He mention users are with marine radios, they do not have PL encoders.Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] repeater..activate without tones That would be ok ... until some user came on with the wrong tone. We had a controller of that type some 20 years ... had to modify that when users started to use a CTCSS tone on their transmitters. On occasion, we found the repeater was turned off - so we turned it back on. After the modification we had installed, that problem went away. Like the 6K and the 5K it was onlyintended to manage a single repeater.A new model is in the works (tentatively called the7330) - it will be a true three port repeater controller, withthree touchtone decoders, three telemetry generators(i.e courtesy beeps, etc), full crosspoint switching, and thedesign is expandable to more ports. Each port can beconfigured to be a repeater (i.e. full duplex with audio loopback),a point-to-point link (full or half duplex with no audio loopback),a remote base (half duplex, no loopback, and possibly frequencyagility), or a control receiver. What are you trying to do? My next task is to reprogram the frequency and PL options. I have a KPT-20 programmer, and the manual for it (and the repeater), but the programmer manual is not what I would call intuitive. The repeater is currently on 462.155 (+5 Meg, with DPL) and I want to move it to 444.550 (+5 with PL 114.8). The radio does not have a channel change knob or channel display, so I assume it is only a single channel repeater (although it appears the EEPROM doesnt care about that). I have tried to fumble my way through reprogramming this, but when I get to the VERIFY portion, I get a failure message. Its apparent Im not doing something correctly, but Ill be damned if I can figure it out. You have a very good choice if you go with the Kenwood TKR750 for VHF or TKR850 for UHF, they have allrady a conector for DC operation and better yet it can be taken of the 19" rack and it goes to a very small "black box", has enough power output, good receiver and there is all kind of inputs/outputs programables in a DB25 in the back like a;armmas for low voltage etc. Juan Dakota Summerhawk wrote: Was curious as to what kind of Kenwood repeater can be used for mobile communications? and what kind of specs there are for them. Re: [Repeater-Builder] MSR2000 PA out - again...
I have repaired exactly the same problem in two VHF amps, and in one UHF MSR-2000, the problem is in the feedtrough that carries the + side of voltage, seems it gets very hot at high power level and melt the solder . Have you done any troubleshooting yourself to find out what is failing. Didyou go thru the troubleshooting routine in the manual. I've found that MSRamps are very good and only fail very rarely. I've seen the Choke feedingthe power to the mid level amps have a bad connection...you'll read thevoltage on the collectors in idle, but when you go to TX the voltage will goaway. I've seen this on a number of amps of the 2000 series. I've alsoseen people repair these by replacing the transistors in the mid level amp,and of course it works for a while because they disturbed the choke and gota decent connection again. But the only real way to repair it is to removethe board and remove the choke and clean the leads and reinstall it and makesure it is well soldered.Gregg R. The PA (a110W model) is out again. We just had this repaired by the local Motorolashop, with whom we've had very good results from in the past. We're runningthe PA at about 80W, so I'm thinking we didn't "burn it up", but I can'thelp but wonder if there is anything inherently wrong with the MSR2000 PAfor UHF. This is the third time the PA has failed in this particularmachine in about a 2-year time frame. (This was a repeater originally tunedfor 460 MHZ, and brought down to the ham band.) This particular machine hasbeen a pain in the @$% - RX sensitivity isn't what it should be, PA keepsgoing out, etc. Seems like we're up at the site every couple of months domake some sort of repair on it.I'm wondering if we should just cut our losses and get another machine, orshould I keep plugging away at this repeater? If we do decide to chuck it,how much can I expect to spend to get a comparable replacement - we use thismachine during severe weather season for forwarding reports to the NWS, andit's open other times. We want to add remote RX sites (you've probably seenmy inquiries about those in the past) but I don't want to start addingremote RX sites until I get the main repeater working reliably.I'm open to suggestions...Thanks,Mark - N9WYSYahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] KENWOOD TKR-850 UHF REPEATER Can it betunedandProgramed in the Ham Band
Let me trow my two cents: Normally the TKR-850 came from factory programed and tunned in the 460 Mhz. range, so if you want to operate in the amateur freq's; is very important to retune the front end to bring into specs. In fact, Kenwood spec'sthe TKR-850 in the ham band.I'm looking at the service manual and there, in black and white, is thefreq. spec"Frequency range 440 to 470 Mhz". Not to mention the Kenwood FPUprogramming software has 440 to 450 Mhz as a valid range. They tune easily and meet full factory spec when retuned. I haven't seenone yet that doesn't.Ken Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: 440 - 450 Low in High Out Repeaters
I was not mention anything about the performance of the Micor as a repeater, only as a reference of using same crystal for TXRX, yes i am aware fo the offset crystal, normally this was 11.7+5.0 ( 16.7 Mhz.) so the TX will above of the RX.. Juan - Mensaje original - De: skipp025 Hello Sailors, Regarding Juan's comment below. The micor mobile makes a great repeater when you keep the in cabinet desense under control. Cutting the channel element crystal for the proper injection and tuning will determin high-side/low-side tx-rx. Changing the offset crystal will modify the original motorhead 5 or 3MHz tx-rx spacing. If you buy a poor quality channel element crystal, both the receive and transmit frequencies will drift as one. We used to call these "VFO Repeaters". Cheers Skipp Yahoo! I thought that I would share someinformation about the logic that went into our band planning and actionshere in Utah.In Utah and neighboring States, our 440-450 repeaters use low in andhigh out. Most of our long standing repeaters chose this plan becausethey were co-located on mountain top radio sites with commercialequipment. The commercial repeaters transmitted in the 450-455 Mhz band.As an example, we did not want to have our amateur 449.500 Mhz receivernext to a 450.250 Mhz transmitter that was used by the local TVstations remote pickup broadcast repeater. Our our antennas wererestricted to have only 40 ft or less horizontal separation from eachother. The desense would have been difficult and expensive to cure withonly 750 khz of frequency separation between the transmitter andreceiver at 450 Mhz.We chose to put our receiver inputs low in and by using the 444.500 Mhzfrequency to receive, we gained 5 more megahertz of frequency isolationfrom the commercial transmitters. We still have to use bandpass typeduplexers with band reject on our repeater to co-exist with thecommercial transmitters. Yes, we do have a dual isolator in ourtransmitter output to the duplexer to keep the IM products down toacceptable levels..This is only one of several examples I could show you as to why Utahchose the Low in and Hi Out Plan for our 440 Repeaters.Maybe you do not have this kind of problem in your local area. I'm surethat's one of the reasons why the band plan is different in other partsof the country. On our 420-435 Mhz band, we have links that use a 10 Mhz or wider split. Some links use the 5 Mhz split. We chose this because this lowers thecost of Duplexers and Cavity filters. We planned our 420-450 amateur band frequencies to work the best in ourlocal RF environment without having costly solutions.John, K7JLUtah VHF Societyhttp://www.ussc.com/~uvhfs/http://www.ussc.com/~uvhfs/frqcoord.htmlMessage: 6 Date: Wed, 10 Mar 2004 22:09:11 - From: "skipp025" [EMAIL PROTECTED]Most 440 to 450MHz Amateur Repeaters in myarea use 5MHz offsets, with the transmitteron the lower frequency.
