Correct, although the consumption meter is also included. They supply the
external metering which you have to install externally in the PV supply
cabling.

The PV design depends on the consumption model, how much battery, but they
do advocate no more than 8KW, which is what we are using on the
installation. I think you could use about 4kW quite easily for a ECO16. It
depends on the daily consumption of the home.

Frequency shift. It will change the micro-grid frequency to 60.9hz

G should be "Home". Not sure what they were doing there, I will let them
know.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sonnen Battery & Outback Radian Inverter

2016-06-18 Thread frenergy

Mark,

We humans many times make quite a stumble when we take a
big new step (grid tied solar plus L-ion storage with the brains to
manage all of it). I agree with you on one hand, we'll probably
screw-up the first few iterations. On the other hand I feel pretty
confident that my sensor laden, computer driven, signal processing,
technology burdened truck will get me from point A to point B with few
worries and for many miles. I think we'll figure this out as there is a
very powerful incentive to do so.

There is a 200A main breaker and a battery breaker, which is software
controlled for powering down from the front panel. Startup requires
holding in a DC breaker for the electronics for a few seconds then
engaging the main battery breaker. The instructions says five seconds

It came assembled. The only hard part was the external

  not very proud of it.
You have to install the batteries and auxiliary cabinet

How much does the finished product weigh?

About 500lbs before the batteries, we used our crane to

There's nothing to stop anyone buying the same Sony battery system and a
Radian 8048A based system and integrating them. I see some dealers in the
UK selling them so they have to be available..

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sonnen Battery & Outback Radian Inverter

2016-06-18 Thread Carl Adams
Drake,

Pricing is for the package, for Eco 2-8 you get the Radian 4kW plus the
kWh batteries specified. For the Eco 20 - 16 you get the Radian 8kE plus
the kWh batteries specified. Here is a price sheet. Installer cost would
be MSRP - 15% plus shipping.
Reading the link, I'm not sure what the following sentence refers to, the
price of the system or the batteries.

*"The batteries are priced at $10,000 for the 4 kWh model up to $24,000 for
the 16 kWh model." *Literally it says that the cost is $10K for 4 KWh
batteries. When compared to the $24K system cost for a system 4 times as
big, it would seem that they are referring to whole system costs with the
same equipment but more batteries.

They wouldn't sell 4 times as many batteries for 2.4 times the cost (would
they)?

If it is 4 kWh of batteries alone for $10K, that wouldn't be much of a
deal, even if they did last 10 years. We are doing *far* better than that
with AGM, which should last 7 years. If it is for the entire system, it
might start looking competitive.

terminal is high.
There is a 200A main breaker and a battery breaker, which is software
controlled for powering down from the front panel. Startup requires holding
in a DC breaker for the electronics for a few seconds then engaging the
main battery breaker. The instructions says five seconds but I find it
takes about 15.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sonnen Battery & Outback Radian Inverter

2016-06-17 Thread Roland - RES
FYI that's a showroom unit with none of their internal wiring, and dummy
inverter and batteries to keep it light. An actual unit has a tremendous amount
of factory wiring between contractors, 200a auto transfer switch CT's and
sensors along with a powder coated steel door in place of plexiglass. The
Batteries are manufactured by Sony, they come in 48V 2kWh blocks that get
paralleled together.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sonnen Battery & Outback Radian Inverter

2016-06-17 Thread Gary Willett

Enclosed is a photo of what appears to be a test/lab Sonnen
system published in the 01/30/2016 edition of "Power Magazine.
Can plainly see the 8kW Outback Radian inverter and I assume four
12V Sonnen (Sony?) 8kWh Lithium-Ion batteries. Assume this is a
  "standard" 48V Radian inverter.
