[sdre-l]: followup to my last post
First off, i would like to thank all of you who have read my post on sdre and the mainstream and responded both negatively and positively. U2. I really dont hate the band and am a fan of most of their stuff, but was petrified, as im sure some fans of the band, were when Pop came out. i dont care for anything on that album at all, buts thats just my opinion. The reason i used U2 as my example was that at the time i could not think of a better band to name. Perhaps naming a singular band at all was blind error by myself and should have never been done, but the past is not welcome to being changed and what i said is what i said. The generalizations were not directly intended to be of U2. That was my fault completely and i should have recognized that some people would interpret that as a criticism of U2. I was just trying to give the consequences of what happens to bands who do in all actuality sell out and have their image and passion change. . . . I will forever pronounce it from the highest mountain that SDRE is in my opinion the singular best touring band in the country. However, this is just my opinion and people are free to believe what they will, by whatever means . . . Anyways that is about all I can account for right now, my heart felt message still applies to the post but i think in hindsight i could of probably chosen some better examples to channel my message. The passion in my heart will never leave for this band because of the passion they put into my heart whenever i hear their music. I hope SDRE succedes in their ambitions. I truly hope they can change the world. Sincerely, Peter Dobill __ FREE Personalized Email at Mail.com Sign up at http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup

[sdre-l]: sf show this saturday
Ha HA! Cool, i've been holding on to these tickets for a long time. It's been over a year since I saw SDRE, and I'm starting to twitch...hehe. If any listers want to get together before the show and hang out, I've already staked out a place to meet. Wa Ha Ka is a Mexican bar/grill that has awesome food, and is less than 100yards away (11th/folsom) from Slim's. And yes, it's all ages. I plan to be there around 7, eating, drinking and being merry with whoever wants to join me. This is by no means organized, it's just a cool place to hang before a concert. I'll be the guy talking to strangers, seeing who's a fan. I'll either have a black leather jacket on, or a hooded sweatshirt with a robot's head embroidered on it. Meet me there (I'm a sucker for a good pun) Dan T. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Dan "tack" Trudell [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Someone told me being in the know is the main thing, We all need the security that belonging brings" -Joy Division, Novelty =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK- Version: GnuPG v1.0.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org mQGiBDlzglIRBACFvPYd6+HwiJNyh/g5ucwU3uoAH5WqukzYZN3Uq8VCKAcBXiMj KxssvUq8ITjBYYbZWCXEVKmT3CwiCs7fJuQUNKVKQFW7vWO0ZltVz/IYOHTzIeFv U8+Bqisj4i/TWptlbzGjtc2lIoh5611G8Ju6p7LnOFNxTrR8ZEyhYx1WAwCg6V7P sAG0g78AjBnHD7qMfsth+1MD/0SoNIOqaQTKMYHvjwol5fKexX8zHQLkbkPIRmHF 0NbY9aRGC4GL4xOZbBBHi/+5xUgW+6LMfAhAMTlKeP4iGkPyik0m/rSowOoIJdjc za6LFsdcMo6l0ayfWVzSAtwuc/IBGknRb37XakyUmKn2vZZkfghl7i97MvlWTK9c xfegA/9358nokvXMMTyFgGhnTH7bxfnNPwxJ1hWtqjEkm2bpXD9ntqrvKDiNYxME 8CTChQGKLK/TmqBouFdw51Y/hS2JdvLkZGtOg+SOyRkIfNPTE6LzLXwD4GG68d2g 3Xb7Qh2qLI3I0Pwub42Xp9Nnfr/FAIr78wohC2T2hEylQTo26bQnRGFuaWVsIFRy dWRlbGwgKHRhY2spIDx0YWNrQHJvYm90Ni5jb20+iFYEExECABYFAjlzglIECwoE AwMVAwIDFgIBAheAAAoJEN6y+CSCahdSgawAoOXQrFsuyGgGVpmOGDJRLl5uCXyE AKDlJ9KC6Mw4FEWcw9wGkfXMxLOrNrkBDQQ5c4JZEAQA2hD7pvCjL7GV6grks4Px /b46ffGNRtBxEAYmDKraX9UfRyNeadvOyOkiDOs3aZuTGz4PIZH1mZaw/leb2hnw eGVbYhoP5+QTlH4+njB3bliV1/XcGF2k0AERwEZEWZ9vv5ynEMM6I0Og40VvndpR 4px1jbPpKJdJi+FDqhr3LlcAAwUEAM0OR1Z0dFwheeKW2tYa26PnAC1ppZ5GWhds 5aoPrqXU6EigBVLvtS+0ByyXn9DpDnpMrjPpuEt4wqvRXkVnifWzwljlnyJ+0/hm guaFRk7r/NX4bNhsdHX6vQWx+5CUUD90x2kTYAwq52QQSiponOx3uiTgYcP3TVoB 8SE2XsR+iEYEGBECAAYFAjlzglkACgkQ3rL4JIJqF1KPsQCfbjJ+YzCtAbOOv/Rm oaSWeszjv/sAoMClFFV5TptMYg/pxleo8PeWzPOO =zYfu -END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-

Re: [sdre-l]: thoughts on Sdre and the mainstream
Cool post, and I pretty much agreed with you except for two things -- "It seems to me that if SDRE was going to sell out and become say modern day U2, they would join a MAJOR LABEL" I think if a major label had offered the right deal, they would have absolutely loved to have signed with one. I just don't think the interest was there. "As probably the best touring band in America right now" This is just a matter of taste, and don't let my dumb comments detract anyone from having a great time when going to see them, but I think SDRE is an outright bad touring band. A great touring band plays shows that last more than an hour. A great touring band plays an indepth collection from their entire career. And if there's a song that they know a lot of the audience is dying to hear (like seven), they swallow their pride and play it, even if they are bored with it. The quality of their live song playing is fantastic and that along with the intensity of the crowds can make for great shows, I just think the shows could be a lot better if they took some cues from bands like The Afghan Whigs who, among other things, regularly play sets that are over 2 hours and have a wide variety of songs. rock on chicago, Mike

