Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Wacom wp-698 1285 MHz Duplexer
George, My WACOM catalog is #941. I received it, along with Price List #933, in May of 2000. The company was bought by TX-RX several years ago. TX-RX apparently still has some WACOM product in stock, even though the production line is closed. I see that Hamtronics still lists the WP-639 and similar duplexers as a product. The reference I quoted was only found in the price list dated July 1, 1993, and not in the catalog itself. The term "BpBr" is generally interpreted to mean "Bandpass - Bandreject" which means that both pass and notch functions exist. Normally, that entails a threaded rod to adjust the pass and a variable capacitor to adjust the notch. If there is no notch tuning capacitor (usually a Johansen air variable capacitor with a small brass cap) then perhaps the notch is fixed during manufacture for a fixed split. Indeed, if there is only the one adjustment, then you should tune it as if it were a notch duplexer- tune fr maximum rejection of the opposite frequency, and accept the insertion loss that results. You might contact Len Pringle at Telewave, Inc for tuning advice. Telewave makes a big thing about having a product lineup that duplicates the WACOM offerings. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY wa2vnv wrote: > Eric, tnx for the reply. RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Kenwood TKR-850 repeater questions
Bob, Everything stays the same, only thing that changes is the PA and it's not quite as broadbanded as the original but should work really well at the 460 MHz range. I bet the driver was starting to burn up, mine turned into an expensive lump of coal before I found it in trouble. I am surprised that your local Kenwood dealer did not want to take care of that, like I said they make 82 bucks each time they change one out. It does take a little over one hour to do the mod though but still pretty good money and it does not have to be shipped. Kenwood got my new PA's to me in two days, was supposed to be one but still great service. Not that rare... the far left two or three MSR-2000 backplane slots fit a number of "wild card" options. Other choices are multiple pl encode and decode options. RE: [Repeater-Builder] Kenwood TKR-850 repeater questions
Hello, If it has the "New Improved" PA deck and he is below 450 MHz using one of the 450 to 470 MHz split radios is the problem. You can tell the new PA deck from the old by the Q-4 driver transistor. The old style was not screwed into the casting, It's a surface mount looking thing. The new driver is screwed to the casting and they also have copper colored "springs" over the top of both the driver and final transistors. I just did 5 of these updates to my TKR-850's and tested them all on 442.15, none made rated power there but did above 450 MHz. To prove this he can always program the radio to a higher frequency and check it there. They spec the TKR's at 100% duty cycle @ 25 watts but they also plainly spec the 850 of being capable of 40 watts at other than 100% duty cycle (I can quote from the service manual if that helps) That his 850 wouldn't make more than 27 watts, even when programmed for hi power, indicates something is out of whack. I have the spec sheet for the 750/850 from the Kenwood dealer site. It says in a couple of places that it is rated for 15-25W in 100% cont. duty repeater service. It's too big to attach to this email, and I don't see the option for uploading into the files area for this group. If anyone wants it, I can email direct I guess, it's about 633K. Re: [Repeater-Builder] GE icom question . . .
Don Before you order crystals, I think you've got a little more homework to do: those two frequencies are pretty close together, so you will need good duplexer. Are those frequencies legal to use for repeater service; I realize this is not the place to discuss rules, but I think those are FRA frequencies, and I know nothing about how that works. By the way, I recognize your name from the Pacific Locomotive Association list; I'm a (mostly) silent member of that organization too. I have a pretty full plate at the moment, but I do have an HP8920 service monitor and some experience (trustee and technical staff of AA6BT/R, 146.115+) that might be helpful; let me know off list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Bob U. What about the 5C? since I understand it's just for freq compensation, can it be left as-is, or does it need to be reset for somewhere around 160? How much $$ am I looking at? I looked at the International Crystal site but couldn't find any icom reference. TIA Don Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] TKR-850
Hello All, If you plan to use a Kenwood TKR-850 below 450 MHZ it must be ordered or tuned to work there. My Kenwood dealer set mine up and it works just fine. Ver twos will do 40 watts all day and night. Very best of 73, Russ, W3CH. Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Re: Wacom wp-698 1285 MHz Duplexer
Eric, tnx for the reply. What year is your catalog, and is Wacom still in business? I am looking for more specific info (insertion loss, reject loss, etc) about tuning and setting the offset. It does not seem to have any way to set the offset without opening up the cans. 73's, George WA2VNV --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Eric Lemmon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > George, > > My WACOM catalog lists the WP-698 as a BpBr duplexer for the 1.270- 1.295 > GHz band., with a 12 MHz minimum spacing.
