stage of life (note 1)

Usable energy says it is good for 8.8 kW-Hour  (note 2)

At first I thought that maybe they just don't let you discharge all the
way to 0% and/or charge all the way to 100% but

I guess that isn't the case ?

Compatible Inverter Brands : SMA, SolaX, Ingeteam, Redback, GoodWe,
Sungrow, Victron Energy, Selectronic - More brands to be added
1) Total Energy is measured at the initial stage of battery life under
the condition as follows : Temperature 77℉

2) Usable Energy is based on battery cell only

As the LG battery ages so does its capacity go down, the harder and deeper
the cycling the faster the downward trend in capacity

[RE-wrenches] LG Chem RESU10 Storage Capacity

2021-10-23 Thread Jon Siegenthaler
Hey Wrenches,

I have a site with an LG Chem 9.8kW battery. This is coupled with the
Solaredge Energy Hub. According to the data sheet the battery is listed as
a 9.8kWh battery and has a usable capacity of 9.3kWh.

On the Solaredge portal for the customer I can download the CSV file for
the system production and consumption as well as the battery discharge.
When I add up the kWh on average the battery will feed between 6.6-6.8kWh
at a DOD of 85-84%. The elevation of the installation is 500ft above sea
level, the battery is installed in the laundry room in the house where the
highest temperature is 85°F.

I had spoken to a Solaredge tech about the remaining 15% of the battery and
if the client could use this portion. He had said that 5% was reserved for
the inverter to keep operating and 10% was for the battery to stay
awake/alive. Even with this added 15% as the "reserve" we're seeing nowhere
near the supposed 7.9kWh. We seem to be missing around 1.3kWh of storage.

On another site I have already had one battery internally explode back in
July that wasn't on the recall list and am supposed to get the replacement
in Q1 of 2022. Needless to say I'm less than impressed by LG and their
under performance. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar with the
storage capacity?

Jay (and list) - SolarEdge bought 75% of Kokam for $88 million.

BYD is a $17 billion (2017) company, and is the largest battery cell
manufacturer in the world.

The BYD Battery-Box HV is supported by the SMA Sunny Boy Storage (SBS), but not
the StorEdge currently. UL listing of the Battery Box HV is in process, and
they should be available shortly as another option for the SBS in addition to
the LG Chem RESU 10H (type C).

HI Kirk,

SE bought BYD battery and I expect you’ll see them and not LG Chem.
As to when, that I don’t know, but would expect pretty soon.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Lg chem

2018-12-14 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar
The 10H for 400vdc is out there. The 48v RESU are not in NA. They came out
with a 13.4 kwh 48v for the EU and orient/down under but they just have not
really made the leap for offgrid. I was ready to sell many of them and lost
sales because their engineers kust did not understand offgrid.

I have no interest in the 400v storage and can't help you much other than
to say contact Storedge. An LG chem sales engineer asked me why I do not
and I said the last thing I would want is an inverter faulting 400v into my
AC appliances and devices.

My 48v LG after 2 years of daily cycling is still at 99% state of life.
If I needed another I would have a friend in Australia ship it here. An
amazing product that just needed a little more development to protect it
from an XW+ being able drive AC into a short circuit:)

They are available. We've been installing them for a while now. You need to
get "certified" as far as I know.