[sdre-l]: The Rising Tide review from Wired magazine.
If this has been posted previously, do forgive me, but it's no big deal since my typing isn't of the hunt and peck variety: Despite their unshakable assocation with the Seattle grunge explosion, Sunny Day owe more to the prog-rock styling of early Genesis (circa Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) than to Nirvana. These 11 lushly orchestrated tracks feature Geddy Lee-like vocals over relentless drums and charged guitar work. With layered harmonic reflections and tamed piano, Rising Tide is their most emotive album to date. -robert. YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Re: [sdre-l]: kinda old gossip but, why the hell not...i haven'
as far as the whole "no smoking" policy: i was fortunate enough to have all access at the philly show during the "How It Feels..." tour, and Janna Williamson and i had to sit on the back balcony when we were hanging out because she was smoking. she said "Dan is an avid non-smoker" and pointed to a portable air purifier sitting in the corner of the room that the balcony was connected to. i guess dan just doesnt want to deal with a huge cloud of smoke from the audience. but sometimes its the venue's decision too. --chris

Re: [sdre-l]: weird place to hear sunny day
I've sunny day on something really weird. Sometimes when my cable service shuts off a channel (after hours) they play music. It was like 3 am (after they shut off PBS) and they played 'In Circles.' On a side note, i heard mineral's 'if i could' on some MTV show. I think it was real world or road rules..i can't remember (i don't like those shows at all). call me steam brian
[sdre-l]: thoughts on Sdre and the mainstream
Nice to see the list up and working again, but anyways i've decided to post a reaction to the Rolling Stone review (which was very good for the magazine i love to hate). it seems to me that this album has had a certain force behind the band to change the "mainstream" rock and roll of today with passionate music again, reminding me of the early '90s grunge era. I have heard many people say that SDRE has sold out and has taken the easy road by not crafting song as high a calibur say as Diary or LP2 era. It seems to me that if SDRE was going to sell out and become say modern day U2, they would join a MAJOR LABEL, write puke inducing pop songs about how great their girlfriends/wives are in bed and grow long hair and wear leather jackects become gigantic pricks to everyone but the media and arrive to every show in a limo, completely wasted and put on a live show remembered more for its lighting than what horrible renditions the band did of its hits. SDRE has not sold out but has taken a giant step to affect the mainstream in a positive way. Dan's asking the fans to call their radio stations to play "One" is not selling out, but an attempt to bring passionate music (Nirvana, early Pumpkins) back on the radio instead of the rapefest of macho asshole bands it has become a slave to. As probably the best touring band in America right now, SDRE is commited as much to their music now as they ever were, probably even more so. For a band that has been through so much, it is still dedicated to genuine music as well as their immensely supportive fan base that grows every day. Hense i will talk about the Rolling Stone review. The magazine gave the band 3 stars for the Rising Tide and gave a glowing description of the music that if i were not already a fan i would definitely go out and get the Rising Tide. Not only is being mentioned in the magazine a step up for the band to get people's attention, but the great review gives them a chance to expose their music to a section of people that would not normally even hear the words Sunny Day Real Estate without thinking that was the firm that was getting ready to sell their house. Basically what i am trying to say is this: I know that the mainstream music is absolute shit. SDRE is taking a valiant leap with The Rising Tide to try and salvage a piece of the mass market of listeners of music. In my heart it could posibly happen, i've been pining for an emo revolution for too many years. But in all non-biased likelyhood Sdre cannot save the mainstream. However in this valiant task, SDRE has not sold out either, but has taken leaps forward in but their ability and musicianship and possibly their influence. All i can hope for is a day when i am old and dying and can turn on the fucking radio and hear "Song About An Angel" before i die. [sdre-l]: sunny day real estate shows up on napster....
hey all, The following sunny day shows are up on Napster now. Do a word search on "sdre" and NOT "sunny day real estate" to find them. Sound quality varies. Shows transferred from cassette cleaned up nicely (tape hiss gone). If you download them, please let others download them from you, so my harddrive isn't overrun. It'll work much smoother that way. Minidiscs were all transferred digitally from the master. Cassette copies recorded as well as feasibly possible given the source. even if you already have these shows, these versions are probably cleaner/better sound than you have. at this point, i don't have time to do cdr's for people. sometime in the next couple months i'll get cdr's out to people who want to trade. please don't email me about cdr's now though, cause i won't respond :-) sorry. -- SDRE: Seattle - UW Ballroom 10/14/94Cassette(master) cleaned-up and transferred Portland - La Luna 11/25/94Cassette(master) cleaned-up and transferred Seattle - MOE 11/26/94Cassette(1st gen. from minidisc) cleaned-up and transferred Seattle - DV8 11/27/94Cassette(1st gen. from minidisc) cleaned-up and transferred Seattle - Moore Thtr. 07/11/98Mindisc(master) Santa Cruz - Catalyst 02/04/99Mindisc(master) (missing 2 songs of encore) Seattle - Showbox 06/20/00Mindisc(master) Jeremy Enigk: Seattle - Rendezvous04/08/95Cassette(master) cleaned-up and transferred Seattle - Crocodile 06/25/95Minidisc(master) Seattle - Mercer Arena 09/04/95Minidisc(master) San Fran.-G.A.MusicHall 02/26/97Minidisc(master) Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
