I can send commands to the 7K all day long, program any parameter, make it talk or send tones & ID, turn on I/O bits - do anything and everything with never a hint of a glitch, but after powering off the 7K it won't accept any commands at all. [Repeater-Builder] Re: Problem programming S-Com 7K through Vyex serial port
There are a number of initial items, which need to be properly set up the first time with the S-Comm 7K & Vyex 7K DAB. Once you get the setup done, the rs-232 port works muy muy bien (great). 1. Use hyperterm and slow down the text send data rate. I'm using version 6.3, which works just fine. I configured and saved a connection under the name vyex. I now simply restart the saved vyex connection. In hyperterm under File, open the Properties menu, click on the ASCII setup and set the Character Delay to 120 milliseconds. To send your information to the Vyex, you can type in commands direct or send a text file using the Transfer - Send File command. Direct the open box to the saved text file you want to send out or type in the commands direct. 2. I write all my initial settings in a text editor like windows notepad and send them in hyperterm. 3. Don't extend the single line commands past a half line. Use a proper command extention mentioned in the Vyex Manual to continue the command on the next line. That should get you started. The Vyex and 7K boot and sync. If you send commands to the Vyex without Hyperterm properly set up for a min Character Delay, it will fall out of sync with the 7K as it tries to follow the too fast inbound computer data. As mentioned, be sure to send short lines of commands, maybe 40 characters across in your Hyperterm screen and continue them on the following lines with the \ symbol. The Vyex and 7K combination are just a killer combo. I now write my config files using a text editor, send them to the 7k and dial/tweak in the controller operation per repeater. Once everything is the way I want it I capture an image of the 7K ram back onto the vyex mmc card and transfer it over to my laptop for saving. The unsupported ram image save/send function works great! No more lost software setups... Email me direct if you need more help. cheers, skipp025 at yahoo.com >--- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "nj902" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I just joined the S-Com list and I posted this question there - but as > a new member it has to wait to be moderated so I appologize for asking > on two lists but I figure there are some 7K experts here and I hope I > can get an answer before I waste too much more time. > > I have a very recent S-Com 7000 controller with Vyex DAB and ver 2.04 > controller firmware installed. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Audio Limit with GE MAstr Pro
Matthew, You shouldn't need to reduce the audio level going into the controller. The RX audio level adjust pot on the controller should allow you to adjust that level as low as you need. You might want to go through the procedure for setting audio levels (RX and TX) in the controller manual again. Is the clipping occurring in the repeater receiver or transmitter? Assuming you have a local speaker on the MASTR Pro receiver, do you hear the clipping there? DTMF falsing could be caused by a number of things. First make sure you set the RX audio level using the procedure in the controller manual. I don't have a MASTR Pro manual handy at the moment, and can't remember whether deemphasis is done before or after the volume control. If deemphasis is after that point, you need to make sure you deemphasize your audio. The CAT controller may provide this option... if not, you'll need to do it yourself going into the controller. There is information on deemphasis, including recommended circuits on repeater-builder.com. If you need additional reduction of high frequency audio response, you might try a capacitor to ground from the high side of the volume control. Start with .01 uF and experiment up or down from there. More capacitance will roll off the highs more. This will reduce the overall audio level into the controller somewhat, so be prepared to re-adjust your controller audio levels after you get the frequency response you desire. [Repeater-Builder] Audio Limit with GE MAstr Pro

[Repeater-Builder] UHF Micor (mobile) "spur" - conclusion
Joe was right. I feel like an idiot! But this experience served as a very effective reminder... I doubt I'll be making this mistake again any time soon. :-) Service monitors and spectrum analyzers don't live out here in the sticks. So when I had reports of a spur I dragged out my receivers to use as test equipment. I made sure I had several diverse receivers (instead of relying on one) but failed to check the IF schemes to be sure they were really diverse. It turns out all of them use a 455 kHz second IF with low side injection. I did find one receiver with a 450 kHz IF... and the "spur" magically moved 10 kHz. Oops! So it turns out to be the best kind of problem: someone else's. I'm not sure what we're going to do now... at least one person will be adversely affected unless I change repeater frequencies (AGAIN - long story) or he gets a different radio. At least now I can get these Micors off my test bench! There's other stuff in the queue waiting for bench time. Paul N1BUG Yahoo!
